RemoteRemote Users Manual INTRODUCTION The RemoteRemote receiver and keyfob is a simple 5-button radio-frequency (RF) wireless remote control for the Apple iPOD. CONTENTS 1 1 1 1 This Users Guide 5-button keyfob RemoteRemote receiver with cable 3-volt Li-on battery (CR2032) REQUIREMENTS Apple iPOD, third generation (10-, 15-, and 30-GB models) with dock connector Headphones, powered speakers, or stereo receiver Please follow these simple steps to get your RemoteRemote up and running. INSERTING THE BATTERY Step 1: Remove the keyfob from its plastic shipping bag. Step 2: Carefully separate the top and bottom halves of the keyfob. (For best results, use a thin piece of rigid plastic, or use a small flat-blade screwdriver, being careful not to damage the keyfob. With the two halves separated, Take note of the positioning of the green board, so that you may reinsert it properly later.) Step 2: Remove the battery from its plastic bag, noting the + symbol on one side of the battery. Step 3: Place the green PC board on a flat surface, with the metal bracket (battery holder) facing up. (Do not handle the green board any more than necessary and treat it carefully. Avoid handling it in areas of high static electricity.) Insert the battery into the metal battery bracket, with the + symbol also facing up (towards the metal battery bracket). If you are unsure, please see www.engineeredaudio.com/faq.html for further guidance. Step 4: Once the battery is inserted, replace the green board within the fob. Make sure the notches in the sides of the green board line up with the guides in the fob. Step 5: Snap the two keyfob halves back together. (Its a tight fit, so take your time.) CONNECTING THE RECEIVER TO THE iPOD Step 1: If the headphones are attached to your iPOD, remove them. Step 2: Remove the RemoteRemote receiver (with cable, labeled RemoteRemote) from its plastic shipping bag. Step 3: Insert the connector plug of the receiver into the headphones jack of the iPOD, making sure it is firmly seated. Step 4: Plug headphones into the stereo jack at the end of the receiver. Note that the receiver draws its power from the iPOD, even when the iPOD is off. If the iPOD is not to be used for a while, or is not being charged, unplug the receiver to prevent the draining the iPOD battery. SYNCHRONIZING THE KEYFOB AND RECEIVER The receiver and keyfob must be synchronized prior to use. This ensures that your iPOD is controlled by only your fob, and not by the fobs of other users nearby. Once you have completed the set-up steps above, you can begin the synchronization (also called learning) process. Note that some of these steps need to be done in a time-critical fashion, so you may want to read through the instructions first before attempting the procedure. You may also have to repeat these procedures more than once, as the receiver periodically sleeps and may not hear the synchronization command. Note: A receiver can be synchronized with 5 separate fobs. If you synchronize 6 or more fobs, the receiver will only work with (or remember) the last five fobs synchronized. Should you lose a fob and replace it, simply follow the synchronization procedure with the new fob. Step 1: Press and hold (simultaneously) both the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons for 5 seconds, then release. Step 2: Within an additional 5 seconds, press and release the Play button. Your receiver has now learned your new RemoteRemote. If the receiver and iPOD fail to operate properly at this point, repeat the sync procedure. REV: 11/11/03 ERASING SYNCHRONIZATION WARNING: Erasing should only be done when absolutely necessary. Once the erase command has been sent, as outlined below, none of the fob(s) previously synchronized will control your iPOD. Be aware that, if you have multiple fobs synchronized with the receiver, the Erase command disables ALL keyfobs, not just the fob from which it is sent. Step 1: Press and hold (simultaneously) the Volume up, Volume Down, Fast Forward, and Rewind buttons for 5 seconds, then release. Step 2: Press and hold the Play button 5 seconds, then release. Again, as above, if the procedure does not work the first time, repeat it. If you disable a fob and wish to re-enable it, simply follow the Synchronizing the Keyfob and Receiver steps listed above. BASIC OPERATIONS Play/Pause: press and release to toggle between play and pause. Hold down for 5 seconds to turn the iPOD off. Next Track/Fast Forward: press and release to skip to the next track. Hold down for fast forward within a track. Previous Track/Rewind: press and release to skip to the previous track. Hold down for rewind within a track. Volume Up/Volume Down: press and hold until the desired volume is reached. Locking the keypad: To prevent the keyfob from transmitting, for example, when it is in your pocket, you can lock the keypad. Once the keypad is locked, it will not control your iPOD until you unlock it. Step 1: Press and hold (simultaneously) the Volume up and Volume Down buttons for 5 seconds, then release. Step 2: Press and release the Play button. Unlocking the keypad: To unlock the keypad, simultaneously press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down keys for 5 seconds. TROUBLESHOOTING If there is no iPOD activity using the RemoteRemote you should try these troubleshooting tips:
Is the iPOD battery charged and the iPOD otherwise operational?
Is the keyfob battery installed correctly?
1.) 2.) 3.) Does the keyfob battery need to be replaced?
4.) Has the receiver learned the keyfob? If not, go through the Synchronizing the Keyfob and Receiver process. 5.) Has the keypad on the fob been locked? If so, unlock it as noted above. 6.) 7.) 8.) Is the receiver cable firmly and correctly seated to the iPOD?
Is the audio cable from the receiver (to the headphones or other speakers) firmly and correctly seated?
