With its unique capabilities the MCW4 can become a vital part of your business and change the way you monitor and control your operations. This guide contains operating instructions that explain how to use your new WIRELESS DATA RELAY, and it provides helpful suggestions for first-time, as well as experienced, users. Effective Use Of Wireless Data Relay Wireless Data Relay can help you keep in touch and in control of the processes vital to your operation. By remotely monitoring and controlling your operations you can be in command whenever needed. FCC Compliance This device complies with part's 2, 15 and 90 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that which the receiver is connected. Consult a Remtrol technician for help. Safety Information Read this information before using a WIRELESS DATA RELAY. First introduced in 2001, the WIRELESS DATA RELAY is one of the most exciting and innovative electronic products ever developed. With it, you can monitor and control processes throughout the country from anywhere in the world. For the safe and efficient operation of Wireless Data Relay, observe these guidelines:
Wireless Data Relay is a radio transmitter and receiver. When it is ON, it receives and also sends out radio frequency (RF) energy. The WIRELESS DATA RELAY transmitter operates in the frequency range of 806 MHz to 825 MHz, and the receiver operates in the range of 851 MHz to 870 MHz. The unit transmits at a power level of 2.0W for short periods of time (from 0.021 to 1.10 seconds). Transmissions occur infrequently and usually follow within a few seconds of a packet that has been received or at scheduled program times. 2 In 1991, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and in 1992, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), updated the 1982 ANSI Standard for safety levels with respect to human exposure to RF energy. Over 121 scientists, engineers, and physicians from universities, government health agencies and industry, after reviewing the available body of research, developed this updated standard. In March 1993, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed the adoption of this updated standard. The design of Wireless Data Relay complies with this update. Electronic Devices Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF energy, however, RF Energy from Wireless Data Relay may effect inadequately shielded electronic equipment. Check with the manufacturer or it's representative to determine if the Following equipment or systems are adequately shielded from external RF Energy:
Motor Vehicle electronic and entertainment systems (standard and any add-on equipment. Medical Equipment, hospital or personal (such as pacemakers, hearing aids, etc.). Turn OFF Wireless Data Relay in health care facilities when any regulation posted in the areas instructs you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy. Getting Started Installation Warning to minimize RF exposure the Remtrol MCW4 must be mounted at least 20 cm from the nearest person. Your MCW4 can be mounted using a variety of methods. You must consider the operating environment when choosing a mounting option. For example, extreme temperature, heavy vibration, or high electromagnetic interference areas may require a special mounting solution. The MCW4 has a threaded hole in diagonal corners which may be used to bolt the MCW4 to the side of the equipment being monitored, an equipment backboard or pole. The two holes are diagonally apart on a rectangle 2.351in by 4.056in with each hole threaded for 1/4" bolts. It should be mounted so that a separation distance of at least 20cm (8in) is maintained between the body of the user and the MCW4. The MCW4 can be mounted indoors in most urban areas. When used inside a building, performance is improved if the antenna is located near a window, with few obstacles (wall, furniture, equipment, etc.) between the antenna and the window. The antenna must be oriented vertically for best performance. 3 Power Supply Power Adapter Your MCW4 comes with a 5VDC, 2.4A, power adapter. Plug this into the wall outlet. This provides power to maintain the rechargeable Batterypack. Optional power supplies are available. Solar Power converters and deep discharge batteries can be used where AC is not available. Battery Information Your MCW4 operates with a Batterypack (do not use any other batteries). The batteries are recharged from an external power source. The batteries will power the Wireless Data Relay for up to 3 days without being recharged. The number of readings and transmissions will affect the life of the battery charge. The batteries will recharge in 3 hours. The Batterypack is provided with Wireless Data Relay. The Batterypack comes already installed in your Wireless Data Relay. You will be sent a new Batterypack when diagnostics indicate the end of its useful-life. The Batterypack should last between 3 and 5 years depending on usage cycles. Note: This product may contain a Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) rechargeable battery that must be recycled or disposed of properly. Recycling facilities may not be available in all areas. Installing/Replacing The Battery Holding the WIRELESS DATA RELAY face up unscrew the four corner screws. Lift the cover off. Remove the old Batterypack, by disconnecting the lockin connector. Insert a new Batterypack by inserting the lockin connector into the receiver. Replace the cover making sure the 'O' ring seals tightly. Antenna The DataTAC network is based on vertically polarized radio-frequency transmission. Therefore the antenna should be oriented so that it provides vertical polarization. The antenna supplied with the MCW4 is the Radial/Larsen 3.5" 1/4 wave whip antenna. Physical Properties Weight The MCW4 weighs 1.5 lbs. Dimensions The MCW4 is housed in a powder coated, diecast, and watertight aluminum box. Length 4.5", Width 3.5", Height 2.2" (114 x 89 x 56 cm) Control Buttons There is only one button, located on the bottom of the WIRELESS DATA RELAY. This is the Start/Reset Button. 4 Turning Your Wireless Data Relay On Press the start/reset button to turn your Wireless Data Relay on. The WIRELESS DATA RELAY has an LED that flashes when it is establishing connectivity and then turns off. Go to the Remtrol.com Website and sign in using your USER-ID and PASSWORD. Turning Your Wireless Data Relay Off The WIRELESS DATA RELAY be turned off by the controlling user using the admin page of the website. The Wireless Data Relay can be turned off in the field by pressing and holding the start/reset button in for 4 seconds. You can put your Wireless Data Relay into power save mode to save battery power only through the Website. (THE WIRELESS DATA RELAY WILL NOT TAKE READINGS, TRANSMIT OR RECEIVE MESSAGES WHEN THE UNIT IS TURNED OFF OR NOT WITHIN THE COVERAGE AREA.)
