> On the Spykee end: WiFi access point type network equipment, connected to the Internet 1 Available on the Microsoft website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads) 7
> From wherever you are in the world that you wish to control the robot: Computer with installed console and Internet access.
> High-bandwidth connection on both ends = minimum upload speed of 512 Mbps and download speed of 2 Mbps. II. INITIAL USE 1. INFORMATION ABOUT WIFI 1.1 WiFi RANGE WiFi in theory has a range of several tens of meters. Depending on the environment and the devices used, the range of the reception zone may noticeably vary. If you direct your robot outside of this reception zone, it will no longer be able to be controlled and will automatically stop. 1.2 INTERFERENCE Irregular behavior or a loss of control of the robot may result from interference caused by high tension lines, high-
voltage transformers, certain types of buildings, concrete walls, or narrow spaces in which the WiFi SIGNALS sent by the robot MAY BECOME WEAKENED, which makes reception of a GOOD WIFI SIGNAL DIFFICULT for the robot. If this type of behavior or loss of control is encountered, PLEASE CHANGE THE LOCATION OF THE ROBOT. 1.3 WiFi NETWORK Depending on the condition of the WiFi network, the image may be slowed, and sound and movement may be delayed. This is associated with the WiFi network and is not under the control of the Meccano company. 2. BUILDING YOUR SPYKEE Download the building instructions on www.spykeeworld.com (Installation part). Build the model of your choice following the instructions!
3. INSTALLATING THE CONSOLE Go to the website on www.spykeeworld.com in the Installation part. Download the Windows version of the console (if you have a PC) or the Mac version (if you have a Mac). Note: If you have a PC avec Windows XP SP2 and you dont have .NET framework 2.0, the software will ask Launch the installation of the software of the console. Select your desired language. you to install it1. When the message "Complete" appears, this means that the Spykee console has been installed:
> If you have a PC, the program installs by default onto your hard disk C:/Program Files/Spykee.
> If you have a Mac, the program is installed by default in the Applications directory. A new window opens, and you can choose between:
=> Register now. If you select this option, and you are connected to the Internet, go to point 4. Otherwise, you will be able to register later by going to www.spykeeworld.com under the "To Register heading.
=> Complete the installation 1 Available on the Microsoft website (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads) 8 4. REGISTERING YOUR ROBOT AT www.spykeeworld.com When you register your robot on the website www.spykeeworld.com you will give it a unique name and confidential password which will make it possible to identify it on the network with respect to all other robots found worldwide. Why register?
> Registering your robot allows you to use the remote mode (to connect to a robot remotely, you must identify the robot that you wish to connect to - therefore, this is only possible after you have registered). Registering your robot at www.spykeeworld.com On the Internet, go to www.spykeeworld.com under the "To Register" heading (you will also be offered the option when completing installation of the console), click on Register your Spykee and follow the instructions. The field "My Spykee Robots name", which will be unique, will be the name of your Spykee robot to differentiate it from other robots. The password will be used to authenticate the robot to which you will wish to be connected in remote mode. Take good note and protect the name and password that you select. You will need this later on, particularly to forward information to the robot1. The process of registering your robot will only be valid after having sent the information into your robot. 5. CHARGING SPYKEE FOR THE FIRST TIME Your Spykee robot is delivered without a charge. To play with Spykee, you must recharge it manually (when it is fully discharged, it cannot return to its base automatically). Connect the recharging station to an outlet. Ask an adult for help. Turn the robot's on-off switch to "On" and place your robot manually on its base (the robots back is to the base). Your robot charges in 2h30 hours approximately. Note: The robot will not charge if it is switched Off. 1 2 1 See Chapter II, Section 10.3 " Robot Configuration / My Spykee Tab "
9 6. TURNING SPYKEE ON Turn Spykee on by switching the button under the chassis to the "ON" position. Spykees lights begin to flash rapidly: this means Spykee is searching for his favorite WiFi access point. Since its your 1st use of your robot, you havent chosen yet any new favourite WiFi access point. Spykee will then turn in local adhoc mode automatically (which is his default favourite WiFi mode) after approximately 15 seconds: the robot will make a Beep Beep sound and his lights will blink slowly one after another (to know more about the light statuses of your robot, refer to Chapter VI " LIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THE ROBOT "). If, for some reason, Spykee does not flash, check that the button is actually switched to "ON. If this is the case, then it may be that the battery is drained (see previous section). 7. CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTER TO YOUR ROBOT Lights IN AD HOC LOCAL MODE There are several modes of connection (see Chapter IV "ALL CONNECTION MODES "). Nonetheless, for the first use, it is necessary that you connect in "local ad hoc mode."
