By opening this product pack-
age and/or using the product you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree to the terms of this Agreement, do not open the product package and immediately return the unopened product package to Tait. If you open the product package, that will be deemed to be acceptance of the terms of this licence agreement. Licence In consideration of the payment of the Licence Fee, which forms part of the price you paid for products you acquired from Tait or its sub-
sidiary or agent (the products) and our willingness to be bound by the terms of this agreement, Tait grants to you as Licencee the non-
exclusive right to use the copy of a Tait software program included in the products (the Software). In particular, the Licencee may use the program on a single machine and if the software is supplied on a diskette, the licensee may:
(a) Copy the program into any machine readable or printed form for backup purposes in support of your use of the program on the single machine (certain programs, however, may include mech-
anisms to limit or inhibit copying; they are marked copy pro-
tected), provided the copyright notice must be reproduced and included on any such copy of the Software.
(b) Merge it into another program for your use on the single machine. (Any portion of this program merged into another pro-
gram will continue to be subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement.) The Licencee may not duplicate, modify, reverse compile or reverse assemble the Software in whole or part. Title to Software This agreement does not constitute a contract of sale in relation to the Software supplied to the Licencee. Not withstanding the Licen-
cee may own the magnetic or other physical media on which the 36 36 12/99 IPN: 409-00120-02 Software was originally supplied, or has subsequently been recorded or fixed, it is a fundamental term of this Agreement that at all times title and ownership of the Software, whether on the original media or otherwise, shall remain vested in Tait or third parties who have granted licences to Tait. Term and Termination This Licence shall be effective until terminated in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement. The Licencee may terminate this Licence at any time by destroying all copies of the Software and associated written materials. This Licence will be terminated auto-
matically and without notice from Tait in the event that the Licencee fails to comply with any term or condition of this Agreement. The Licencee agrees to destroy all copies of the Software and associated written materials in the event of such termination. Limited Warranty The Software is supplied by Tait and accepted by the Licencee as is without warranty of any kind either expressed or implied, includ-
ing but not being limited to any implied warranties as to merchant-
ability or fitness for any particular purpose. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the Software vests in the Licencee. Should the Software prove to be defective, the Licencee (and not Licensor or any subsidiary or agent of the Licensor) shall assume the entire cost of all necessary servicing, repair or correction. Tait does not warrant that the functions contained in the Software will meet the Licencees requirements or that the operation of the Software will be uninterrupted or error free. However Tait warrants that the diskettes if any on which the Software is supplied to the Licencee shall be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of delivery to the Licencee. Exclusion of Liability Taits entire liability and the Licencees exclusive remedy shall be:
1. The replacement of any diskette not meeting Tait limited war-
ranty and which is returned to Tait or an authorised agent or subsidiary of Tait with a copy of the Licencees purchase receipt; or If a diskette is supplied and if Tait is unable to deliver a replace-
ment diskette that is free from defects in material or workman-
ship, the Licencee may terminate this Agreement by returning the Software to Tait. 2. 12/99 IPN: 409-00120-02 37 37 3. 4. In no circumstances shall Tait be under any liability to the Licen-
cee, or any other person whatsoever, for any direct or conse-
quential damage arising out of or in connection with any use or inability of using the Software. Tait warrants the operation of the Software only with the operat-
ing system for which it was designed. Use of the Software with an operating system other than that for which it was designed may not be supported by Tait, unless otherwise expressly agreed by Tait. General The Licencee confirms that it shall comply with the provisions of law in relation to the Software. Law and Jurisdiction This Agreement shall be subject to and construed in accordance with New Zealand law and disputes between the parties concerning the provisions hereof shall be determined by the New Zealand Courts of Law. Provided however Tait may at its election bring proceedings for breach of the terms hereof or for the enforcement of any judgement in relation to a breach of the terms hereof in any jurisdiction Tait con-
