Commercial Warranty Limited Warranty MOTOROLA COMMUNICATION PRODUCTS I. What This Warranty Covers And For How Long MOTOROLA INC. (MOTOROLA) warrants the MOTOROLA manufactured Communication Products listed below (Product) against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of time from the date of purchase as scheduled below:

(with a new or reconditioned Product), or refund the purchase price of the Product during the warranty period provided it is returned in accordance with the terms of this warranty. Replaced parts or boards are warranted for the balance of the original applicable warranty period. All replaced parts of Product shall become the property of MOTOROLA. This express limited warranty is extended by MOTOROLA to the original end user purchaser only and is not assignable or transferable to any other party. This is the complete warranty for the Product manufactured by MOTOROLA. MOTOROLA assumes no obligations or liability for additions or modifications to this warranty unless made in writing and signed by an officer of MOTOROLA. Unless made in a separate agreement between MOTOROLA and the original end user purchaser, MOTOROLA does not warrant the installation, maintenance or service of the Product. MOTOROLA cannot be responsible in any way for any ancillary equipment not furnished by MOTOROLA which is attached to or used in connection with the Product, or for operation of the Product with any ancillary equip-
ment, and all such equipment is expressly excluded from this warranty. Because each system which may use the Product is unique, MOTOROLA disclaims liability for range, coverage, or operation of the system as a whole under this warranty. II. General Provisions This warranty sets forth the full extent of MOTOROLAs responsibilities regarding the Product. Repair, replace-

How To Get Warranty Service You must provide proof of purchase (bearing the date of purchase and Product item serial number) in order to receive warranty service and, also, deliver or send the Product item, transportation and insurance prepaid, to an authorized warranty service location. Warranty service will be provided by Motorola through one of its authorized warranty service locations. If you first contact the company which sold you the Product, it can facilitate your obtaining warranty service. You can also call Motorola at 1-888-567-7347 US/Canada. V. What This Warranty Does Not Cover A. Defects or damage resulting from use of the Product in other than its normal and customary manner. B. Defects or damage from misuse, accident, water, or neglect. C. Defects or damage from improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, alteration, mod-
ification, or adjustment. D. Breakage or damage to antennas unless caused directly by defects in material workmanship. E. A Product subjected to unauthorized Product modifications, disassemblies or repairs (including, without limitation, the addition to the Product of non-Motorola supplied equipment) which adversely affect performance of the Product or interfere with Motorolas normal warranty inspection and testing of the Product to verify any warranty claim. F. Product which has had the serial number removed or made illegible. G. Rechargeable batteries if:
any of the seals on the battery enclosure of cells are broken or show evidence of tampering.
the damage or defect is caused by charging or using the battery in equipment or service other than the Product for which it is specified. H. Freight costs to the repair depot. I. A Product which, due to illegal or unauthorized alteration of the software/firmware in the Product, does not function in accordance with MOTOROLAs published specifications or the FCC type acceptance labeling in effect for the Product at the time the Product was initially distributed from MOTOROLA. J. Scratches or other cosmetic damage to Product surfaces that does not affect the operation of the Product. K. Normal and customary wear and tear. VI. Patent And Software Provisions MOTOROLA will defend, at its own expense, any suit brought against the end user purchaser to the extent that it is based on a claim that the Product or parts infringe a United States patent, and MOTOROLA will pay those costs and damages finally awarded against the end user purchaser in any such suit which are attributable to any such claim, but such defense and payments are conditioned on the following:
A. that MOTOROLA will be notified promptly in writing by such purchaser of any notice of such claim;
B. that MOTOROLA will have sole control of the defense of such suit and all negotiations for its settlement or compromise; and C. should the Product or parts become, or in MOTOROLAs opinion be likely to become, the sub-
ject of a claim of infringement of a United States patent, that such purchaser will permit MOTOROLA, at its option and expense, either to procure for such purchaser the right to con-
tinue using the Product or parts or to replace or modify the same so that it becomes nonin-
fringing or to grant such purchaser a credit for the Product or parts as depreciated and accept its return. The depreciation will be an equal amount per year over the lifetime of the Product or parts as established by MOTOROLA. MOTOROLA will have no liability with respect to any claim of patent infringement which is based upon the com-
bination of the Product or parts furnished hereunder with software, apparatus or devices not furnished by MOTOROLA, nor will MOTOROLA have any liability for the use of ancillary equipment or software not furnished by MOTOROLA which is attached to or used in connection with the Product. bility of MOTOROLA with respect to infringement of patents by the Product or any parts thereof. Its unique functionality and features make this state-of-the-art rugged Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) superior for use in a wide range of applications. This manual covers the basic setup operations and use of the X-Pad termi-
nal. Since your X-Pad applications are designed by your company or orga-
nization, this manual does not cover any of the software applications resident in your X-Pad. For software applications description, refer to the specific application manual or contact your company or organization repre-
sentative for instructions. The X-Pad uses a Universal Office Dock (UOD) unit for power charge and wire communication. Note that this manual briefly mentions the UOD. For detailed installation and operation of the UOD, refer to UOD User Manual, Motorola P.N. 98-08901C59. 1 What is the X-Pad Terminal The X-Pad handheld data terminal is a rugged device, designed for field applications where fast data acquisition is required. The X-Pad carries the functionality of a state-of-the-art Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) that enables portable access to mobile applications, such as mobile messaging, queries and Computer Aided Dispatch. It contains a variety of options, including built-in CMOS imager for barcode labels and image capture, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi LAN (Local Area Network) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) wireless radios, all with internal antennas for increased ruggedization. The 3.5 color touch screen with illumination enables easy access to vari-
ous applications and signature capture in all light conditions. The IrDA port serves for data exchange between the X-Pad and data network using the Universal Office Dock (UOD) unit. The PocketPC 2003-based operating system supports multimedia and audio applications, using a built-in microphone, speaker and buzzer. A removable CompactFlash (accessed only by service) is used for memory expansion and operating system updates. The X-Pad is powered by a 7.2V 1800 mAh Lithium-Ion battery pack that supports 12 hours of typical operation. The battery is fully recharged within three hours, using the UOD unit. 2 Unpacking The X-Pad package includes the following items:

Check all items for shipping damage, and check that you have received all items ordered. If there is damage or missing items, keep the shipping carton packaging for inspection. Note: Retain the original carton packaging in the event that the X-Pad should need to be returned for service. The battery is shipped from factory uncharged and not installed. Charge the battery fully for 24 hours before using the X-Pad for the first time (see First Time Battery Charge on page 8). The X-Pad is shipped with a plastic film, protecting the screen. Before usage, remove the film and use a soft cloth to buff the display. This ensures smooth gliding of the Stylus pen over the surface. 3 X-Pad Parts Navigation Key Panel

(see page 6) Docking Contacts 5 Charging the Battery The battery is shipped from the factory uncharged and not installed. Charge the battery before using the X-Pad for the first time. Battery Installation and Removal Important Note: The X-Pad enables you to replace batteries without losing information stored in its memory. To avoid losing information stored in the memory, a charged battery must be installed within 4 hours after removing the empty battery. Do not remove battery while the LED indicator of the X-Pad shows red. To install the battery:
1. Insert the battery, bottom end first, into the battery compartment (see Figure 3). Release Buttons 2. Carefully press the battery top down-
ward until it clicks into place. When X-Pad is powered by battery installa-
tion for the first time, see note in Turning On the X-Pad on page 11. Figure 3. Battery Installation To remove the battery:
1. Turn the X-Pad off by holding the Power button pressed (see Figure 1), for at least four seconds. Press the Release Buttons on the battery sides (see Figure 3) and pull away the battery from the X-Pad. 2. 6 The Universal Office Dock (UOD) Unit The UOD unit is used for charging the X-Pad battery and communicating with the X-Pad through an IrDA port. Each UOD unit has nine slots. Each slot may accommodate either a X-Pad with a battery attached, or a battery
(stand-alone). Each of the nine slots has a status LED with an associated number. The LEDs are laid out in the same order as the slots. When a slot is empty, its corresponding LED is Off. When a battery or a X-Pad with a battery is inserted to a slot, the slot LED turns On, indicating the battery charge (see Table 1). The battery power can also be tested by pressing the battery power TEST button (see Figure 5). Universal Office Dock

Battery temperature out of tolerance and charging has been temporarily stopped. X-Pad Battery is being charged. X-Pad Battery is at least 90% charged after 2.5 hours and fully charged after 3. X-Pad Battery is not fully charged after 3 hours of charging, and is considered failed. First Time Battery Charge The first time battery charge ensures maximum start capacity for the bat-
tery. Charge your new battery for at least 24 continuous hours before using it or until the LED indicator of the UOD shows green. Note: Out of box batteries are in sleep mode. Press the TEST pad, at the back side of the battery (see Figure 5) for at least two seconds before any attempt to charge or use. Pressing the TEST button awakes the battery gas-gauge. The UOD charges your battery effectively when it is at room temperature
[approx. 68F (20 C)]. Battery charging temperature range is 32F to 95F

