- Ethernet Cable 2. System Requirements 3. WAP-5903 Overview Computer or network devices with wired or wireless network interface card. Web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 or above, Google Chrome web Any connected devices must feature a network port. browser, Opera web browser, or Safari web browser). The WAP-5903 Wireless Mesh Extender provides a simple way to extend your wireless signal to areas with weak or nonexistent coverage, and to build-up a WiFi mesh network in your home/office. 4. The device is under reset to default process 7 Scenario A - Setup with Comtrends WiFi router Comtrend Router (ex. VR-3060) + Extender device(s) 1. Ethernet Pairing Step 1. Power on the extender(s), and use Ethernet cables to connect the UPLINK port of each extender to the Ethernet (LAN) port on the Comtrend VR-3060. Then the Ethernet Pairing will automatically start processing. The WAP-5903 devices will commence booting up (LED Green blinking). Step 2. Wait until all the LEDs on the extenders are solid Green ON. This means these extenders have paired successfully and are now in the same WiFi mesh group with the VR-3060. 2. Deploy the Extenders After System Grouping, move the extenders to where you would like to place them for extending the WiFi signal. Connect the extenders to power sockets, and wait until they are solid Blue ON, which means they are grouped again, and the WiFi mesh system is now ready. 8 Refer to the LED color on the extender which indicates the uplink WiFi signal strength. When the LED is solid Blue ON, this extender is placed in an appropriate location and is receiving a GOOD WiFi signal. When the LED is solid Red ON, the extender is placed too far away from its uplink device, so its receiving too WEAK a WiFi signal. 3. Setup your WiFi network The WiFi mesh network is automatically using the original WiFi configuration on the VR-3060. If you would like to change the network name or Password, please use your computers wireless configuration utility to search for the original VR-3060 WiFi name such as: VR-3060xx03. When the following window pops up, input the Security Key for the VR-3060 (see device label for details). 9 Open your web browser, and input http://192.168.1.1/ in the address bar. The system will prompt you to input the username and password. Use your login username and password for the VR-3060. (Default username is root and password is 12345 ) Input your favorite WiFi network name in the SSID field, then click the Apply/Save button. 10 Select the SSID from the drop-down menu. Then select the Network Authentication
(encryption method). Click the Apply/Save button to complete setup. If you need to change the password here you can input the new password in the WPA/WAPI passphrase field. When the home broadband router changes the WiFi SSID or Password, all other WAP-5903 units will copy and apply accordingly. Enjoy your WiFi mesh network!
11 Scenario B Working with non-Comtrend WiFi Router 1. Setup the Mesh Controller Power on an extender, then use an Ethernet cable to connect the UPLINK port of the extender to the Ethernet (LAN) port on the existing home broadband router. Wait for 3 minutes for this WAP-5903 extender to become the Mesh Controller. The LED will show solid Green. Controller 2. Setup your WiFi Network Wireless Network You can now use your computers wireless configuration utility to search for a Wireless Network name such as: Extender2368 or Extender2368-5G. (The default SSID of this extender device is Extender2368, and 2368 is for reference. It is the last 4 digits of the devices MAC number.) 12 When you are prompted to input the security key, the WiFi Key (password) can be found on the label at the back of the WAP-5903 device. Click the OK button to connect to the network. 13 Next, open your web browser, and input http://extender.setup/ in the address bar. The system will prompt you to input the username and password. Default username is root and password is 12345. Click the OK button to continue. After logging into the Web page, input the new SSID for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz fields. The user can setup a new password by inputting it in both the Key fields. Click the Apply/Save button to complete setup. After applying the wireless setting the WAP-5903 will reboot, and when the LED on this extender is solid Green ON, this WiFi Mesh Controller is ready. 14 You can now connect additional extenders (Mesh Agents) to the home broadband router Ethernet (LAN) ports. Both WAP-5903 devices will blink green and blue during the paring process (3 minutes approx). Wait until all the LEDs on the extenders are all solid Green ON. This means that all the WAP-5903 extenders are paired and grouped in the same WiFi mesh network. 3. Deploy the Extenders After System Grouping, keep the WAP-5903 Mesh Controller connected to the existing home broadband router via Ethernet cable. Then move the other extenders (Mesh Agents) to where you would like to place them for extending the WiFi signal. Connect the extenders to power sockets, and wait until LEDs are solid Blue ON, which means they are grouped again, and the WiFi mesh system is now ready. Agent Agent Controller Refer to the LED color on the extender which indicates the uplink WiFi signal strength. When the LED is solid Blue ON, this extender is placed at an appropriate position and Eth 15 is receiving a GOOD WiFi signal. When the LED is solid Red ON, the extender is placed too far away from its uplink device, so its receiving a WiFi signal that is too WEAK. Now, enjoy your WiFi mesh Network!