What is local ad hoc mode?
=> Local ad hoc mode allows you to connect your computer directly to Spykee via WiFi (see figure below). In local ad hoc mode, the 1st step (before even starting up the console) is to connect your computer to your robot via WiFi. To do this, follow the instructions below: 7.1 if you have a PC and 7.2 if you have a Mac. 7.1 Connecting your PC to your Spykee Robot:
1) 2) Turn on your Spykee and place it within range of your computer's WiFi. Turn on your computer (remember, your computer must have an internal or external WiFi card and the Spykee console installed). 3) Go to your computers wireless network. If you want use the Windows wireless network, click on Start / Networks / Wireless networks or Start / Settings /
Networks / Wireless networks. 10 4) A window will open, displaying a list of all available wireless connections. A WiFi network whose name begins with "Spykee" should appear (this WiFi network name is the SSID for your robot1). Click on it to get connected. CAUTION! If your robot's name is not displayed in the list, this may be due to the following causes:
-
-
-
-
Your computer has not updated its available wireless networks => Click on "refresh network list in the menu to the left of the window. Your robot is turned off => Please turn it on. Your robot has a weak battery => Please recharge the battery2 then repeat the operation. You are in a busy WiFi environment (many surrounding connections, poor network, etc.) = > Please retry the operation in another location. 5) your Computer requests confirmation for the connection, click on OK. 6) Your computer is now connected to your robot's WiFi network. An IP address is assigned to it after a few seconds, then the word "Connected" should appear alongside the network whose name begins by "Spykee."
If Note: You will sometimes need to configure or deactivate your firewall in order to be able to connect to your Spykee. Depending on the firewall, you may find yourself in one of the following situations.
> A window opens and asks for you to authorize the connection => Accept the connection.
> You will sometimes need to completely deactivate your firewall (to do this, refer to your firewall's manual). Note: In local ad hoc mode, your computer can only have a single WiFi connection (here, it is Spykee). This is why you cannot use WiFi Internet at the same time2. To do this, refer to the Chapter II Section 8 " DETAILS OF THE SKYPEE CONSOLE ". 7.2 Connecting your MAC to your Spykee Robot:
7) You can now close the window and start the Spykee console. 1) 2) 4) Turn on your Spykee and place it within range of your computer's WiFi. Turn on your computer (remember, your computer must have an internal or external WiFi card and the Spykee console installed). 3) Display the list of available networks (by clicking on the Airport logo or by going to "System Preferences" /
click on the icon "Network" / select the "Airport" option from the "Display" selection list). Select the one corresponding to your robot (it is the one with the name beginning with "Spykee" / this network name is the SSID for your robot) and click on "Connect. Caution! If your robot's name is not displayed in the list, this may be due to the following causes:

This will make it possible for you to check that you have accurately typed in the same information as you entered at www.spykeeworld.com. Remember: In local adhoc mode you cannot be connected to Spykee and Internet at the same time via WiFi (but it is possible if you connect your computer to Internet through an Ethernet wire)2. Click on OK. This information will then be forwarded to your robot. From then on, your robot will be identified with this new name that will replace its network name by default
(SSID). 1 Section 4 of this Chapter. 2 In local mode via WiFi access point, you can be connected via WiFi to Spykee and Internet at the same time. To know more about the local mode via WiFi access point, please see Chapter III. 16 Now please configure your console and especially your WiFi access point if you have one (see point no. 10). Note: In the "My Spykee" tab, you will also find information about your robot (non-modifiable):
Its serial number or SSID (also found on the label underneath the robot chassis). Its IP address. Its MAC address (also found on the label underneath the robot chassis). 10.4 Robot Configuration / User Accounts Tab To use Spykee, you must have a user account with a username and password. If you are under 18 years of age, do not provide this information to third parties without authorization from your parents. Write down your usernames and passwords accurately, and store them in a secure location so that other people cannot use your robot without your approval. You can change your password at any time on your console in User Accounts tab (just select the username and click on "Edit"). Administrator Account Your robot has an administrator account by default:
Username: admin Password: admin Only the administrator account will allow you to change the configuration of your robot (name and password for your robot, preferred WiFi networks, etc.). The administrator account takes priority over all other user accounts (for example, an administrator connection will disconnect any other remote connection on the same robot). Warning! The password for the administrator account must be customized if you wish to connect remotely in the future via the administrator account. To change the password of your administrator account at any moment, go to "User Accounts" on your console, and click on "Edit" to choose a new password. Other User Accounts You can create multiple user accounts if you like (for example, if you have several people using the same robot) :

ALL CONNECTION MODES 1. CONNECTION MODES There are several ways that you can connect to Spykee:
1.1 LOCAL MODE (WITHIN WiFi RANGE OF SPYKEE) E.g..: You want to control Spykee from home (the computer and Spykee are in the house).
