Connect a regulated power supply to the rear terminals at the back of the caller unit. Using a 12 VDC filtered and regulated primary power source is recommended.
[Battery Power] Insert four UM-3 size AA alkaline cells into the battery compartment. It is strongly recommend to use alkaline batteries instead of rechargeable batteries because at low temperature
(below 0 oC), rechargeable type batteries have a poor performance and its power capacity will be less. The caller unit will automatically switch to the alkaline battery power if the main power is interrupted. (if batteries are installed) Handset 1. Insert the supplied rechargeable battery pack into the battery compartment. Note the two exposed terminals on the battery pack should come into contact with the battery spring. 2. Keeping the handset switched off, close the battery cover and place it into the charger stand. 3. Plug in the supplied power supply adapter into an AC outlet and connect its output plug to the DC jack located at the back of the charger stand. 4. The CHARGE and FULL LED indicators should flash red and green alternately while the battery status is being detected. After a short while, the CHARGE indicator should flash red only, 4-1800 Appleby Line, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, L7L 6A1 Phone: (888) 887-0738, Fax: (905) 592-9691 Page 4 of 9 LT-022_R2 showing the battery is charging. During charging, the battery icon will show up in the LCD display and the segments inside the icon will flash sequentially. 5. The battery pack should be fully charged within 4 hours when used for the first time. The FULL charge indicator will illuminate steady green when the handset is fully charged and the battery icon will disappear on the handset LCD display. When the handset is switched on, the battery icon will remain shown on LCD display. 6. The unit can be switched on by pressing and holding the RED cradle button until the LCD display turns on. The handset can be left in the charger stand. Keeping the handset in the charging cradle will cause no damage to the battery. In the latter case, when the battery drains and the voltage falls to a certain level, the charger stand will automatically charge up the battery. The segments inside the battery icon will flash sequentially whenever the unit is being charged. CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE BATTERIES IN THE HANDSET ARE THE RECHARGEABLE TYPE BEFORE YOU PLACE IT IN THE CHARGER STAND, OTHERWISE THE BATTERIES MAY EXPLODE. D. Programming Pairing the Handset and Caller Unit. This process is necessary to prevent other nearby communication systems from interfering with your system which might be set to the same channel as yours. Each communication system is designated with a unique ID code, only handsets and caller units which have the same code can communicate with each other. There are over 65,000 different code combinations and so the chances that you and a neighbouring system have the same code are extremely low. To perform the pairing process, it is necessary to have alkaline batteries in the caller unit while the 8-
12V supply should be temporarily disconnected. Figure 5 Figure 6 1. Set the DIP switch to the PAIRING position on the caller unit. 2. Press the RED cradle button while holding down the GREEN cradle button simultaneously. 3. Press the call button on the caller unit. 4. A beep sound will be heard and the letter P flashes on the LCD screen. 5. The pairing process is now completed. To confirm if the pairing is successful, reset the caller unit DIP switch back to its NORMAL position and insert the batteries back in the caller unit. 4-1800 Appleby Line, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, L7L 6A1 Phone: (888) 887-0738, Fax: (905) 592-9691 Page 5 of 9 LT-022_R2 Press the call button on the caller unit and the handset should respond. In the unlikely event you get interference during the pairing process or receive a call from a nearby system, repeat the pairing process again. If the pairing process is not successful (the P continues to flash for over 1 minute), switch off the handset and cut off the power supply to caller unit, then repeat the procedures from step 1. NOTE: When using more than one handset, always perform the pairing process with one caller unit and one handset only. Remember every time you add on new units to the system, either handset or caller unit (for rear gate use), it is necessary to perform the cloning process otherwise the new units will not work with your original system. CAUTION: Remember to set the yellow DIP switch back to NORMAL position after pairing or cloning procedures, otherwise the caller unit will not operate properly. E. Mounting of Caller Unit MOUNTING HOLES PROVIDED AT REAR OF CALLER UNIT 1. Select a location near the entrance where the surface is verticle. The preferred mounting surface should not be metal or the location be near high voltage electrical equipment which may reduce the operating range. Using the supplied self tapping screws, fix the caller unit to the wall. The supplied paper template at the end of this manual will be helpful in drilling the correct position of holes. 