With Ear ID the user has the capability to personalize their IQbuds to best deliver sound to their own hearing profile. At the core of the innovative Ear ID personalization system is the NAL-NL2 unique programming formula designed for and used globally by hearing aid manufacturers and audiologists. Your unique Ear ID hearing profile is completed through the IQbuds app after assessing the relative strengths and weaknesses of your hearing at various frequencies. It then automatically adjusts and creates a personal Ear ID profile that is designed to compensate for your perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. Create Your Ear ID Profile Before starting the Ear ID profiling:
Ensure you are in a quiet room. Ensure the hearing aids have a good seal in your ears using the correct Ear Tips. 1. Tap Ear ID in the Menu Bar. 2. Next, a series of screens are displayed to explain and set up the Ear ID profile process. 29 3. Tap to start the Ear ID profile, which identifies the softest tone you can hear in a range of frequencies. Please be patient as the Ear ID evaluation may take up to 10 minutes to complete. Completing the analysis is important to optimize the hearing aids for your personal hearing profile. 4. Tap to confirm as soon as you hear a tone. Please Note: If you miss acknowledging a tone then a screen appears to prompt you to try another Ear Tip in case the seal in your ear canal is poor. We recommend testing your Ear Tip seal. Another screen allows you to test new Ear Tips in both ears in turn using a heartbeat sound to verify the seal Ear Tip seal in each ear. 30 5. After testing the Ear Tip seal tap Start to continue with the hearing profiling. 6. Tap each time a tone is heard to acknowledge it. Please note:
a. The Ear ID evaluation may take up to 10 minutes to complete. b. The assessment identifies the quietest tone you can hear in each frequency. c. Do not stress if you cannot hear all tones. This is a normal part of the test process. d. You may experience some gaps in hearing tones which is also normal. e. If you open a different app or receive notifications during the hearing assessment it may be necessary to start again. Exit the test if required Touch TAP button to confirm each tone Green progress bar displays test progress and time remaining Tap to pause the test How To Use the Ear ID Assessment 1. Turn the Ear ID switch on to calibrate the IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aids to your personal hearing profile. 2. Turn Ear ID off to remove the custom hearing profile. The hearing aids will use the default normal hearing profile. 3. Tap Help me understand this to learn more about your Ear ID assessment results. Please Note: If you repeatedly need to adjust settings to increase loudness and clarity of sound, it is recommended that you reassess your Ear ID profile to ensure it is optimized for your personal hearing requirements. Tap Recreate in the Ear ID screen to restart the Ear ID hearing assessment. 31 Locations Preconfigured Location profiles configure the hearing aids to create the best hearing experience based on your environment. You can also personalize your hearing aids for different Locations using World EQ to enhance hearing in different environments. How Can Locations Help You?
Tap the Location drop-down menu in the solid blue bar at the top of the screen to select one of seven different locations available. To deliver the best hearing aid performance, each Location listed has been optimized with default settings based on common sound characteristics in different environments. The Locations listed include Home, Workout, Street, Office, Restaurant, Driving and Plane. Tap to expand and collapse menu Location highlighted blue is currently selected Tap the Heart icon to select up to 4 favorites 32 Adjusting Hearing Profiles for Your Environment The default Locations are a great starting point to optimize your IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aids for different environments. However, as everyones hearing is different, it is also possible to personalize the preconfigured profiles for each of the seven Locations by adjusting default settings in the Volume, SINC, World EQ and Focus screens. Tap Reset at the top of the screen to return to default settings for each Location profile. You can tap the Heart icon on the screen to select up to four [4] favorite locations which you can select using Tap Touch gestures when wearing your hearing aids. Tap to cycle through favorites using a long (two [2] second) tap on the right hearing aid. How to Use Locations Example Scenario You are in the office and have selected Office as your hearing aid Location and have personalized the Volume, SINC, World EQ and Focus settings. After leaving the office and heading into the street you can use the long Tap Touch gesture on the right hearing aid to change to the preconfigured Location called Street. Alternatively, launch the IQbuds app to open the drop-down Location menu and select Street. 33 World Settings Tap World in the Menu Bar at the bottom of the screen to display the World Volume options. Feature Card Options The Feature Card options include:
Volume SINC (Speech In Noise Control) World EQ Focus What is Volume Volume controls the level of the microphones inside the IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aids. It is the main control for how much of the outside world can be heard. How Can Volume Help You?
