ERT modules are radio-frequency (RF) devices that transmit meter data. The RF meter data can be received by a reading device that is within transmission distance of the ERT. Itron's 100G ERT module has increased output power over legacy gas ERT modules for increased RF transmission distance. This installation guide shows you how to install the 100G ERT module on meters from a variety of manufacturers. To ensure you have a meter that is compatible with the 100G ERT module, please see the Meter Compatibility List on page 2. Transmission Modes Once installed, the 100G ERT module has three available transmission modes:
Fixed Network Mode In this mode, a 100G ERT module transmits a high-powered RF message every 60 seconds. Output power in this mode is 250 milliwatts or
+24dBm; expected battery life is 20 years. Mobile and Handheld Mode In this mode, a 100G ERT module transmits a medium-powered RF message every 15 seconds. Output power in this mode is 10 milliwatts or +10dBm; expected battery life is 20 years.
(Optional) Hard to Read Mobile and Handheld Mode In this mode, a 100G ERT module transmits a high-powered RF message every 30 seconds. Output power in this mode is 250 milliwatts or +24dBm; expected battery life decreases to 15 years in this mode, however. The Hard to Read Mobile and Handheld Mode should only be used for 100G ERT modules that are difficult to read under normal conditions, such as modules installed on roof tops or in sub-basements. An FCC license is not required to read 100G ERT modules. Specifications The functional and operational specifications for the 100G are listed below. All Itron gas modules are 100G ERT Modules for your brand of gas meters. The model numbers of all meters on which the 100G ERT Modules will be installed are included in the Meter Compatibility List. There are four major steps to installing the 100G ERT Module on a meter:
Remove the index Assemble the 100G ERT Module Program the 100G ERT Module Attach the 100G ERT Module to the meter. These procedures are described in the following sections. NOTE Be sure to properly dispose of all unused screws, old index covers, gaskets, and other left-over materials. Do not leave any materials on customer premises. Remove the Existing Index The first major step when installing a 100G gas ERT on an meter is to remove the index from the meter. To Remove the Index 1. Remove any tamper seals from the meter. 6 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites 2. Detach the index cover from the meter by removing the four screws holding it in place. 3. Examine the index cover screws you just removed. Verify that they are 5/8-inch long and are not corroded. If the screws are 5/8-inch long, and are not corroded, keep them for later use. If the screws are an incorrect length or are corroded, dispose of them properly. Use 1/4 - 20 x 5/8-inch screws as described in Replacement Screws on page 6 instead. TIP You can use the index cover you just removed as a temporary storage location for screws. 4. Unscrew one index mounting screw completely. Hold one hand beneath the index to catch the screw when it falls out of the index assembly. If it does not fall out by itself, be sure to remove it. 5. Unscrew the other index mounting screw. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 7 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation While removing this screw, pull the index away from the meter to keep its backplate
(1) against the back of the screwhead (2). This prevents the screw from falling out prematurely. 1 2 6. Remove the screw from the index once it is completely free of its hole. 7. Set the index aside for the moment. Place it where it will not be damaged; get filled with dirt, rain, or snow; or fall to the ground or floor. The index will be used later in this procedure. 8. Examine the index screws you just removed. Verify that they are 3/16-inch long and are not corroded. If the screws are 3/16-inch long and are not corroded, keep them for later use. If the screws are an incorrect length or are corroded, dispose of them properly. Use 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch screws as described in Replacement Screws on page 6 instead. 9. Use a putty knife or similar object to completely remove the old index gasket from the meter (if applicable). All traces of the gasket must be removed before the ERT can be installed. 8 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites Assemble the ERT Module When installing a 100G ERT Module, the next major step is to create the endpoint module assembly by combining the endpoint backplate and cover with the meter index. Follow the procedure below to do so. To Assemble the ERT Module 1. Obtain a new 100G ERT Module. 2. Separate the ERT module backplate (1) from the cover (2). 3. Set the new ERT index cover aside for the moment. Place it where it will not be damaged; get filled with dirt, rain, or snow; or fall to the ground or floor. The ERT index cover will be used later in this procedure. IMPORTANT Before continuing with the installation, note the following information about American Meter indexes:
