You can open Ulo by holding the head part with one hand and pushing the notching with the thumb of your other hand (see quick start guide point 1.). Be careful to not press the beak which is very thin and fragile. Damaging the beak might affect the video quality. Installing batteries (optional) Ulo works with 3 rechargeable NimH batteries (LR06) minimum 1900 mA (see quick start guide point 2. and point 3.). These rechargeable batteries are not provided but can easily be found in any supermarket. Please read, keep and follow these instructions:
- Use 3 new rechargeable NimH batteries CE or FCC certified. Battery polarity must be observed.
- Never use non-rechargeable batteries, they will overheat if placed in Ulo. When they overheat the seals will break, causing the batteries to leak or explode. If the batteries explode the chemicals will spread all over the immediate area, which is serious health hazard. In extreme cases, the batteries may burst into flames.
- Do not remove the NimH batteries to recharge them. Simply plug Ulo to a power source.
- Mu Design recommends certain batteries brands that have been tested with Ulo on http://support.ulo.came-
ra. Using other brands is at your own risk, Mu Design cannot be held responsible if you decide to use other batteries. All rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan, and eventually they may need to be serviced or recycled. These tips can help you maximize batteries life in your Ulo:
- Turn off your product when its not in use.
- Avoid charging or storing at extreme temperatures (below 0C / 32F or above 45C / 113F). Setting up Ulo 1. Connect Ulo to a power source using the micro USB cable (see quick start guide point 4.) plugged into any AC power adapter delivering 5V-2A (not provided). If you dont have one at home, such adaptors are available online or at any reputable electronics store. 2. Wait for Ulo to be happy and place Ulo upside-down (see quick start guide point 5.). 3. Use option a or b to configure your Ulo :
a. Download the Ulo app on your smartphone or tablet by searching on your apple store or google play. b. Connect your computer or device to Ulo Wi-Fi (SSID: ULO Password: Mu Design), launch your web browser and go to the web page: http://setup.ulo.camera 4. The app or the web page will guide you through the rest of the configuration process. Please note that you will have to turn Ulo upside-down each time you wish to access the settings. Modes & Taps Modes You can set Ulo to one of these modes:
- Default mode*:
a. Standard mode: Ulo is awake, its eyes can display animations. Ulo does not record activity. b. Spy mode: Ulo is awake, its eyes can display animations. Ulo records every movement and pushes notifications (if configured).
- Alert mode: Ulo is asleep, its eyes remain black. Ulo records every movement and pushes notifications (if configured). TAP
*By default, Ulo is set in standard mode but you can swap to spy mode if you decide to force recording. Taps Ulo reacts to different type of taps on its forehead:
- Short taps ( 1 second) a. A single tap allows you to keep Ulo awake or to restore sleeping mode. By default, Ulo enters sleeping mode after 3 seconds if no movement is detected. b. A double tap activates or deactivates the alert mode. DOUBLE TAP x2
- Long taps a. A long single tap equal or greater than 2 seconds ( 2 sec.) enables you to switch Ulo on or off. b. A long single tap equal or greater than 15 seconds ( 15 sec.) enables you to perform a factory reset. A reset will delete all your settings, you will need to reconfigure your camera. You are strongly advised to back up your Ulo before completing this step.
- Slides A slide on Ulos forehead stands for a caress. Ulo will display a happy mood. Placing or mounting Ulo SWIPE Ulo is designed for DIY installation. Ulo can simply be placed on a shelf, countertop or table. You can also install Ulo on a wall by using the provided self-adhesive neodymium magnets and following those instructions (see quick start guide point 6.):
1. The adhesive on the backside of self-adhesive magnets requires certain surface qualities to be able to reach their full adhesive potential. The wall surface needs to be free of dust, clean and dry. Avoid uneven, rough and crumbly surfaces. Be careful with painted walls. Make sure the paint doesnt peel off. We advise you to keep a protection underneath Ulo for few days, just in case it falls. 2. Make sure the location you have picked is close enough to a wall outlet. Try holding Ulo where you want it with the power cable and AC adapter plugged in. You should have a little slack just in case. 3. Check your Wi-Fi coverage by viewing your live feed with the Ulo app. If the Ulo cant connect to Wi-Fi, or if the video stream is interrupted, you might need to choose another location where the signal is stronger. 4. Once your Ulo is successfully streaming video, its time to install your magnet. It is best to clean the surface prior to use with a suitable detergent and wait until it is fully dry. Remove the protective foil and press the adhesive part onto the wall for few minutes. Thereafter, the adhesive needs to dry 24 hours to achieve its best adhesive performance. 5. After 24 hours, you can place your Ulo. Rotate its base to be able to place it vertically. Make sure Ulo holds properly before removing your hand. In the early days, place a protection (example: pillow) underneath Ulo just in case it falls. The use of magnets is at your own risk. Mu Design cannot be held responsible if you dont follow the above instructions. Inserting a microSD card (optional) If you want to back up your files, you can insert a microSD card in the slot intended for this purpose. The slot is located in Ulos back (see quick start guide point 7.):
1. Make sure you inserted the microSD card angled side first and label side down. The microSD card shall be sloped. Dont force, it wont lock into the slot. 2. MicroSD card must be class 10 and up to 128 GB. 3. Check if your microSD card is formatted to FAT 32. 4. If you need assistance please go to http://support.ulo.camera.
