Your Fall Protection Device is equipped with the 3M DBI-SALA Comfort Grip Connected (CGC) Hook (Figure 1). The CGC Hooks incorporate electronic functionality that provides condition and usage status previously not available in traditional hooks. The CGC Hook utilizes software and electronics to provide users and on-site safety professionals with feedback during and after use of the device. Figure 2 illustrates key components of the CGC Hook. Red and Blue LEDs, powered by an onboard Battery (A), blink visual status of the CGC Hook on a Multi-Directional Display (B). Wireless connectivity enables communication of status and usage data to the 3M Connected Equipment app on a Bluetooth mobile device. Component Specifications:

; First time or infrequent users of Comfort Grip Connected (CGC) Hooks should review the Safety Information at the beginning of this manual prior to use of the CGC Hook. 1.1 On-Board User Interface: The Comfort Grip Connected (CGC) Hook has a two-color Multi-Directional LED Display to indicate the status of the CGC Hook (see Figure 3). Additional wireless connectivity enables communication of status and usage data to the 3M Connected Equipment app on a Bluetooth mobile device. These electronic functions provide users and on-site safety professionals feedback during and after use of the CGC Hook.
; Feedback provided from the electronics on the CGC Hook is not a substitute for situational awareness and safe work practices. Do not rely on electronic device feedback as a substitute for required safety procedures, product inspection, or monitoring of personnel working at height. Red LED Blink Patterns:
Reason Tie-Off Alert Electronic Failure Occurs When... Only one hook is tied off and its Gate Release is depressed. Electronics have failed the Power-On Self Test. The Sensing and Alert Mechanism may not be working properly. Blink Pattern Fast Blink for 5 Seconds Long, Slow, Repeating Blinks Blue LED Blink Patterns:
Reason Low Battery Occurs When... Blink Pattern Battery level has fallen below the Replace Now threshold. Quick Blink, Repeating Every Three Seconds Enter Deep Sleep Hook electronics are going into Deep Sleep Mode (no gate activity sensed on either hook for one hour). One Quick Blink Exit Deep Sleep BLE Connection Calibration Hook electronics have come out of Deep Sleep Mode
(due to a gate opening). Two Quick Blinks A Bluetooth connection has been established with the companion hook, or a Bluetooth connection has been established with the phone app. Anchor Sensor baseline calibration is complete. Calibration is initiated by opening and closing the Gate Release five times. One blink, 1 Second Duration Five Short, Rapid Blinks Red/Blue LED Blink Patterns:
Reason Fall Alert Cold Start Occurs When... Blink Pattern At least one of the hooks has detected a fall. Red and Blue Continuous Alternating Blink Battery is connected. Indicates Cold Start and confirms Red and Blue LEDs are functional. One Quick Blue Blink, followed by One Quick Blink of Both LEDs. Bluetooth Connectivity: Wireless connectivity enables communication of status and usage data to the 3M Connected Equipment app on a Bluetooth mobile device. For details, contact a 3M Customer Service representative
(see back cover). When a Bluetooth connection is established, the Blue LED Indicator Light on the Multi-Directional LED Display will flash once for a one-second duration. 1.2 Anchor Sensor Calibration: On rare occasions, the Anchor Sensor of a CGC Hook may lose calibration. If the CGC Hook blinks and shows a Tie-Off Alert whenever the Gate Release is pressed, even when the CGC Hook is not connected to anchorage, the Anchor Sensor may need to be recalibrated. Figure 4 illustrates calibration of the Anchor Sensor. To recalibrate the Anchor Sensor:
1. Ensure that the CGC Hook is not connected to anchorage (no metal anchor inside the bowl of the hook). 2. Press and release the Gate Release five times within two seconds. 3. The CGC Hooks Blue LED will flash quickly several times to confirm calibration has occurred. 6 2.0 Maintenance, Service, and Storage 2.1 BATTERY REPLACEMENT: The CGC Hook is powered by a 9 Volt Battery. Battery life will vary with frequency of use and the environmental conditions in which the CGC Hook is used and stored. Under normal use conditions, the battery should be replaced when the blue LED low battery pattern is blinking, as described in Section 2.1, Blue LED Blink Patterns. Replace discharged batteries promptly. Replace the battery with a 9V alkaline or 9V non-rechargeable lithium battery. Use of any other type of battery may present risk of fire or explosion.
; Lithium Battery Usage: If a Lithium Battery is used in this device, it may present a risk of fire or chemical burn if mistreated. Do not disassemble, heat above 130 F (54 C), or incinerate. Figure 5 illustrates replacement of the battery. To replace the battery:
1. Remove the four screws securing the Battery Cover and remove the Battery Cover. Save the screws for reuse. 2. Pull the Battery and Battery Connector Wire out of the enclosure, taking care not to damage or pinch the Battery Connector Wires. 3. Disconnect the Battery from the Battery Connector. Dispose of the Battery properly. Keep away from children. Do not disassemble the Battery or burn in a fire for disposal. 4. Connect the Battery Connector, observing proper polarity of the battery and connector. 5. Insert the Battery into the enclosure. Take care not to damage or pinch the Battery Connector Wires. When fully inserted, the Battery should sit below the surface of the enclosure to allow for proper installation of the Battery Cover. If the Battery is not positioned properly in the enclosure, reinsert the Battery, ensuring the Battery Connector Wires are not obstructing proper insertion of the Battery. Inspect the Battery Cover to ensure the Gasket (A) is present on the inside of the cover and is in good condition. Reinstall the Battery Cover and secure with the four screws. Do not overtighten the screws. 6. 2.2 SERVICE: Additional maintenance and servicing procedures must be completed by an authorized service center. Do not attempt to disassemble the CGC Hook or lubricate any parts. 3.0 Labels and Markings Figure 6 illustrates labels and markings on the the Comfort Grip Connected Hooks and their locations. All labels must be present on the CGC Hook. Labels must be replaced if they are not fully legible. 7 U.S. PRODUCT WARRANTY, LIMITED REMEDY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY WARRANTY: THE FOLLOWING IS MADE IN LIEU OF ALL WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
