Digital Sun S.Sense User Guide Draft 1.1 Copyright 2003 Digital Sun Confidential and Proprietary Introduction S.Sense water-saving wireless sensors work with your existing sprinkler controller to help maintain the moisture level in the soil without over-watering. This saves you water and time. System Overview The S.Sense system consists a Receiver Unit that connects to your existing controller and one or more Sensor Probe Units. The Sensor Probe Unit continuously monitors soil moisture and communicates wirelessly with the Receiver Unit. The Receiver Unit adjusts the signals from your existing sprinkler controller based on the information received from the Sensor Probe Unit. Connections The S.Sense receiver has three external connections provided for the user. They are described below:
1. Common Line Connection: The two wires available from the receiver are for connecting the unit to the common line of the sprinkler controller. This enables the Receiver to control how much time the sprinklers are turned on. 2. DC Power Jack: This jack allows you to power the unit from an AC power source with the included power supply instead of AA batteries. 3. Serial Port: This port is an expansion port that enables connection to a personal computer through an RS-232 serial connection for software updates. It is not used during normal operation. Operation The Sensor Probe Unit installs into the soil being irrigated by your sprinkler system and the Receiver Unit connects to the existing sprinkler system controller. Setup is consists of verifying the wireless connection, setting the desired moisture level that should be maintained and setting the soil type. Installation Steps 1.
