What is SureConnect?
The XM SureConnect connects your XM radio to your FM antenna. Here are the basic tasks youll complete during installation:
Make sure your XM radio and XM antenna are properly installed in your vehicle.
Affix the XM SureConnect to the FM antenna. 3 Run the cable along the best path from the FM antenna to your XM radio. 4 Connect your XM antenna to the coupling module. Connect the XM SureConnect cable to the antenna jack on the XM car cradle. 5 Turn it on and tune it in. This guide provides detailed step-by-step instructions for each of those tasks. It usually takes about 30 minutes to complete the installation. No special tools are needed. Need help? Call Listener Care at 1-800-XM-RADIO (1-800-967-2346) or contact us at www.xmradio.com.
Getting Started Its a good idea to familiarize yourself with the XM SureConnect before installing it. Its mounted either on the inside or the outside of your vehicle. Use the FM Direct wired installation instead (sold separately).
Snap the coupling clip to the base of the FM antenna as shown.
Slide the boot down the FM antenna and press it into place so it covers the clip. 3 Use the cable wrap to secure the cable to the FM antenna.

Installing with an Outside FM Antenna 4 Route the cable:
TIP! Make sure the door does not pinch the cable when closed. TIP! Always cross the weather seals at the lowest point possible to reduce water leaks. TIP! Always hand wash or use brushless or touch-free car washes to avoid damaging the XM SureConnect. If the FM antenna is on the front of the vehicle, route the cable across the weather seal near the bottom of the door. Then tuck the XM SureConnect cable into the door jam and up to the dash or under the carpet to the radio as shown. Tuck the XM SureConnect cable under the door jam trim or under the carpet to the radio as shown.
Installing with an Inside FM Antenna
Locate the FM antenna on the inside of your vehicle. CAUTION: Do not attach the XM SureConnect to the rear defogger elements. The antenna is usually in the upper 6 to 8 inches of the rear window with the defogger located below it. The antenna has open ends (as shown) while the defogger has closed ends. If you look beyond the tinting, you may be able to see the single contact point for the antenna (the defogger has two contacts on opposite sides). single contact

Installing with an Inside FM Antenna
Clean the glass where the FM antenna is located. Make sure the surface is warm (but not hot) and completely dry before continuing. TIP! Use your vehicles air conditioning or defogger to keep the surface dry during installation. 3 Position the contact bracket so the arrows align with the antenna. The arrows indicate the location of the contact strip underneath which must be in contact with the FM antenna. The bracket may be mounted either vertically or horizontally, whichever position allows the most room to attach the coupling clip and run the cables without blocking the drivers view. TIP! In some cases, it is easier to position the bracket on the inside of the glass while viewing it from outside the vehicle. Ask a friend to help. 4 When you have determined the proper position for the bracket, remove the liners from the adhesive pads and press it into place. Hold the bracket firmly against the glass for 10 to 15 seconds. TIP! If the bracket is not in the proper position, you only have a few seconds to make an adjustment. TIP! Adhesive reaches full strength after 24 hours.

0 Installing with an Inside FM Antenna
Route the cable behind the trim and liners. Determine the best route for the cable. CAUTION! Leave enough slack in the cable so it does not pull the contact strip away from the antenna. XM Antenna SureConnect FM Antenna If the FM antenna is on the front window, the best route from the clip is usually along the windshield edge, down to the window liner, along the floor, and up to the dash. If the FM antenna is on the rear window, the best route from the clip is usually along the window edge to the window liner. From the rear pas-
senger compartment, tuck the cable under the carpet or door trim until you reach the dash. FM Antenna XM Antenna SureConnect

Uninstalling XM SureConnect If you need to remove the XM SureConnect:
Disconnect the cable from the antenna jack on the XM car cradle. Disconnect the XM antenna from the coupling module.
For an outside FM antenna, remove the wrap, if applicable. Remove the boot. Remove the coupling clip. 3 For an inside FM antenna, remove the coupling clip by lifting the end where the cable enters the clip. TIP! Check that all connections are fi rm and secure. Make sure the cigarette lighter/auxiliary power socket is clean and free of corrosion. If you are using XpressRC in your vehicle, check the 12V adapter fuse by unscrewing the ribbed end of the 12V adapter. If required, replace with a 1-amp fuse only. If the 12V adapter does not have a removable end-cap, it has an internal fuse that resets itself after it is left unplugged for a period of time. If you see this on the screen:
No signal Antenna Try this Make sure the XM antenna is mounted outside of the vehicle. Move your XM antenna away from the obstructed area. For example, if you are parked in an underground garage, you should receive a signal after leaving the garage. If you are using XpressRC at home, move the antenna to a south-facing window. Make sure that the antenna cable is fi rmly and securely plugged into the cradle. Make sure the cable is not bent or broken. Turn XpressRC off , then on, to reset this message. 67 Troubleshooting If you see this on the screen:
Off Air Loading Updating If this happens:
XpressRC shuts off unexpectedly You do not receive all the XM channels you subscribed to No audio Try this The channel youve selected is not currently broadcasting. Tune to another channel. Your XpressRC is acquiring audio or program information from the XM signal. This message usually goes away in a few seconds. XM is updating your XpressRC with the latest encryption code. Wait until the update is done. OR You may be trying to tune to a channel that is blocked or unavailable. Tune to another channel. No program information, such as artist name, song title, or channel exists. Try this If the sleep timer is set, the XpressRC will turn off after the selected length of time. Turn off the Delayed Power feature. If you have not yet activated your XM Satellite Radio service, refer to Activation on page 22. Check all cables between your XpressRC and your stereo system for a fi rm and secure connection. No song title or artist name is displayed The information may not be available or updates may be in progress. If this happens:
No audio when listening to via an FM radio Audio fades or has static when listening Audio sounds too soft XM Instant Traffi c and Weather channels sound diff erent from other channels Try this Check that your XpressRC and your car radio are tuned to the same FM frequency. Check all cables for a fi rm and secure connection. If the problem persists, it might be interference from another FM channel. Refer to Setting the FM Frequency on page 52. Raise or lower the FM audio level until the sound quality improves. Refer to Setting the Line Out Level on page 54 These channels use a diff erent audio technology than the other XM channels so they often sound diff erent from other channels. 68 69 s n o i t a c i c e p S t c u d o r P 70 Product Speci cations RC Dimensions Xpress Remote 115 mm(W) X 63 mm(H) X 17 mm(D) 4.5 in (W) X 2.5 in (H) X 0.68 in (D) 40 mm (W) X 119 mm (H) X 14 mm (D) 1.5 in (W) X 4.7 in (H) X .55 in (D) Weight Xpress Remote RC 90 g (3.2 oz) 40 g (1.4 oz) ON Audio Output 3.5 mm mini-stereo jack Antenna Connector (car cradle) RM SMB External Power Voltage Current Polarity Remote Battery Type Voltage RC Model Numbers Xpress Xpress home kit Xpress car kit 5 V DC 2000 mA CR2032 3 V SA10316 XMH-10A XMC-10A 71 icepS tcudorP cations FCC Statement Patent Information It is prohibited to, and you agree that you will not, copy, decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, hack, manipulate, or otherwise access and/or make available any technology incorporated in receivers compatible with the XM Satellite Radio sys-
