Also, be careful not to scratch or damage the display by using a strap whose metal or other hard part comes in contact with the display. When suddenly brought into a warm place from a cold place, or when in a humid location, or when used where temperature suddenly changes, water droplets (i.e. condensation) sometimes are formed inside the LGL21. Note that when used under conditions such as this, humidity might cause a fault. Be careful when using the LGL21 in a high temperature place for a long time. It might become hot. Use of it with your skin touching the product for a long time might cause low-temperature burns. When wiping the display, wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Use of a moistened cloth, glass cleaner or other similar liquid might cause a fault. When connecting/disconnecting the external device to/from the connection terminal, make sure that the USB plug or connector of the external device is horizontal with the connection terminal. Note that applying unnecessary force with the device connected to the connection terminal might cause damage. Do not discard the LGL21 together with regular trash. Please cooperate in the collection of the LGL21 when it is no longer needed to protect the environment and effectively use resources. Old products are collected at au shops and other places. When hearing the other party's voice, make sure that the earpiece is placed at the center of your ear. If the earpiece (audio output port) is closed by the ear lobe, it may be hard to hear the voice. Even if you cover the microphone to make your voice inaudible to the other party, the other party can hear your voice. When using handsfree call, take care to keep the speaker at a safe distance from your ears, as the speaker volume may be too loud. Do not cover the light sensor with your finger or put a sticker on it. Doing so may hinder the light sensor from detecting the ambient brightness and functioning correctly. Screen background light turns off while you are making a call when you cover the proximity sensor with your fingers or put a sticker on the proximity sensor. In this case, touch panel and power key are no longer available to operate. Do not put the LGL21 near the air discharge port of an air conditioner. It might generate condensation when the temperature changes extremely fast. Malfunctions might get caused due to the corrosion inside. Be careful not to pull HDMI connector strongly or place excessive force on it. It might cause malfunctions. The LGL21 is not waterproof. Do not pure water on it. S a f e t y p r e c a u t i o n s 19 Make sure to stow the TV antenna before putting the LGL21 inside your pocket or bag. Also, do not pull or bend the TV antenna strongly on purpose. Doing so might cause injury or damage. The display might look unclear in direct sunlight. It is not a fault. TouchPanel Use your finger (two fingers for pinching) to operate the touch panel. Do not use sharp-pointed objects such as ballpoint pens, pencils, etc. or hard objects such as nails, metal, etc. Using such objects does not only hinder correct operation of the touch panel, but also might cause scratching or damage to the display. Do not put stickers or sheets (e.g. commercially available protective films, peep prevention sheets) on the display. Doing so might hinder correct operation of the touch panel. Do not operate the touch panel with fingernails. Doing so might result in split nails or jammed fingers. Do not press the touch panel strongly or operate it by wet fingers. Also, do not operate the product when the display has water drops or condensation on it. Doing so might cause improper reaction of touch panel. If the display surface is dirty or covered with dust, it may not function correctly. In such case, wipe the display surface with a dry, soft cloth. Be careful that cleaning the display with a dry cloth might cause injury. When carrying the product in your pocket or bag, take care not to put the touch panel close to metals or other conductive materials, as it might cause false operation of the touch panel. Batterypack Do not touch connection terminal with a cotton swab or other sharp-pointed items. Since the connection terminal is made of groove-shaped metal spring, materials other than terminal metal might deform when being inserted and might not available to use. Use in very hot or cold environments, for example, when left in an automobile with the windows closed in summer, will cause the battery capacity to drop and shorten the available battery usage time. This will also shorten the battery pack's service life. Try to use the battery pack as far as possible at room temperature. When the battery pack is not to be used for a long time, remove the battery pack from the main unit of the LGL21 and put it in a plastic bag. Store it away from hot and humid places. Charge the battery before using the product for the first time after purchase, or if you have not used the product for a long time. The battery pack is a consumable item. The available usage time gets shorter every time when it is charged. It is recommended to replace your battery pack when its length of service life becomes half of a new one even after being fully charged. Do not discard battery packs together with regular trash. Please cooperate in the collection of used battery packs to protect the environment and effectively use resources. au shops and other retailers collect used battery packs. Battery packs sometimes swell up as they approach the end of their service life. This is due to the properties of lithium-ion batteries, and is not a problem in terms of safety. When replacing