Christmas Tree Fire alert system IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When using electrical products, basic precautions should always be followed including the following:
a) READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. b) For indoor use only. c) The LifeKeeper is a seasonal product and is not intended for permanent installation or use. d) Do not mount or place near gas or electric heaters, fireplaces, candles or other similar sources of heat. e) This is an electrical product not a toy!
f) Do not use the LifeKeeper for other than its intended use. g) Do not cover the LifeKeeper with cloth, paper, or any material which is not part of the product. h) READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE MOLDED ON THE PRODUCT OR PROVIDED. i) SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. USE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS When the product is placed in a live tree, the tree should be well maintained by always keeping the tree stand filled with water. a) Make a fresh inch cut off the bottom of the tree trunk. LITTLE KNOWN FACT: If the fresh cutting is not performed a layer of sap will form at the bottom of the tree trunk. This sap will prevent proper water absorption by the tree. b) Place tree into tree stand as securely as possible leaving approximately inch space from the bottom of the tree trunk to the tree stand. If the tree trunk is flush to the tree stand, proper water distribution will be diminished. c) After the tree is stable and well secured in the tree stand place the HEAT SENSOR ANGEL inside the tree, approximately of the distance up from the bottom of the tree and close to the trunk of the tree. d) When storing, carefully remove the product from its current location and store in original packaging. e) When not in use, remove batteries to disable system and store the product in a cool dry location. PARTS INCLUDED BASE UNIT with ALARM (9 volt Alkaline Battery NOT Included) HEAT SENSOR ANGEL with LED ALERT (2 AAA Alkaline Batteries NOT Included) INSTALLATION AND RESET PROCEDURE THIS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 72 WITH REGARD TO INSTALLATION. Insert 2 fresh AAA (Alkaline only) batteries in the ANGEL. The two LEDs on the ANGELS wings will flash indicating correct operation. Install fresh 9 volt (Alkaline only) battery in the BASE UNIT. Keep the ANGEL a minimum of one (1) foot from the BASE UNIT. If the units are too close to one another they may not communicate properly. Press the button on the bottom of the ANGEL within 2 minutes of battery insertion. You will hear a single beep reported from the BASE UNIT, indicating that the units are synchronized. Move the BASE UNIT to its desired location. Wait for five (5) minutes. If the BASE UNIT remains silent, it is receiving messages from the ANGEL. You can verify this reception by having someone press the button on the bottom of the ANGEL while listening for a single beep from the BASE UNIT. If the beep is heard, the system is operating properly. If moving the BASE UNIT to a new location and a 3 beep signal is heard, repeat Step #5. Do not install BASE UNIT near a fireplace or other similar sources of heat. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) SAFETY FEATURE: The LED ALERT function of the ANGEL contains a 24 hour timer to remind you to check the water level in the tree stand. The LEDs will flash for 5 minutes every hour until you press the 24 Hour Reset (TEST) button on the ANGEL bottom. MAINTENANCE and TEST 1) To test system and/or when replacing batteries. a. Press the TEST button on the bottom of the ANGEL to sound a beep from the BASE UNIT. b. OPTIONALLY, direct the hot air from a hair dryer to the bottom of the ANGEL (pointing upwards). After a few seconds, the alarm will sound from the BASE UNIT. To silence the alarm, remove the batteries from both the BASE UNIT and the ANGEL and repeat the installation procedure (above). 2) The following are messages delivered by the BASE UNIT. a. A single beep repeating every 2 minutes indicates that the battery in the BASE UNIT needs to be replaced. b. A pair of beeps repeating every 2 minutes indicate that the batteries in the ANGEL need to be replaced. c. Three beeps repeating every 2 minutes indicate that the BASE UNIT is NOT receiving messages from the ANGEL and the system needs to be reset. The BASE UNIT may need to be placed closer to the ANGEL. d. A continuous 85dB alarm sounds when an over temperature (above 150F) is identified. THIS INDICATES AN EMERGENCY. 3) At the end of the season:
a. Remove the ANGEL from the tree. b. Remove the batteries from both the BASE UNIT and the ANGEL to prevent the batteries from leaking and damaging the unit. c. Place ANGEL and BASE UNIT in the original packaging for next year. SPECIAL NOTE In the event that your neighbor has a LifeKeeper in their home and a fire (or over temperature condition) is detected in their home, the BASE UNIT in your home may go into Alarm mode if the units are within range. Any of your neighbors other alert conditions will not affect your unit. CAUTION When replacing batteries use only new Alkaline batteries. Do Not Dispose of Batteries in Fire. Batteries May Explode or Leak. Batteries May Contain Mercury. Do Not Put in Trash. Recycle or Manage as Hazardous Waste. The LifeKeeper folks wish you a safe and Merry Christmas season.
