Getting legal 4 The Qstik EVOQ user guide Informing Congratulations on choosing one of the most technically sophisticated and stylish Bluetooth headsets available. Utilising technologies originally developed for the military, your EVOQ delivers high quality voice wherever you are, whatever the situation, with its noise cancellation, echo cancellation, automatic speech level control and acoustic shock protection features. NOiSE CANCELLATiON fEATURES:
Your EVOQ distinguishes between speech
(the wanted signal) and background noise
(the unwanted signal) removing background noise mixed with speech and enabling you to clearly hear the voice. The noise cancellation in your EVOQ is bi-directional it benefits both you and the person receiving the call. Its highly adaptable to its surroundings, constantly re-tuning so you can move around with the voice quality remaining intact. The noise canceller only acts when the noise is actually present in a quiet environment, the canceller remains in a hands-off state without affecting pure speech. The noise cancellation process in your EVOQ is a fast-converging, low delay technology that cuts out background noise in both incoming and outgoing channels, simultaneously. Getting to know it Getting technical Getting connected Getting the best Getting problems?
Getting legal 5 The Qstik EVOQ user guide Informing SpEECH LEVEL CONTROL (SLC) fEATURES:
The level controller in your EVOQ constantly monitors the level of noise in your surroundings, to compensate for any changing background noise. It then adjusts the volume control automatically. Simply set the initial volume level to suit your hearing in a quiet environment and let your EVOQ do the rest. The SLC process has low delay, no impact on the quality of speech, fast convergence time and a capped maximum volume level to reduce the risk of damage to your hearing. Using Bluetooth headsets in noisy environments or at high volume levels can potentially damage your hearing. Features such as Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Acoustic Shock Protection (ASP) cancel the noise mixed with the incoming signal and reduce the overall sound exposure levels received through the headset. These technologies enhance voice quality and take significant steps in reducing the risk of noise-induced hearing loss while maintaining minimum volume levels necessary for the headset to function properly. Your EVOQ is also equipped with automatic Speech Level Control (SLC), which adjusts the volume automatically depending on the ambient noise in your surroundings so that you can hear the speech more clearly. At Qstik we take hearing protection very seriously indeed and to this end we have provided a mechanism that if necessary you can disable the SLC so that you (the user) can determine the maximum volume setting suitable for your hearing. You may wish to disable the SLC if you have sensitive hearing, or have suffered from Tinnitus
(symptoms are ringing in the ear), or simply wish to manually control the volume level to maximise your hearing protection. Getting to know it Getting technical Getting connected Getting the best Getting problems?
Getting legal 6 The Qstik EVOQ user guide Informing How to disable the automatic Speech Level Control (SLC):
You can disable the SLC during standby only, when your EVOQ is not used for conversation or listening to music. Simply press and hold the main function button together with the volume down button for 2 seconds or until the Red LED flashes 4 times to confirm SLC is inactive. Repeat the press and hold of the same buttons for 2 seconds to re-activate the SLC feature, this is confirmed by RED LED staying on for 3 seconds. Disabling the SLC does not disable other voice quality features such as noise cancellation or shock protection. Your EVOQ will remember your chosen setting for SLC through power cycling, therefore turning your headset OFF and ON again does not change your chosen setting of SLC. ECHO CANCELLATiON fEATURES:
Mobile devices such as handsets, headsets or hands-free kits can generate what is known as acoustic echo. Its often exaggerated due to the mobile network delays and can be annoying. Your EVOQ makes use of the latest technology in echo cancellation, incorporating an Adaptive Acoustic Echo Canceller (AAEC) which is fully optimised for wireless communication. Its highly adaptable to the changes in echo path, with its fast-converging, low delay technology constantly re-tuning and updating its digital filters to ensure optimum voice quality. If there is no echo present, the AAEC remains in a hands-off state. Getting to know it Getting technical Getting connected Getting the best Getting problems?
Getting legal 7 The Qstik EVOQ user guide Informing Bi-DiRECTiONAL ACOUSTiC SHOCk LimiTER fEATURES:
Acoustic shocks can be defined as short-duration loud sounds, such as shouts, shrieks, coughing, bangs, or any other unwanted loud sound which can potentially damage the hearing. The likelihood of hearing damage increases dramatically when shocks are closely coupled into the ear-canal, such as when using a telephone, a mobile handset or a headset. The EVOQs Bi-directional Acoustic Shock Limiter
(B-ASL) technology is designed to protect against excessive loudness of any sound. The EVOQs shock limiter is implemented in both incoming and outgoing directions, benefiting the user as well as the caller at the other end.
