(either side can be used). The battery charging indicator on the base illuminates. The headset battery is not charged when delivered. Place the headset in the base for 3 hours before making the following adjustments. It takes 3 hours to fully charge the battery. When fully charged, the battery charging indicator flashes. A fully charged GN9020-D provides 7 hours of talktime. A fully charge GN9010-BT provides 2 hours of talktime. Checking the System Adjusting to your Telephone 5 6 7 8 9 If your telephone has volume control, set the volume in the middle position. Press the headset/handset selector to switch on the headset. The headset mode indicator on the base station illuminates. The headset mode indicator on the headset begins flashing within 10 seconds. If the headset mode indicator does not flash, recheck assembly. The system is now working. If the lights are still off, the headset/handset selector is in handset position. Press the headset/handset selector once. 10 Put on the headset. 11 Make sure the mute function is off. If you hear a beep every 3 seconds, the mute function is on. Turn off the mute function by pressing the mute button once. Lift the handset from your telephone and listen for a dial tone in your headset. If there is no dial tone, adjust the tele-

phone compatibility setting until the dial tone is clear. If dial tone is clear for both A and G, set to A. 12 13

Adjusting the Microphone Volume 14 Put on the headset. 15 Press the headset/handset selector to switch to handset mode. 16 Call someone using your handset and ask the person to help you evaluate the volume of your voice. 17 Using the headset/handset selector to toggle back and forth between handset and headset mode, adjust the microphone volume control from 1 to 8 by first talking in the handset and then in the headset in each switch position. Position 1 is the lowest volume setting and position 8 is the highest volume setting. 18 When the person hears no difference whether you talk in the handset or headset, you have the correct setting. If the setting is 7 or 8, it may be necessary to move the telephone compatibility setting to G. Some phone handsets may always be louder than the headset.

22 You can now move freely away from the base station. Answer or place the call. Adjusting the Receive Volume Recharging the Battery 24 To increase or decrease the volume, press the upper (+) or lower (-) part of the oval volume control on the headset. When the volume reaches maximum or minimum, you will hear a beep in your headset. Muting the Microphone 25 To talk without the other party hearing you, press the mute button on the headset. When the microphone is muted, you will hear a beep every 3 seconds. When the mute function is on, you can still hear the other party. 26 To ensure optimum battery life, when not in use, place the headset in the base station with the headset/handset selector in the handset position. The battery charging indicator illuminates during recharging. It takes 3 hours to fully charge the battery. When fully charged, the indicator flashes. If battery power gets too low, you will hear a beep in your headset every 20 seconds. Comfort Adjustments 28 You can wear the headset on your right or left ear, whichever side you prefer. To switch sides, simply rotate the microphone boom below the headband. NOTE:

mately 1/2 (12 mm) from your mouth. 30 To change or clean the leatherette ear cushion, first remove the earplate by turning the earplate 45 degrees counter-clockwise. Once removed, the ear cushion can be taken off the earplate. To use the optional foam ear cushion, first remove the earplate and leatherette cushion. Then place the foam cushion on the earplate. 31 Gently remove the microphone foam cover to clean or change. Frequently Asked Questions Why cant I hear a dial tone?

Check that all cords are connected correctly. Be sure the AC power adapter is plugged in and power is turned on. Be sure the headset/handset selector is in headset position and the headset mode indicators are illuminated. Be sure the battery is fully charged. Be sure the serial numbers on the base station and headset match. The numbers must match for operation. Adjust the telephone compatibility setting. Why doesnt the other person hear me?

Be sure the mute function is off. Re-adjust the microphone volume. Check the position of the microphone making sure that it is placed at the corner of your mouth. You may be out of range. Move closer to the base station. Why do I hear a beep in my headset?

