BATTERYSAFETYINFORMATION TheRoadwayWorkerProtectionSystemcontainsachargeranda PersonnelModulewithrechargeablebatteries.Thebatteriesshould neverberemovedfromthePersonnelModuleexceptbyMetromRail personnel.Chargingofthebatteriesistobedoneexclusivelyinthe providedchargingstation. Usethedockingstationwiththeprovidedwalladapteronly. ReplacementscanbeorderedthroughMetromRail.Otheradapters P a g e |3 havenotbeenapprovedbyMetromRail,LLCortheFCCandare thereforenotrecommendedforuseandmaycausedamagetothe equipment. Theradiowillturnoffautomaticallywhenplacedinthedocking station. Thechargershouldbeusedonlyindrylocationsandcondition. Chargerisdesignedtooperatewithastandard110VACoutlet. Ambientchargingtemperaturebetween0Cand40C(32Fand 104F). Poweroutputfromthepowersupplyunitmustnotexceedthe ratingsstatedontheproductlabellocatedatthebottomofthe charger. Toreducetheriskofdamagetotheplugandcord,pullbythe plugratherthecordwhendisconnecting. Toreducetheriskoffire,electricshockorinjury,donot operatethechargerifdamagedinanyway. Donotdisassemblethecharger.Thismayresultintheriskof electricalshockorfire. Chargingwillautomaticallyceaseoncebatteryischarged. PersonnelModule DockingStation TrainHardware TheRWPSsystemwirelesslycommunicateslocationandspeed informationbetweenworkersandtrainoperatorsallowingforanother levelofsafety.Itincludesalarmingsothatworkersknowwhento vacatethetracksandthetrainoperatorsknowworkersarepresentand iftheyareawarethatatrainisapproaching.Thesystemisdesignedto beeasytouseandtominimizethenumberofnuisancealarmssothat alarmingismeaningfulandrespected.Alldevicesaredesignedtomeet railstandardsfordurability. HARDWAREOVERVIEW INTRODUCTION ThankyouforchoosingtheMetromRailRoadwayWorkerProtection System(RWPS).Thissystemisdesignedtoprovideadvancedwarningto workerswithsimultaneousvisual,tactile,andauditoryalerts. Equipmentoperatorsreceiveanaudiblealertalongwithinformation detailingthenumberofworkers,distance,andconfirmationstatus. Note: Readthisoperationsmanualcarefullytoensureyouknowhow toproperlyoperatethesystembeforeuse. PersonnelModule TheworkersareequippedwithPersonnelModules.ThePersonnel ModuleprovidesprotectionforanyworkerinthevicinityofRWPS equippedtrains.ThemoduledeploysamulticolorLEDbeacon,a speaker,andvibrationeffectstoalertaworkerwhenanequippedtrain iswithinacertaindistanceortimetoarrival.Theconfirmationbuttonis usedtosilencealarmsandtherebysendtheconfirmationtothetrain operator.Themoduleistobeclippedontoeitherbelt,vest,orcoatwith theMetromRaillogofacingoutwardfromthebody. TrainHardware ThetrainhardwareincludesaControlModule,CabModule,and Communicationantenna.Ifthetraintravelsintwodirections,dual systemswouldneedtobeinstalledonbothsidesofthetrainand containallhardwaretypes. TheCommunicationsAntennaisanexternal,weatherproof,directional, longrangeantennathatfacilitatesthetransferofinformationbetween trainandworkers.Itismountedonthefrontroofofatrain. CabModule ThetrainoperatorinterfaceswiththeCabModule.TheCabModule servesasaninterfacethatalertstheoperatortothepresenceofnearby workers.Themoduleprovidesrealtimeinformationonworkerid, distance,quantity,aswellaswhethertheworkerhasconfirmedthe alarm.TheCabModulealarmsaudiblyandvisuallywiththeilluminated buttononcealarmingrulesaremet.Thetrainoperatorcanquietthe alarmbypressingtheilluminatedconfirmationbutton.Dualcab modulesmaybeconfiguredifneededformultipletrainoperators. Whencustomerspecifiedthresholdsaremet,thecabmodulewill soundatone,changetheindicatorlighttoblue,anddisplaythestatus ofeachworker.Acheckmarkindicatesthattheworkerhasconfirmed thealarmontheirmodule. ControlModule TheControlModuleservesasthedatacontrolandintelligencecenterof thetrainsystem.TheControlModulecanbeinstalledanywhereinside thetrain/vehicle,preferablyinalocationwhichminimizesthecoaxial cabledistancetotheantenna.Themoduleincludesallportsaswellas diagnostics. Forsubsequentpowerups,holdthebuttonfor3secondsandrelease. Oncepowered,ablinkinggreenlightindicatesthatthedeviceis operatingproperly.Themoduleisabletoconveydiagnosticstatus throughtheLEDandspeaker. Toturnoffthepersonnelmodule,holdtheconfirmationbuttonfor10 secondsuntiltheLEDturnsmagentaandthenrelease. Tochargethebattery,placethePersonnelModuleinto thechargersothattheclipisabovethedockingstation USBport.TheLEDonthedockingstationwillcommunicate thestatusofcharging.Chargingstopswhencomplete. ThebatteryonthePersonnelModuleisdesignedtoworkfor48hours ononechargeundernormalconditions. LOGGING AllRoadwayWorkerProtectionSystemmodulesdeployGPSaided eventrecordingwhenoperatinginthefield.Eventrecordingcan provideinsightintothelocationofworkgangsandcanbeusedasan auditingtoolorasameanstorecreateeventsretroactively.Logging maybeenabledordisabled. RefertotheMetromRailConfigurationManualformoreinformationon logging. MetromRailrecommendschargingthePersonnelModulesinthe dockingstationwhennotinuse. Forafullydepletedbattery,chargingwilltakeamaximumof7hours. Useonlythewalladapterprovidedwiththedockingstation. USINGTHECABMODULE Oncetheequipmentissuccessfullyinstalledintothetrain,thesystem workswithminimalhumaninteraction.Intheeventthatworkersare presentonthetrack,analarmandinformationwouldbeissued.To quietthealarm,theoperatorwouldonlyneedtohittheconfirmation buttonontheCabModuleandfollowFRAguidelinesforaworkzone. Inthecaseofanerror,theControlModulecontainsLEDandan alphanumericcharactertoquicklyassessthesituationtogetitresolved. ThedevicecontainsLEDfeedbackforinputpower,systempower, systemstatus,aswellaserrorswiththecabmodules. Foradditionalinformation,thealphanumericdisplaycontainsanarray oferrorcodes.TheseshouldbecommunicatedtoMetromRailinthe eventthatanissueoccurs.