(a) Adhoc Local Mode Your computer connects directly to your Spykee (does not use a WiFi access point). E.g..: You are connecting for the first time or you do not have a WiFi access point. To connect in local adhoc mode, see Chapter II Section 7 CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTER TO YOUR ROBOT IN ADHOC LOCAL MODE. 6
(b) Local Mode with WiFi Access Point. Spykee connects to your WiFi access point which is itself connected to your computer. This mode should be preferred over the local a hoc mode, because it allows your robot to connect by itself and automatically to your WiFi access point from the time you turn it on (all you have to do afterwards is start the console). Moreover, by configuring your WiFi access point, you will also be able to use the remote mode later on. In this case, you can use WiFi Internet at the same time as you play with your robot. E.g.: You want to connect from home, and you have a WiFi access point. To connect in local mode with a WiFi access point, refer to point 2b below, "Connect in Local Mode with a WiFi Access Point. 1.2 REMOTE MODE (FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD) From a computer connected to the Internet, you can connect to a WiFi access point in the vicinity of Spykee, which is connected to your robot. E.g.: You are in New York, and you wish to control Spykee which has remained at your place in Paris. To connect remotely, refer to page xxx. 7 2. CONNECTING 2.1 CONNECT IN LOCAL ADHOC MODE See Chapter II Section 7 CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTER TO YOUR ROBOT IN ADHOC LOCAL MODE. 2.2 CONNECT IN LOCAL MODE WITH WIFI ACCESS POINT
(a) CONFIGURATION OF THE WiFi TAB Please connect to Spykee in local adhoc mode and go to the WiFi tab in the console settings. Enter your WiFi access point:
It is generally easy to configure Spykee to connect via a domestic network using an access point (AP) or a standard WiFi router which is itself connected to a cable or ADSL modem. In this case, just:
> Click on "New. After a few seconds, the list of available WiFi networks will appear.
> Select the name of the WiFi network (SSID) of the WiFi access point to which you wish to connect your robot.
> If the network is secured, you need to fill in the "key" field. The key corresponds to the security key for your access point/WiFi router (called WEP or WPA). If you have never changed your WEP key, you can find it by referring to the information provided by your Internet access provider at the time of your subscription. Warnings!
> Note that your WiFi access point must be in "router" mode (this means that it will allow several devices to be connected to the Internet at the same time). To do this, please refer to the information provided by your Internet service provider.
> If you have a Mac filter on your WiFi access point, you need to enter the Mac number of your robot in the settings of your WiFi access point (or desactivate the Mac filter). To do this, please refer to the information provided by your Internet service provider.
> Some other situations are explained in the FAQ1.
> Other configurations may prove to be more complicated (In this case, we suggest that you make use of existing forums on the Internet. Warning: these forums are not affiliated with the Meccano company and Meccano cannot be held liable for their content). Now that your WiFi access point is configured, Spykee will automatically search for it as soon as it is turned on. It will then connect in local mode with a WiFi access point and make a sound Beep Beep Beep (and no longer in local adhoc mode). 1 Chapter X Help or FAQ heading on the website www.spykeeworld.com 8 Warning! Until you turn Off & On Spykee (or manually change his WiFi network1), it will stay in local adhoc mode. If you want you can now connect in local mode with a WiFi access point :
> To do this, please turn Off & On your Spykee.
> Wait until he makes a Beep beep beep sound and his 4 lights scroll slowly.
