Choose one of the following options to install the power and network communication. Caution! Do not attempt to use PoE and AC power at the same time. Choose only one power option. ATTENTION ! Ne pas tenter dutiliser PoE et AC en mme temps. Choisir une seule option dalimentation. Option 1: Ethernet connection with PoE PoE supplies DC power on the Ethernet cable using a PoE Injector (model #AC-POE1-B) or a third-party PoE solution to provide the touchscreen with power and a network connection. The touchscreen works with the Control4 PoE Injector or a third-
party PoE Injector. To set up your PoE and Ethernet connection with a PoE Injector:
1 Attach the PoE Injector according to the instructions in your PoEs installation guide if provided. Control4 PoE Injector instructions are provided later in this document. 2 Pull the Ethernet cable from that location to where you want to install the touchscreen. Figure 2: Ethernet with PoERequires Ethernet connection to PoE injector Option 3: Wi-Fi connection with AC Place the touchscreen above a power source, for example, an outlet. Ensure that you have Wi-Fi in the home (Figure 6). Important: The touchscreen cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network when already connected by Ethernet. Notes: (1) Video Intercom. Although this device supports 802.11b/g/n, 802.11 b is not recommended for Video Intercom use. (2) We recommend Wireless-N for Video Intercom. See the Composer Pro User Guide for details about the touchscreens properties. Wireless Network Limitations: Many Wi-Fi Access Points handle Multicasts (Wi-Fi simultaneously sent to multiple devices, for example, when the touchscreen broadcasts video to all stations) by slowing down transmission speed to the 1 Mb basic rate. This can cause overall Wi-Fi congestion in the Wi-Fi network during the broadcast. Video Intercom response times and images may degrade at each device. If a home requires a large number of Wi-Fi Video Intercom devices, ensure that you have a robust Wi-Fi network (possibly consisting of multiple access points). Figure 4: Wi-FiRequires AC power and AP Place touchcreen here Option 2: Ethernet connection with AC Connecting PoE The Ethernet is connected directly to the switch (Figure 5). This power connection requires both neutral and hot connections. Figure 3: EthernetRequires a connection to Ethernet and AC power Connect the PoE injector to power and the network, and then connect it to the power box. It can be located anywhere along the cable that connects the power box to the network switch. Wireless access point WiFi Controller Switch Power installation Prepare the plastic power box for installation into the wall box by inserting either the Ethernet cable or the AC power cable into the power box, and then follow the instructions. To install a Control4 PoE injector:
1 Connect the Control4 PoE injector to an AC outlet using the power cord. 2 Connect one of the LAN ports on the network switch to the PoE Injectors LAN port using Cat 5/6 Ethernet cable. 3 Pull a cable going from the PoE injectors PWR LAN-OUT port through one of the touchscreens left-side wall box knockout holes. 4 Go to Connecting to a wired network below. 4 Connecting to a wired network To connect to a wired network:
1 Pull the in-wall Ethernet cable through a left-side knockout hole of the wall box, then plug it into the Ethernet jack on the back of the power box (Figure 8). Figure 5: Insert Ethernet cable into power box Note: The Ethernet port on the power box does not have functioning indicator LEDs. 2 Go to Attach the power box and touchscreen below. Connecting AC power The steps below represent a typical U.S. installation. Caution: Use only 14 AWG wire for AC connections. For supply connections, use wires suitable for at least 60 C (140 F). 1 Connect the wires to the AC power source for the touchscreen according to national and local electrical codes. Installation may require alternative wires and the use of the included terminal block. 2 Pull the power cable through a right-side knockout hole of the wall box to the terminal block. 3 Strip the black and white power wire ends to 1/4" as necessary. Using a flat-head screwdriver, loosen the screws on the power boxs terminal block and connect the power wires to each terminal (Figure 5), then tighten the screws. Figure 6: Connect AC power to terminal block 4 If using a plastic wall box with an exposed bare copper ground, wrap the ground in electrical tape or heat shrink tape/tubing. MOST RECENT VERSION T4 IN-WALL TOUCHSCREEN INSTALL GUIDE ctrl4.co/wallbox-new ctrl4.co/t4-inwall-ig When using Ethernet or PoE, the wall box should be near a location where an Ethernet Cat 5/6 cable is pulled. When using AC power, position the wall box above or near an AC power source, such as an AC outlet. 2 Hold the wall box and stud plate against the nearest stud, then mark the correct position according to your choices in Step 1. Follow these guidelines:
More help a Place the wall box so that, when mounted, it is flush with the surface of the drywall after the drywall is installed. For example, if the drywall is 3/8 of an inch deep, the front rim of the wall box must be 3/8 of an inch above the wall stud (toward you). Important: Make sure the wall box is flush with the wall after the drywall is installed. Allow 3/8 of an inch before the drywall is installed (depending on the thickness of the drywall), and err toward 5/16 inch for the best fit. b Install the wall box according to the arrows inside the box that indicate the correct side up. Important: For safety, install the wall box with the correct side up. c Install the wall box with the stud plate on either the right or the left side, depending on which wall stud you choose. You may detach the stud plate from the wall box on one side and reattach it on the opposite side, if needed. 3 Detach the stud plate from the wall box. Plastic box: Slide the wall plate toward the back of the wall box. Metal box: Unscrew the wall box from the stud plate. This allows you to attach the stud plate to the wall stud without interference from the wall box. 4 Align the stud plate with the marks you made on the stud (Step 2). If you are using a plastic wall box, make sure the dovetail is toward the back of the stud plate (away from you). 5 Nail or screw the stud plate to the wall stud. Recommended hardware: #9/3.5 mm wood screw or 6D/3 mm nail. 6 Mount the wall box to the stud plate. Plastic box: Slide the wall box onto the stud plate dovetail all the way, leaving the wall box protruding the depth of the drywall, or slightly less
