Introduction Thank you for choosing the LX-FT4 BLUETOOTH INTERCOM. This product has a 2,000 meters (1.2 miles) bike-to-bike full-duplex intercom maximum range, includes Bluetooth stereo wireless helmet headset(s), and is designed for installation into most open face, modular, and full-face style helmets. With the LX-FT4 you can call hands-free on your Bluetooth mobile phone, listen to music or voice instructions of GPS navigation, and activate wireless Intercom for rider-to-rider or rider-to-passenger intercom talk within a range of 2,000 meters (1.2 miles) (if four units are connected). The LX-FT4 is compliant with Bluetooth Specification V3.0 supporting the following profiles: Headset Profile (HSP), Hands-Free Profile (HFP), and Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). It supports universal pairing with most Bluetooth headsets on the market. The user can activate Siri or S-Voice from the main unit for voice dialing and other voice commands. The FM radio tuner is built into the main unit and allows for station scanning. Superior audio fidelity has been achieved with our high fidelity, non-ported, and ultra-slim helmet HD speakers. This headset also provides the industry's best combination of wind and ambient noise reduction with the miniature boom microphone. The main unit is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion/polymer power cell that provides 10-15 hours of active use from a full charge. standby time is over a week. Please read this User Manual carefully before using this product. 1 How It Works 2. Installation Instructions 3.1.1 Mount the bracket between the internal padding and external shell of the helmet, and tighten the two screws between the bracket and clamp plate by using the allen wrench. Note: Depending on the size and shape of your helmet, you may need to change the thickness of the rubber pad between the clamp plates. You can find two extra rubber pads in the box. To increase the overall thickness, attach the thinner one to the original rubber pad or replace the original rubber pad with the thicker one. 3 3.1.2 If have any problems with mounting the bracket, you may use the 3M tape to adhere it onto the helmet. Just take off the rubber pad from the bracket, peel off the protective backing sheet of the double 3M tape. Remember that the white side adheres onto the bracket and the red side adheres onto the helmet.Press for 15 seconds and allow the glue dry for 24 hours. Note: Even though the 3M Tape mounting is provided for convenience, LEXIN recommends using the bracket mounting. The 3M Tape mounting is offered as an option that you may use at your own risk and responsibility, LEXIN does not assume any responsibility for use of it. 3.2 Locate an area in the nose section just to the left of center to mount the button microphone for full helmets . Place the button microphone to the velcro pad and connect it to the connector of the headset. 4 If you are installing into an open face helmet, attach the microphone to the velcro pad, and adjust the direction of the microphone so that the triangular mark on the microphone is pointing towards your mouth. Use the boom microphone holder to fix the microphone if necessary. 3.3 Place the speakers into the helmets inner padding. Push the speakers and microphone firmly against the Velcro pads. If the helmet has deep ear pockets, you can use the speaker pads to place the speakers closer to your ears. 3.4 Press the wires into the gap between the helmet liner and shell. Note: The speaker with shorter wire is for the left ear and the speaker with the longer one is for the right ear, to enhance the FM radio reception as well. 3.5 Mount the LX-FT4 main unit on the bracket. Attach the top first, then slide the main unit down onto the bracket until it clicks firmly into the bottom portion of the bracket. 5 3.6 To remove the main unit from the bracket, press the top part of the bracket and take it out. 4. General Operation Instructions 4.1 Powering On/Off and Charging Power On Press and hold both the A button and Jog Dial simultaneously for about 2 seconds. The LED will blink blue. You will hear the voice announcement about the current battery life. Power Off Press and hold both the A button and Jog Dial simultaneously for about 2 seconds. The blue LED will turn red, then off. Charging Plug the USB cable into the USB port. The LED turns red while charging, and will turn solid blue when fully charged. It takes about 2.5 hours to be completely charged. Low Battery Alert When the battery power drops below 20%, about 1-1.5 hours of use remains, and a beep tone will sound every 5 minutes. 4.2 Pairing the LX-FT4 with a Bluetooth Device Start with the unit powered off, press and hold the A button for about 3 seconds until the LED begin flashing blue and red. Follow the source devices instructions to connect. After the source device has been paired, the LX-FT4 will automatically connect when it is turned on and the Bluetooth is enabled on the source. To manually connect, simply click the Jog Dial to connect with the audio source. Pairing a Mobile Phone Step 1. Start with the unit powered off, press and hold the A button for about 3 seconds until the LED begin flashing blue and red. Step 2. Search for Bluetooth devices on your mobile phone. The headset will be listed on your mobile phone as LX-FT4. Step 3. Enter 0000 for the PIN if needed. Step 4. Your mobile phone will confirm that pairing is complete. The blue LED blinks after they are connected. 