> Then follow the instructions of Section (c) of this Chapter.
> If Spykee doesnt make a Beep Beep beep sound and cannot connect to the WiFi access point, please refer to specific situations (bellow). Warning! Do not forget to configure the other tabs once connected again. If you dont want to use this access point (switch to local adhoc mode or change the access point) please refer to specific situations (below).
(b) SPECIFIC SITUATIONS Spykee cannot find the WiFi access point 1) After a few minutes, it will then return automatically to his 2nd favorite WiFi network:
> If it is your first use of Spykee, then the 2nd favorite WiFi network is the local adhoc mode: please wait until you hear the sound Beep beep that indicates that Spykees available in local adhoc mode. Then connect your computer to your robot WiFi network, launch your console and locally connect to Spykee.
> If it is not your fist use and your 2nd is another WiFi access point, please wait until you hear the sound Beep Beep Beep that indicates Spykee is connected to a WiFi access point. Then connect your computer to that WiFi access point, launch your console and connect locally to Spykee. 2) If you want your robot to refresh its search for your WiFi connection, shutdown and restart your robot (or briefly press the reset button on the bottom of the chassis: the robot will then search for the next preferred WiFi network). 3) If Spykee still doesnt find the WiFi access point, please refer to Chapter X HELP. You want to define other WiFi access points E.g.: You have configured the WiFi access point for your home, but you want to configure a friend's WiFi access point as well so that you can use Spykee at your friend's house.
> You must then configure this or these WiFi access point(s) as explained above (click on New, etc). Then you need to define the order of priority for the different WiFi access points:
- Select an access point.
- Click on the "up arrow" button (or the "down arrow") to move the access point higher (or lower) in the list. This icon represents a WiFi access point This icon represents the local adhoc mode. The local adhoc mode is always the last one, you cannot change its place with the arrows. If you have defined different WiFi access points but you want to go back to local adhoc mode, please refer to Chapter IV Section 4 CHANGING LOCAL CONNECTION. Operation of Spykee when one or more access points are entered in When starting up, your robot will check for available access points:
- By default, Spykee will first try to connect to your first favorite access point.
- If he doesnt find the 1st one or doesnt manage to connect to it (bad WEP key for example), then he will try to connect to the 2nd one, then the 3rd one, etc
- In the event that Spykee doesnt manage to connect to any of the access points entered in the robot, it will return to the local adhoc mode (and make a Beep beep sound). If you want your robot to refresh the search for your favorite WiFi access point, shutdown and restart your robot.
- In the event that one or more registered access points are available, it will connect according to the defined priority.
- If you want your robot to connect to an access point other than the first in the order of priority, please refer to Chapter IV Section 4 CHANGING LOCAL CONNECTION. 1 Chapter IV Section 4 CHANGING LOCAL CONNECTION 9 Other situations If you run into any problems, please refer to Chapter X "Help.
(c) Connect in Local Mode with WiFi Access Point 1) You must have previously configured your favorite WiFi access point (see point (a) above). 2) Place your Spykee, within range of your favorite WiFi access point. 3) To connect Spykee to your favorite WiFi access point:
Turn on your Spykee: it will connect automatically as soon as you turn it on. When Spykee is connected, you will hear "Beep Beep Beep!" (this means Spykee is connected to a WiFi access point) and its lights will scroll slowly one after another1. Warning: If you wish to connect to an access point other than your favorite access point, or change the mode of connection, refer to Section 4, "CHANGING LOCAL CONNECTION" in Chapter IV. 4) Connect your computer to the same favorite WiFi access point.
> To do this, turn on your computer (remember, your computer must have an internal or external WiFi card and the Spykee console installed).
> Connect your computer to your favorite WiFi access point:
- If you have a PC go to Start / Connections / Wireless connections. Select your WiFi access point and connect to it.
- If you have a Mac, display the list of available networks (by clicking on the Airport logo) and connect your computer to your favorite WiFi access point.
> Note: Alternatively, you may also connect your computer to the WiFi access point using an Ethernet cable. Start the Spykee console. The Connection window will open automatically. Select the Robot from the list "Local Robots" (it should display automatically / it may take up to 30 seconds). Enter your username and password.
> When Spykee connects, you will hear "Gling! Gling! Gling!" and its lights will flash. The image will be displayed on the console.
