patible cell phone using Bluetooth radio communication technology. Before you can use the hands free phone kit, a compatible cell phone must undergo a one-time initial pairing process to the hands free phone kit using Bluetooth wireless technology page 3. After the initial pairing process, the connection between the hands free phone kit and a recognized (pre-
viously paired) cell phone is automatically established when the ignition is switched on. If the cell phone is connected to the hands free phone kit, the following applies:
The cell phone is connected to the microphone near the front interior light. Calls are routed over the vehicle loudspeakers, during which time the factory-installed radio / radio-
navigation system is muted. Telephone calls can be answered, rejected or ended using the telephone button on the multi-function
. This function is available only when the ignition is switched on or when the steering wheel ignition key is inserted in the ignition lock and the radio or radio-navigation system is switched on. A telephone call is transferred to the cell phone if you remove the ignition key from the ignition lock while a call is in progress. On cell phones that support the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), the music stored in the cell phone can be played back over a suitable radio or radio-navigation system page 7. Radio or radio-navigation system The radio or radio-navigation system will automatically switch on if it is turned off when the phone kit is in use. During an incoming or outgoing call, the radio or radio-navigation system is automatically muted so that unnecessary noise does not interfere with the call. Navigation directions will continue to be given during a telephone call. Call Volume You adjust the volume of the call with the radio volume control or by using the volume control on the multi-function steering wheel. It is not necessary to make any adjustments buttons on the cell phone. During a call, the volume control adjusts only the volume of the call, and does not af-

Never let yourself be distracted by setting, adjusting or using the cellular phone or CB radio. Use the cellular phone or CB radio only if road, traffic and weather conditions permit and you will not be distracted from your driving. Always set volume levels so that you can clearly hear horns, sirens and other warning sounds outside the vehicle. In areas with no or inadequate cellular phone network service and occasionally in tunnels, garages and underpasses as well, a telephone call cannot be put through no emergency calls either!
Using a cell phone or CB radios inside the vehicle without having a separate outside antenna can be dangerous to your health and that of your passengers because the electro-
magnetic radiation energy that these devices emit may be above established limits. Always switch off completely cellular phones or CB radios while refueling. The electromag-

cess only has to be performed once. Please note: The pairing process via Bluetooth can only be carried out when the ignition is switched on and the vehicle is not moving. The cell phone and hands free phone kit recognize each other automatically after authentication of the Bluetooth connection (password entry). Up to seven different Bluetooth enabled cell phones can be stored as recognized in the vehicle hands free phone kit. If an additional device is linked to the hands free phone kit, authentication to the device that has not been used for the longest period of time is automat-
ically. Note The pairing process as well as Bluetooth settings in the hands free phone kit are only available when the vehicle is not moving. Some Bluetooth devices or adapters can be configured so that they connect automatically to the hands free phone kit. To help prevent interference during the linking process, we recommend switching off any Bluetooth devices and adapters that are not required during the pairing process. When establishing a connection automatically through Bluetooth, the hands free phone kit looks for recognized devices within its operating range. If there should be several previously recognized cell phones within Bluetooth range, the device last connected is given priority. It does not necessarily have to be the cell phone in the cradle for the recognition and connection to occur. Connecting a cell phone to a hands free phone kit makes the hands free phone kit invisible to other Bluetooth devices, i.e. other cell phones cannot be paired or connected to it. On most cell phones a setting for the Bluetooth devices VW UHV must be made to enable automatic reconnection. Ensure the Bluetooth Authorization required setting on your cell phone is set to NO in order to allow automatic reconnection. Please refer to the User's Guide of your cell phone manufacturer. When Bluetooth devices have been paired or have gotten to know each other once, the Bluetooth setting Visible to All is no longer needed. The phone kit in your vehicle switches its visibility off after the linking process. For privacy reasons, you should also deactivate the visibility of your cell phone as appropriate. reo audio signal. Starting music playback via Bluetooth Audio The cell phone must be paired with the hands free phone kit page 4 to start Bluetooth Audio. Select the music playback program on the cell phone (e.g. Playback via headset or Playback via Bluetooth). Please refer to the Users Guide for your cell phone for instructions as to how to select the music playback program. Select the device VW UHV. Select the media menu by pressing the Media button on the radio or radio-navigation system. Music playback will start. Ending music playback via Bluetooth Audio Stop playback from the music playback program in your cell phone. Approved radios and radio-navigation systems Bluetooth Audio is only possible with certain Volkswagen radios or Volkswagen navigation systems. Ask your Volkswagen dealership which products are compatible. Operation during music playback via Bluetooth Audio You adjust the sound and switch to other audio sources using the radio or radio-navigation system. You select the music track and fast forward or rewind using the buttons on the cell phone. Please read the Users Guide for your mobile cell phone for more information. Making telephone calls during music playback via Bluetooth Audio All telephone functions are available during music playback via Bluetooth Audio. The music is muted while you make a telephone call. Pairing Bluetooth-capable audio device If you want to pair a Bluetooth-capable audio device (e.g. MP3 player) in addition to the cell phone with the optional hands free phone kit in your vehicle, please observe the following:
Disconnect the active Bluetooth connections between the paired cell phone and the hands free phone kit. Pair the Bluetooth-capable audio device with hands free phone kit, page 4 or manufacturer's Users Guide. If your cell phone has been disconnected from the hands free phone kit, you can reconnect it using the option Reconnect. Note It may take up to 70 seconds before the music playback starts via Bluetooth Audio. It is possible to adjust the volume on the phone with some cell phones. Current scientific literature indi-
cates that radio waves that exceed a certain level can have effects on the human body. Limits and guide-
lines have been established by governmental authorities and international committees in an effort to keep the electromagnetic radiation from cellular phones at levels that will not cause health problems. However, ast this time there no scientific proof that wireless phones are absolutely safe. Therefore some experts recommend a precautionary approach regarding the use of cellular phones by taking measures that lower the personal exposure to electromagnetic fields. When using a cell phone inside a motor vehicle without a proper connection to an integrated vehicle tele-
phone antenna the personal exposure to electromagnetic fields will be higher than when using the cell phone while being properly connected to an integrated or other outside vehicle telephone antenna. Your vehicle may be equipped with an optional hands-free system that will permit many of the features of a compatible Bluetooth enabled cell phones to be used for greater convenience and consistent with the laws of an increasing number of states and localities that prohibit the use of cell phones without some kind of hands-free device. The hands-free system in your vehicle can be used with certain cell phones that are connected by wire and hardware connector or via compatible Bluetooth enabled phones with a cradle that is designed to fit your cell phone in the special cradle offers several advantages: Your phone is firmly attached to the instrument panel and is within reach at all times. Placing the phone in its cradle permits it to be charged, but more importantly connects the cellular phone to the vehicle's outside antenna.