(Step 2a). Metal box: Bolt the wall box back onto the stud plate. Note: If you are using a metal box, you can continue to adjust its angle and position slightly relative to the drywall. 7 When running cables into the wall box, use a left-side knockout for the Ethernet cable, and use a right-side knockout for the AC power (if used). Note: The left (low-voltage) and right (high-voltage) sides of the wall box are separated by a barrier. Low-voltage connections must be pulled through a knockout on the left side, and high-voltage on the right. Caution: Use only 14 AWG wire for AC connections. For supply connections, use wires suitable for at least 60 C (140 F). 8 Install the drywall as you would normally, making sure to cut the size of the hole accurately. Device classifications Since host devices vary widely with design features and configurations, module integrators shall follow the guidelines below regarding device classification and simultaneous transmission and seek guidance from their preferred regulatory test lab to determine how regulatory guidelines will impact the device compliance. Proactive management of the regulatory process will minimize unexpected schedule delays and costs due to unplanned testing activities. The module integrator must determine the minimum distance required between their host device and the users body. The FCC provides device classification definitions to assist in making the correct determination. Note that these classifications are guidelines only; strict adherence to a device classification may not satisfy the regulatory requirement as near-body device design details may vary widely. Your preferred test lab will be able to assist in determining the appropriate device category for your host product and if a KDB or PBA must be submitted to the FCC. Note: The module you are using has been granted modular approval for mobile applications. Portable applications may require further RF exposure (SAR) evaluations. It is also likely that the host/module combination will need to undergo testing for FCC Part 15 regardless of the device classification. Your preferred test lab will be able to assist in determining the exact tests which are required on the host/module combination. FCC definitions Portable: (2.1093) A portable device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used so that the radiating structure(s) of the device is/are within 20 centimeters of the body of the user. 3 Mobile: (2.1091) (b) A mobile device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used in other than fixed locations and to generally be used in such a way that a separation distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitters radiating structure(s) and the body of the user or nearby persons. Per 2.1091d(d)(4) In some cases (for example, modular or desktop transmitters), the potential conditions of use of a device may not allow easy classification of that device as either Mobile or Portable. In these cases, applicants are responsible for determining minimum distances for compliance for the intended use and installation of the device based on evaluation of either specific absorption rate (SAR), field strength, or power density, whichever is most appropriate. Simultaneous transmission evaluation This module has not been evaluated or approved for simultaneous transmission as it is impossible to determine the exact multi-transmission scenario that a host manufacturer may choose. Any simultaneous transmission condition established through module integration into a host product must be evaluated per the requirements in KDB447498D01(8) and KDB616217D01,D03 (for laptop, notebook, netbook, and tablet applications). These requirements include, but are not limited to:
Transmitters and modules certified for mobile or portable exposure conditions can be incorporated in mobile host devices without further testing or certification when:
The closest separation among all simultaneous transmitting antennas is >20 cm, Antenna separation distance and MPE compliance requirements for ALL simultaneous transmitting antennas have been specified in the application filing of at least one of the certified transmitters within the host device. In addition, when transmitters certified for portable use are incorporated in a mobile host device, the antenna(s) must be >5 cm from all other simultaneous transmitting antennas. All antennas in the final product must be at least 20 cm from users and nearby persons. Or FCC statements This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and 2) This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Cet appareil est conforme la section 15 des rglementations de la FCC. Le fonctionnement de lappareil est sujetaux deux conditions suivantes :

FCC Radiation Exposure Statement FCC Modular Usage Statement Note 1: This module certified complies with RF exposure requirements under mobile or fixed condition; this module is to be installed only in mobile or fixed applications. A mobile device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used in other than fixed locations and to generally be used in such a way that a separation distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitter's radiating structure(s) and the body of the user or nearby persons. Transmitting devices designed to be used by consumers or workers that can be easily re-located, such as wireless devices associated with a personal computer, are considered to be mobile devices if they meet the 20 centimeter separation requirement. A fixed device is defined as a device is physically secured at one location and is not able to be easily moved to another location. Note 2: Host product manufacturers must provide in their user manual the required RF exposure information for mobile & fixed usage of this module. Host product manufacturers must use the following RF exposure statement in their user manual This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. This equipment should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm between the radiator and all persons. This transmitter must not be co-location or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. Note 3: To ensure compliance with all non-transmitter functions the host manufacturer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the module(s) installed and fully operational. For example, if a host was previously authorized as an unintentional radiator under the Suppliers Declaration of Conformity procedure without a transmitter certified module and a module is added, the host manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that the after the module is installed and operational the host continues to be compliant with the part 15B unintentional radiator requirements. Since this may depend on the details of how the module is integrated with the host, the manufacturer shall provide guidance to the host manufacturer for compliance with the part 15B requirements.
