Safety and General Information Personal Statement according FCC part 15.19 FCC identifier has to be on the equipment This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and 2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Statement according FCC part 15.21 5 of 77 Engineering T503F Rev 1.04 2004-12-10 Modifications not expressly approved by Beaucom could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. Statement according FCC part 15.105 NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
-- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
-- Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
-- Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
-- Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. CAUTION! Read this information carefully before using your phone In August 1996 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States with its action in Report and Order FCC 96-326 adopted an updated safety standards for human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC regulated transmitters. Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standards previously set by both U.S. and international standards parties. The design of this phone complies with the FCC guidelines ad these international standards. Use only the supplied or an approved antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could impair call quality, damage the phone, or result in violation of FCC regulations. Do not use the phone with a damaged antenna. If a damaged antenna comes into contact with the skin, a minor burn may result. Please contact your local dealer for replacement antenna. Body-worn Operation This device was tested for typical body-worn operation with the back of the phone kept 1.5 centimeters from the body. To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements, a minimum separation distance of 1.5 centimeters must be maintained between the users body and the back of the phone, including the antenna, whether extended or retracted. All belt-clips, holsters and similar accessories used by this device must not contain any metallic components. Body-worn accessories that do not meet these requirements may not comply with FCC RF exposure limits and should be avoided. Note : For more information about FCC RF exposure, please visit the FCC website at www.fcc.gov Safety Information The internal wireless radio operates within guidelines found in radio frequency safety standards and recommendations, which reflect the consensus of the scientific community. Beaucom therefore believes the internal wireless radio is safe for use by consumers. The levelof energy emitted is far less than the electromagnetic energy emitted by wireless devices such as mobile phones. However, the use of wireless radios may be restricted in some situations or environments, such as aboard airplanes. If you are unsure of restrictions, you are encouraged to ask for authorization before turning on the wireless radio. Operation of any radio equipment including mobile phones may interfere with the function of inadequately shielded medical devices such as hearing aids and pacemakers. You must consult the manufacturer of these devices or your physician, before use. Do not switch on your mobile phone in hospitals unless in areas where it is clearly marked to do so. Mobile phones continue to transmit call responses even if left in stand-by mode. You must switch off when requested to do so. Do not move the antenna close to, or it to touch any exposed part of the body when making a call; a damaged antenna may cause a minor burn. Mobile phone Use Your mobile phone produces magnetic fields. Do not place next to magnetic storage media such as computer diskettes or credit cards. Operating your mobile phone close to other electrical equipment such as televisions, phones, radios and personal 6 of 77 Engineering T503F Rev 1.04 2004-12-10 computers, may cause interference. Once again, please turn your phone off when entering a Hospital; Medical Equipment can be affected. Do not expose your mobile phone to strong sunlight, direct heat or liquids (such as water). Do not expose your mobile to strong ESD (Electro Static Discharge) since the ESD could result incorrect characters or wrong image being displayed on your LCD screen. If this should happen, you may need to shutdown and restart your phone. Battery Use Do not short-circuit the battery terminals. This will damage the battery, produce heat and may cause a fire. Never dispose of batteries in a fire as it can cause them to explode. Return dead batteries to your supplier or an approved recycling centre. DO NOT dispose along with household waste. WARNING: If the battery case breaks, avoid contact with the contents. Wash contaminated skin with lots of water and seek medical attention. Discard the battery in a safe way and seek advice from your dealer. On the Road Before making or receiving calls, acquaint you thoroughly with the applicable local laws and guidelines regarding the use of mobile radiotelephones and observe them at all times. Only use an Ear-Microphone, which is also known as a personal hands free. Air safety bags, anti-lock brakes, speed control and fuel injection systems are normally immune to radio transmissions but if you experience problems, consult your vehicle dealer. Turn off your mobile phone when refuelling or where there are signs restricting the use of 2-way radio equipment. Do not store or carry flammable or explosive materials in the same compartment as your mobile phone, internal sparks could cause ignition. Inside Aircraft Switch off your mobile phone when in an aircraft. The use of mobile phones in an aircraft may be dangerous to the operation of the aircraft, disrupt the cellular network and is illegal. 7 of 77 Engineering T503F Rev 1.04 2004-12-10 Getting Started Read this section before attempting to use your phone. FDN (Fixed Dialling) allows you to limit the use of your phone (typically a friend or family member) to only the numbers stored in your FDN list in your phonebook. This is different to call barring, which blocks only certain types of call. BDN allows you to exclude calls from certain numbers. This is also known as a Black List. These two concepts are almost identical in structure and maintenance, so they are handled together in this section. Any additions, changes or deletions to the FDN list is regarded as a security sensitive function, so as such requires entry of your SIM PIN2. This is the code that controls fixed dialling on your T503F phone. For details on changing your PIN2, see the section on Security.

Pressing closes the Options menu, and pressing closes this screen and returns to the parent screen. Some notes on message size:
Most network operators charge for text messages on a "per segment" basis, where one segment is equivalent to approximately 160 characters. Typically, each segment is a chargeable text message. Please refer to your Network Operator for information regarding charging and cost of text messages. Each time a special format is selected (eg different font, colour etc - see [Format] below), this takes up an equivalent of 8 characters internally. i.e. each special format reduces the effective message length by 8 bytes. Each image or sound entered takes up an additional 6 characters of the message. The top line of the screen shows information about the size of your current message. Specifically, the line shows how many segments comprise the current message, and how much space is remaining in the current segment. eg "Seg.: 1, Free: 157"
indicates that your message is made up of a single segment, and you have space for an additional 157 characters.
"Send SMS to:" screen This screen allows for the selection or input of a telephone number to whom to send your message. The list of phone numbers is read from your phonebook according to your current settings (SIM or Phone etc). There are two ways in which to locate a phonebook entry:

. 2. If the name for the phonebook entry is known, start typing the name using the keypad as normal. The characters typed appear in the quick search text box, and the list automatically scrolls to the appropriate location in the list. Use key to clear and correct any wrongly entered characters. As you get close to the entry, you can also use the navigation keys to locate the actual entry.