Index wrigglers on one-foot meters have drive slots. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 9 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation Index wrigglers on two-foot meters have drive posts. An index may have mounting screw holes. An index may have mounting screw slots. If the index has mounting screw slots, skip steps 4 and 5 below. Continue with step 6. If the index has mounting screw holes, perform steps 4 and 5 below, and then skip steps 6 and 7. 10 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites 4. If the index has mounting screw holes, place an index mounting screw (1) in the right-
hand mounting screw hole (2). Use one 8 - 32 3/16-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size replacement screw). 1 2 5. Attach the screw to the ERT backplate's right-hand index mounting post just far enough to hold the screw and end of the index in place. 6. If the index has mounting screw slots, screw an index mounting screw (1) one to two turns into the ERT backplate's right-hand index mounting post (2). Use one 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size replacement screw). Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 11 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation 1 2 7. Place the index mounting screw slot under the screw head. Do not tighten the screw yet. 1 2 8. Attach the wriggler to the index and backplate. If the index wriggler has a drive slot (1), place the backplate wriggler's drive post (2) in the index wriggler's drive slot. 1 2 12 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites If the index wriggler has a drive post (1), place the index wriggler's drive post in the backplate wriggler's drive slot (2). 1 2 9. Install and tighten the left-hand index mounting screw (for indexes with either mounting screw slots or holes). Use one 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded;
otherwise, use the correct size replacement screw). 10. Tighten the right-hand index mounting screw. 11. Slide the ERT cover (1) over the index and backplate (2). Next, program the ERT module. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 13 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation Program the ERT Module Once the ERT module has been assembled, the ERT must be programmed using the FC200SR with EndPoint-Link software. See the Endpoint-Link ERT Programming Guide
(TDC-0411) for more information. IMPORTANT You must perform the following programming procedure for the ERT module to function properly. When programming the ERT module, you must take note of the drive rate shown on the index of American meters. Examples of 1-foot (1) and 2-foot (2) drive rates are shown below (a 0.05 cubic metre drive rate is not shown). Be sure to program the ERT based on the drive rate indicated on the index. 1 2 14 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites To Program the ERT Module 1. Using the FC200SR, program the reading of the index that was on the meter into the ERT module assembly. For initial programming, hold the FC200SR approximately 1 foot away from the 100G. For reprogramming (30 days or more past initial programming), hold the FC200SR approximately 4 to 5 feet away from the 100G. Be sure to program the 100G to the correct mode for the reading technology what will be used (for example, Fixed Network Mode, Mobile/Handheld Mode, or Hard to Read Mobile/Handheld Mode). In Endpoint-Link Pro v5.0, you will have access to the one mode that was defined by your system administrator. During programming, the 100G ERT module is programmed to the nearest 100 cubic feet; the last two digits (the tens and units) are programmed as zeros (0). Once programming is complete, however, the ERT module assembly can be read to the nearest cubic foot. 2. Slowly turn the ERT module drive wriggler two turns in the direction indicated on the index drive rate. This lets you verify the ERT module is counting properly after assembly. IMPORTANT Do not turn the drive wriggler faster than one turn per second. 3. Read the ERT module assembly using the FC200SR. Consult the EndPoint-Link ERT Programming Guide (TDC-0411) or other applicable instructions for details on how to read an ERT. If this reading is higher than the one you programmed in step 1 above, the ERT module assembly is counting correctly. If the ERT module assembly reading is not higher than what was programmed in step 1, replace the ERT module with a new one. Attach the ERT Module to the Meter After the endpoint has been programmed and is reading correctly, it must be attached to the meter. Follow the steps below to do this. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 15 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation To Attach the ERT to the Meter 1. 5B 225 Meters Only If you are installing the ERT on a 5B 225 aluminum meter, cut 1/16-inch off each post of the ERT wriggler to prevent it from rubbing on the face of the nut that holds the wriggler in place. If you are not installing on a 5B 225 meter, continue to step 2 below. 2. Set the wriggler to the desired position for mounting the ERT module assembly to the meter. For One-Foot Meters: Align the ERT module assembly wriggler with the meter drive post (as shown below). Make sure the ERT wriggler is perpendicular to the meter drive post. 16 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites For Two-Foot Meters: Align the ERT module assembly wriggler with the meter drive slot (as shown below). It is acceptable for the pin on the 100G wriggler to be installed inside or outside of the meter drive slot. For ease of assembly, Itron recommends that the pin on the 100G wriggler be installed outside of the meter drive slot. 3. Gently place the ERT module assembly on the meter. Align the four screw holes on the ERT module assembly with the holes on the meter. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 17 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation 4. Install and tighten all ERT module assembly mounting screws, working in a diagonal pattern as shown below. Tighten the mounting screws to 15 to 20 inch-pounds of torque. Use the 1/4 - 20 x 5/8-inch screws for this step (you can use the original mounting screws if they were the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size Replacement Screws on page 6). 3 1 2 4 5. Place a new tamper seal over two of the mounting screws as shown below. 2 1 6. Press the new tamper seals into place using the 11/32-inch nut driver (or another similar blunt tool). 7. Complete any necessary paperwork. Make sure no excess material is left on the customer premises; dispose of it properly. 18 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites The ERT is now installed on the meter. Itron's latest gas encoder-receiver-transmitter (ERT) module. To ensure you have a meter that is compatible with the 100G ERT Module, refer to the Meter Compatibility List on page 6.
Before installing the 100G ERT Module, verify that you have:
A compatible meter shown in the Meter Compatibility List. A compatible index. Itron 100G ERT Modules can be used with standard dial and direct read (odometer) indexes. The list of materials defined under Installation Prerequisites in this chapter. Installation Prerequisites The following items are required to install the Itron 100G ERT Module. Materials Supplied by Itron The following items are supplied by Itron:
100G ERT Modules New tamper seals Materials Supplied By You You must supply the following items to install, initialize, and check the 100G ERT Module on the meter. Small and medium flat-blade or Phillips screwdrivers Used to remove and tighten index and index-cover screws. Side-cutting plier/wire snips Used for cutting wire seals, if necessary. Small putty knife Used to remove all traces of old gaskets from the meter. Meter seals, wire seals, and seal press Used to secure the meter from tampering, if necessary. 11/32-inch nut driver or other blunt tool Used to securely seat new tamper plugs over screw holes. Replacement screws Used to mount 100G ERT Module assembly to meter and index to module assembly backplates. FC200SR with EndPoint-Link or EndPoint-Link Pro software Used to program and check ERT assembly. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 13 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation Replacement Screws Replacement screws used in this procedure are shown below. For mounting 100G ERT Module assemblies on meters:
Use 1/4 - 20 x 5/8-inch slotted, Fillister head screws. For mounting indexes on 100G ERT Module backplates:
Use 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch slotted, round head screws. Preinstallation Preparations Before installing the 100G ERT Module on a meter, verify that:
All Itron gas modules are 100G ERT Modules for your brand of gas meters. The model numbers of all meters on which the 100G ERT Modules will be installed are included in the Meter Compatibility List. Installing the 100G ERT Module There are four major steps to installing the 100G ERT Module on a meter:
Remove the index Assemble the 100G ERT Module Program the 100G ERT Module Attach the 100G ERT Module to the meter. NOTE Properly dispose of all unused screws, old index covers, gaskets, tamper seals, and other left-over materials. Do not leave any materials on customer premises. Remove the Index The first major step when installing a 100G ERT Module on an meter is to remove the index from the meter. To remove the index 1. Remove any tamper seals from the meter. 14 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module 2. Use 1/4 - 20 x 5/8-inch screws as described in Replacement Screws on page 14 instead. TIP You can use the index cover you just removed as a temporary storage location for screws. NOTE Dispose of the index cover properly when finished with the installation procedure. Do not leave it on customer premises. 4. Unscrew one index mounting screw completely. Hold one hand beneath the index to catch the screw when it falls out of the index assembly. If it does not fall out by itself, be sure to remove it. 5. Unscrew the other index mounting screw. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 15 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation While removing this screw, pull the index away from the meter to keep its backplate
Use 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch screws as described in Replacement Screws on page 14 instead. 9. Use a putty knife or similar object to completely remove the old index gasket from the meter (if applicable). All traces of the gasket must be removed before the ERT can be installed. 16 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module Assemble the ERT Module When installing a 100G ERT Module, the next major step is to create the endpoint module assembly by combining the endpoint backplate and cover with the meter index.
Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 17 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation Index wrigglers on one-foot meters have drive slots. Index wrigglers on two-foot meters have drive posts. An index may have mounting screw holes. An index may have mounting screw slots. If the index has mounting screw slots, skip steps 4 and 5 below. Continue with step 6. 18 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module If the index has mounting screw holes, perform steps 4 and 5 below, and then skip steps 6 and 7. 4. If the index has mounting screw holes, place an index mounting screw (1) in the right-
hand mounting screw hole (2). Use one 8 - 32 3/16-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size replacement screw). 1 2 5. Attach the screw to the ERT backplate's right-hand index mounting post just far enough to hold the screw and end of the index in place. 6. If the index has mounting screw slots, screw an index mounting screw (1) one to two turns into the ERT backplate's right-hand index mounting post (2). Use one 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size replacement screw). Install and tighten the left-hand index mounting screw (for indexes with either mounting screw slots or holes). Use one 8 - 32 x 3/16-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded;
otherwise, use the correct size replacement screw). 10. Tighten the right-hand index mounting screw. 11. Slide the ERT cover (1) over the index and backplate (2). Next, program the ERT module. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 21 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation Program the ERT Module The ERT must be programmed using the FC200SR with EndPoint-Link software. See the Endpoint-Link ERT Programming Guide (TDC-0411) for more information. IMPORTANT You must perform the following programming procedure for the ERT module to function properly. When programming the ERT module, you must take note of the drive rate shown on the index of the meter. Program the meter based on the drive rate shown on the index. American meters. Examples of 1-foot (1) and 2-foot (2) drive rates are shown below (a 0.05 cubic metre drive rate is not shown). Be sure to program the ERT based on the drive rate indicated on the index. 1 2 To program the ERT module 1. Using the FC200SR, program the reading of the index that was on the meter into the ERT module assembly. 22 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module For initial programming, hold the FC200SR approximately 1 foot away from the 100G. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 23 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation To Attach the ERT to the Meter 1. 5B 225 Meters Only If you are installing the ERT on a 5B 225 aluminum meter, cut 1/16-inch off each post of the ERT wriggler to prevent it from rubbing on the face of the nut that holds the wriggler in place. 24 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module For Two-Foot Meters: Align the ERT module assembly wriggler with the meter drive slot (as shown below). 4. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the cover. Use the 1/4 - 20 x 5/8-inch screws for this step. You can use the original mounting screws if they were the correct size and not corroded, otherwise, use the correct size Replacement Screws on page 14. IMPORTANT Meter manufacturers should torque the mounting screws 15 to 20 inch-pounds. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 25 Chapter 2 American Meter Installation 3 1 2 4 5. Place a new tamper seal over two of the mounting screws as shown below. 2 1 6. Press the new tamper seals into place using the 11/32-inch nut driver (or another similar blunt tool). 7. When programming the ERT module, you must take note of the drive rate shown on the index of the meter. Program the meter based on the drive rate shown on the index. To program the ERT module 1. Using the FC200SR, program the reading of the index that was on the meter into the ERT module assembly. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 61 Chapter 5 American/Actaris Commercial Meter Installation For initial programming, hold the FC200SR approximately 1 foot away from the 100G. To attach the 100G ERT Module to the meter 1. Turn the ERT module upside down and turn the wriggler until its drive notches line up with drive teeth of the meter wriggler. IMPORTANT The 100G ERT Module must be handled carefully so that the metal passive radiator antenna does not get damaged. 62 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module Line up notches with teeth Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 63 Chapter 5 American/Actaris Commercial Meter Installation 2. Position the ERT module so its screw holes line up with the screw holes in the meter top then place the ERT module on the meter top. Make sure the INLET label on the ERT module is next to the INLET label on the meter case. INLET label on same side 64 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module 3. Carefully lower the 100G ERT Module onto the meter top so that its notches align with the teeth on the meter wriggler. 4. Make sure there is no gap between the bottom of the ERT module and the top of the meter. If there is a gap, it is because the drive notches of the ERT module's lower wriggler are not properly aligned with the meter wriggler's drive teeth. WARNING! Do not press down on the ERT module if there is a gap. If you do, you may damage the ERT module or the meter wriggler. 5. To eliminate a gap, slowly turn the ERT module upper wriggler back and forth with your fingers until the ERT module drops down onto the top of the meter. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 65 Chapter 5 American/Actaris Commercial Meter Installation 6. Place the index cover mounting plate on the ERT module so the words "FLOW FRONT AL800 AL1000 AL1400 AL2300 AL5000 TURBINE ROTARY" are toward the front of the meter. 66 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module A gap at the screw locations is normal both before and after the index cover mounting-plate screws are tightened. 7. Install the four ERT module mounting screws and tighten them, in a diagonal sequence. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the mounting plate. If you are using a torque wrench, tighten to 72 inch-pounds. 8. Place new tamper seals over screws and press the seals into place with an 11/32 inch nut driver, or other blunt tool. To attach the index and cover 1. Get the gasket you removed and place it on the index cover mounting plate. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 67 Chapter 5 American/Actaris Commercial Meter Installation 2. Align the gasket screw holes with the mounting plate's screw holes. Align with screw holes 3. Turn the index wriggler so it will go across the ERT module wriggler when you put the index onto the mounting plate. 4. Carefully lower the index and cover onto the mounting plate, facing the same way it was before you removed it. 5. Align the index cover screw holes with the screw holes in the gasket and index cover mounting plate. 6. Make sure there is no gap between the bottom of the index cover and the top of the gasket. If there is a gap, it is probably because the index wriggler is riding on top of the ERT module's upper wriggler. To eliminate a gap, repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 until the cover fits properly. 68 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing 100G ERT Module on Actaris WARNING! Do not press down on the index cover if there is a gap. If you do, you can damage the index wriggler or ERT module wriggler. 7. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the cover. 8. Place new tamper or wire seals over or through the screw heads. 9. Press tamper seals into place with an 11/32 nut driver, or other blunt tool, or crimp the seal if you are using wire seals. Installing 100G ERT Module on Actaris The information in this section guides you through the installation of the 100G ERT Module on Actaris 675A, 800A and 1000A meters. The installation requires an adapter kit (Actaris part number 80005901) which must be ordered from Actaris. The kit contains:
One adapter plate Four ERT mounting screws Four screw bushings Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 69 Chapter 5 American/Actaris Commercial Meter Installation One extension driver The old adapter plate will not work with the 100G ERT Module. However, the new adapter plate will work with the old and new Itron ERTs. To mount the index assembly to the adapter plate 1. Align the index assembly so that the back outside holes on the index mounting bracket line up with the two smaller holes towards the center of the adapter plate. 2. Place and tighten the two bracket screws. When assembled, the index assembly should look centered on the adapter plate. 3. Turn the 100G ERT Module upside down in your hand. 4. Use the other hand to place the four screw bushings into the 100G ERT Module's screw holes. If the screw bushings become dislodged before final assembly, replace them and repeat process. 5. Turn the 100G ERT Module right side up. 6. Place the extension driver onto the 100G ERT Module wriggler. 7. Turn the meters IDM outer drive dog so it is facing the same direction as the 100G ERT Module wriggler. 8. Carefully place the 100G ERT Module onto the meter. Make sure the meters IDM outer drive dog is still lined up with the 100G ERT Module wriggler. The INLET label on the meter top must be beside the INLET label on the 100G ERT Module. 9. Gently place the adapter plate and index assembly onto the 100G ERT Module attached to the meter. 70 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing 100G ERT Module on Actaris 10. Turn the index drive dog so it fits into the extension driver. The hole in the center of the adapter plate should fit comfortably around the extension driver and the rivets in the 100G ERT Module should fit into the holes in the adapter plate. 11. Place the index cover over the index assembly. The transparent section of the cover needs to be on the same side as the index dials so the meter readers can read the dials clearly. 12. Align the four holes in the index cover with the holes located in each corner of the adapter plate and install the cover screws. 13. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the cover. 14. Place the tamper seals into the front right and back left of the screw holes of the index cover. 15. Install tamper seals over the screws and press them into place with an 11/32 nut driver, or some other blunt tool. The tamper seals should not protrude above the index cover screw holes.
