INSTRUCTION MANUAL UHF FM REPEATER iFR6000 IMPORTANT EXPLICIT DEFINITIONS READ THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL CAREFULLY before attempting to operate the re-
peater. SAVE THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL This manual contains important safety and operating in-
structions for the IC-FR6000 uhf fm repeater. WORD R WARNING CAUTION NOTE DEFINITION Personal injury, fire hazard or electric shock may occur. Equipment damage may occur. If disregarded, inconvenience only. No risk of personal injury, fire or electric shock. PRECAUTIONS R WARNING HIGH VOLTAGE! NEVER at-
tach an antenna or internal antenna connector during transmission. This may result in an electrical shock or burn. R WARNING HIGH VOLTAGE! NEVER in-
stall the antenna at any place that person touch the antenna easily during transmission. This may result in an electrical shock or burn. R WARNING! NEVER apply AC to the DC power receptacle on the repeater rear panel. This could cause a fire or damage the repeater. R WARNING! NEVER apply more than 16 V DC, such as a 24 V battery, to the DC power receptacle on the repeater rear panel. This could cause a fire or damage the repeater. R CAUTION! NEVER let metal, wire or other ob-
jects touch any internal part or connectors on the rear panel of the repeater. This may result in an electric shock. R CAUTION! NEVER expose the repeater to rain, snow or any liquids. DO NOT use or place the repeater in areas with temperatures below 30C (22F) or above
+60C (+140F). Be aware that temperatures can ex-
ceed 80C (+176F), resulting in permanent damage to the repeater if left there for extended periods. DO NOT place the repeater in excessively dusty envi-
ronments or in direct sunlight. DO NOT put anything on top of the repeater. This will obstruct heat dissipation. Place the repeater in a secure place to avoid inadver-
tent use by children. BE CAREFUL! The heatsink will become hot when operating the repeater continuously for long periods. BE CAREFUL! If a linear amplifier is connected, set the repeaters RF output power to less than the linear amplifiers maximum input level, otherwise, the linear amplifier will be damaged. Use Icom microphones only (optional). Other manu-
facturers microphones have different pin assign-
ments, and connection to the repeater may damage the repeater. Icom optional equipment is designed for optimal per-
formance when used with this repeater. We are not responsible for the repeater being damaged or any accident caused when using non-Icom optional equip-
ment. For U.S.A. only CAUTION: Changes or modifications to this repeater, not expressly approved by Icom Inc., could void your authority to operate this repeater under FCC regula-
tions. i Icom, Icom Inc. and the logo are registered trademarks of Icom Incorporated (Japan) in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Russia and/or other countries. SAFETY TRAINING INFORMATION W ARNING Your Icom radio generates RF electro-
magnetic energy during transmit mode. This radio is designed for and classified as Occupational Use Only, meaning it must be used only during the course of employment by individu-
als aware of the hazards, and the ways to minimize such hazards. This radio is NOT intended for use by the General Population in an uncon-
trolled environment. To ensure that your exposure to RF electromagnetic energy is within the FCC allowable limits for occupational use, always adhere to the following guidelines:
CAU TION DO NOT operate the radio without a proper antenna attached, as this may damage the radio and may also cause you to exceed FCC RF exposure limits. A proper antenna is the antenna supplied with this radio by the manufacturer or an antenna specifically authorized by the manufacturer for use with this ra-
dio. DO NOT transmit for more than 50% of total radio use time (50% duty cycle). Transmitting more than 50% of the time can cause FCC RF exposure com-
pliance requirements to be exceeded. The radio is transmitting when the TX indicator lights red. You can cause the radio to transmit by pressing the PTT switch. Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility During transmissions, your Icom radio generates RF energy that can possibly cause interference with other devices or systems. To avoid such interference, turn off the radio in areas where signs are posted to do so. DO NOT operate the transmitter in areas that are sensitive to electromagnetic radiation such as hospi-
tals, aircraft, and blasting sites. FOR CLASS B UNINTENTIONAL RADIATORS This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harm-
ful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turn-
ing the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit differ-
ent from that to which the receiver is connected. Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV techni-
cian for help. ii SUPPLIED ACCESSORIES The following accessories are supplied. Handles For handles attachment Spacers Screws DC power cable Function name stickers*

tons. For a description and a diagram of accessory equip-
ment included with the repeater, see SUPPLIED AC-
CESSORIES on p. iii of this manual. n Selecting a location Select a location for the repeater that allows adequate air circulation, free from extreme heat, cold, or vibra-
tions, and away from TV sets, TV antenna elements, radios and other electromagnetic sources. n Antenna connection For radio communications, the antenna is a critical component, along with output power and sensitivity. Select antenna(s), such as a well-matched 50 an-
tenna, and feedline. 1.5:1 or better of Voltage Stand-
ing Wave Ratio (VSWR) is recommended for desired band. Of course, the transmission line should be a coaxial cable. CAUTION: Protect repeater from lightning by using a lightning arrestor. NOTE: There are many publications that describe proper antennas and their installation. Check with your local dealer for more information and recom-
mendations. age the repeater. Check the source voltage before connecting the power cable. n Mounting the repeater D Using the supplied handle The supplied handles are available for mounting the repeater into a 19 inch rack. The handles can be in-
stalled to the repeaters front panel. q Attach the supplied handles to both sides of the re-
peaters front panel with the spacers, then tighten the screws as below. P0 P1 P2 P3 P4 Screw Handle Spacer w The completed installation should look like as below.
