WASPTM Wireless Acceleration Sensor Puck Operations Manual 1. Introduction 1.1. WASP2 Sensor Inroduction This Operations Manual provides basic information on how to operate the WASPWireless Acceleration Sensor Puck (WASP2) This manual covers the following topics:

Installation of WASP Assembling of WASP Placement of WASP Optional Thermal Calibration of WASP Troubleshooting 2. Installation 2.1. Included In The Package Each sensor puck is shipped complete with the WASP2 Vibration and Temperature Sensor Assembly, a WASP2 Battery Cap Assembly, a Gasket, and mounting screws to secure the top cap. The BossPac WASP and WASP2 sensor pucks use an attached magnet base for mounting to equipment. Optional mounting methods are available, (stud mount, pipe clamp, epoxy). 2.2. Assembling Of Wireless Sensor Pucks 2.1.1 Battery Installation Each sensor puck is shipped with a WASP2 Battery Cap Assembly containing a battery circuit board. WASPTM Wireless Acceleration Sensor Puck Operations Manual To turn on and activate each sensor puck you must carefully attach the battery cap assembly to the sensor unit. Place gasket (see section 2.1.2) and plug the connector on the battery assembly into the corresponding socket on the sensor puck housing. Figure 1. It is important the battery board is properly mated to the WASP Sensor connector. An incorrectly mated connection may result in intermittent/inconsistent power, or complete loss of power to the Sensor. A loose connection may also cause damage to the connector pins as well. Once the connection is made the WASP device performs a power-on self test (POST). The sensor is now detectable by any BossPac NEST receiver within the working radius. Figure 1: Install WASPTM Battery Board 2.1.2 Gasket and Cap Installation Each sensor comes with a gasket. Place gasket onto battery cap or housing prior to connecting battery. The gasket is required to maintain an IP54 rating between the housing and the top cap battery assembly. There is no specific orientation required for the top cap, however it is important the power connector wire maintains a reasonable bend radius and is not pinched during assembly. A simple turn of the cap may be all is needed to ensure the wire lays securely in the housing. The top cap is secured/retained by four 8-32 stainless steel screws. WASPTM Wireless Acceleration Sensor Puck Operations Manual 2.1.3 WASP LED Error Indicator Should the POST (Power On Self Test) fail, the device locks up and flashes the LED in a discernible pattern to help diagnose the source of the problem. See the section at the end of this manual on troubleshooting for details on the LED flash codes. 2.3. Placement Of The WASP Pucks 2.3.1 WASP Mounting The sensor pucks can be attached securely to the desired equipment by the magnet base. Optional methods such as stud mount, clamp, or epoxy may be used. The supplied magnets have an effective operating range of -40C to 185C (-40F to 365F) WARNING THE RARE EARTH MAGNET BASE HAS IN EXCESS OF 50 LBS OF FORCE AND CAN CAUSE HARM IF CARE IS NOT TAKEN 2.3.2 WASP Sensor Placement To ensure effective wireless transmission between sensor pucks and receiver it is recommended there is a direct line of sight between the units, (WASP to NEST). 2.3.3 Mounting Surface Preparation It is recommended the surface be prepared for the installation of the WASP sensors. It is recommended the sensors are placed on a flat surface, (min. area of 1.50 diameter). Ensure the surface is clear of debris and excess paint. Check the magnetic base is screwed securely to the stud on the bottom of the WASP. Check the top cap screws are tightened to a maximum of 15 ft. lb or 1.7 N m In less than ideal conditions a small amount of SILICON HEAT TRANSFER COMPOUND may be used to facilitate a more efficient heat transfer from the mounting surface into the sensor. It is necessary to only cover the stud part of the sensor. This requires only a small amount of compound, approximately diameter, (or 5 mm dia.), at the center of the magnet base. Carefully set the sensor in place. Avoid snapping with the magnet base as it can damage the magnet. 2.4. Optional Thermal Calibration Of WASPs To ensure the greatest accuracy of the monitored variables it is optional to do thermal calibration of each WASP unit. The process of thermal calibration is as follows:

Ensure the machinery for which the WASP is to be attached is at operating temperature. Place the WASP units at their desired mounting points using thermal paste. Allow 15 minutes for the temperature to stabilize. Using a thermometer gun, record the temperature value on the valve cap at the mounting point of the WASP unit. At the receiver, adjust the display temperature to match the value of the thermometer gun using the temperature offset function. (See the section on temperature calibration in the Setting Temperature Warning and Critical Alarm Thresholds section of the WASP NEST User Manual).