battery pack, make sure to follow the specified method. Any methods not specified when attaching or removing battery pack might cause damage of battery pack or battery cover. S a f e t y p r e c a u t i o n s 20 Do not attach other cards into the LGL21 than the au IC-Card. It is not available to use other cards. The warning tone cannot be changed. Emergency earthquake information is sent to areas where strong quakes (over 4 degrees) are expected during earthquakes ranging from 5 to 5.5 degrees. Immediately after an earthquake occurs, quakes (P waves and initial tremors) near the epicenter are detected and position, scale, and expected strength are automatically calculated and notifi cation is sent as soon as possible within a few seconds to tens of seconds before the strong quakes (S waves and major tremors) caused by the earthquake start. Emergency earthquake information may not arrive before strong tremors in areas near the epicenter. Disaster evacuation information is a service that distributes bulletins concerning residents' safety including evacuation advisories, evacuation orders and other warnings issued by the national and local governments. This service is available only in Japan (it cannot be used overseas). No information fee or communication charge is required for receiving emergency early warning mail. KDDI is not liable for damages suff ered by customers resulting from the service's information, lack or delay in the information caused by transmission or system breakdowns, or other events that are outside the responsibility of KDDI. Refer to the Japan Meteorological Agency web page for details about distribution of emergency earthquake information. http://www.jma.go.jp/
M a i l 53 You cannot get any emergency early warning mail when the power is off or during a phone call. Once the emergency early warning mail fails in receiving, the same mail cannot be received later again. SpecificAbsorptionRate(SAR)ofcell phones This model LGL21 cell phone complies with Japanese technical regulations and international guidelines regarding exposure to radio waves. This cell phone has been designed in observance of the Japanese technical regulations regarding exposure to radio waves (*1) and limits to exposure to radio waves recommended by equivalent inter national guidelines. These international guidelines were set out by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), which is in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), and the permissible limits include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health condition. The Japanese technical regulations and international guidelines defi ne the limits using a unit of measurement known as the Specifi c Absorption Rate (SAR), which represents the average amount of radio frequency energy absorbed by the human head. The SAR limit for cell phones is 2.0 W/kg. The highest SAR value for this cell phone when tested for use at the ear is XXXX W/kg. There may be slight diff erences in SAR levels among individual products, but they all satisfy the limit. The actual SAR of this cell phone while talking on the phone can be well below that indicated above. This is due to automatic changes in the power level of the cell phone to ensure it only outputs the minimum power required to communicate with a base station. Therefore in general, the closer you are to a base station, the lower the power output of the cell phone. This cell phone can be used in positions other than against your ear. This cell phone satisfi es the international guidelines when used with au Carrying Case F Black 0.678 A p p e n d x i 67 Wave Utilization Environment set up in the Information and Communication Technology Group of the Advisory Committee on Information and Communications. (As of March 2011)
(0105FCA) (sold separately) recommended by KDDI (*2). In case you are not using the au Carrying Case F Black
(0105FCA) (sold separately), use a product that contains no metal parts, and one that can hold the cell phone at least 1.5 cm away from your body. The World Health Organization has stated that present scientific information does not indicate that use of mobile devices has any harmful effects on the human body. They recommend that if you are still worried about your exposure then you can limit your talk time or use a handsfree kit to keep the cell phone away from your head and body. If you would like to know more detailed information, please refer to the WHO website.

* 1 Technical regulations are defined by the Ministerial Ordinance Related to Radio Law (Article 14-2 of Radio Equipment Regulations).
* 2 Regarding the method of measuring SAR when using cell phones in positions other than against the ear, the international standard IEC62209-2 was set in March 2010. On the other hand, Japanese technical regulation is currently under deliberation by the Committee for Radio A p p e n d x i 68 FCCRFexposureinformation This model phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Communications Commission of the U.S. Government. The guidelines are based on standards that were developed by independent scientific organizations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless handsets employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is 1.6 W/kg. The tests are performed in positions and locations (e.g., at the ear and worn on the body) as required by the FCC for each model. The SAR value for this model handset when tested for use at the ear is XXXX W/kg and when worn on the body, as described in this user guide, is 0.397 W/kg. 0.64 0.46 FCCNotice This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules.
