(county spect) User Manual Screwdriver How to set up Walter Learn how to set up and use Walter by watching the Walter Tutorial video at www.ETLlearing.com/WalterVideo SD Card Use the screwdriver provided to gently open the compartment on the underside of the base unit. Do not apply too much pressure to the screw as this may damage it. Remove the SD card from the plastic case and insert into the memory card slot. A Me Power Supply The type of plug provided for the power supply depends on your country of purchase. We recommend that Walter is used with electrical power supply instead of the batteries. This will ensure that Walter can be kept in one place in your house, to avoid accidents moving it around, and that ithas a steady power supply for continuous use. Remember to unplug the power supply when Walter is not in use. The Walter base unit battery compartment is located at the base and takes four AA batteries. This will provide around 3 hours of use. The Walter pen battery compartment is located on the side of the pen and takes one AAA battery. This will provide approximately 4 hours of use. When the battery power is low, the light will flash red, and the unit will switch off in about 5 minutes. It is therefore recommended that the batteries are changed, or an alternate source of power is used, as soon as the light begins to flash, Inserting batteries:
Use the screwdriver provided to open the battery compartment. Make sure that the plastic strap is underneath the batteries before you start inserting them. This will make it easier to remove the batteries later. Insert batteries, ensuring correct polarity (indicated at the bottom of the compartment). Replace the lid of the battery compartment and secure with the screwdriver. Features and Functions of Walter Turning on:
Press the power switch (I) on the Walter base unit and hold for several seconds. A welcome message will be played and the light will remain blue when Walter is ready to be used. Press the power switch on the pen and hold for several seconds until the light turns blue. The Walter base unit and pen are connected using radio frequency. The pen can be used up to a distance of 10m from the base unit. Turning off:
The base unit and the pen need to be turned off separately. Press the power button (I) and hold for several seconds. A farewell message is played and then the light will turn off. SD card and Batteries

In order to conserve battery power, the base unit and pen will automatically turn off after being inactive for 10 minutes. This will not happen if electrical power supply is being used. Playing the sounds from the book:
Before using Walter with a book, activate it by scanning the icon on the title page, and a welcome message will be played. Activation is required each time a new book is selected. Once activated, use the Walter pen to scan the sound icons on the pages of the books. Repeat sound from the book:
Press the repeat button C@) to play the last sound from the book again. Volume control:
On the base unit, increase WM))) or decrease WM) the speaker volume as required On the pen, press the volume button @ until the required volume is reached (indicated by beeps). Press the volume button and it will decrease until it reaches the lowest level, and then it will incrementally increase until the maximum volume is reached The base unit and pen have 5 volume levels and the default is set to medium (level 3). To record own voice:
Press the record button gec (do not hold down the button) and speak into the speaker (there is an internal microphone). The light will turn red during recording. Press the button again to stop recording. There is a maximum recording time of one minute and every new recording deletes the previous one. Play recorded sound:

Walter can be used as an extemal speaker for a computer or a CD player. Connect the provided audio cable to the audio-in port of the base unit. Audio-out:
Walter can be connected with standard headphones. The headphones. should be connected to the audio-out port on the Walter base unit. The headphones are not provided. Walter Sounds Card This card provides a selection of sounds from the books. Start by scanning the activation icon on top every time you use the card. A bonus Walter song is played when the activation icon is scanned. Warranty There is a limited warranty valid for one year from date of purchase which covers mechanical faults only. If Walter is damaged as a result of any of these circumstances, the warranty will not be valid Do not use Walter in excessively humid conditions or subject it to rapid changes in temperature as the accumulation of condensation in the electrical circuitry may cause it to fail When changing batteries, use caution discarding the old batteries. Do not burn them as they may explode. Remove the batteries if you do not plan to use Walter for an extended period of time. Troubleshooting Walter does not turn on:
Check that the SD card is inserted. If you are using the power supply provided, check that it is properly connected and plugged into the power outlet. If you are using batteries, check that the batteries are newhhave sufficient charge and are placed in the correct polarity Check that the battery compartment is properly closed. Walter turns on but there is no sound when an icon is scanned:
Check that the volume is tumed up. Check that Walter has been activated for that book by scanning the icon on the title page. This has to be repeated every time a new book is selected Ensure that the book is placed flat on the table or floor, and that the pen is slowly scanned across the icon, and not pressed onto the page. If there is still no sound, re-synchronize the pen with the base unit:
On the base unit, press > and hold for 10 seconds.
* When the blue light on the base unit is flashing, scan this icon &
with the pen. The lights on the base unit and pen will both flash blue to show that synchronization is in process Once complete, the lights will stop flashing and will remain blue. If the lights flash purple, synchronization has failed, and the process needs to be repeated.
+o test if synchronization was successful, press the volume button on the pen and the base unit should beep. Walter is still not working:
If you have followed the above steps and your Walter is still not working, use a paperclip to press the reset button on the base of Walter Wey Ifyou have followed all of these steps and your Walter still does not operate satisfactorily, please contact your distributor. 10 Terms & Conditions of Warranty The warranty certifies that this product is delivered to you free from any defects in materials or workmanship.