> If you cannot connect, make sure that you have correctly configured your WiFi access point in router mode2. 9) You can now move on to the "Playing with Spykee," section page xxx. 5) 6) 7) 8) 1 Chapter VI, LIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THE ROBOT 2 This Chapter Section 2.2 point (a) CONFIGURATION OF THE WiFi TAB. 10 2.3 CONNECT IN REMOTE MODE
(a) Warnings Remote mode will offer lower performance than local mode (depending on the quality of the Internet connection from end to end). Not all Spykee functions are available in remote mode1.
(b) Previous settings Warning! Before setting the tab Distant connection :
You must have registered your robot on www.spykeeworld.com2 and entered the name and password for the robot in the console ("My Spykee" tab3) to enable future remote connections. You need to have entered a WiFi access point in the WiFi tab. You cannot connect remotely with the administrator account if the default password "admin" has not been changed (in the User accounts tab, choose another customized password for the administrator account or create another user account).
(c) Settings of the Distant connection tab If in the future you want to use your robot remotely, it is necessary to complete this part. Check "Allow Remote Connection."
Most WiFi access point allow to connect remotely without having to use Port Forwarding. On some devices though (e.g.: Livebox Inventel), it is necessary. If your WiFi access point requires it or if you have tried to connect remotely without success, please report to the next point c). When operating remotely, the image feed may be slower:
Select the desired image quality: the flow of the video image will be slower for a good quality image and conversely, quicker for a lower quality image.
(d) The port forwarding Some WiFi access points require that you select a specific port to the communication between your access point and your robot to succeed connecting remotely (if not, remotely, your WiFi access point wouldnt manage to localize your Spykee). You may also use port forwarding for other devices which do not necessarily require it: it is a way of ensuring the success of your future remote connections. Step 1 : If possible, please give a permanent IP adress to your robot. Why give a permanent IP address?
Your WiFi access point gives an IP adress to your Spykee each time he gets connected. Most of the times, he will always give the same address to your robot, but in case the WiFi access point reboots (e.g. power cut), there is a risk he might give another IP address. To use the port forwarding, you need to enter the IP address of your Spykee. Thats why if possible, it is better that you choose to give your Spykee a permanent IP address. This is not mandatory but recommended. 1 To view the list of available functions depending on the type of connection, please refer to the table in Section 3 below. 2 Chapter II Section 4 REGISTER YOUR ROBOT AT http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK 3 Chapter II Section 10.3 Robot Configuration / My Spykee Tab 11 E.g. : Spykee is connected to your WiFi access point which has given him an IP address. You have used a portforwarding on this IP address. If there is a power cut while you are away, when electricity comes back, your WiFi access point might give another IP address to your robot. In this case (which is quite uncommon though), if you try to connect remotely you wont succeed. How do I proceed if I dont want or if I cant give a permanent IP adress?
On some WiFi access points you cannot give a permanent IP adress to any of your devices. Please refer to the instruction manual of your WiFi access point. In this case write down the IP address (non permanent) of the tab My Spykee while connected in local mode with WiFi access point and go directly to step 2. Some WiFi access points dont provide any free IP address: in this case please contact him. How do I give a permanent IP address to my robot?
In the setting of your WiFi access point, go to the DHCP server part, activate it and check the IP addresses that are available (most often you have many IP addresses that are free, only the final numbers change). Give a permanent IP address to your robot: Enter his Mac number (under the robots chassis or in the My Spykee tab) and choose one of the free IP addresses. From now on, each time your WiFi access point will recognize the Mac address of your robot and give him the permanent IP address you have chosen. Step 2: Realize the portforwarding on your WiFi access point. In the settings of your WiFi access point, go to the Router part (also called NAT or Portforwarding.
> Choose the name of the equipment for which you want to forward a port : here it is your robot (e.g. Spykee)
> Choose the TCP protocol.
> Insert the entry port: it is any number except 9000 or 9001, e.g. 12321 . Insert the same number as exit port.
> Insert the IP adress of your robot :
- If you have chosen a permanent IP address, please insert it.
- If you havent please insert the IP address that you have checked in the tab My Spykee
> Confirm and quit the settings of your WiFi access point Step 3: Realize the portforwarding on your Spykee console.
> Please connect to Spykee in local mode through the same WiFi access point you have just configured.