6 Pairing a Stereo Bluetooth Adaptor Step 1. Turn on the audio source and prepare Stereo Bluetooth Adaptor for pairing Step 2. Put LX-FT4 main unit in Bluetooth pairing mode (see above) Step 3. Turn on or plug in the Stereo Bluetooth Adaptor Step 4. The audio source will automatically start playing through the LX-FT4 main unit when pairing is complete. Pairing Bluetooth GPS Navigation Step 1. The pairing procedure is the same with Pairing Mobile Phone Step 2. Please refer to the manual of the Bluetooth GPS navigation for details. Step 3. You can listen to Bluetooth voice instructions from Bluetooth GPS navigation. 5. Controls and Functions 5.1 Volume and Music Control When playing music, press and hold the Jog Dial for one second to enter track control mode, a beep tone will sound, then within 5 seconds rotate the Jog Dial counter clockwise for previous track, clockwise for next track. After 5 seconds, the Jog Dial reverts back to volume control mode automatically and a beep tone will sound. Rotate the Jog Dial clockwise for volume up and counter clockwise for volume down. Click the Jog Dial button to play or pause music. 5.2 Safe Mobile Phone Calls - Incoming and Outgoing 5.2.1 Answer incoming call:
Click the Jog Dial button to answer the phone call. Note: The LX-FT4 will NOT automatically answer the incoming phone. You can enable or disable the automatic incoming phone call answer feature by pressing and holding both the Jog Dial button and B button for 2 seconds, when you see the red light flash 3 times, it is disabled, when you see the blue light flash 3 times, it is enabled. 5.2.2 Reject incoming call Double click the Jog Dial button. 5.2.3 End active phone call Click the Jog Dial button. 5.2.4 Voice Dial When in standby mode, press and hold the Jog Dial button for one second to activate Siri or S-Voice. You will hear a beep sound, and then there will be a voice prompt from the mobile phone. Simply speak the name from your phone list to dial. 5.2.5 Last phone call number redial When in standby mode, double-click the Jog Dial button. 7 5.3 Bluetooth Intercom Talk 5.3.1 Pairing with other LX-FT4 headsets for intercom talk Prior to pairing units for communications before riding, we strongly suggest that all existing connections be cleared from each unit. To clear existing connections, simply press and hold A button and B button together until the red LED flashes. All previous connections will be cleared from the unit. 1) Pairing two LX-FT4 headsets to talk Tips: To start an intercom talk, you should pair the two units first. Step 1. Pairing two LX-B4FM units first Start with both units powered off, press and hold the A button on both units for 3 seconds until the LED is flashing blue and red to enter pairing mode. unit one unit two Click the A button on either unit to pair. Once pairing starts, the LED on the unit clicked will flash only blue. When the LED is blinking blue on both units, then pairing is complete and successful. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two 8 Step 2. Start an intercom talk Click the A button on either unit to start intercom talk. When in an intercom talk, you can see the LED will flash 3 times in blue every 3 seconds on both units. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two Step 3. Disconnect an intercom talk Click the A button or Jog Dial button on either unit to disconnect. When disconnected you will see the LED blinking blue on both units. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two 2) Pairing three LX-FT4 headsets to talk Tips: Before pairing, please mark the different number on each LX-FT4 unit like the above photo for better understanding of operation. 9 Step 1. Pairing unit one with unit two Start with both units powered off, simultaneously hold the A button on unit one and unit two for 3 seconds until the red and blue LED of both units flash. Click the A button on either unit to pair. unit one unit two Once pairing starts, the LED on the unit clicked will flash only blue. When the LED is blinking blue on both units, then pairing is complete and successful. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two Step 2. Pairing unit two with unit three Power on unit two and unit three. Simultaneously hold the B button on both units for 3 seconds until the red and blue LED flashing. unit two unit three 10 Click the B button on either unit to pair. Once pairing starts, the LED on the unit clicked will flash only blue. When the LED is blinking blue on both units, then pairing is complete and successful. unit two or unit three unit two and unit three Step 3. Start intercom talk After all three units are paired, unit two will be set as the bridge unit. For three riders intercom talk, we would recommend to start intercom talk through the bridge unit two. 3.1 Connect end unit one with bridge unit two:
Click the A button on unit two or unit one. Once connected, the LED will flash 3 times in blue every 3 seconds on both units. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two 3.2 Connect bridge unit two with end unit three:
Click the B button on unit two or unit three. Once connected, the LED will flash 3 times every 3 seconds in blue on unit three, while the LED on unit two will turn purple and flash 3 times every 3 seconds after it connects both end units. 11 Step 4. Disconnect the intercom talk 4.1 To disconnect unit one and bridge unit two, click the A button or Jog Dail button on unit one, or click the A button on bridge unit two. While unit two and unit three stay connected. unit one unit one and unit two 4.2 To disconnect unit two and unit three, click the B button or Jog Dial on unit three, or click the B button on bridge unit two.While unit two and unit one stay connected. unit three unit two and three 4.3 To disconnect all three units, simply click the Jog Dail button on bridge unit two. unit two all three units Note: The LED light on the bridge unit two will flash in purple when three units are all connected. 12 3) Pairing four LX-FT4 headsets to talk Tip: Before pairing, please mark the different number on each LX-FT4 unit like the above photo for better understanding of operation. Step 1. Pairing unit one with unit two Start with both units powered off, press and hold the A button on unit one for 3 seconds until the LED is flashing blue and red, and then do same on unit two to enter pairing mode on both units. unit one unit two Click the A button on either unit to pair. Once pairing starts, the LED on the unit clicked will flash only blue. When the LED is blinking blue on both units, then pairing is complete and successful. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two Step 2. Pairing unit three with unit four Repeat the same steps used for unit one and two with unit three and four. 13 Step 3. Pairing unit two with unit three With both units powered on, press and hold the B button on unit two for 2 seconds until the LED is flashing blue and red, then do the same on unit three to enter pairing mode on both units. unit two unit three Click the B button on either unit to pair. Once pairing starts, the LED on the unit clicked will flash only blue. When the LED is blinking blue on both units, then pairing is complete and successful. unit two or unit three unit two and unit three Step 4. Start intercom talk After all four units are paired, unit two and unit three have been set as bridge units. For four riders intercom talk, we would recommend to start intercom talk through the bridge unit two and bridge unit three. 4.1 Connect unit one with unit two:
While in standby mode, click the A button on unit two or unit one. Once connected, the LED will flash 3 times in blue every 3 seconds on both units. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two 14 4.2 Connect unit three with unit four:
While in standby mode, click the A button on either unit three or four. Once connected, the LED will flash 3 times in blue every 3 seconds on both units. unit three or unit four unit three and unit four 4.3 Connect bridge units two and three:
While in standby mode, click the B button on either unit two or unit three to connect. Once connected, the LED will turn purple on both units and flash 3 times every 3 seconds. unit two or unit three unit two and unit three Tips: To connect Bridge units, click the B button. To connect Bridge unit with End unit, click the A button on the end unit. Note: The LED light on the bridge unit 2 and unit 3 will flash in purple when they stay connected with two units. Step 5. Disconnect the intercom talk 5.1 To disconnect unit one and unit two, click the A button or Jog Dail button on unit one, or click the A button on bridge unit two. While the other three units stay connected. unit one or unit two unit one and unit two 15 5.2 To disconnect unit three and unit four, click the B button or Jog Dial on unit four, or click the B button on bridge unit three. While the other three units stay connected. unit three or unit four unit three and unit four 5.3 To disconnect bridge unit two and bridge unit three, click the B button on either unit, while they stay connected with the end units, say unit two stays connected with unit one, and unit three stays connected with unit four. unit two or unit three unit two and unit three 5.4 To disconnect all, click Jog Dial on both unit two and unit three. unit two and unit three all four units Note: To maximize effective intercom range, keep in mind that each unit is like a link in a chain to maximize communication range keep the chain in the order the links are connected. unit one or four should always either lead or follow, with units two and three in the middle in the correct order. Either one: two: three: four, or four: three: two: one. Note:
You will hear a beep sound when you start an intercom talk, it may take a few seconds to connect the other unit, please wait till both units are connected to talk.
* If the bridge unit two and bridge unit three are disconnected, then the group will be disconnected.
* If the end unit one or unit four is disconnected, the other three stay connected. 16
* If one unit has lost connection with another, the two units on the same channel are still connected. Just follow the above connecting instruction to reconnect the other disconnected unit when it is back in Intercom range.
* If one intercom rider goes out of range during a intercom talk, there may be static and eventually the intercom will disconnect. In this case, th e LX-FT4 automatically tries to reconnect the Intercom rider every eight seconds and you will hear high tone double beeps until the connection is reestablished. you dont want to make a re-connection, press the Jog Dial button to stop the attempt.
* For four riders to successfully communicate, we suggest connecting the two Bridge units that are paired using the B button first, then connect them to the End units that are paired by A button. Since unit two and unit three act as a bridge in the chain we suggest keeping them within the stated intercom range to maintain continuous communication. Tips: To save battery power, disconnect the intercom units if you do not need to talk. Important: The Bridge unit cannot be connected with a Bluetooth device (phone or GPS) while it is being used as an Intercom Bridge. 5.4 Universal Pairing:
To enter pairing mode: Power on the LX-FT4, press and hold the B button for about 2 seconds until the LED begin flashing blue and red. Follow the other brands bluetooth unit instructions to enter pairing mode also. Click the B button on LX-FT4 to pair. Once pairing starts, the LED on the LX-FT4 unit will flash only blue. When the LED is blinking blue on both units, then pairing is complete and successful. To connect the LX-FT4 unit with the other: While in standby mode, double click the B button on the LX-FT4 unit to connect. Once connected, the LED will flash 3 times in blue every 3 seconds on LX-FT4 units. To disconnect, click the Jog Dial on the LX-FT4 unit. Note: You can only initiate the intercom from our LX-FT4 unit. 5.5 FM Radio Turn on/off FM radio When in standby, press and hold the A button for 2 seconds to turn on FM radio. Press and hold it again for 2 seconds to turn off FM radio. FM Radio Station Search When in FM radio mode, press and hold the Jog Dial for one second to enter station search mode, a beep tone will sound, within 10 seconds rotate the Jog Dial clockwise for up search, counter clockwise for down search. After 10 seconds, it reverts to volume control mode automatically and a beep tone will sound, or you can press &
hold the Jog Dial for 1 second to go back volume control mode. 17 Preset and store up to 6 FM radio stations In FM radio mode, when a favorite station is found, click the Jog Dial to save. A beep tone will sound. Preset and store up to 6 FM radio stations. Once 6 stations have been saved, saving a new station will overwrite the oldest saved station. Click the A button to rotate between each saved station. 5.6 Function Priority The LX-FT4 operates in the following order of priority:
1. Mobile phone (highest) 2. Intercom 3. Bluetooth stereo music, FM radio (lowest) A lower-priority function is always interrupted by a higher-priority function. For example, stereo music is interrupted by an Intercom call, and Intercom intercom talk is interrupted by an incoming mobile phone call. 5.7 Reset To clear the previous pairing, press A and B button simultaneously until the LED flashes red. 5.8 Battery Life Prompt Every time you turn on the unit, it will automatically report the current battery life. Double click A button to repeat the battery life notification. It will report one of five levels: 100% / 80% / 50% / 30% / LOW 5.9 Change LED Color To change LED color, press both the Jog Dial and B button, it will cycle Blue on, Red on, Red flashing, Purple on, Purple flashing, and Bluetooth indicator light. Only when in Bluetooth indicator light mode, you can see the changes for Bluetooth pairing or other settings. Note: LED color changing mode drains battery faster than usual , so please only use it when needed. 6. Maintenance and Care The LX-FT4 should be treated with care and the following suggestions will help maintain your Warranty. 