Operating safety Important safety notes G WARNING Operating the integrated information systems and communications equipment in the vehicle while driving will distract you from traffic con-
ditions. You could then lose control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident. Only operate these devices if road traffic con-
ditions permit. If you are unsure about the surrounding conditions, pull over to a safe location and make entries only while the vehi-
cle is stationary. Observe the legal requirements for the coun-
try you are currently in. Bear in mind that, at a speed of only 50 km/h, your vehicle is covering a distance of nearly 14 m per second. When using the device please follow:
Rthe safety notes in these operating instruc-
tions Rtraffic laws and regulations Rlaws pertaining to motor vehicles and safety standards i Improper work on electronic components or other systems (such as the radio and disc slot) and their software may result in malfunction or failure. Even systems that have not been modified could be affected because the electronic systems are con-
nected. Malfunctioning electronics can severely impair the operating safety of the vehicle. Therefore, have all work on and modifica-
tions to electronic components carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. Correct use ally, the Bluetooth CD radio can make calls via the Bluetooth function. Observe the specified requirements for data carriers and permissible formats. Equipment This Supplement describes the CD radio with all standard and optional equipment available at the time of going to print. Country-specific deviations are possible. Bear in mind that the CD radio may not be equipped with all of the functions described. This also applies to safety-relevant systems and functions. The equipment level of your CD radio may there-
fore differ from that shown in some descrip-
tions and illustrations. Contact a Mercedes-
Benz Service Centre if you have any questions about equipment or operation. This Supplement is an integral part of the vehicle. Keep it in the vehicle along with the Operating Instructions. Declaration of conformity Vehicle components that receive and/or transmit radio waves The following note refers to all components of the vehicle which receive and/or transmit radio waves and the integrated information systems and communications equipment in the vehicle:
i The components of the vehicle that receive and/or transmit radio waves are compliant with the basic requirements and all other relevant regulations stipulated by Directive 1999/5/EC. You can obtain fur-
ther information from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. The CD radio can be used to receive radio stations as well as to play back audio com-
pact discs and other data carriers. Addition-
Electromagnetic compatibility The electromagnetic compatibility of the vehi-
cle components has been checked and certi-
Z 8 Introduction fied according to the currently valid version of Directive ECE-R 10. Copyright information Registered trademarks Bluetooth technology is the standard for short-range wireless data transmission of up to approximately 10 metres. Bluetooth is a registered trademark of Blue-
tooth Special Interest Group (SIG) Inc. Qualified specialist workshop Therefore, have all work on and modifications to electronic components carried out at a qualified workshop. It has the necessary spe-
cialist knowledge and tools for the work required. In particular, work relevant to safety or on safety-related systems must be carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. A Mercedes-Benz Service Centre is a qualified specialist workshop. Anti-theft protection In order to render the CD radio useless for thieves, it is protected by a four-digit code. The code for your CD radio comes with this Supplement. If the CD radio has been discon-
nected from the voltage supply, you will need to enter the code after switching the CD radio on. ary. Notes on AUX mode There are two methods of connecting exter-
nal devices via AUX sockets to the CD radio:
Ron the front of the device Rat the rear of the device i Do not operate external devices using a power source that is connected to the vehi-
cle's own 12 V power supply. This may affect the playback quality. i Optional equipment fitted at the factory may already occupy the AUX socket at the rear. Selecting the AUX function Audio AUX mode 23 i o d u A Playing back the external device through the CD radio's loudspeakers External devices that are connected via the front or rear AUX socket to the CD radio can be played back through the loudspeakers of the CD radio. Connect external devices via the stereo line out to the CD radio so that the volume level is correct. If a device is connected to the head-
phone socket, the volume balance is upset. The volume at the headphone socket has to be increased by a far greater amount to be played back correctly through the CD radio. i When traffic messages are played back, the volume may be significantly higher due to the differing volume levels of the exter-
nal devices. In some circumstances it may be advisable to deactivate the TP function or to manually adjust the traffic message volume to suit (Y page 17). To increase the volume at the headphone socket, do the following:
X Set the volume of the CD radio to a pleas-
ant, moderate value. X Select the desired AUX function. AUX FRONT or AUX REAR-MAN appears in the display. X Connect the external device to the desired X Connect the external device and switch it AUX socket. on. i For the rear AUX socket you will need an adapter cable from Mercedes-Benz acces-

tortion. X Set the desired volume on the CD radio. X Press the SRC button repeatedly until AUX FRONT or AUX REAR-MAN appears in the dis-

When the CD radio is switched on it re-establishes the connection automatically. Deactivating the Bluetooth function X Press and hold the = button. BT OFF appears in the display briefly. The connection to the mobile phone has been interrupted. 26 Bluetooth operation Bluetooth operation Notes on Bluetooth function Introduction To make use of the Bluetooth function, you need a Bluetooth-capable mobile phone. i Information on the Bluetooth-capable mobile phones recommended by Mercedes-Benz is available from a qualified specialist workshop or on the Internet at:
www.mercedes-benz.com/connectivity h t o o t e u B l Important safety notes G WARNING Operating communications equipment inte-
grated into the vehicle while driving will dis-
tract you from traffic conditions. You could then lose control of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident. Only operate these devices if road traffic con-
ditions permit. If you are unsure about the surrounding conditions, pull over to a safe location and make entries only while the vehi-
cle is stationary. Also observe the legal requirements for the country you are currently in. i Excessive electromagnetic radiation may constitute a health hazard to yourself and others. The possible health risk posed by electro-
magnetic fields is the subject of scientific discussion. You can reduce this risk by using an exterior aerial. Therefore, connect your mobile communi-
cations equipment to the vehicle's exterior aerial wherever possible. Pairing a mobile phone Requirements The following requirements must be met for the CD radio to detect the mobile phone:
Rthe mobile phone must be in the vicinity of the CD radio. Rthe Bluetooth function of the CD radio must be activated. Rthe mobile phone must be ready for pairing. i The CD radio stores pairing information for up to 5 mobile phones in order to rec-
ognise and connect them automatically. If paired with another mobile phone, the CD radio overwrites the pairing data for the mobile phone that has not been connected to it for the longest period of time. i The CD radio automatically downloads the phone book stored on the mobile phone