> Check the IP address in the My Spykee tab is the same one as the one you entered in your WiFi access point settings.
> In the Remote connection tab, please click on Use forwarding on port and insert the number of the port you have configured in your device (e.g. 12321).
> Click on OK.
> The remote connection is now possible.
(e) Connect in remote mode 1) On the robots side, you must have completed successfully the following steps :
12
> You must leave your Spykee robot turned on, connected to a WiFi access point which has been added to the "WiFi" tab in the robot configuration part of your console1.
> We strongly recommend you to test that your Spykee works correctly in local mode with this WiFi access point2 before trying to connect remotely. Be careful especially to have entered the correct WEP or WPA key (if your WiFi access point requires it)
> Check your Spykee console has been correctly configured:
- You must have registered your robot on www.spykeeworld.com and reported his name and password on the My Spykee tab3.
- To connect remotely you will not be allowed to use the default password of the administrator user admin . You must have changed the administrator password or created a new user account4.
- On your Spykee console, you must have configured correctly the Remote connection tab5.
> Once your Spykee console is correctly settled, you can close it and shut down your computer as your robot is directly connected to your WiFi access point.
> Leave your Spykee on his recharging base (switched ON) to avoid his battery to get low. 2) On remote side, please proceed to the following steps :
> Install the Spykee console on the remote computer.
> Connect the remote computer to the Internet.
> You might need to unable the firewalls to make to remote connection work. Warning! Remote connection might not be possible from many professional networks (as firewalls and security level do not allow it). Please try again from a non professional network.
> You can now launch the Spykee console. It is possible, depending on your firewall, that a window opens and ask you if you allow spykee.exe to connect to the Internet: please click OK.
> The Connection window will open automatically:
- Check "Remote Robot" then fill in the field bellow with the remote robots name This name corresponds to the name provided in Spykeeworld.com during registration.
- In the "Authentication" window, provide the username and password for the user account that you want to use to connect to the robot (Chapter II Section 10.4 Robot configuration / User Accounts Tab). Warning! Do not get confused between robots name and password and user accounts name and password. Warning ! If you havent modified the default administrator password admin , you will not be able to realize the remote connection.
- Wait while connection icon of the console is orange (searching for the robot). If the remote robot is available and the username and password are correct, the connection will be made and the icon will switch to green. 3) You are connected! The image from the Spykee Webcam will be displayed on the screen of the console. The quality of the image will depend on what you have chosen when configuring the Remote connection tab on your console (Good quality or Low quality). Please note settings of your console can only be done by the administrator account and only in local mode. 4) You are connected!
Warning! If the image does not display, or the robot icon remains orange, please refer to the "Help" section

E.g. 2: You are connected to a WiFi access point and you want to switch to local ad hoc mode. How to connect Spykee to another WiFi access point or return to local adhoc mode 1) When you turn it on, Spykee will automatically search for the available access points, and will connect to the first access point for which it has been configured according to the preference list defined in the "WiFi" tab. 2) If Spykee detects multiple available access points for which it has been configured, to connect Spykee to your second preferred access point:
=> Using a pen, press the reset button which is found under the chassis of your robot for 1 second2. Spykee will emit a "Beep.
=> Spykee will then try to connect to your second preferred access point.
=> You will see that Spykee is searching for this new network because its red and green lights will flash quickly successively from left to right3.
=> Once connected to this new network, Spykee will emit a sound (Beep Beep if the WiFi network is the local adhoc mode or Beep Beep Beep if the WiFi network is a WiFi access point) and scroll slowly the 4 lights. You can now start the Spykee console. 3) To connect Spykee to your 3rd preferred WiFi access point:
Repeat the operation above (2) as required to connect to the 4th, 5th, etc. preferred networks. 4) To switch to local ad hoc mode:

V. RECHARGING SPYKEE 1. CHARGING BASE Connect the recharging station to an outlet. Ask an adult for help. Place the station against a wall. To avoid the base moving while Spykee tries to connect to it, we recommend that you fix it on the floor with double faced tape (be careful to choose a tape that doesnt damages your floor). Make sure that the space in front of the recharging station is sufficiently free of clutter so that Spykee can reach it easily. 2. AUTOMATIC SEARCH FOR THE BASE In order for Spykee to be able to recharge itself alone, bring it manually to within 1 to 2 meters of the recharging station (if it is too close, it will have a hard time positioning itself). There are two ways of triggering the search for the station:
> Click on the battery icon of your console => A window will appear asking if you wish to recharge a robot.
