Part No. 9261-8277 Issue 2.0 4 EkoTek Call Fob General User Information Radio Reception Your EkoTek Call Fob has been designed to give optimum performance within the coverage area of the transmitting system. As with any radio system there may be areas of poor coverage, where reception may be sporadic, or non-existent. If necessary, consult your system administrator in order to familiarise yourself with these areas. Hazardous Areas The EkoTek Call Fob should not be taken into areas where explosive gas, or dust products, may be present. Call Fob Care Protect your Call Fob from liquids, extreme temperatures and strong magnetic fields. Do not leave your EkoTek Call Fob exposed to strong sunlight. Servicing Should your EkoTek Call Fob require repair, return it to the designated service agent. Do not attempt to open or repair the product, as it contains delicate components and requires specialised test equipment. When activated the Call Fob will emit a single audible pip and the alert/status lamp will flash once indicating that it is switched on. After 10 seconds the alert/status lamp will emit a series of single flashes, this indicates that the Call Fob is in the process of detecting the EkoTek wireless network. Once the network is detected and the Call Fob is logged-on, the alert/status lamp will emit a series of double flashes indicating that the Call Fob is now ready to use. Pressing the black button briefly will indicate if the Call Fob is logged-on to a network : the Status lamp will flash twice in succession if it is logged on or once if it is not logged-on. If your EkoTek Call Fob does not switch on, check that a fresh battery is correctly installed and refer to the section entitled:
Changing the Call Fob Battery. Note: The Call Fob is automatically activated by the insertion of a battery. Status and Warning Messages Checking Network Status Press and release the BLACK button, the alert/status lamp will indicate EkoTek network connectivity status for a 6-second period. A single flash indicates that the Call Fob is attempting to detect the EkoTek network. A double flash indicates that the EkoTek network has been detected and the Call Fob is fully operational. Changing Battery Notification Part No. 9261-8277 Issue 2.0 7 EkoTek Pager When the battery requires changing the Call Fob will emit a single long beep with an accompanying flash of the alert/status lamp. Please refer to: Changing the Call Fob Battery. Out-of-Range Notification If the Call Fob is out-of-range of the EkoTek wireless network, the Call Fob will emit 2-beeps accompanied by 2-flashes of the alert/status lamp. Switching the Call Fob Off To switch the Call Fob off. Press and hold the BLACK button for 5-
seconds this is confirmed by a single flash of alert/status lamp accompanied by a single beep. To confirm that the Call Fob has been de-activated, press and release the BLACK button. If the unit has been de-activated neither the beep nor the alert/status lamp will activate. Requesting Assistance or Raising an Alarm In the event of an Emergency or where immediate assistance is required press the RED button. Depending on how the EkoTek system has been configured this may require a SINGLE or DOUBLE press of the RED button. Please confirm this action with your EkoTek system supervisor. On pressing the RED button the Call Fob will acknowledge the alert with a flash of alert/status lamp accompanied by vibrate and/or a beep depending on configuration. Cancelling an Alarm At any stage during the initiation of an alarm or request for assistance it can be cancelled. To cancel the alarm press and hold Part No. 9261-8277 Issue 2.0 8 EkoTek Call Fob the BLACK button, this is acknowledged by a single flash of the alert/status lamp in conjunction with a single pulse of the vibrate motor. Dead Man Alert Your Call Fob is equipped with a Dead Man alarm feature this facility must be enabled by your EkoTek System Supervisor. The Dead Man Alert initiates an alert to the Call Fob at pre-
determined time intervals. This alert must be acknowledged within a pre-determined time period by pressing the BLACK button. Please note that the System Supervisor configures both the frequency of the Dead Man Alert and the required response time. If the alert is not acknowledged within the pre-determined time frame an alarm will be initiated. This can be cancelled at any time by pressing the BLACK button. Man Down Alert Your Call Fob is equipped with a Man Down alarm feature. This facility must be enabled by your EkoTek System Supervisor. The Dead Man Alert operates by automatically initiating an alert sequence if the Call Fob is tipped over. If the Call Fob is tipped over, after a pre-determined time interval the unit will beep, vibrate and the alert/status lamp will flash. This Part No. 9261-8277 Issue 2.0 9 EkoTek Pager indicates that the Call Fob must be returned to an upright position in order to terminate the alarm sequence. If the Call Fob cannot be returned to the upright position an alarm will be initiated. To cancel the alarm after it has been initiated press the BLACK button. Changing the Battery When the battery is near the end of its operating life, the Call Fob is programmed to provide a visual and audio warning A single long beep with an accompanying flash of the alert/status lamp. The Call Fob will continue to operate normally for several days. To ensure that calls are not missed, the old battery should be replaced with a new AAA sized battery as soon as possible. To remove the battery door, slide the battery door in the direction of the arrow until the two pips on the back of the Battery Door are aligned. Rotate the battery door in an anti-clockwise direction to expose the battery compartment. Align pips to remove the battery door Insert the new battery in the direction as shown at the back of the battery compartment. Return the battery door back into position so that it locks automatically with a click.
