Fiber Use the Bluetooth remote control You can use the remote control that comes with your Google Fiber TV system (GFRM100) as either infrared or Bluetooth. It is ready to use as an infrared remote with your TV Box when you receive it. If you want to use it to control your TV as well, you can program it by following the instructions in Program the remote for your TV. If you want to use it as a Bluetooth remote, you must pair it by following the instructions in Pair the remote with a TV Box. The following table describes the most common functions of the buttons on the standard remote control provided with your system. Some buttons have more than one function, depending on what is displayed on your TV screen at the time you press them. The Bluetooth remote control must be within 10 meters of the TV Box, assuming there are no significant obstructions. Button Function box tv tv input Toggles between turning on the TV Box and putting it in standby mode. Toggles between turning the TV on and off. (This button is programmable. See Program the remote for your TV for details.) Switches between types of input to your TV, such as Google TV, a Blu-ray player, a game box, or something similar. (This button is programmable for most TVs. See Program the remote for your TV for details.) Stops the current recording from playing and returns to the last content you were watching. Records the content you are watching. (Note that since everything you watch is recorded, this actually confirms that the DVR should keep that recording and that it should continue recording that show, even if you stop watching it.) Also, schedules a program that is highlighted on the on-screen guide or info overlay to be recorded. Press it again to display recording options. Press the top to play the highlighted or selected show or stack of highlighted shows. Also, resumes playing after pausing. Press the bottom to pause the content you are watching. Press the pause button repeatedly to advance forward one frame at a time. Rewinds the content you are watching. (Does not work while paused.) Fast-forwards the content you are watching. (Does not work while paused.) Skips back 15 seconds in the current program, by default, or by the length of time you set in your customized skip and time-out settings. Also horizontally pages left through lists. Skips forward 15 seconds in the current program, by default, or by the length of time you set in your customized skip and time-out settings. Also horizontally pages right through lists. Displays the main menu, which disappears after a few seconds, if you do nothing more. (See Use the main menu options for details.) Jumps back to the previous screen of info or content. Displays the on-screen program guide. (See Use the on-screen guide for details.) Press again to dismiss the guide. Moves the highlight up. Moves the highlight down. Moves the highlight right. Moves the highlight left. ok - Selects the highlighted item. While watching full-screen video, displays info about the current show (same as info button). Exits the current screen and returns to the content you were watching previously. + Increases the volume. Decreases the volume. Displays the Search screen. (See Search for content for details.) Press to dismiss the Search screen and return to the content you were watching previously. Mute button turns off the TVs sound temporarily. Press again to return the sound to its previous volume. + Changes the channel to the next higher number. Changes the channel to the next lower number. When viewing a list:
+ Vertically pages up. Vertically pages down. Allows you to enter numbers or words when required. del prev Deletes the last character entered. Also deletes the highlighted item(s) (with a prompt for you to confirm the deletion) and can be used to delete an entire group of recordings at once. (See Delete a recorded show for details.) While watching TV, shows the list of previously viewed channels while watching TV, and you can quickly switch to any channel listed. Although the Installation Specialist programmed it for you at installation time, this procedure is provided to help you do it yourself, if necessary. Use any of the following methods to program the remote:
TV brand search (recommended):
1. Turn on the TV using the TV's original remote control. 2. Go back to the previous step, and try again. If it fails again, try the manual programming method. 5. Pause for three seconds. 6. Press and hold tv until the TV turns off. This programming method requires the original remote control that came with the TV, as well as the Google Fiber remote control. 1. Turn on the TV using the TV's original remote control. 2. On the Google Fiber TV remote control, press and hold the 1 and 5 buttons together for three seconds. The tv button blinks twice and then stays on. 3. Release both buttons. 4. Press the first learnable button that you want to program. The learnable buttons are:
tv input vol up/down The tv button LED turns on. 5. 6. Hold the original TV remote control about two inches from the Google Fiber remote control, and point the infrared sensors toward each other. Press and hold the button on the original TV remote that you want to program on the Google Fiber remote. If the learning works, the programmed button on the Google Fiber remote blinks twice, and the LED stays on. If the learning does not work, the button does not blink. Try again. 7. Press the next learnable button that you want to program, and repeat the two previous steps. 8. Repeat the process for each learnable button that you want to program. 9. When you finish programming the learnable buttons, press ok to exit programming mode, and confirm that the programming worked. Confirm that the remote control can control the TV by making sure that the following buttons result in the appropriate actions:
tv turns the TV on and off. input changes the source of input on the TV (such as from the TV Box or from a connected Blu-ray player or other device). vol up/down changes the volume. toggles between muted and normal audio. Please read these instructions before using your remote control. We do not want you to get hurt or your remote control to get damaged. Do not use your remote control near water. If you need to clean it, do not use a wet towel. Keep your remote control dry. Do not place your remote control near any heat sources, such as hot appliances like heaters and radiators, other electronics like computers and stereos, or inside your fireplace. Your remote control is cool, and you should help it to stay that way. The remote control is for indoor use only. Please do not try to use it outside. Protect your remote control's power cord by allowing it to loosely rest between the device and the power outlet. Do not stretch it or compress it between objects. Do not try to open, modify, or repair your remote control (except to replace the batteries periodically as instructed below). This could cause electric shock or injury to you. Any customer modification not expressly approved by Google voids your authority to operate the equipment and will void your device warranty. (shown below) indicates the proper placement of the batteries. Handling disposable batteries This product may contain disposable batteries. Google Fiber Device Limited Warranty Google Fiber warrants the remote control against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use
(Limited Warranty). This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in cities where Google Fiber makes its services available. This Limited Warranty will not apply if you acquire your remote control from a party other than Google Fiber. This Limited Warranty only applies to hardware components. Google Fiber does not provide any warranty for damage caused by normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse (including failure to follow product documentation), neglect, disassembly, alterations and external causes such as but not limited to extreme thermal or environmental conditions. This Limited Warranty does not guarantee that use of the remote control will be uninterrupted or error free. EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR THE REMOTE CONTROL: If a defect arises with the remote control at any time while you are still a Subscriber to Google Fiber services, we will in our sole discretion and to the extent permitted by law either repair the defective device using new or refurbished parts or replace the defective device with a new or refurbished device with functionality at least equivalent to the defective remote control. If Google Fiber repairs or replaces any remote control, the repaired or replaced remote control will continue to be warranted for the remaining time of the original warranty period.