> When the battery is low, Spykee will automatically send you a message to your console: a window will appear asking you if you wish to recharge a robot. If you click "Yes", the robot will begin to search for its recharging station by itself. This operation may take several minutes while the robot finds its station using infrared. When it finds its station, the robot moves towards it and positions itself on it automatically. If the robot does not find its station, again place it manually within 1 or 2 meters of the station and repeat the operation. Recharge: please refer to the "Recharge" section bellow. 2 3 3. MANUALLY PLACE SPYKEE ON THE BASE If you do not want to/cannot perform an automatic search for the station, you can also manually place Spykee on its recharging station. E.g.: You are using it for the first time (the battery is not charged at time of purchase), or the automatic search for the station did not work. To do this, turn the robot on (the robot will charge only if the button under the chassis is ON). Place it manually on its recharging station (Spykee will be with its back to the base). It will begin to recharge automatically. 2 1 1 1 4. RECHARGE Warning! While recharging, all Spykee functions are deactivated. The battery will take 2 1/2 hours to recharge. Instead of the video image, an image will indicate to you that the robot is recharging ("Recharging..."). When the battery is charged, the charge indicator on the Spykee console will be completely green. Additionally, the image on the screen will show "Battery Full. To reactivate your robot at any time, click on the green button on the right of the screen. 2 VI. In order to improve your robot's operation, updates to its internal software (or "firmware") may be offered. It is highly recommended that these updates be installed. When you are connected to Internet and to your Spykee robot with the administrator account at the same time, a message might inform you of the availability of firmware update (if there has been a new firmware release). By clicking on "Yes" you will be able to download a file containing firmware update. To install this update, click on the "Configuration" icon of your Spykee console, then select the "Firmware" tab in the configuration part of the robot. Click on OK and wait for the loading to complete. If you ever need to update the firmware, click on "Load" and select the new firmware file. Caution! IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU NOT DISCONNECT OR TURN OFF THE ROBOT WHEN LOADING FIRMWARE!
The loaded software could be incomplete and make your robot unusable. If this ever should occur, please send the robot in its box, complete with CD and manual to After Sales Service
(address at the end of the manual). During the update, all of Spykee's lights will flash quickly. VIII. RESET The Reset button is found under the chassis of your Spykee (Chapter I Section 1 INTRODUCTION). This allows you to:
> Change the local connection mode by quickly pressing it with a pen1.
> Restart your robot and return it to its initial configuration (as it was when you purchased your robot) by pressing it with a pen for more than 10 seconds. In this case, all SPYKEE lights will flash quickly all at the same time. 1 Chapter IV Section 4 CHANGING LOCAL CONNECTION"

Spykee cannot connect to the local WiFi access point Check the battery status. If it is too weak, Spykee will have a hard time connecting. Make sure that your WiFi access point is turned on and operating correctly (e.g. connect to the Internet through your WiFi access point: if it works, then your WiFi access point works correctly). Check the settings of your WiFi access point :
> If you dont know how to change the settings of your WiFi access point, please refer to the instructions of your WiFi access point (normally you can change the settings on a web page given by your Internet provider)
> Check your WiFi access point is in router mode. If your WiFi connection was provided to you by your Internet service provider at the same time as your ADSL or cable modem (NeufBox WiFi, Freebox WiFi, LiveBox Wanadoo etc.), it probably wont be in router mode. In effect, most Internet service providers limit the ability to connect multiple devices via WiFi. You must then switch your WiFi access point to the "router" mode. To do this, please refer to the WiFi access point user guide. If you are unable to switch your WiFi access point to router mode by yourself, please contact your Internet service provider to find out how the WiFi connection that was provided to you has been configured.
> Check that a Mac filter is not active. If it is, then you need either to authorize the Mac number of your robot
(written under its chassis or in the tab My Spykee of the console) or either disable the Mac filter.
