Close door then disconnect opener using the manual release handle. DO NOT use transmitter or door operator. Refer to Door and Door Opener Owners Manuals before attempting any repairs. The universal remote can be programmed to operate many brands and types of garage door openers. Locate the brand and opener specifications by consulting the label on the opener head, the instruction manual, the current remote controls for the opener, or the original manufacturer of the opener. Below are the brands and specifications that this remote is compatible with and the methods that can be used to program them. Use Chart A below to find your opener/specification combination and then proceed to an available programming method. All combinations shown can be programmed using the CLONING METHOD. FACTORY DEFAULT: If at any time the remote needs to be cleared and returned to its factory default settings, press and hold down button #3 while pressing button #4 - four times. The blue LED will give a long blink and then go out. This will clear any existing programming and return the remote to its original factory default settings. OPTION 1: CLONING METHOD The Genie universal remote can clone an existing operational remote for any of the garage door opener brands/specification combinations listed in Chart A. PUT THE UNIVERSAL REMOTE INTO CLONING MODE & SELECT A BUTTON 1. Place the original remote and the Genie universal remote within 2 - 4 of each other. 2. Press and hold down the Genie universal remote button #1. 3. While still holding down button #1, press the universal remote button #2 - four times. 4. Release both buttons. The WHITE LED on the remote will begin flashing. You will have 20 seconds to complete your entry. 5. Hold down the existing operational button on the original remote until the new universal remote blinks change from slow WHITE BLINKS to rapid BLUE blinks. 6. Once the universal remote BLUE LED is blinking rapidly, press the button of choice on the universal remote slowly and deliberately. The LED will turn solid and then go out. PROGRAM THE UNIVERSAL REMOTE TO THE OPENER 1. Press the LEARN button on the garage door opener for 2-3 seconds and then release. 2. Press and release the button you just programmed slowly and deliberately several times until the garage door opener operates. If using Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button, see *ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS. If you are NOT using Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button, programming for this button is complete. OPTION 2: LEARN METHOD PUT THE UNIVERSAL REMOTE INTO LEARN MODE & SELECT A BUTTON 1. Press and hold down the Genie universal remote button #2. 2. While still holding down button #2, press the universal remote button #4 - four times. 3. Release both buttons. The BLUE LED on the remote will begin flashing. You will have 15 seconds to complete your entry. 4. Press the button of your choice on the universal remote the required number of times indicated in the LEARN METHOD column next to your opener and specification in Chart A. Wait the remainder of the 15 seconds. The blue LED will give a long blink and then go out. PROGRAMMING THE UNIVERSAL REMOTE TO THE OPENER 1. Press the LEARN button on the garage door opener for 2-3 seconds and then release. 2. Press and release the button you just programmed slowly and deliberately several times until the garage door opener operates. If using Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button, see *ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS. If you are NOT using Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button, programming for this button is complete. OPTION 3: QUICK START METHOD You may use 1 of the 4 manufacturer pre-set buttons on the remote as indicated below if you have any of these brands/specifications. If you have more than one of the same brand/MHz opener and/
or would prefer to use a different button than indicated for your brand by this method, please note that all 4 buttons can be programmed individually from each other. You may use any combination of programming methods available for your opener/specification combination to achieve your desired button setup. Press the LEARN button on the garage door opener for 2-3 seconds and then release. 2. Press and release the pre-set button on the universal remote that corresponds with your opener slowly and deliberately several times until the garage door opener operates. If using Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button, see *ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS. If you are NOT using Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button, programming for this button is complete.
* ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS:
For use with Chamberlain technology with a YELLOW LEARN button: At this time, the opener should have just activated and then stopped. When it stops, press the YELLOW LEARN button on the garage door opener again for 2-3 seconds and then release. Press the #2 pre-set button again one time or until the opener activates. Let the opener run until it stops. Programming for this button is complete. Changing the Battery:
