HOW IT WORKS The Smart Dog Wireless Fence is easily installed in 15 minutes or less with only minor assembly, When installed, the solar-powered transmitter emits a circular signal field (adjustable to a maximum diameter of 50 feet or 2000 sq. ft.) that establishes a radio-frequency link with a collar receiver worn around your dog's neck. When your dog is wearing the collar and approaches the edge of the signal field, he receives a tone along with a harmless correction stimulus, reminding him to retreat to the safe part of the yard. The audible tone sounds simultaneously to let you know that the dog has received correction, Note that the Smart Dog Wireless Fence contains a back-up battery to power it during periods of reduced sunlight (up to 20 days under optimum conditions), For best results, however, the transmitter must be placed in an area where it can consis-
tently receive direct sunlight. Failure to do so may result in inconsistent operation. Also note that the solar cell is situated on top of the transmitter unit. Therefore the top of the transmitter must be kept clear of snow, leaves, or other material or debris that could block sunlight from the solar cell. ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION Transmitter:
1. Remove all components from the packaging. 2. Select the area in which you would like your dog(s) to be contained. Note: The Wireless Fence provides a circular containment area with a maximum diameter of 50' (2000 sq. ft.). You may wish to position the Wireless fence so that its contain-
ment area overlaps any doorways, etc., which your dog will use to enter the yard. For proper operation, the solar-powered transmitter must be placed in an area where it will receive consistent direct sunlight. Do not position the transmitter under trees, awnings, or other obstructions that may block the sun. 3. Anchor the pointed end of the stake firmly into the ground so that approximately 8" of the stake is visible. The stake should be anchored at a 90-degree angle to the grounds surface. If itis necessary to use a hammer to insert the stake into the ground, do not pound directly on the top of the stake as this may deform it. Place the supplied plastic cap on top of the stake and hammer on the top of the cap until the stake is anchored. 4. Attach supplied external attenna to transmitter. Loosen the lock nut on the underside of the transmitter unit by turning it counterclockwise. 6. Insert the squared-off end of the ground stake into the lock nut on the transmitter. If the stake does not enter the lock nut easily, loosen the lock nut until it does, 7. Seat the stake firmly in the locknut and tighten by turning the locknut clockwise with the fingers or a crescent wrench. 8. Remove any labels or packaging debris from the transparent surface of the transmitter's solar cell. 9. To turn the transmitter ON, turn the dial switch located on the underside of the unit clockwise. Status LED will turn solid Green for 15 sec then begin to blink. Blinking Status LED:
+ Green: Okay
+ Red: Low Battery
+ Yellow: Built-in Test Failure (Call customer service) Turning the switch all the way clock-
wise will provide the largest coverage area
(50' diameter). To decrease the coverage area, turn the switch counterclockwise until the desired coverage area is obtained. To turn the transmitter OFF, turn the switch all the way counterclockwise. Collar Receiver Battery Installation Procedure: Place the collar with the battery cap up, on a flat surface. Insert the 3V Lithium battery into the unit positive side up. Place the cap on the battery and press down until the LED on the unit begins flashing. Being careful to keep the cap making contact, screw the battery cap firmly into place. If the unit doesn't flash when the cap is pushed down: Remove the battery cap and hold the magnetic key to the RED dot for approximately 15 seconds. Repeat the battery installation procedure. If after several attempts, the unit does not power up properly, call the Innotek Customer Service number
(1-800-826-5527). Using a coin or a screw-
driver, unscrew the nickel-
plated battery compart-
ment cover from the collar receiver. Insert the 3-volt lithium battery (included) into the battery compartment positive(+) side out. Replace the battery compartment cover. Turn the transmitter ON and set for maximum cov-
erage area (full clockwise setting). Holding the collar receiver within the transmitters coverage area, turn the collar receiver ON by touching the red paper dot on the collar receiver with the external magnet. The indicator lamp on the collar receiver turns green momentarily and then blinks green. This indicates proper functioning. To prevent interference from other adjacent trans-
mitters, the WF-100 trans-
mitter initializes itself with a random ID when it is turned on. For the collar unit to work with the trans-
mitter, it must acquire the transmitters ID code. The collar unit enters ACQUIRE mode automati-
cally when a new battery is installed or if the mag-
net is held continuously to the red dot until a solid Yellow light is diplayed along with an audible tone. The collar unit will continue to blink Yellow until it receives a transmi-
sion from the transmitter. At that time the collar unit will blink Green to indicate normal operation. NOTE: The WF-100 transmitter i igned t be left_on continuously ir iel width is set. If the WF-100 transmitter is turned off, it will set a different ID code upon being turned back on. In this case the collar unit will need to be put into Acquire mode to re-sync to the transmitter. Blinking Status LED indicator on collar:
Green: Okay Yellow: Unit is in Acquire mode - transmitter signal not present Red: Low battery condi-
tion within unit - replace battery Alternate Red/Green:

(call customer service) No blinking: Unit is OFF or No transmitter signal present 7. The INNOTEK WF-100 system uses a progres-
sively increasing correc-
tion level to allow your dog to respond to the min-
imum possible level of correction. The correction level is started at a very low level and progressive-
ly gets stronger until the animal returns to the safe zone. Also, to protect your animal from over-stimula-
tion in the event it is caught outside of the safe zone, a maximum correc-
tion exposure is programmed into the unit. The unit will only apply 40, 4 sec corrections then will cease corrections until the animal is exposed to the safe zone for a mini-
mum of 5 sec. After the animal is within the safe zone for 5 sec, the unit is reset and corrections will be applied if the animal tries to leave the safe zone. 8. The Wireless Fence can accommodate multiple dogs. Additional collar receivers are available separately as Model WF-025A, Adjusting/Marking Coverage Area 1. Turn the transmitter ON and set for maximum cov-
erage area (full clockwise setting). 2. Turn the collar receiver ON by touching the red paper dot on the collar receiver with the magnetic end of the external mag-
net key. 3. Grasping the collar receiver by its case, NOT by its probes, begin walk-
ing slowly away from the transmitter until the audi-
ble tone sounds. This tone denotes the maxi-
mum operating boundary. 4, To decrease coverage area, turn the transmitter dial switch approximately 116 of a turn and repeat Step 3 until the desired coverage area is
: obtained. Once the cover-
age area is established leave the transmitter on. 5. Insert the boundary flags into the ground evenly along the perimeter (outer edge) of the coverage area. Training Your Dog 1, When you have inserted the boundary flags along the perimeter of the coverage area, leash your dog and enter the circle of flags with him. 2. Turn ON the collar receiver using the procedures outlined above. Put the neck strap on your dog with the two stainless steel probes pointing inward toward the dogs neck. Tighten the neck strap until you can barely slide one finger between the neck strap and the dogs neck. Note: two sets of probes have been supplied for use with your Wireless Fence. Use the shorter probes for short-
haired dogs; the longer for long-hair dogs. Both probes must be the same height when attached to the collar receiver or the unit will not function properly. NOTE: Special probes are available for thick-haired dogs. Dummy collars, which are non-operational but get the dog used to wearing a training collar, are also available. 5. Allow the dog to approach the boundary flags. Observe his reaction. If he shows no sign of receiving stimulus as he reaches the circle of flags, check to make sure that both the collar receiver and the transmitter are turned ON. If difficulty persists, call the Innotek Call Center at 800.826.5527 or 219.357.3148 (US) for assistance. 6. After a week or so, remove every other boundary flag. After another week, remove the remaining flags. By this time your dog should have learned which areas of your yard are off-limits. NOTE: To remove dog from safe area swipe magnet to turn unit OFF (LED should turn RED and a tone should be heard). Remove collar from dog. It is now safe to walk your dog out of the safe zone without danger of correction. MAINTENANCE The WF-100 Solar-Powered Wireless Fence requires very little maintenance. The col-
lar receiver may be wiped clean. (Remove collar receiver from neck strap first. Do not immerse collar receiver in water or other liquid.) The transmitter may be wiped down with a mild water-based soap solution. Do not use any solution containing alco-
hol or petroleum-based solvents. Never immerse the transmitter in any liquid.