> If you have a secured WiFi network, please check you have entered the correct WEP or WPA on the Spykee console. You can also disable the security WEP or WAP key in the settings of your WiFi access point. If you have just entered a new WiFi access point on your Spykee console and cant connect to it, please wait 30 minutes and try again. You are using a company WiFi network. It is possible that the network administrator has created special configurations (assignment of IP addresses, proxy server, etc.). If you cant connect your Spykee by yourself, you should probably ask for assistance from your network administrator. In certain networks, this connection will not be possible. In a busy environment (many WiFi networks or a poor network), it is possible that it will be difficult or even impossible to establish a connection. 6 I cant connect to Spykee in remote mode. It is strongly recommended to simulate a distant connection (Chapter VI Section 2.3 CONNECT IN REMOTE MODE) before really trying to connect from a remote place. This way you will be able to deal with possible configuration problems on the robot or on your WiFi access point. If you have simulated a remote connection from home and even though you cant control remotely your robot, the problem is probably on the remote computers side. Please find bellow a check-list of the operations you need to realize to make the remote connection works :
On robot side :
Spykee is turned On.
Spykee is charged and placed on its recharging base.
Spykee is correctly connected to a WiFi access point that has been successfully added to the WiFi tab on your console.
> The robot has made a "Beep Beep Beep" sound when you started it (if he has made a "Beep beep" sound then it means he is in local adhoc mode and then not connected to your WiFi access point).
> You have tested everything worked correctly in local mode with this WiFi access point.
> For any problem about Spykee getting connected to a WiFi access point, please check the FAQ about the local mode with WiFi access point.
We have successfully registered your robot on http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK and reported this information on your Spykee console in the tag "My Spykee".
> If you are connected to the Internet and to Spykee at the same time, in the tag "My Spykee", click on "Verify" to validate the information you have reported are the same as the one registered on http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK
> Warning! When you register on http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK, it can take up to 10 minutes to really save the information in our database. This can explain the fact that a distant connexion doesn't work right after registering or that you have a mistake message while clicking on "Verify" whereas you have entered the correct information. Please try again after 10 minutes.
> If you have forgotten the information you entered on http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK, check the confirmation email you had received when you registered. If you don't have this email anymore, it can be sent again by clicking on "Forgot your password?" in the "To Register" page of http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK
In the tag "User accounts" of the console, you have customized the administrator password (the password "admin"
doesn't allow remote connection) or created a new user account.
In the tag "Remote connection" of your console, you have clicked on "Allow remote connection".
If you still can't connect remotely to your robot, you might be in a network configuration that blocks remote connections. In this case please realize a port-forwarding operation (see Chapter IV Section 2.3 CONNECT IN REMOTE MODE). On remote computer side :
The Spykee console has been installed successfully.
The remote computer via WiFi). To be sure of it, try to connect to any web page (e.g. type http://atsui.pair.com/spykee/devsw/UK in the adress bar of your Internet explorer). If the web page appears correctly, it means your computer is connected to the Internet. Ethernet wire or is connected
(via an Internet the to
If a window has opened and asked the authorization for spykee.exe to connect to the Internet, please say Yes.
If distant connection doesn't work, please unable your firewalls.
If you are trying a remote connection from a professional network, firewalls light block your connection and you will not be able to unable it. In this case please contact the network administrator of your company. Sometimes though it will be impossible to connect to Spykee through a professional network (in this case please try from a residential network).
If you are trying a remote connection from a public network (or "Hot spot"), the access might be blocked and you won't be able to get connected. This is not of Meccano's resort, but linked to the WiFi network confuiguration. 7 The screen has gone black. Check the battery status. If it is too weak, Spykee will have a hard time connecting. In a busy environment (many connections or a poor network), it is possible that it will be difficult or even impossible to establish a connection. When I press on a button, it takes a long time for the action to occur or it does not occur at all. Check the battery status. Close any programs on your computer that you are not using. Place your Spykee within WiFi range. The video surveillance alarm doesnt work. Make sure that the volume is turned on (on the console and on your computer). Make sure that you have configured this function1. This function is only available in local mode. Make sure that these selections are actually in the Playlist. Make sure that the volume on the console and on your computer are sufficiently high and are not on "mute. Spykee can only read mp3 files under 8Mo. I cant play digital music. The lights dont turn on. Check the battery status. One or more diodes may be damaged. Make sure that the light tubes are correctly inserted. How do I find the SMTP server?
The SMTP server is provided by your e-mail address provider (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.). For example, for an address @yahoo.fr, this is smtp.mail.yahoo.fr.
