Effective April 23, 1973, units capable of producing A3 emission are not considered to be emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) as defined in Section 87.5 of the Rules. When carried or installed for survival purposes these units will be licensed only in conjunction with another VHF radiotelephone transmitter in an aircraft station. All units have been shown to meet the bandwidth and/or modulation requirements of Sections 87.67(b)(1) and 87.73(h), respectively. No determination has been made by the FCC as to the capability of the equipment to meet other than FCC requirements.