1. When Volume is turned ON the dial on the screen controls the audio level of your surroundings and the balance of what can be heard. Turn it up to hear more of your external environment and turn it down to hear less. 2. When Volume is turned OFF all other features in the World Menu Bar item are also inactive. This is because all features in the World Menu Bar make changes to how you hear your surroundings. If Volume is OFF then the hearing aid microphones are not used and you will not hear the external environment amplified. 3. ANC (Active Noise Control) is automatically ON when Volume is OFF. This means the hearing aids will actively attempt to block noise from your external environment. World Volume ON World Volume OFF and Active Noise Control ON 34 Adjusting the Volume Increase or decrease the level of your surroundings using the Active Dot and circular Dial. Remember, the switch in the middle of the circular Dial controls World Volume ON/OFF. ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) is automatically activated when World Volume is OFF. How to Use World Volume Example Scenario As an example, if you are sitting at home with a friend or loved one and they are talking but you cant quite hear what they are saying, move the active dot to the right and their voice and your surroundings will become louder in the hearing aids. Later that day you may be sitting and reading a book and someone is watching TV next to you. To focus on the book without the distraction of the TV, turn World Volume OFF to reduce background noise from your surroundings and focus on reading. 35 SINC (Speech In Noise Control) Use SINC to reduce the amount of background noise you hear from your surroundings to focus on speech. What is SINC and How Can It Help You?
SINC controls in your hearing aids adjust the level of speech you hear versus background noise in your environment. SINC is very helpful in noisy or crowded environments by suppressing and reducing background noise from all directions. The switch in the middle of the circular Dial controls SINC ON/OFF. How to Adjust SINC Rotate the Active Dot to the right on the circular Dial to reduce background noise and focus on speech. This screen displays a message to confirm whether speech or ambience (background noise) is increasing. Move Active Dot to the Right to Clarify Move Active Dot to the Left to Increase Speech and Reduce Background Noise Background Noise levels. 36 How to Use SINC Example Scenario You are out enjoying a drink with a friend and feel you cannot distinguish their voice (speech) over the noise of everyone else in the establishment (background noise). Rotate the Active Dot to the right on the circular Dial to reduce background noise and hear your friends voice with more clarity, allowing you to enjoy free flowing conversation. 37 World EQ Use World EQ to filter out background noise from your environment to improve the performance of the IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aids. How Can World EQ Improve What You Hear?
World EQ helps when there is a lot of loud low frequency background noise in your environment, like in a subway station or outside an airport. Rotate the Action Bar to the left on the circular Dial to reduce bass sounds and clarify speech. Rotate the Action Bar to the right on the circular Dial to reduce Treble high frequency background noise like bird life and glass clinks. High frequency noises may be amplified in environments with lots of hard, reflective surfaces like restaurants. The switch in the middle of the circular Dial controls World EQ ON/OFF. With World EQ OFF you hear the world as it is in its natural state. There are seven World EQ settings and the center position is a combination of both Bass andTreble filters:
1. Move the Action Bar to the left on the circular Dial and try the Min, Mid and Max settings, which progressively reduce low frequencies in each step. 38 2. Move the Action Bar to the right on the circular Dial and try the Min, Mid and Max settings, which progressively reduce high frequencies in each step. How to Use World EQ Example Scenario As an example, you may be in an environment with an old air conditioner creating a loud low frequency background rumble and noise, which is annoying or masks what you really want to hear. Rotate the Action Bar to the left on the circular Dial to reduce background rumble and noise and clarify speech. Rotate the Action Bar to the right on the circular Dial to reduce high pitched background noise like plate and glass clinks in a busy restaurant. Rotate the Active Dot to the right on the circular Dial to reduce background noise and hear your friends voice with more clarity, allowing you to enjoy free flowing conversation. 39 Focus Focus adjusts the directionality of the microphones in your hearing aids to hear more clearly directly in front of you. How Can Focus Help You?