16 Chapter 2: Web User Interface 2.1 Default Settings The factory default settings of this device are summarized below. LAN IP address: 192.168.2.252 LAN subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Administrative access (username: root , password: 12345) WLAN access: enabled Technical Note During power on, the device initializes all settings to default values. It will then read the configuration profile from the permanent storage section of flash memory. The default attributes are overwritten when identical attributes with different values are configured. The configuration profile in permanent storage can be created via the web user interface or telnet user interface, or other management protocols. The factory default configuration can be restored either by pushing the reset button for more than five seconds until the power indicates LED blinking or by clicking the Restore Default Configuration option in the Restore Settings screen. 17 2.2 IP Configuration DHCP MODE When the WAP-5903 powers up, the onboard DHCP server will switch on. Basically, the DHCP server issues and reserves IP addresses for LAN devices, such as your PC. To obtain an IP address from the DCHP server, follow the steps provided below. NOTE: The following procedure assumes you are running Windows. However, the general steps involved are similar for most operating systems (OS). Check your OS support documentation for further details. STEP 1: From the Network Connections window, open Local Area Connection (You may also access this screen by double-clicking the Local Area Connection icon on your taskbar). Click the Properties button. STEP 2: Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. STEP 3: Select Obtain an IP address automatically as shown below. STEP 4: Click OK to submit these settings. If you experience difficulty with DHCP mode, you can try static IP mode instead. 18 STATIC IP MODE In static IP mode, you assign IP settings to your PC manually. Follow these steps to configure your PC IP address to use subnet 192.168.2.x. NOTE: The following procedure assumes you are running Windows. However, the general steps involved are similar for most operating systems (OS). Check your OS support documentation for further details. STEP 1: From the Network Connections window, open Local Area Connection (You may also access this screen by double-clicking the Local Area Connection icon on your taskbar). Click the Properties button. STEP 2: Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. STEP 3: Change the IP address to the 192.168.2.x (1<x<252) subnet with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The screen should now display as shown below. STEP 4: Click OK to submit these settings. 19 2.3 Login Procedure Perform the following steps to login to the web user interface. NOTE: The default settings can be found in 2.1 Default Settings. STEP 1: Start the Internet browser and enter the default IP address for the device in the Web address field. For example, if the default IP address is 192.168.2.252, type http://192.168.2.252. STEP 2: A dialog box will appear, such as the one below. Enter the default username and password, as defined in section 2.1 Default Settings. Click OK to continue. NOTE: If you cant see the web management interface, and youre being prompted to input user name and password again, it means you didnt input username and password correctly. Please retype user name and password again. If youre certain about the user name and password you type are correct, please go to section 3.7 to perform a factory reset or to set the password back to the default value. The login password can be changed later (see section3.8). 20 STEP 3: After successfully logging in for the first time, you will reach this screen. 21 Chapter 3 Management 3.1 Status This page shows the current status and some basic settings of the device. 22 3.2 Statistics This page shows the packet counters for transmission and reception regarding to wireless and Ethernet networks. 23 3.3 Time Zone Setting You can maintain the system time by synchronizing with a public time server over the Internet. Consult the table below for descriptions. Here you may change the setting for the ACS's parameters. Consult the table below for descriptions. Option Description Enable TR-069 Select the Disabled or Enabled radio button to disable or enable TR-069 ACS URL ACS User Name ACS Password URL for the CPE to connect to the ACS using the CPE WAN Management Protocol. This parameter MUST be in the form of a valid HTTP or HTTPS URL. An HTTPS URL indicates that the ACS supports SSL. The host portion of this URL is used by the CPE for validating the certificate from the ACS when using certificate-based authentication. Username used to authenticate the CPE when making a connection to the ACS using the CPE WAN Management Protocol. This username is used only for HTTP-based authentication of the CPE. Password used to authenticate the CPE when making a connection to the ACS using the CPE WAN Management Protocol. This password is used only for HTTP-based authentication of the CPE. 25 Option Description Periodic Inform Enable Select the Disabled or Enabled radio button to disable or enable Periodic Inform. Whether enabled or not the CPE MUST periodically send CPE information to the ACS using the Inform method call. Periodic Inform Interval The duration in seconds of the interval for which the CPE attempts to connect with the ACE if periodic inform is enabled Connection Request User Name Password Path Port STUN Connection STUN Server URL Server Port Username Password Username used to authenticate an ACS making a Connection Request to the CPE Password used to authenticate an ACS making a Connection Request to the CPE The Path of the TR069 connection request URL The Port of the TR-069 connection request URL Select the Disabled or Enabled radio button to disable or enable STUN The URL for STUN server The Port for STUN server The Username for STUN server The Password for STUN server MaxKeepAlivePeriod The maximum value in seconds to check the server MinKeepAlivePeriod The minimum value in seconds to check the server connection connection 26 3.5 WiFiXTEND Config WifiXtend is a Whole-Home WiFi Mesh system that creaters an ultimate WiFi Mesh network quickly and easily . Service providers can use WifiXtend to deploy theirdevices into the WiFi Mesh system. Select the required radio button to enable or disable. Then, click the Save & Apply button to save and apply your changes. 27 3.6 Upgrade Firmware This page allows you upgrade the Access Point firmware to new version. Please note, do not power off the device during the upload because it may crash the system. STEP 1: Click the Browse button to select the required file. STEP 2: Then, click the Upload button to upgrade the new firmware. NOTE1: The update process will take a few minutes to complete. The device will reboot and the browser window will refresh to the default screen upon successful installation. It is recommended that you compare the Software Version on the Status screen with the firmware version installed, to confirm the installation was successful. NOTE2: The Power LED indicates the status of firmware update progress. Please DO NOT power off the device when Power LED is flashing or the device will be damaged. 28 3.7 Save/Reload Setting This page allows you save current settings to a file or reload the settings from the file which was saved previously. Besides, you could reset the current configuration to factory default. Save Settings to File: Click the Save button to save your settings to a file on your computer. Load Settings from File: Click the Browse button to select the required file. Then, click the Upload button to upgrade the new firmware. Reset Settings to Default: Click the Reset button to display the following. Click the OK button to proceed. Then you will need to wait for one minute for the device to reboot. 29 3.8 Password This page is used to set the account to access the web server of Access Point. Empty user name and password will disable the protection. STEP 1: Input the User Name. STEP 2: Input the New Password. STEP 3: Confirm the New Password by inputting it again. STEP 4: Click the Save and Apply button to save and apply your change.
