The Polartec Heat Blanket represents the introduction of smart fabric technol-
ogy into heated blankets, and provides Warmth on Demand by safely and actively heating extraordinarily fine conductive fibers that are knit into the blanket. Low-voltage power warms the entire surface, providing an even distribution of heat. The discreet nature of the heating technology allows you to use the blanket throughout the year. The innovative wireless remote controls are designed to provide easy tempera-
ture adjustment by the user. These feature a range of temperature settings with a back-lit display. When first turned on, a pre-heat cycle warms the blanket. If you forget to turn the blanket off, an automatic shut-off function will do this for you after 10 hours of continuous use. Queen and King blankets are shipped with two color-coded remotes to allow each user to easily distinguish between them and control separate sides. (Double blanket has one remote.) The elegant design of the remote allows it to be placed on a night stand or attached to a bed sheet, providing nighttime ease of use. This is the blanket for the 21st century. We know you will enjoy it. Polartec quality Warmth on Demand Safe, low-voltage power (28 volts DC) Dual heating zones Ergonomic, wireless remote controls Four-season versatility Easy care, machine washable 10-hour automatic shut-off Industry-standard blanket sizing Plugs into any household outlet 5 INSTRUCTION MANUAL OP 8/20/01 10:45 AM Page 4 Getting Started Follow these instructions to get your new Polartec Heat Blanket set up and running. Make Your Bed (Be sure to follow these steps in order.) 1. Remove blanket, wireless remote controls, and base unit from packaging.
(Double blanket has one remote.) 2. Unfold blanket and place on bed, label side at foot of bed facing UP. 3. Firmly insert the blanket cord into the blanket connector at the foot of the bed until the snaps lock into place. The connector can only be inserted one way. Note: Always connect the blanket cord to the blanket BEFORE plugging the power cord into a 110120 volt wall outlet. 4. Place the base unit on the floor out of the way. If placed under the bed, be sure that objects or bedding do not block the vents. PROVIDE AT LEAST 2" CLEARANCE ON TOP AND AROUND ALL SIDES. 5. Plug the power cord into the electrical wall outlet. CAUTION: Make sure power cords are not trapped or pinched between bed slats, mattress, springs, against wall, footboard, or bed frame. CAUTION: This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit one way into an outlet. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug and try again. If it still does not fit, call a professional electrician. Do not attempt to defeat the safety feature. 6. Cover the Polartec Heat Blanket with a comforter, bedspread, or blanket. Covering the Polartec Heat Blanket insures the blanket heats your bed, not your bedroom. 7. Turn the blanket ON by turning the dial on a wireless remote control clock-
wise. The base unit will beep indicating the blanket has begun operation.
(Initial preheat cycle takes 2030 minutes.) Note: For King and Queen blankets, the yellow remote is pre-assigned to operate the right side of the blanket, and the green remote operates the left. Please see page 7 if you want one remote to control the entire blanket. L (LEFT) AND R (RIGHT) ARE NOTED ON THE BLANKET LABEL ABOVE THE CONNECTOR. The Polartec Heat Blanket is designed to provide soft, blissful, all-night warmth. It is NOT intended to deliver the pain relieving heat of a heating pad. To maximize the warmth of your Polartec Heat Blanket, be sure to cover your blanket with a bedspread, comforter, or blanket. Enjoy a good nights sleep under your Polartec Heat Blanket!

If the room is dark, the backlight on the remote will be visible and will glow for 3 seconds. 2. Adjust the dial to change the temperature to any of 6 levels. Rotate all the way clockwise for highest heat level and all the way counter-
clockwise to turn the power OFF. Whenever an adjustment is made or the illumination button is pressed, the base unit will beep. The backlight will glow for 3 seconds. The amount of light you see is propor-
tional to the heat level selected. The backlight is tuned to be seen in a dark bedroom environment without causing uncomfortable glare. Pressing the illumination button gently lights the remote for 3 seconds so you can check your heat level. If the 10-hour automatic shut-off time limit is reached, press the illumination button to restart the blanket while you are still in bed. 3. Turn the On/Off dial counter-clockwise to turn the blanket OFF. Note: The base unit has three lights on it. One amber and two red lights are located on the top surface. You can use one remote to operate both sides of the blanket (both sides of the blanket will have the same heat level). Or, you can use two remotes to set separate heat levels for each side of the blanket. L (LEFT) AND R (RIGHT) ARE NOTED ON THE BLANKET LABEL ABOVE THE CONNECTOR. 1. Prior to setting the control side, be sure that the amber light on the base unit is lit, the battery is installed in the remote, and the remote has been synchronized to the base unit. 2. This is done so that the remotes used with the blanket are the only ones that can control it. 1. Make sure the blanket is plugged in, the base units amber light is on, both remotes are nearby, and there is a battery in each one. 2. Using a pencil or paper clip, press in the RESET button on the bottom of the base unit. Both remote addresses are immediately forgotten. Note: Both red lights on the base unit will flash. 3. Press the center illumination button on one remote,
(the button with the Polartec logo ) and one of the red lights on the base unit will illuminate steadily indicating the code has been received. 4. Press the center illumination button of the second remote to store its code. The second light will illuminate steadily. Note: It is necessary to synchronize both remotes each time. This insures that both operate properly. Check that the base unit is plugged in and connected to the blanket. 2. Check that the battery is properly installed in the remote. 3. Re-synchronize the remotes to the base unit. My wireless remote control is not transmitting commands properly. Move the remote 6 inches and re-transmit. My blanket isnt heating quickly. The blanket takes 2030 minutes to reach maximum temperature. This is because of its energy-efficient design. My blanket does not seem to be heating up. The Polartec Heat Blanket provides soft, blissful heat for all-night warmth. It is NOT intended to deliver the pain relieving heat of a heating pad. To maximize the warmth of your Polartec Heat Blanket, be sure to cover your blanket with a bedspread, comforter, or blanket. To check that the blanket is operating correctly, please follow these steps:
1. Fold blanket with at least 4 folds. 2. Connect the blanket cord to the blanket, and plug the power cord into a working wall outlet. 3. Turn the wireless remote control ON, and rotate the dial clockwise all the way to the right. The remote should illuminate, and the base unit should beep. Wait 10 minutes. 4. Place your hand inside the folds of the blanket. You should feel warmth. 5. Turn the remote OFF. CAUTION: This folded position is a non-standard use of the blanket. Do not continue this test for more than 15 minutes. My blanket shuts off after a while, why?
The blanket is provided with a 10-hour automatic shut-off feature for your safety. If the blanket has turned off, simply press the center illumination button on your remote, and the blanket will re-activate. If this blanket is DC, can I use it in Europe?
The blanket is only rated to be used in the US and Canada at the present time using 110120 V AC, 60 Hz power. Using other power sources can damage the blanket and may cause serious safety risk. My blanket has a ribbed appearance. Is this normal?
Yes, the blanket works by heating extraordinarily fine conductive fibers that are knit into the blanket. These are close together and may give the blanket a subtle ribbed look. If you have additional question or concerns, please contact Lands End Customer Service at 800-746-3467. 13