Focus isolates and enhances sounds directly in front of you, which is very useful for greater clarity of conversation in noisy environments like restaurants. Focus is turned on by default for the Restaurant setting if you select this Location (see Locations for more details). Focus works best when a person is close and in front of you. How to Use Focus In the IQbuds app Focus can be turned on and off with the Focus switch, or by tapping the center of the circle on the Focus screen. Switch used to turn Focus On and Off Tap the center of the Circle to turn Focus On and Off How to Use Focus Example Scenario Focus can help you to more clearly hear a person speaking in front of you when a loud table is sitting behind you at a restaurant. When Focus is on it detects more sound from in front of you. Focus is not recommended when outdoors in windy environments, or in situations where full peripheral awareness is required (e.g., walking and cycling, etc.). 40 Care and Maintenance Battery Information The IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aid battery operating life is 2-3 years based on average use and charging 3 times per week. The capacity of any type of battery will diminish after a certain amount of recharging. With lithium-
ion batteries, the capacity diminishes slightly with each complete charge cycle. Lithium-ion batteries may be charged at any time and there is no requirement to fully discharge the battery before recharging it again. A single charge cycle is achieved each time you fully discharge 100% of the battery capacity and recharge the battery again. A discharge of 50% of the battery and recharge of the battery represents one half (0.5) charge cycle. The batteries in the hearing aids are designed to retain 80% of their capacity after 400 full charge cycles giving the product a long usage lifespan. Lithium-ion batteries are affected by temperature. Use the following guidelines to preserve rechargeable batteries:
Recommended storage conditions: Temperature 68F to 86F (20C to 30C) with humidity not greater than 90%. Avoid placing in direct sunlight or extreme cold. Operating temperature range: XXF to XXF (XXC to XXC) Do not store hearing aids for extended periods without recharging them. If not regularly used charge around every 4 months. If you handle or store rechargeable batteries incorrectly, their lifetime may be reduced. Caring for your Hearing Aids Important Note: We do not recommend using alcohol wipes on your hearing aids. General Maintenance of IQbuds 2 PRO Follow these simple steps regularly to help maintain audio quality by keeping the device free of obstructing debris. You will need a soft, lint free cloth and a cleaning brush. (Supplied with the hearing aids) Method:
1. Take the IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aids from the Charge Case and remove the silicone or foam Ear Tips. 2. Wipe down the hearing aid with a soft, lint free cloth, paying special attention to the speaker tip section of the hearing aid inserted into the ear canal. 3. Remove Ear Tips from the hearing aids. Wipe over the silicone/foam Ear Tips (only) with the cloth to remove any earwax. Use a soft, lint free cloth to gently absorb any moisture. 4. Ensure no earwax, dirt, or dust is blocking the speaker in the hearing aids. Use of the Brush is recommended if visible debris is present. 5. Using the brush and or the soft cloth, brush the charging contacts on the hearing aids and the Charge Case from time. It is recommended not to clean the charge case or hearing aids more than once a week and to only do so on a need to basis if required. 41 The IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aids come with a gentle cleaning brush to assist in removing debris (e.g. ear wax) from the hearing aids, if necessary. It is recommended to use the provided brush, only, as brushes with stiffer bristles can cause damage to the speaker of the hearing aid. Ear ID provides the ability to personalize, control and alter your soundscape. It is a certified hearing assessment within the IQbuds app that assesses your hearing, shows your results and calibrates your hearing aid for you. World EQ allows each user to access different audio equalisation settings that boost or reduce treble and bass sounds for personalised noise cancellation. The IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aid features a 12 band WDRC (Wide Dynamic Range Compression) System. WDRC makes soft speech sounds more audible, while louder sounds remain comfortable. This allows IQbuds 2 PRO users not to have to make as many manual adjustments over the volume of their buds, as louder sounds will not be amplified beyond tolerance levels. IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aid directional microphones emphasize sounds directly in front of you and suppress sounds from other directions with the FOCUS feature. Includes SINC (Speech In Noise Control) to reduce background noise and clarify speech in hearing aid signal processing. Noise Reduction Includes Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Feedback Control Uses algorithms to cancel feedback and lower gain of the hearing aid if the feedback cannot be cancelled. Personalization Coupling to the Ear Wireless Connectivity Self-fitted by the user via either an app on a smart device (phone or tablet). The Ear ID feature in the IQbuds app allows you to measure and analyze your hearing thresholds, then configure the IQbuds 2 PRO hearing aid to reflect your own personal hearing profile.