2. When using an 8-12VAC supply, connect it to the terminals marked at the back of caller unit. When an external power Figure 7 supply is used, the name plate will illuminated only when it is dark. The electric door latch opening feature and the name plate light will not operate when the caller unit is only powered by the AA batteries, so as to save the battery life of the unit. 3. If an electric solenoid door release is used, refer to figure 7. 4. An auxiliary call button output is provided to simultaneously trigger an accessory device such as an external audible device or surveillance camera. 12 VDC
AUX Power Supply 12 VDC, 0.5 A Figure 8 There are two types of electric door releases; fail-safe or fail secure. FAIL SAFE: (Normally closed contacts) The two terminals are normally closed to complete the circuit of a mag-lock. When the lock release button on the handset is pressed, the two terminals will momentarily open for one second to de-energize the mag-lock and permit entry. FAIL-SECURE: (Normally open contacts) The two terminals are normally open circuited to an electric solenoid door strike. When the lock release button on the handset is pressed, the external power from terminal 1 will be momentarily sent to the electric solenoid for two seconds. Under no circumstances should 120 VAC Voltage be directly connected to the terminal block. Electric Door Release 4-1800 Appleby Line, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, L7L 6A1 Phone: (888) 887-0738, Fax: (905) 592-9691 Page 6 of 9 LT-022_R2 5. Once the two screws on the mounting bracket are inserted into the hole on the metal hangers on the rear of the caller unit, fix the caller unit to the mounting plate. Use the supplied machine screws. Now insert the alkaline batteries into the battery compartment and install the black battery cover. 6. Ensure the DIP switches are set to the NORMAL position. 7. Before you install the aluminum alloy cover, you can print a name on the supplied translucent PVC name plate and secure the cover with the vandal-resistant fastener and supplied screw driver. 8. The caller unit is housed in a high impact ABS plastic strengthened by an aluminum alloy. A rubber gasket seals around all joints and terminals to keep out dust, rain and snow. When properly sealed the caller unit will provide years of reliable operation even in harsh environments. The unit complies with the IP-54 standard and can operate from -30C to 55C. F. OPERATION a) Switch on the handset by pressing the RED cradle button for three seconds. Press and hold the same button again for three seconds in case you want to switch off the unit. b) The LCD screen will turn on. If the battery icon appears and an audible alarm is heard, the battery has run down and needs to be recharged by placing the handset unit into the charger stand. During charging, battery icon segments will flash in turn regardless if the unit is switched on or off. To protect the battery, if the unit is not being re-charged and the battery icon is displayed, it will be switched off automatically after 5 minutes. c) Select the preferred door chime melody using the musical note symbol button. (3 choices) d) Select the preferred alert mode using the bell symbol button. Depending on your selection, either one of the seven icons will be shown on the screen. Audible Flashing light Vibrate Audible and flashing light Audible and vibrate Flashing light and vibrate Audible, flashing light and vibrate NOTE: if you select a combination audible with vibrating alert, the battery will discharge faster. e) Adjust the volume of the audible call using the up and down buttons. During a conversation, the volume for the earpiece can also be adjusted using the same buttons. These two adjustments are independent from each other. Example: you can have a low level call but have the earpiece audio level high for communicating. f) Set the DIP switch position for a second caller unit to ON only if a second outdoor unit is installed. A wrong setting will lead to a false out-of-range alert A or B on the LCD display of the handset. g) Make sure there is power supplied to the caller unit (either by 8-12V AC or alkaline batteries). A red LED will flash periodically on the caller unit. i) TO MAKE A CALL:
Press the call button, a ringing tone will be heard and the BELL indicator on the caller unit starts flashing until the handset answers the call. A ringing tone will be heard at the caller unit confirming to the visitor the call has been placed. In case there is no answer after 40 seconds, the caller unit ends the call by itself and the BELL indicator goes off. Press the call button to initiate the call again. 4-1800 Appleby Line, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, L7L 6A1 Phone: (888) 887-0738, Fax: (905) 592-9691 Page 7 of 9 LT-022_R2 ii) DURING A CONVERSATION:
Once the call has been answered, the BELL indicator will light up steady confirming the communication link has been established. Simply talk into the microphone of the caller unit. To avoid feedback which may create an echo at the handset, the output from speaker will be muted when the visitor is talking. Therefore, it is recommended that while the visitor is talking to you, try not to talk back at the same time from the handset as they will not be able to hear what you say. Handset users should speak only when the visitor stops talking. iii) RESPONDING TO A CALL:
Upon receiving a call, either icon A or icon B appears on the screen, depending if the call is from the front gate (A) or back gate (B) (An optional extra caller unit for another gate can be added as caller unit B). The handset can answer the call by pressing the GREEN button. Upon pressing the GREEN button, you will be connected with the visitor however the unit is set to have a time limit on the call (60 seconds). When the time is almost over, a warning beep can be heard and you can extend the call time for another 60 seconds by pressing the GREEN button (There is no limit to the number of time extensions. The feature is to protect your privacy in case you forget to end the call by pressing the RED button.) The handset will automatically end the call by itself after 60 seconds to prevent conversations being heard at the caller unit. iv) TO RELEASE A GATE OR DOOR:
Once a call has been answered, you can use the center lock button to remotely open the electric door latch for the visitor (this function is only available if there is 8 - 12V AC/DC supply to the caller unit and the door is equipped with an electric latch). After pressing the lock button a door ajar icon will appear in 4-5 seconds on the LCD display confirming the door latch has been triggered. To inhibit this door release function, a DIP switch inside the handset must be set to the OFF position. (position 2 and 3). When set to OFF, pressing the lock button will have no effect, the door lock can only be opened when switch is set to ON. h) Under the circumstances of an unanswered call from a visitor (e.g. you are away from the handset or you are out-of-range from the caller unit), the ? arrow will appear on the screen alerting you somebody has called. Press the RED button to remove this icon. i) OUT OF RANGE INDICATOR:
Whenever the handset is located outside the communication range of the caller unit(s), an alarm will be heard and the antenna icon will appear on the screen. The out-of-range alert will appear only after a few minutes. Pressing the RED button will stop the audible alert but the antenna icon will remain. Once the handset comes back in to range, the alert tone will stop and the icon will disappear. NOTE: This out-of-range alert will also occur when the batteries of the caller unit run down or its primary power is cut-off or if the B caller unit DIP switch is switched ON and no second caller unit is installed. Under normal operation, the battery inside the caller unit (such as Duracell) can last for a month. Once the batteries run down, the battery icon appears on the screen and an alarm will be heard reminding you to replace it with a new battery in the respective caller unit. Pressing the RED button will stop the alarm but the icon will remain until new batteries are installed. The unit was designed to be powered from a constant 12 VDC power source. The battery option is used primarily as a convenience for programming only. j) The outdoor temperature indicator provides you with the current weather conditions. When the system is first installed, the LCD will show the default - - temperature. k) When the buttons on the handset are pressed, a tone will be heard. Di stands for a correct input, Do stands for an incorrect input. 4-1800 Appleby Line, Burlington, Ontario, Canada, L7L 6A1 Phone: (888) 887-0738, Fax: (905) 592-9691 Page 8 of 9 LT-022_R2 G. Operation with no call placed. a. PLACING A CALL:
By pressing and holding the CALL button for more than three seconds will initiate a call to the main caller unit. If you have more than one caller unit, one caller unit must be designated as the main during installation. b. RELEASE A GATE OR DOOR:
By pressing and holding the lock button for more than three seconds will provide 12 VDC power to the main caller unit door release output. PRECAUTION o Use only the supplied AC adapter. Using another adapter may cause damage to the handset unit. o Do not mix old and new alkaline batteries in the caller unit. o When not using the system for a long period of time, it is recommended to remove the batteries from handset and caller unit(s) to avoid battery leakage. o Do not leave the handset expose to any heat source, moisture and excessive dusty environments. o Do not open the case, no serviceable parts are inside. o When using it for the first time, switch off the handset and charge up the supplied battery pack for 4-5 hours using the charger stand.
