This installation instruction covers the Aclara Catalog number 3581-055-RBS2W for this gas meter. (The images in this document are for reference only.) Keep extra hardware on hand. NOTE No repair or maintenance of MTU is required. Defective MTU will be replaced. NOTE MTU may be wiped with damp cloth to prevent electrostatic charge hazard. 2 D r e s s e r B 3 M e t e r M T U I n s t a l l a t i o n I n s t r u c t i o n s Tools Required To mount the MTU to these meters, you will need the following tools and equipment:
Phillips or slotted screwdriver Safety glasses 9/64" T-handle hex key, 9" long 5/32" T-handle hex key, 9" long 5 - 40 in-lb Torque wrench Remove Index Before installing the MTU, remove all anti-tamper, safety, and security hardware from the clear index cover. 1. Remove the four index cover screws. NOTE Do not install MTU if any of the screws are broken. 3 D r e s s e r B 3 M e t e r M T U I n s t a l l a t i o n I n s t r u c t i o n s s 2. Remove and discard the slip flange. 3. Carefully remove the index unit by pulling it straight out from the meter body. 4. Remove and discard the screws that hold the index to the clear housing using a 9/64" hex key wrench. The screw may be accessed through the tool access port. 5. If present, remove the dessicant pack, and wipe the mating surface of the meter with a clean, non-
abrasive cloth. Unpack New Cover 1. Unhook the beaded tie wrap, and remove the protective cardboard and any remaining packaging. 2. Remove the hardware packet from inside the housing. Verify that the hardware packet contains:

(GE P/N 060337-003) 1 1 2 1 3. Verify the Quad-ring seal is installed securely into the circular groove in the new cover. 4. Remove and retain the #8-32 x 1/2 socket head cap screw. NOTE The MTU will already be pre-installed in the index cover. 6 5. Insert the #8-32 x 1/2" socket head cap screw (removed in Step 4) into the mounting hole as shown. Orient the index so the #8-32 x 1/2" socket head cap screw lines up with the threaded insert in the MTU assembly. The remaining mounting hole will correspond with the alignment pin on the MTU assembly. 7. Hold the index by the magnetic pickup, and while maintaining alignment, partially lower the index into the cover. 8 D r e s s e r B 3 M e t e r M T U I n s t a l l a t i o n I n s t r u c t i o n s 8. Verify the index drive engages with the MTU gear before lowering the index completely. The index drive and MTU gear should turn together smoothly. 9. Tighten the #8-32 x 1/2 socket head cap screw to 9-11 inch-lbs. 10. Install the new dessicant pack by removing the adhesive backing, and pressing firmly to the meter as shown. 12. Install the index/MTU/cover assembly to the meter head as shown. 10 13. Install the three mounting screws and one security seal screw into the mounting holes, tightening just enough to hold the assembly temporarily. 15. Tighten the screws in a cross pattern to 14-16 in-lbs. Putting the Device into Service Once installation is complete, program the MTU using the STAR Programmer Software and a field programmer.
