The red dash mounted L.E.D. supplied with the system also serves as a control switch. Refer to the illustrations at the right for an explanation of the switch positions. ARMING THE SYSTEM :
Red Light in OUT Position Red Light in IN Position CONTROL SWITCH OFF POSITION CONTROL SWITCH ON POSITION 1. Turn the ignition key off, exit the vehicle, and close all doors, hood, and trunk or rear hatch. 2. Press and release the LOCK button on the keychain transmitter.
The red dash mounted L.E.D. begins to flash slowly.
Vehicle's parking lights flash one time.
Vehicle's horn sounds one time - Selectable. If the horn sounds 3 times, then you have left a door, hood, or trunk or rear hatch opened. Simply close the opened entry point to provide full protection.
All of the vehicle's doors lock.
The headlights turn on for 20 seconds. I G N M R A

Whenever the system is armed, the red dash mounted L.E.D. indicator will slowly flash. This serves as a visual deterrent to the potential thief. The L.E.D. is a very low current bulb, and will not drain the vehicle's battery, even when left unattended for extended periods.
Opening any protected door, hood, or trunk lid will cause the system to immediately activate. The alarm will continue to activate for 30 seconds, then stop and continue to monitor all protected entry points. If the thief left a door opened, the alarm will activate for six 30 second cycles, then re - arm and ignore the opened door.
Whenever the system is armed, the vehicle's starting circuit will be by - passed. If the thief chooses to ignore the activated system, the vehicle's starting circuit is interrupted.
Whenever the system is activated, the vehicle's parking lights will flash for the full 30 second alarm cycle. The vehicle's horn will also sound for the full 30 second alarm cycle.
A soft impact to the vehicle's glass will cause the system to sound a series of warn - away tones from the vehicle's horn.
A strong impact to the vehicle's glass will cause the system to sound for the full 30 second alarm cycle. D E M R A N E H W N O T C E T O R P I 5 1. As you approach the vehicle, press and release the UNLOCK button on the keychain transmitter.
Red dash mounted L.E.D. turns off.
Parking lights flash two times.
Vehicle's horn sounds two times - Selectable. If the horn sounds 4 times, then the system was activated in your ab-
sence. Before turning the key on, examine the L.E.D. and refer to the section titled " INTRUSION WARNING INDICATORS " to identify which zone was triggered.
Driver's door unlocks. To unlock the remaining doors, press and release the UNLOCK button on the keychain transmitter two times within 3 seconds.
Headlights turn on for 20 seconds, or until the ignition key is switched on. M E T S Y S e h t I G N M R A S D I 6 This system will inform you if an intrusion attempt was made while you were away from the vehicle. This is an important feature, as it will allow you to alert the proper authorities at the exact location of the intrusion. If an intrusion attempt has occurred, the vehicle's horn will sound 4 times when you disarm the system. Enter the vehicle, and observe the red dash mounted L.E.D. to identify which zone was triggered.
If the L.E.D. is flashing one time...pause...one time...pause, then an intrusion attempt was made to the shock sensor or hood ( and rear doors in four door RAV 4 models, Landcruiser, and 4Runner ).
If the L.E.D. is flashing two times...pause...two times...pause, then an intrusion attempt was made to the vehicle's trunk.
If the L.E.D. is flashing three times...pause...three times...pause, then an intrusion attempt was made through one of the vehicle's doors. ATTENTION ! These intrusion warning indicators are stored in the system's memory, and will be erased when the ignition key is turned to the on position. S R O T A C D N I I I G N N R A W N O S U R T N 7 I I The valet mode allows you to temporarily by - pass all alarm functions, eliminating the need to hand your transmitter to parking attendants or garage mechanics. When the system is in valet mode, all alarm functions are by - passed, however the remote panic feature and door locks will remain operational. To use the valet mode ;
1. Enter the vehicle, and turn the ignition key to the on position. 2. Press the L.E.D. light switch to the on ( in ) position. The dash mounted L.E.D. will turn on solid, and remain on as long as the system is left in the valet mode. 3. To return to normal alarm operation, press and release the red L.E.D. light switch back to the off ( out ) position any time the ignition key is on. In the event that you lose your keychain transmitter, or if the transmitter fails to disarm the system due to weak or discharged batteries, the valet switch can be used to disarm the system. Open the driver's door using the door key. The horn will sound ! Make sure the L.E.D. light switch is in the off ( out ) position, then turn the ignition key on. Press and release the L.E.D. light switch to the on ( in ) position. The system will disarm, and the vehicle can now be started. ATTENTION ! Always remember to set the valet switch back to the off ( out ) position. This will ensure that your vehicle remains protected at all times. I E D R R E V O L A U N A M
T E L A V 8 The system is programmed to arm and disarm silently, however if you prefer to make the vehicle's horn sound when arming and disarming, the system can be programmed to do this, either with soft horn chirps or louder horn chirps. To do this ;
1. Start with the L.E.D. light switch in the off position, then turn the vehicle's ignition key on then off. 2. Within 5 seconds, cycle the L.E.D. light switch to on then off 4 times ( you will hear a soft chirp, stop here if you want soft chirps activated ). 3. Continue to cycle the L.E.D. light switch to on then off 1 more time ( you will hear a louder chirp, stop here if you want louder chirps activated ). 4. Continue to cycle the L.E.D. light switch to on then off 1 more time ( you will not hear the horn, stop here if you want silent arming active ). NOTE : Whenever the chirps are turned off, the 4 chirp intrusion indicator and 3 chirp defective zone indicator will always operate. These are important warnings to you that something has happened, and they can not be turned off. E M U L O V I P R H C e h t I G N G N A H C 9 REMOTE PANIC :
The RED button on the bottom of your keychain transmitter functions as a panic switch for use in emergency situations. To activate the remote panic ;
1. Press and release the RED button on the transmitter. The system will immedi-
ately activate. 2. To stop the panic feature, press and release the RED button on the transmitter. If the button is not pressed, the panic feature will automatically stop after 30 seconds. REPLACING THE TRANSMITTER BATTERY :
You will notice a decrease in transmitting range as the condition of the transmitter battery dete-
riorates. Replacement of the transmitter battery is recommended every 10 to 12 months for consistant and trouble free operation. The transmitter has a small green L.E.D. built into the case. This L.E.D. can be used to indicate battery condition. If the L.E.D. does not illuminate or is very weak, then the battery is discharged and must be replaced. I C N A P E T O M E R 10 To replace the transmitter battery ;
1 1. Remove the small phillips head screw from the bottom of the transmitter. 2. Use a small screwdriver or coin in the slot at the top edge of the transmitter, and carefully unsnap the top cover of the transmitter away from the bottom cover. 2 3. Remove the discharged battery, making note of the location of the ( + ) and ( - ) contacts, and replace with a new 12 volt type GP 23A battery. 3 4. Be sure the Red banic button is properly placed on the back cover of the transmitter as shown. 4 5. Lift the rubber boot off of the circuit board, and press it in place in the track surrounding the panic button. This will help to hold the panic button in place. 6. Carefully snap the two transmitter halves back together, then secure with the small phillips head screw.