siders fit for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the terms hereof or obtaining relief for breach of the terms hereof. No Dealings The Licencee may not sublicense, assign or transfer the licence or the program except as expressly provided in this Agreement. Any attempt otherwise to sublicense, assign or transfer any of the rights, duties or obligations hereunder is void. No Other Terms The Licencee acknowledges that it has read this agreement, under-
stand it and agree to be bound by its terms and conditions. The Licencee further agrees that this is the complete and exclusive state-
ment of the agreement between it and Tait in relation to the Software which supersedes any proposal or prior agreement, oral or written and any other communications between the Licencee and Tait relat-
ing to the Software (LS-589). 38 38 12/99 IPN: 409-00120-02 My Custom Settings Function Key Settings Short Press Long Press F1:

(NiCd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). NiCd batteries are the preferred choice for shelf life, service life, high transmit duty cycles, extreme temperatures and general use. NiMH Batteries are best suited to low transmit duty cycles where a long standby duration is required. Battery Safety Do not install or remove batteries in hazardous atmospheres as an explosion or fire could occur, even if the radio is qualified for use in such environments. A hazardous atmosphere has the potential for fire or explosion from dusts, gases, liquids and solids. Battery Storage u If storing the radio for long periods, remove the battery to ensure nopower loss. u For best results, discharge the battery until the low battery warningis given. u NiMH batteries can typically be useless after 2 years of storage at room temperature. Battery Shift Life Battery shift life is affected by many factors. For example:
u Trunked radios will generally use more power than conventional radios u 1500mAh is the minimum recommended battery size for trunked radios u A radio on standby will use less power than a radio that is used to transmit and receive regularly Battery Service Life u Battery service life is ultimately reduced by the number of charges and discharges, and the way it is treated. u Batteries can typically have a longer service life if there is some residual charge remaining after every shift prior to recharging, and if the battery is short conditioned every week. Installing the Battery Using the radio, lapel microphone and carry case Removing the Battery Accessories Contact your authorised Tait Dealer Antennas 6-Way Multi-Charger Battery Charger Battery Belt Loop u Store batteries in a cool and dry location, away from direct sunlight. u Long condition the battery after storage. Charging Batteries Tait Orca 5000 IMPORTANT Do not put Tait Orca 5000 batteries into older battery chargers such as the green button models. Tait Orca 5000 NiCd/NiMH batteries are ONLY for battery chargers with software version 207+. The software version number is on the label underneath the battery charger. Charging Batteries Tait Orca Elan, Excel and Eclipse All Tait Orca batteries (TOPB100, TOPB200, TOPB400, TOPB500, TOPB600,TOPB700) are compatible with Tait Orca radios and chargers (software version 207+). However, care needs to be taken to ensure appropriatechoice of belt clips and carry accessories. u Although important for battery maintenance, long conditioning and short conditioning affect the battery service life, and should therefore not be done more frequently than recommended. Battery Temperature u Temperatures below 20C (4F) will permanently damage NiMH u NiHM batteries are not recommended for temperatures below 0C
(32F) or above 40C (104F). batteries. Accessory Adaptors Headphones u NiCd batteries are more resistant to very warm and cold environments compared with NiMH. Place it down carefully. u Repairs and modifications must only be carried out by a Tait approved Battery Performance We recommend the use of a battery analyser to monitor the performance of batteries. Note that different analysers produce different results. To maintain the optimum performance of the battery:
Note: Excessive short and long conditioning will reduce the life of the battery. Follow these recommendations to maintain the optimum performance of the battery:
u Charge the battery as soon as the radio gives the low battery warning. u Short condition the battery weekly. u Long condition the battery only for the following reasons: on first use of newbattery, if performance is poor, and after more than two weeks of storage. u Do not charge a charged battery that has had little or no use. u Do not leave charged batteries in the charger for more than a day. u Turn the radio off when it is unattended for long periods. u Clean electrical contacts of the battery and charger weekly using a fibre glasspencil, or the graphite tip of a type 4h (#4) or harder pencil. u Use only batteries that are approved by Tait Electronics Ltd. Battery Problems Crystalline growth and the formation of inter-metallic compounds are the main causes of poor battery performance. Conditioning helps to break up crystalline formations that cause reduced surface area for charge and thus reduced capacity/shift life. Crystalline formations can cause self-discharge in extreme cases where the crystals grow through the separator. Conditioning also helps to break up the inter-metallic compounds that can form and cause resistance and thus reduced capacity/shift life. IMPORTANT: Excessive short and long conditioning will reduce the life of the battery. Follow these recommendations:
u Short condition the battery weekly. u Long condition the battery only for the following reasons: on first use section on Battery Performance. Remove by peeling apart of new battery, if performance is poor, and after more than two weeksof storage. * A typical duty cycle is: 5% transmit, 5% receive, 90% standby. This is based on a typical 8 hour shift plus 1 hour break. Recycle Recycle batteries that are of no use. Contact your authorised Tait dealer for more advice. Note for Accessories To use the belt loop, the accessory needs the D-clip fitting. For example: a lapel microphone. Installing the Radio and Carry Case Removing the Radio and Carry Case Slide the Carry Case upwards Rotate the Carry Case by 180 degrees Install the Belt Loop Install the Radio Install the Carry Case Install the clip u When transmitting, hold the radio microphone 2550mm (12 inches) from your mouth. u When transmitting, keep the antenna at least 25mm (1 inch) from any part of your body, especially your face and eyes. u Turn off the radio where radio waves could interfere with electronic devices. u Turn off the radio at fuel/gas stations. u Turn off the radio in an area where detonators/explosives are being used. u Turn off the radio before boarding/leaving an aircraft and whilst on board an aircraft. u Do not use the radio whilst driving vehicles or operating machinery. u Do not use earphones or headsets at high volume levels. u Do not transmit in frequency bands that are reserved for use by distress beacons, suchas 406 to 406.1 MHz. u Do not put the radio, battery or accessories in liquids as they will be damaged. u Do not allow children to play with the radio; it is not a toy. Hazardous Atmospheres A hazardous atmosphere has the potential for fire or explosion from dusts, gases, liquids and solids. Make sure of the following in hazardous atmospheres:
u Turn off the radio, unless the radio is qualified for use in hazardous atmospheres. u Do not replace batteries, even if the radio is qualified for use in hazardous atmospheres. u Do not use damaged radios. If the radio was originally qualified for use in such environments, the radio is not qualified if it has a cracked casing. u Do not modify the configuration of a radio that is qualified as intrinsically safe for use in hazardous atmospheres. If you do, it will not be qualified. Unfastenthe Clip andremove the Radio Electromagnetic Interference Turn off your radio where radio waves could interfere with electronic devices. Some facilities use equipment that is sensitive to Electromagnetic Interference such as: hospitals, medical centres, aircraft and some industrial facilities. Only use your radio in these situations if the radio is qualified for use in such areas. Note: The following warning applies to FCC approved radios in the 800 MHz and 900 MHzfrequency bands:

RF Exposure Compliance & Control Guidelines To control your exposure and ensure compliance with the occupational/controlled environment exposure limits always adhere to the following procedures. Guidelines:
I Do not remove the RF Exposure Label from the device. I User awareness instructions must accompany device when transferred to other users. I Do not use this device if the operational require-
ments described herein are not met. Operating Instructions:
I Transmit no more than the rated duty factor of 20%
of the time. To transmit (talk), push the Push-To-
Talk (PTT) button. To receive calls, release the PTT button. Transmitting 20% of the time, or less, is important because this radio generates measurable RF energy exposure only when transmitting (in terms of measuring for standards compliance). I When transmitting, hold the radio microphone 25 to 50 mm (1 to 2 inches) from your mouth. I When transmitting, keep the antenna at least 25 mm
(1 inch) from any part of your body, especially your face and eyes. I If you are not using a body-worn accessory and are not using the radio in the intended use position in front of the face, then ensure the antenna and the radio are kept at least 25 mm (1 inch) from the body when transmitting. Keeping the radio at the proper distance is important because RF exposures decrease with increasing distance from the antenna. I Use only Tait approved supplied or replacement antennas, batteries, and accessories. Use of non-Tait approved antennas, batteries and accessories may 1 1 exceed the FCC RF exposure guidelines. I When worn on the body, always place the radio in a Tait approved carrying accessory for this product. Using approved body-worn accessories is important because the use of Tait or other manufacturers non-
approved accessories may result in exposure levels which exceed the FCCs occupational/controlled environment RF exposure limits. For a list of Tait approved accessories, please visit the following website which lists approved accessories:
