Placethemonitornearwhereyousleep, preferablyonanightstandoratable.Your monitoriscapableofreceivingsignalsfrom yourheartdeviceupto3meters(10feet)away, butyoushouldconsultyourheartdevice manualforrecommendeddistancesspecificto yourdevice. 19 Placethemonitorwhereyoucansitcomfortably andseethefrontofthemonitor. Placethemonitorinalocationthatreceivesan adequatecellularsignal. Placethemonitorwithinreachofapower outlet,andpositionitsothatitcanbe unpluggedfromthepoweroutletifnecessary. Donotplacethemonitoranywhereitcouldget wet. Setting up the monitor Beforeyouusethemonitoryouwillneedtoplug themonitorintoapoweroutlet. Topluginyourmonitor,locatethepowercord portontheleftsideofthemonitorbase.Insertthe powercordendintothemonitorsideport,then plugthewallplugintoawalloutlet. Whencompletingfirsttimesetup. Attherequestofyourdoctororclinic. Beforeusingyourmonitor:
Turnoffanytelevision,computermonitor,or screenwithintwometers(sixfeet)ofthe monitor. 21 Turnofforremoveanycellularphoneorother wirelessdevicethatiswithintwometers(six feet)ofthemonitor. Whenyousendatransmissionusingthis procedure,yourmonitorscreenwillalsoshowstep bystepinstructionsforyoutofollow.Youcanuse theseonscreeninstructionstoguideyouthrough thisprocedure. Note: Ifthemonitorscreenshowsanerror messageiconduringthisprocedure,referto Troubleshootingerrormessagesonpage 31of thismanual. To send information using your monitor, perform the following steps:
1. Ifthemonitorscreenisdark,presstheAccept buttononthefrontofthemonitortowakeup thescreen. 2. Whenmonitorwakeupiscomplete,the monitorscreenwillshowanimageindicating thatthemonitorisreadytobegina transmission. 22 3. PresstheAcceptbutton.Themonitorscreen willshowanimageinstructingyoutopickup thereader. 4. Whenthemonitorscreenshowsanimageofa readerbeingplacedoveradevice,holdthe readeroveryourimplanteddevice.Youmay 23 eitherholdthereadersnuglyagainstyour clothing,oragainstyourbareskin. 5. Whenthemonitorbeginsreadingdatafrom yourimplanteddevice,themonitorscreenwill showagreenprogressbar,indicatingthatdata isbeingsentfromthereadertothemonitor base. 24 120 s Whilethemonitoriscommunicatingwith yourimplanteddevice,remainstillandmake surethemonitorreaderisplacedoveryour implanteddevice.Thisprocesstypicallytakes lessthan3 minutes,butmaytakeupto 12 minutes. 6. Whenthemonitorisfinishedcommunicating withyourimplanteddevice,themonitorwill maketwoshorttones,andthemonitorscreen willinstructyoutoreturnthereadertothe monitorbase. 25 7. Themonitorwillsendyourimplanteddevice datatotheCareLinkNetwork.Themonitor screenwillshowagreenprogressbar indicatingthatdataisbeingsent. 120 s 26 8. Yourtransmissioniscompletewhenthe monitormakestwoshorttonesandthemonitor screenshowsagreencheckmarkimage. 27 Start-up screen information Whenyourmonitorisactivatedbypressingthe Acceptbutton,yourmonitorscreenwillshowa systemstatusimagewiththefollowing information:

Note: The date format shown on your monitor will depend on which country you are in. This icon means the monitor is ready to begin a transmission. Press the Accept button to begin a transmission. 29 Reader LED indicator lights ThemonitorsreaderhasthreeLEDindicator lightsthatindicatethestatusofatransmission,the connectionbetweenthereaderandmonitorbase, andthereadersbatterystatus. 1 2 3 Table 2. reader LED indicator lights Description Indicator Light The green indicator light shows 1 Green indicator light transmission of data between the reader and monitor base. When the green indicator light is lit, the reader is transmitting data to the monitor base. 30 Table 2. reader LED indicator lights Indicator Light Description The blue indicator light shows the 2 Blue indicator light connection between the reader and monitor base. A flashing blue light means the 3 Amber indicator light reader is establishing a connection with the monitor base A sold blue light means the reader and monitor base are connected. The amber indicator light shows the battery status of the reader. If the amber indicator light is lit, the reader battery is low. Place the reader on the monitor base to recharge the reader battery. Whenyouplacethereaderonthemonitorbase,all threeindicatorlightswillflashbrieflytoindicate thatthereaderisproperlydockedwiththe monitorbase.