Battery Power Test To test the power capacity of the battery; press the TEST pad on back side of the battery and view the power level indicator. Routine Battery Charge A battery is charged to 90% of its full capacity after approximately two and a half hours, and is fully charged after three hours, excluding out-of-
range periods. Note: The power level indicator shows only an approximate level of the remaining battery life. Important: The battery will not charge if the X-Pad or battery is not prop-
erly locked inside the UOD slot. Battery Maintenance The performance of the rechargeable battery delivered with your X-Pad depends on the way the battery is treated. Therefore, to comply with the Motorola warranty for batteries and to assure high performance and a long life for your Motorola rechargeable battery, please read and follow the maintenance rules stated below. Battery Storage Do not store your battery where the temperatures exceed 140F (60C) or fall below -4F (-20C). New Lithium-Ion batteries (i.e. batteries that have never been charged before) may be stored for up to 3 months in well-ventilated, cool and dry areas without significant loss in lifespan. Batteries which have already been charged and then stored for more than 2 months should be recharged before use. 9 Extending Battery Life A battery is an expendable part and may need replacing during the life of the X-Pad. To ensure maximum service life of your X-Pad, always replace the battery with a genuine Motorola replacement. Your UOD will charge your battery effectively when it is at room tempera-
ture [approx. 68F (20 C)]. Battery charging temperature range is 32F to 95F (0C to 35C). 10 Using the X-Pad Turning On the X-Pad Press the Power button to turn On the X-Pad (see Figure 7) - when turned On, the last displayed screen will be shown again. Note: The X-Pad powers On immediately when the battery is installed for the first time or after Cold Reset (see page 16) - the Motorola logo will show for about 30 seconds and you will be required to follow on-screen alignment (calibration) instructions. Turning Off the X-Pad When the X-Pad is On, hold the Power button pressed (see Figure 7) for at least four seconds. When the battery is removed (see Battery Installation and Removal) from the X-Pad during operation, the X-Pad turns off automatically. To resume operation after re-installing the battery, press the Power button. Suspend Mode When the X-Pad is On, press the Power button (see Figure 7) to enter Sus-
pend mode. During Suspend mode the display turns off and the LED indica-
tor slowly blinks green. To resume operation, press the Power button again. In Suspend mode, battery power is saved by turning off the display and computer sections of the X-Pad. During Suspend mode, the GPRS and Bluetooth radios continue to operate. When the X-Pad resumes operation, it returns to the screen shown prior to Suspend mode. Use Suspend mode as often as possible to save battery power. LED Indicator Function LED shows red - do not remove battery. LED slowly blinks green - X-Pad in Suspend mode. LED quickly blinks green - X-Pad is charged in UOD unit. 11 Using the Stylus Pen The Stylus pen selects items and enters information. Use the pen as you use your PC mouse. To open and select screen items, tap on the item with the pen. To drag text or image items, hold the pen on the item and drag across the screen. To see a list of actions available for a specific item, tap-and-hold the pen on an item. When the pop-up menu appears, tap the action you want to perform. Figure 6. gies and capture images in dim lighting conditions. The terminal features a high-resolution digital imager for omni-directional and auto-discrimination reading and decoding of linear barcodes, stacked linear (PDF417) and 2D matrix codes. The imager functions like a digital camera for either greyscale or black and white pictures. 14 The X-Pad is equipped with a SCAN trigger button, designed for both left-
handed and right-handed users (see Figure 8). The button is located at the center of the terminal navigation key panel. Images taken by the X-Pad are stored in the terminal memory. Images can be downloaded via IrDA communication to the cradle or transmitted via one of the wireless radio options. Capturing Images To capture an Image:
1. Activate your scanning application. 2. Aim and hold the X-Pad at a 45 angle approximately 2 to 9 inches (5 to 22 cm) away from the target. 3. Press the SCAN button and use the red rectangle light, emitted towards the target, to adjust your posi-
tion - a successful scan will be followed by sound indica-
tion. Note: When adjusting your position, you may move back and forth from the target. When scanning, the emitted rectangle light can be posi-

for example, you may reset due to communication cut-off, or if the operating system stops responding. If your X-Pad stops responding, do the following actions:

Cold Reset Cold reset restarts the X-
Pad by erasing all stored records and entries. Do Not perform Cold reset unless Warm reset fails to solve your problem. Do not scratch the screen. Use only Motorola supplied stylus pen with the touch screen. Never use a pen or pencil or any sharp object on the screen. Although your X-Pad is water and dust resistant, do not expose it to rain or moisture for long periods of time. Protect your X-Pad from temperature extremes. Do not leave the X-
Pad on the dashboard of a car on a hot day, and keep the X-Pad away from hot places. Do not drop your X-Pad or subject it to strong impact. Do not store or use your X-Pad in any location that is extremely dusty, damp or wet. If the battery contacts, screen or surface of the X-Pad become dirty, use a soft lint free cloth moistened with diluted Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) solution to remove dirt. The Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) can be diluted with water up to 20%. Accessories The following Motorola approved accessories are for use with your termi-

ALWAYS keep the handheld data computer more than 6 inches (15 centime-
ters) from their pacemaker when the radio is turned ON. Not carry the handheld data computer in the breast pocket. Use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential for interference. Turn the handheld data computer OFF immediately if there is any reason to suspect that interference is taking place. Hearing Aids Some digital wireless radios may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event of such interference, you may want to consult your hearing aid manufacturer to discuss alternatives. Other Medical Devices If you use any other personal medical device, consult the manufacturer of your de-
vice to determine if it is adequately shielded from RF energy. Your physician may be able to assist you in obtaining this information. Use of Communication Devices While Driving Always check the laws and regulations on the use of radios in the areas where you drive. Give full attention to driving and to the road. Use hands-free operation, if available. Pull off the road and park before using the handheld data computer, if driving conditions or regulations so require. Hold the handheld data computer in a vertical position in front of the face with the microphone (and other parts of the computer) at least one inch (2.5 centi-
meters) away from the nose or lips. Keeping the handheld data computer at a proper distance is important since RF exposures decrease with increasing dis-
tance from the antenna. When worn on the body, always place the handheld data computer in a Motor-
ola-approved clip, holder, holster, case, or body harness for this product. Using approved bodyworn accessories is important because the use of non-
Motorola-approved accessories may result in exposure levels, which exceed the FCC environment RF exposure limits. Approved Accessories Use only Motorola-approved supplied or replacement batteries and accessories. Use of Non-Motorola approved batteries and accessories may exceed the FCC

(EMI) if inadequately shielded, designed, or otherwise configured for electromagnet-
ic compatibility. Facilities To avoid electromagnetic interference and/or compatibility conflicts, turn off your handheld data computer in any facility where posted notices instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that is sensitive to exter-
nal RF energy. Aircraft When instructed to do so, turn off your handheld data computer when on board an aircraft. Any use of a handheld data computer must be in accordance with applicable regulations per airline crew instructions. Medical Devices Pacemakers The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) recommends that a minimum separation of 6 inches (15 centimeters) be maintained between a hand-
held wireless radio and a pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with those of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. WARNING Operational Warnings For Vehicles With an Air Bags:
Refer to vehicle manufacturer's manual prior to installation of elec-
tronic equipment to avoid interference with air bag wiring. Do not place a handheld data computer in the area over an air bag or in the air bag deployment area. Air bags inflate with great force. If a portable handheld data computer is placed in the air bag de-
ployment area and the air bag inflates, the handheld data comput-
er may be propelled with great force and cause serious injury to occupants of the vehicle. Potentially Explosive Atmospheres
(Explosive atmospheres refers to hazard classified locations that may contain hazardous gas, vapors, or dusts.) Turn off your handheld data computer prior to entering any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere unless it is a handheld data computer type especially qualified for use in such areas as In-
trinsically Safe (for example, Factory Mutual, CSA, UL, or CEN-
ELEC). Do not remove, install, or charge batteries in such areas. Sparks in a potentially explosive atmosphere can cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. The areas with potentially explosive atmospheres referred to above include fueling areas such as below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such as grain, dust or metal powders. Areas with potentially explosive atmospheres are often, but not always, posted. Blasting Caps and Blasting Areas To avoid possible interference with blasting operations, turn off your handheld data computer when you are near electrical blast-
ing caps, in a blasting area, or in areas posted: "Turn off two-way radio" Obey all signs and instructions. Accessory Safety Information CAUTION Operational Cautions Batteries All batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury, such as burns if a conductive material such as jewelry, keys, or beaded chains touches exposed computers. The conductive material may complete an electrical circuit (short circuit) and become quite hot. Exercise care in handling any charged battery, particularly when placing it inside a pocket, purse, or other container with metal objects. IMPORTANT:

continue its use. Use of a non-recommended attachment to a battery charger may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. Make sure the battery charger power cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or subjected to damage or stress. An extension cord should not be used with any battery charger unless abso-
lutely necessary. Use of an improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If an extension cord must be used, make sure that:
The pins on the plug of the extension cord are the same number, size, and shape as those on the plug of the charger. The extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. The cord size is 18AWG for lengths up to 100 feet and 16AWG for lengths up to 150 feet.