To remove the index 1. Remove any tamper seals from the meter. 74 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module 2. Remove the two screws and dispose of them properly. 3. Remove the index cover from the meter. 4. Remove the index mounting screws and the index from the meter. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 75 Chapter 6 National/Lancaster Meter Installation 5. Remove all traces of the old index cover gasket from the meter. The new ERT module has its own gasket. 6. Make sure the meter drive dog sticks straight out from the meter. 7. If the index has mounting legs, make sure each leg is parallel to the back of the index, as shown, to provide for proper alignment between ERT and meter. 76 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module 8. Make sure the index wriggler is parallel to the surface of the index. Indexes that do not have mounting legs must be attached to the ERT modules index backplate mounting posts. Indexes that have mounting legs only, must be attached to the ERT modules index bracket mounting posts. Leg bracket mounting posts Backplate mounting posts Indexes that have mounting legs as well as holes for mounting without legs can be mounted by using SCR-0015-001 to attach the mounting legs or by removing the two mounting legs and using SCR-0037-001 to attach the index to the ERT modules index backplate mounting posts. To attach the index to the 100G ERT Module using the mounting legs 1. Get two new screws (part number SCR-0015-001) for attaching indexes to ERT modules by their legs. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 77 Chapter 6 National/Lancaster Meter Installation 2. Install an index mounting screw in the left mounting hole and tighten the screw just enough to hold it in place. 3. Place the indexs mounting leg screw slot under the screw head and tighten the screw enough to hold the index leg in place, but loose enough so you can pivot the index around the screws. 4. Make sure the indexs right mounting leg screw slot is positioned over the ERT modules right index mounting leg screw hole. 5. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the mounting leg. To attach the index to 100G ERT Module without mounting legs 1. Get two screws (part number SCR-0037-001) for attaching indexes to ERT modules by their backplate mounting screw holes. 78 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module 2. Put the index mounting screws through the mounting screw hole in the ERT index backplate mounting post. 3. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the index backplate. Program the ERT The ERT must be programmed using the FC200SR with EndPoint-Link software. To program the ERT module 1. Using the FC200SR, program the reading of the index that was on the meter into the ERT module assembly. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 79 Chapter 6 National/Lancaster Meter Installation IMPORTANT Do not turn the drive wriggler faster than one turn per second. To attach the 100G ERT Module to the meter 1. Get two new ERT module mounting screws (part number SCR-0014-004). 2. Carefully place the ERT module assembly on the meter. Make sure the meter drive dog aligns with the white wriggler drive slot. 3. Make sure there is no gap between the 100G ERT Module and the meter. If there is a gap, the end of the meter drive dog is probably riding on the face of the ERT module wriggler drive post instead of in its drive slot. To eliminate the gap:
Remove the ERT module. Repeat step 2 to align the ERT module drive dog. 4. Turn each screw 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it contacts the cover. 80 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installing the 100G ERT Module 5. Sizing options are shown below. For mounting 100G ERT Module assemblies on meters:
Use 10 - 24 x5/8-inch slotted, Fillister head screws. For mounting indexes on 100G ERT Module backplates:
Use 6 - 32 x 5/8-inch slotted, round head screws.
To Remove the Existing Index 1. Remove any tamper seals from the meter. 22 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites 2. Detach the index cover from the meter by removing the four screws holding it in place. 4 1 2 3 3. Examine the index cover screws you just removed. Verify that they are 5/8-inch long and are not corroded. If the screws are 5/8-inch long and are not corroded, keep them for later use. If they are an incorrect length or are corroded, dispose of them properly. Use 10
- 24 x 5/8-inch screws as described in Replacement Screws on page 22 instead. TIP You can use the index cover you just removed as a temporary storage location for screws. 4. Unscrew one index mounting screw completely. 5. Remove the other index mounting screw. 6. Set the index aside for the moment. Place it where it will not be damaged; get filled with dirt, rain or snow; or fall to the ground or floor. The index will be used later in this procedure. 7. Examine the index screws you just removed. Verify that they are 5/8-inch long and are not corroded. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 23 Chapter 3 Sensus Meter Installation If the screws are 5/8-inch long and are not corroded, keep them for later use. If the screws are an incorrect length or are corroded, dispose of them properly. Use 6 -32 x 5/8-inch screws as described in Replacement Screws on page 22 instead. 8. Use a putty knife or similar object to completely remove the old index gasket from the meter (if applicable). All traces of the gasket must be removed before the ERT can be installed. Assemble the ERT Module When installing a 100G ERT Module, the next major step is to create the endpoint module assembly by combining the endpoint backplate and cover with the meter index. Follow the procedure below to do so. To Assemble the ERT 1. Obtain a new 100G ERT module. 2. Separate the ERT module backplate from the cover. 3. Place the index drive gear (1) in the backplate wriggler gear cup (2) of the ERT
(please note that the following example uses an 11-tooth drive gear; your index may have a 16- or 18-tooth drive gear, and you must use the appropriate 100G ERT module for your specific meter. See the Meter Compatibility list on page 2 for more information). 1 2 24 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites Once properly in place, the index drive gear and backplate wriggler cup should look similar to the following example. 4. Attach the right-hand mounting screw to the index and meter, just far enough to hold the index in place. Use one 6 - 32 x 5/8-inch screw for this step (you can use an original mounting screw if it was the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size Replacement Screw see "Replacement Screws" on page 22). 1 2 5. Install and tighten the left-hand index mounting screw. 6. Tighten the right-hand index mounting screw completely. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 25 Chapter 3 Sensus Meter Installation 7. Slide the ERT cover over the index and backplate. 8. Verify that the cover is installed correctly. Once combined, the ERT backplate, meter index, and ERT cover create an "ERT Module Assembly."
