For more information about IP PBX configuration, see the M400 SC Administrator and Provisioning Manual, available at snomamericas.com. Handset installation involves both the the handset and the handset charger. The charger is powered using the supplied power adapter. The charger can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on a wall. Avoid placing the handset and charger too close to:
Communication devices such as television sets, DVD players, or other cordless telephones Excessive heat sources Noise sources such as a window with traffic outside, motors, microwave ovens, refrigerators, or fluorescent lighting Excessive dust sources such as a workshop or garage Excessive moisture Extremely low temperature Mechanical vibration or shock such as on top of a washing machine or work bench 12 DRAFT Installing the charger Install the charger as shown below. When you unpack the handset form the delivery box, you must switch on the handset using the provided key. Follow the steps below. You only have to do this once. To switch on the handset:
1. Insert the provided key into the hole at the bottom rear of the 8 8 handset. 9 9 10 10 2. Gently push the pin into the hole until you hear a click. 3. Remove the pin. Your handset will power on after five seconds. From now on, you can turn your handset off/on by pressing and holding the OFF/CANCEL button on the handset. 14 TEXTURE/FINISH TEXTURE/FINISH DRAFT Battery charging The handset screen indicates the battery status (see the table below). If necessary, place the handset in the charger to charge the battery. For best performance, keep the handset in the charger when not in use. The battery is fully charged after 11 hours of continuous charging. If the screen is blank, you need to charge the handset without interruption for at least 30 minutes to give the handset enough charge to use the telephone for a short time. Charging more than 7 hours. Fully charged at 11 hours. 15 DRAFT Opening the battery door Your handset battery is preinstalled. If you need to remove or insert the battery, follow the steps below. To remove or insert the handset battery:
1. Remove the three screws on the battery door. 2. Lift up the bottom of the battery door to remove it. 3. To remove the battery: Lift the end of the battery nearest the top of the handset, and unplug the battery connector from the socket. 4. To insert the battery: Plug the battery connector securely into the socket. Place the battery inside the handset battery compartment. 5. Hold the battery door at an angle and align the three notches at the top of the battery compartment. Push the bottom of the battery door down until it clicks into place. 6. Tighten the three screws to secure the battery door. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Use only the supplied rechargeable battery or replacement battery

If you do not use the handset for a long time, disconnect and remove the battery to prevent possible leakage. 16 DRAFT Handset Registration Registering the handset to the base station The handset is pre-registered to the base station. If the handset becomes deregistered, perform the registration procedure as follows. To register the handset:
1. Make sure the handset has a charged battery before proceeding. Make sure the base station is connected to power. 2. If the handset is displaying the message Press and hold handset locator key at base for 4 seconds, press OK and then go to step 10. 3. Press MENU on the handset. The Main Menu appears.

If prompted, enter the PIN on the handset, and then press OK to begin registration. The default PIN is 1592. The process takes up to 10 seconds to complete. When the first handset registers, it beeps and the screen displays Handset Registered. Press the MENU/SELECT button. If the handset fails to register, place it in the charger again for a few seconds, remove it and repeat the registration procedure. 17 DRAFT Deregistering the handset Before using the handset with a different base station, you must deregister the handset from the base station to which it is currently registered. To deregister the handset:

Energy-saving charging mode is deactivated after the handset registers to the base station. 18 DRAFT Maintenance Taking care of your telephone Your base station and cordless handset contain sophisticated electronic parts, so you must treat them with care. Avoid rough treatment. Place the handset down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect your products if you ever need to ship them. Avoid water You can damage your cordless telephone if it gets wet. Do not use the handset in the rain, or handle it with wet hands. Do not install the base station and handset near a sink, bathtub or shower. Electrical storms Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, take caution when using electric appliances during storms. Cleaning your telephone Your products have a durable plastic casing that should retain its luster for many years. Clean it only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild soap. Do not use excess water or cleaning solvents of any kind. Remember that electrical appliances can cause serious injury if used when you are wet or standing in water.