A beep every 20 seconds means the battery is getting low and needs to be charged. For proper charge, be sure the battery charging indicator is illuminated when the headset is placed in the base station. The battery may need up to three charge and discharge cycles to reach full capacity. A beep every 10 seconds means that you are out of range. Move closer to the base station. A beep every 3 seconds means that the mute function is on. Turn the mute function off. The base station may be too close to your telephone. Move the base station further away. Cautionary Notes to Computer Users When using any headset with a computer, care should be taken in dry or low humidity environments to protect the user from electrostatic discharge from the monitor (CRT). Computer monitors can induce a substantial electrostatic charge when turned on or off, or when there is a power failure, and the resulting electrostatic discharge can be passed through the headset to ground. A user in close proximity to or touching the computer may feel a common shock sensation, similar to touching a doorknob after walking across a carpet, causing no harm to the user. This discharge is entirely due to the computer monitor; the headset is merely the shortest path to ground. To minimize the possibility of electrostatic discharge through the headset, you can:

Use a grounded screen in front of the monitor. Use static dissipative wrist straps. Increase the relative humidity in the room to 60% or more. Install static dissipative carpets or floor coverings (anti-static sprays can be helpful). Remove the headset before turning the computer on or off. Do not expose the headset to rain or other liquids. The headset is equipped with a rechargeable NiMH battery (nickel-metal-hydride). GN 9010 Assembling GN 9010 1. A. Disconnect handset cord from telephone and connect it to socket marked <Handset> at the bottom of base unit (A). B. Connect cord with modular plugs (D) to handset socket of the telephone and to socket marked

<Telephone> at the bottom of the base unit.

(If your telephone has a headset socket, just connect cord with modular plugs (D) to the headset socket at the telephone and to the socket marked <Telephone> at the bottom of the base unit. Then refer to step 1.C. ) C. Connect power unit adaptor (C) to socket marked <powersymbol> at the bottom of base unit, and then to a power socket. D. Switch on power. 2. Mount base unit on stand (B) by turning clockwise until secure. The three cords can extend from the 3. front or back of the base unit as you wish. Insert headset into base unit. Both sides of base unit can be used. The battery charging indicator (V) on base unit will light up. This side will be referred to as the front of the base unit. Before setting up GN 9010 to your telephone 4. The battery in the headset is not charged when delivered. To start, place headset in base unit for at least 45 min. before making the adjustments below. Remove headset from the base unit. The link will be instantly established and the on-line indicator (IV) on front of the base unit will light up. If the on-line indicator does not light up, place headset in base unit and remove it again to reset the headset. 0-10 seconds after having removed the headset from the base unit, the on-line indicator (IIX) on the headset starts flashing. If the on-line indicator on the headset does not flash, press simultaniously on both the upper and lower part of the volume button for 5 sec. The system is now working. Make sure that the mute function is off. If the mute function is on, you will hear a beep every 3 seconds in your headset. (see Technical Data) Turn off the mute function by pressing the mute button (VI) on the headset once. Setting up GN 9010 to your telephone Adjusting GN 9010 to your telephone 6. Change from headset to handset position by pressing the headset/handset button on top of base unit once. 10. Put on your headset, call someone using your handset and ask the person to help you evaluate the volume of your voice. 11. Adjust the microphone volume control (II) from 1 to 8 by first talking in the handset and then in the headset in each position. If the best setting is 7 or 8, it may be necessary to move the telephone termination switch (A-G) to G. Adjusting the headset for your comfort 12. You can wear the headset on your right or left ear, whichever side you prefer. To switch side, simply rotate the boom arm (H). The boom arm click-stops when it cannot turn any further. Warning: Do not force the boom arm over the top of the headset. 13. Adjust the length of the headband (F) so the headset rests comfortably on your head. The T-bar support (E) should be placed just above your free ear. 14. Adjust the boom arm so the microphone (I) is positioned approximately 2 cm from your mouth. Using GN 9010 Answering and making phone calls with GN 9010 15. Put on your headset. 16. Set the headset/handset button on top of base unit in headset position (see fig. 5). 17. Pick up handset (or if available on your terminal press the headset button). 18. Answer or make a call. 19. You can now move freely up to 10 meters away from the base unit, depending on the environment in your office building. If you move out of transmission range, GN 9010 lets you know by means of a beep every 10 seconds in your headset.(see Technical Data) 20. To end call, put down handset. Functions on the headset Adjusting the volume 21. To increase or reduce volume in your headset, press successively on the upper (+) or lower (-) part of the oval volume control (VII) on the headset. When the volume reaches maximum or minimum, you will hear a beep in your headset. (see Technical Data) Muting the microphone 22. To talk without your caller hearing you, press the mute button (VI) on the headset. You are still able to hear your caller. When the microphone is muted, you will hear a beep every 3 seconds in your headset. (see Technical Data) Powersave 23. When GN 9010 is out of range, you will hear a beep every 10 sec. When returning into range again, the headset will link up automaticly. The headset can be turned off by pressing simultaniously on the upper and the lower part of volume buttom. You will hear a long deep tone. You can turn the headset on again by pressing upper and lower part of volume buttom, and you will hear a shot beep. Charging the battery 24. When GN 9010 is not in use, place the headset in the base unit. Ensure that the on-line indicator is switched off. If the on-line indicator is still on, press the headset/handset button.This ensures optimum battery lifetime. When placed in the base unit, the battery charging indicator (V) automatically lights up and the headset is charged. It takes 1 hours to fully charge the battery of an GN 9010. A fully charged battery provides 2 hours of talktime. If battery power gets too low, GN 9010 lets you know by sending a beep every 20 seconds in your headset. (see Technical Data) Pairring/Bonding 25. To make the headset work, it must be pairred with the base unit. The base unit and the headset will be pairred when delivered. If you wish to use the headset with e.g. a mobile telephone, it must be pairred with the headset. Base unit Press the headset/handset button for more than 3 seconds. The LED on the base unit will blink when the button is released to indicate that the base unit is in pairring mode. Headset Turn the headset off and on again by pressing the Bluetooth button and simultaniously on both upper and lower part of the volume button. You will hear a beep (for 2 seconds) in the headset and the LED will light up. When both units are in pairring mode, the link will be established after 30 seconds. When pairring with a mobile telephone, see the user guide for the telephone. The headset is put in pairring mode as described above. Troubleshooting If you do not get a dial tone:

Check that all cords and jacks are connected correctly. Check that the power unit adaptor is plugged in and has power. Check that the headset/handset button on top of the base unit is in headset position and that the on-line indicators are lit up. Check that the battery is fully charged. If the battery is fully charged, the on-line indicator on the headset will flah when the headset is placed in the base unit. Check that the serial numbers in the bottom of the base unit and on the headset match. The numbers must match for operation. If you hear beeps in your headset:

A beep every 3 seconds means that the mute function is on. A beep every 10 seconds means that you are out of range, move closer to base unit. A beep every 20 seconds means that the battery is getting low and needs to be charged:

Check that the mute function is off (see Step 4). Re-adjust the microphone volume as described in Step 9-11. Check the position of the boom arm and make sure that the microphone is placed at the corner of your mouth. You may be out of range, move closer to base unit. Noise may be caused, if the base unit is placed too close to your telephone. Maintenance To change or clean the ear cushion (IX), first remove the earplate and ear cushion by turning the earplate 45 counterclockwise. Once removed, the ear cushion can be taken off the earplate. To clean or change the microphone foam cover, just pull it off gently. Note: No other parts can be replaced by the user. Safety Instructions Read the safety instructions below. They contain important information about using GN 9010. Keep this user guide for future use. GN 9010 is CE marked according to the provisions of the R & TTE Directive (99/5/EC ). Hereby, GN Netcom as declares that this GN 9010 is in compliance with the essential requirements and other relevant provisions of Directive 1999/5/EC. Please note that GN 9010 uses radio frequency bands not harmonised within EU. This means that only model 9010-89-04 can be sold and used in Spain and France. Never try to dismantle the product yourself. None of the internal components can be replaced or repaired by users. Avoid exposing GN 9010 to rain or other liquids. The headset is equipped with a rechargeable NiMH battery (nickel-metal-hydride). For replacement of battery, please contact your vendor.
