GENERAL DESCRIPTION The FRS (Family Radio Service) is the newest generation is personal two-way communication. FRS radio operates in a license-free band (no FCC License for operation) on 14 license-free channels. BONSOs WEATHER BS-500 model is a lightweight, and palm sized two-way radio that you can carry almost anywhere. Using at shopping malls, sporting events, parks, or any other activity place where communications are needed for convenience or safety. BS-500 radio provides about a two-miles range of communication allowing you to keep in touch with family, friends, or neighborhood watch group. The BS-500 has 14 channels and 38 CTCSS codes. You can talk to another person using any FRS radio, provided that you are on the same frequency. DESCRIPTION OF CONTROL AND INDICATOR 1. Power ON/OFF button Use to turn the unit ON or OFF. 2. CALL button Use to call other FRS users. 3. FUNC button Press this button to select functional features. 4. UP/DOWN button Use this button to select functions and to adjust digital volume. 5. PTT button Press and hold button to transmit. 6. SCAN button Use for automatic channel scanning 7. MON button Press this button to hear conversation from other FRS users OPERATING INSTRUCTION 1. Turning the unit ON and OFF To turn the unit ON, press and hold the power ON/OFF button for about 2 seconds. To turn the unit OFF, press and hold the power ON/OFF button for about 5 seconds. Sending call tones Press the CALL button once. The unit will send beep tones to the other unit. Transmitting a call Press the hold the PTT button. While holding the PTT button speak in a normal voice about 2 to 3 inches away from the microphone. Receiving a call The unit is continuously in RECEIVE mode when the unit is ON. Adjusting speaker volume level Press the UP/DOWN button to desired volume level. The unit has 8-stage digital volume levels. Changing Channels Press the FUNCTION button shortly. While the channel display is blinking, press the UP/DOWN button. To select the desired channel, press the FUNCTION button. CTCSS Code Set Up Press FUNCTION button two times. While the CTCSS icon is blinking press UP/DOWN button to select CTSS code. 8. Monitoring Press and hold MON button to listen to other FRS users. 9. Weather Function Press FUNCTION button for 5 seconds. While the w icon is blinking, press the FUNCTION button again and you can. see the weather channel. Press U/DOWN button to select weather channel. 10. Low Battery Indication The unit has 3-stage low battery indication function. In the last stage, the last icon will blink.