Next, program the ERT module. Program the ERT Once the ERT module has been assembled, the ERT must be programmed using the FC200SR with EndPoint-Link software. See the Endpoint-Link ERT Programming Guide
(TDC-0411) for more information. IMPORTANT You must perform the following programming procedure for the ERT module to function properly. When programming the ERT module, you must take note of the drive rate shown on the index of Sensus meters. Sensus meters have a 2-foot drive rate, as indicated in the example below (1), or a 0.05 cubic metre drive (not shown). 1 26 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites To Program the ERT Module 1. Attach the ERT to the Meter After the endpoint has been programmed and is reading correctly, it must be attached to the meter. Follow the steps below to do this. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 27 Chapter 3 Sensus Meter Installation To Attach the ERT to the Meter 1. Gently place the ERT module assembly against the front of the meter as shown. Make sure all four mounting screw holes in the ERT module assembly line up with the corresponding holes on the meter. 2. Insert the top-right cover mounting screw. Tighten the screw just enough to hold the ERT module assembly in place. Use the 10 - 24 x 5/8-inch screws for this and the following step (you can use the original mounting screws if they were the correct size and not corroded; otherwise, use the correct size as described in Replacement Screws on page 22). 28 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites 3. Install and tighten the remaining three mounting screws. Tighten the mounting screws to 15 to 20 inch-pounds of torque. 3 1 2 4. Tighten the top-right mounting screw. 5. Place a new tamper seal over two of the mounting screws as shown below. 1 2 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 29 Chapter 3 Sensus Meter Installation 6. Press the new tamper seals into place using the 11/32-inch nut driver (or another similar blunt tool). 7. Complete any necessary paperwork. Make sure no excess material is left on the customer premises. The ERT is now installed on the meter. 30 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide C H A P T E R 4 Actaris Meter Installation This chapter shows you how to install a 100G ERT Module on an Actaris meter. Assemble the 100G ERT Module When installing a 100G ERT Module, the next major step is to create the endpoint module assembly by combining the endpoint backplate and cover with the meter index. Follow the procedure below to do so. 1. Put the index mounting screws about two turns into the backplate index mounting posts. 34 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites 2. Position the backplate and index wrigglers as shown below. 3. Slide the index mounting brackets onto the mounting screws. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 35 Chapter 4 Actaris Meter Installation 4. Make sure the backplate wriggler post is below the index wriggler when lowering the index mounting brackets onto the index mounting screws. 5. Tighten the index mounting screws. 6. Slide the cover all the way onto the backplate and index until it snaps into place. Program the ERT Module Once the ERT module has been assembled, the ERT must be programmed using the FC200SR with EndPoint-Link software. See the Endpoint-Link ERT Programming Guide
(TDC-0411) for more information. IMPORTANT You must perform the following programming procedure for the ERT module to function properly. When programming the ERT module, you must take note of the drive rate shown on the index of Actaris meters. Examples of 1-foot (1) and 2-foot (2) drive rates are shown below
(a 0.05 cubic metre drive rate is not shown). Be sure to program the ERT based on the drive rate indicated on the index. To Program the ERT Module 1. Using the FC200SR, program the reading of the index that was on the meter into the ERT module assembly. 36 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites For initial programming, hold the FC200SR approximately 1 foot away from the 100G. Attach the 100G ERT Module to the Meter After the endpoint has been programmed and is reading correctly, it must be attached to the meter. Follow the steps below to do this. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 37 Chapter 4 Actaris Meter Installation To Attach the Endpoint to the Meter 1. Turn the white wriggler so one of its four drive slots lines up with the drive dog. 2. Gently place the 100G ERT Module on the meter. If there is a gap between the gasket and the meter, it is probably because the drive slot of the ERT module assembly's wriggler is not properly aligned with the meter wriggler drive dog. To correct this, remove the assembly and repeat the alignment procedure in step one. 3. Install and tighten the 100G ERT Module mounting screws. 4. Press new tamper seals into place with and 11/32 nut driver, or other blunt tool. Attaching the 100G ERT Module to Model 240-1A Meters If you want to install a 100G ERT Module on a 240-1A meter you will have to use the CFG-0015-001 adapter kit. Obtain the kit from Itron then use the following procedure to install the kit and the 100G ERT Module. 38 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites 1. Make sure you have all of the following items in the kit:
2. Remove the drive dog from the meter and replace it with the one from the kit. Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 39 Chapter 4 Actaris Meter Installation 3. Attach Adapter Shim Plate to the meter, as shown, using the two index mounting screws from the kit. Be sure to apply 15 to 20 pounds of torque to the screws to provide a tight seal between the shim plate and the meter. If the gasket is not attached to the shim plate, please request Itron PRA-
0056-008. 4. Turn the white wriggler so one of its four drive slots lines up with the drive dog. 5. 6. Install and tighten the 100G ERT Module mounting screws. 7. Press new tamper seals into place with and 11/32 nut driver, or other blunt tool. 40 Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide Installation Prerequisites Natural Gas Solutions 100G Installation Guide 41