6.1. Do not use or store the device in dusty or dirty environments. Moving parts and electronic components can be damaged. 6.2. Do not store the device in high heat areas. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics. 6.3. Do not store the device in cold temperature areas. When the device returns to its normal temperature moisture can form inside the device and damage electronic circuit boards. 18 6.4. Do not attempt to open the LX-FT4 case. 6.5. Do not drop or knock the device. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards and fine mechanics. 6.6. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the device. 6.7. Do not paint the device. Paint can clog the moving parts and prevent proper operation. These suggestions apply equally to the headset main unit, speaker-microphone clamp unit, and power charger. 7. The limited warranty extends only to the original consumer purchaser of the Product and is not assignable or transferable to any subsequent purchaser/end-user. Limited warranty service may be obtained by delivering the Product to LEXIN or to the international distributor it was purchased through and providing proof of purchase or receipt date. Customer agrees to insure the Product or assume the risk of loss or damage in transit, to prepay shipping charges to LEXIN, and to use the original shipping container or equivalent. 9.Waiver and General Release By using the Product, you will waive substantial legal rights including the right to use. Please read the following carefully before using the device. By using the Product, you agree to be bound to this agreement and forfeit the right to sue. 20 By using the Product, you are irrevocably releasing, indemnifying from any liability, loss, claim and expense (including attorneys fees) and holding LEXIN harmless for any bodily injuries, harm or death as well as losses or damages in goods, to any vehicles including your own, or to any property or asset that belong to you or to third parties, any of which may result from using the Product under any circumstances or conditions and irrespective of jurisdiction. 9.1. You, your heirs, legal representatives, successors or assigns, hereby voluntarily and forever release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless LEXIN from any and all litigation, claims, debts, demands, actions and liability which may arise, directly or indirectly, from using the Product for any distress, pain, suffering, discomfort, loss, injury, death, damages to or in respect to any person or property however caused, WHETHER ARISING FROM THE NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE, and which may hereafter accrue to you on some future date as a result of said use, to the fullest extent permitted by law. 9.2. You fully understand and assume the risks in using the Product, including risk of negligent acts or omissions by others. All risks for operating the Product are assumed solely by the user of the Product. 9.3. You confirm that you are physically capable to use the Product and that you have no medical conditions or needs that may infringe upon your abilities to do so in a safe manner. You confirm that you are at least eighteen (18) years of age and that you have been advised of the risks associated with the use of the Product. You further confirm that you will not consume any alcohol that may affect your alertness or any mind-altering substance, and will not carry, use or consume these substances before or during the use of the Product. 9.4. You fully acknowledge our warnings and understand that:
(a) Risks and dangers exist in using the Product while in traffic, including but not limited to injury or illness, strains, fractures, partial and/or total paralysis, death or other ailments that could cause serious disability;
(b) These risks and dangers may be caused by the negligence of the manufacturers or its agents or any third party involved in designing or manufacturing the Product;
(c) These risks and dangers may arise from foreseeable or unforeseeable causes. You hereby assume all risks and dangers and all responsibility for any losses and/ or damages, whether caused in whole or in part by the negligence or other conduct of others, including LEXIN. 9.5.