Accelerator Failure (1-Flash) This is indicative of an electrical failure: either the accelerometer isnt receiving power or the device has lost electrical connectivity between the MCU and the accelerometer. In either event, the device is inoperative. Recommend replacing the WASP unit. Battery Failure (2-Flash) Recommend removing and reconnecting the battery as sometimes the power connectors do not mate evenly. If the problem persists, replace the battery board. Temperature Sensor Failure (3-Flash) If the device is not powering up in extreme temperatures, this may be indicative of an electrical fault with the RTD. Recommend replacing the WASP unit. Radio Failure (4-Flash) Much like an accelerometer failure, this is indicative of an electrical failure. The problem is much more severe in this instance as the device cannot communicate. Installation 22..11 IInncclluuddeedd IInn TThhee PPaacckkaaggee The BossPac WASP NEST Receiver is shipped with an attachable antenna and required cables. The BossPac WASP sensors, (configurable), are typically shipped alongside. 22..22 IInnssttaallllaattiioonn 2.2.1 Nest Receiver Installation The equipment should be installed by a professional or certified technician conversant with the certification requirements of the installation site. 22..33 WWiirriinngg NNEESSTT RReecceeiivveerr 2.3.1 Nest Receiver Mounting The BossPac NEST receiver may be installed into existing panels or an enclosure mounted within 300 meters (1000) of the WASPs. Ideal location would have direct line of sight to the sensors. There are four mounting locations (threaded holes) and an environmental gasket on the flange of the receiver. A cutout mounting template is also included with the receiver. 2.3.2 Attaching the Antenna A mobile antenna is provided by BossPac, included and shipped with the NEST Receiver. BossPac recommends any replacement or additional antenna be compliant. BossPac currently uses the following models:

- MRO Model: M2425, 2.4 GHz band, +3 dBi Gain

- Larsen Model: RO2408NF, 2.4 GHz Omnidirectional, +8 dBi Gain

- Nearson Model SG1013NF-2450, 2.4 GHz, + 3 dBi Gain

- Nearson Model SG102N-2450, 2.4 GHz, +6 dBi Gain The technician must ensure proper mounting of antenna to meet certification requirements of installation site.

WASP NEST2 Smart Receiver and Gateway Operations Manual To attach the antenna, carefully screw the antenna cable to the SMA connection at the base of the BossPac NEST Receiver Gateway. See photo below. Attach antenna to opposite end of cable, (N type connector). Figure 1: Attach Antenna to NEST WARNING EXPLOSION HAZARD. WASP NEST2 Smart Receiver and Gateway Operations Manual 2.3.4 Circuit Board Terminal Block The NEST circuit board has an 8 pin terminal block. A diagram of the terminal block is shown to the right. INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 have not been enabled on the WASP system. OUTPUT 1 and OUTPUT 2 are assigned for critical error and warning signals respectively. RS485-1B and RS485-1A are assigned for MODBUS connections.

+5V-24V and GND are the power connections. The NEST Receiver must be powered with a Class 2 power supply providing an input voltage between 5VDC to 30VDC Figure 3: NEST Terminal Block

The name of the current screen is displayed at the top center. The current time and date are displayed at the bottom right. Current critical error count and warning count are displayed in the bottom left of the interface. These information sections, top bar and bottom bar of touch screen, are not interactive and are only intended to provide current system statistics to the viewer. WASP NEST2 Smart Receiver and Gateway Operations Manual 33..11 SSyysstteemm SSttaattuuss SSccrreeeennss When activating the BossPac WASP system for the first time the BossPac NEST receiver will automatically detect all sensor pucks within the working radius (assuming battery modules are attached to the sensors). The default screen, when turning on the BossPac NEST receiver or waking the screen from sleep mode, is the SYSTEM STATUS screen. The SYSTEM STATUS screen displays the number of sensors attached to the system as well as any current critical or warning alarm. The screen will also cycle through the critical screen and warning screen when the top half of the screen is tapped. The max values displayed are the current max values of the entire sensor array. Tapping on the SENSOR STATUS square will take you to the sensor status grid screen. Further tapping on a sensor square, EXHA 01 for example, will take you to a status screen for that individual sensor. Tapping on NEXT will cycle through available status grid pages, (all other sensors). Each individual sensor status screen will display the name of the sensor along with the current status. Tapping on the bottom half of the screen will cycle the screen through more status data and settings of the sensor. Tapping on the top half of the screen will cycle the screen through the available sensors. (For example: Tap on right side of the top section cycles to next listed sensor EXHA 02. Tap on left side of the top section cycles to previous listed sensor INTK 10). To configure a sensor, or modify the settings, tap on the SETUP section. Instructions on configuring individual sensors are covered under Section 3.2.9 Note: if no limits have been set, zeros will be displayed beside the parameter.

Tapping MAIN MENU will bring up a list of options. Tap the UP/DOWN arrows to scroll through the available options. Choose SELECT to access the desired high-lighted option. Tap SYSTEM STATUS to return to the default startup screen. 33..22..11 SSyysstteemm IInnffoo Choosing the SYSTEM INFO screen will display 3 options: VERSION, UPTIME, and RADIO. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight the desired system information option and tap SELECT. 3.2.1.1 Version Selecting VERSION displays the current NEST firmware version. The screen also displays the firmware compile date/time as well as the revision number. IGNORE places the sensor on the ignored list - it can be bound at a later time. REMOVE- removes the sensor entirely from the system (until the next packet of information is received) allowing another sensor to take its place. There is a functional limit to the number of sensors that can be bound to the system.
