WHISPER VETERINARY DEVICE USER MANUAL WHISPER VETERINARY DEVICE 2 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Whisper On-Arrival system is composed of both hardware and software components. The Whisper Veterinary device works in conjunction with a wireless-based application that is installed and run on a chute-side computer (tablet). Individual animal body weight and rectal temperature are entered by the operator in the tablet and the thoracic (i.e. chest) sound data is captured by the device and transmitted to the tablet. A machine-learning algorithm utilizes the information to predict the risk of BRD and provide the user with a BRD control decision (i.e. Treat or Do Not Treat). WHISPER VETERINARY DEVICE 3 DEVICE CONSTRUCTION The device is constructed of plastic, rubber and metal materials to ensure the protection of the electronics from adverse environmental conditions which may include moisture, environmental temperature, shock and vibration. Sound absorbing materials are used on the exterior of the device to minimize interference from external noises within the processing barn and capture a clear sound from the heart and lungs of the animal. The device is composed of a head and a handle that are connected by a padded shaft. The head includes six sound sensors, a charge port, a rechargeable lithium battery and a swivel connection. To charge the lithium battery, plug the charger into the connector on the front of the head, behind the door. Once the charger is connected, the LED light on the handle will flash in 5 second intervals. When the battery is fully charged, the flashing LED light will not rapidly blink even though the charger may still be plugged in. 4 The handle contains two recording buttons for convenience, as both buttons perform the same functions. The handle houses the LED lights that are powered by two standard AAA alkaline type batteries that should last a few months in normal operation and storage conditions. NOTE The lithium batteries are shipped from the manufacturer in a low charge state. BEFORE FIRST USE, ensure the battery is fully charged. WHISPER VETERINARY DEVICE 5 OPERATING THE DEVICE To turn the device on, push and release either button on the handle. The blue LED light will come on for approximately 4 seconds and then turn off. The head communicates with the handle wirelessly. When the handle and the head are communicating properly, the light will blink green in 5 seconds intervals. If the communication has been lost or the head has gone into sleep mode, the indicator will blink blue. To wake up the paddle and/or to reestablish communication to the app, press either button on the handle. NOTE To ensure optimal performance, only one device should be on at any given time. Having multiple devices on may interfere with data transfer and create challenges with app functionality. 6 CLEANING THE DEVICE Maintaining the cleanliness of the device will help ensure optimal performance, functionality and will extend the life of the equipment. It is advised that it is cleaned at the end of each processing day. To clean the device, use water from a hose or a faucet to rinse off the handle, the padded shaft and the head. Use a soft rag (or your hand) to assist in removing all dirt from the device. NOTE DO NOT clean the device with a high-pressure sprayer or submerge it under water (such as in a bucket). The charger cover on the device must be seated in the charge connector in order to seal the connector properly and prevent water intrusion. WHISPER VETERINARY DEVICE 7 CHARGING THE DEVICE At the end of each processing day (or anytime the system is not in use), we recommend plugging the charger into the head to ensure enough power is available for the next processing session. Plug the charger into the end of the head of the device. Once connected, the LED light on the handle will turn off and on in 5 second intervals
(rapid blinks). 8 SPECIFICATIONS GENERAL POWER Handle Head Wall Charger 1,5 Vdc AAA alkaline battery 3.7 Vdc Rechargeable battery pack 90 to 240Vac 50 to 60 Hz PHYSICAL | ENVIRONMENTAL Dimensions:
