This hearing aid is powered by an energy cell which is based on the fuel cell technology. Your hearing aid should be used with the refill unit, Widex Refill Unit EEC1 model, and the cartridge, Widex Cartridge EEC1 model. Use your hearing aid regularly, even if it takes some time getting used to it. Infrequent users do not usually get the full benefit of a hearing aid. NOTE Your hearing aid and its accessories may not look exactly as illustrated in this booklet. We also reserve the right to make any changes we consider necessary. Your hearing aid at a glance 1. Ventilation cover with filter 2. Push button 3. Earwire with receiver 6 123 4. Refill valve 5. Left/right identification. Blue indicates your left hearing aid, while red is for your right hearing aid. For further information on the ear-set, see the ear-set manual. The refill unit and cartridge Your hearing aid should be refilled once a day. To refill your hearing aid, use the refill unit, which contains a cartridge. 7 45 1. Sliding lid 2. Refill well 3. cessory) 5. Two AAA batteries 6. Battery lid It is recommended to use the refill unit and cartridge in well-ventilated areas. A new cartridge contains 16 ml of 80% methanol solution, corresponding to approximately four consecutive weeks of use for two hearing aids that are refilled on a daily basis and approximately six consecutive weeks of use for one hearing aid that is refilled on a daily basis. 8 126534 Important safety information Read these pages carefully before you begin using your hearing aids, refill unit and cartridge. Hearing aids can be dangerous if swallowed or used improperly. Swal-
lowing or improper use can result in severe injury or even fatalities. In case of ingestion, contact a doctor immediately and call the 24 Hour National Button Battery Ingestion Hotline at (202) 625-3333. Keep hearing aids, their parts, accessories and batteries away from chil-
dren, mentally disabled people and pets. The cartridge contains a methanol solution which is flammable and tox-
ic and can cause irritation to your skin, eyes and respiratory system. If your skin is exposed to the methanol solution, rinse it off immediately with plenty of water. If your eyes are exposed to the methanol solution, rinse it off immedi-
ately with plenty of water. Seek medical attention immediately. In case of ingestion of the methanol solution, rinse your mouth with wa-
ter immediately and try to induce vomiting. Seek medical attention im-
mediately. Take your hearing aids out when you are not using them. This will help to ventilate the ear canal and prevent ear infections. Contact your doctor or hearing care professional immediately if you sus-
pect you may have an ear infection or an allergic reaction. 9 Contact your hearing care professional if the hearing aid does not feel comfortable, or if it does not fit properly, causing irritation, redness or the like. Remove your hearing aids before showering, swimming or using a hair dryer. Do not wear your hearing aids when applying perfume, spray, gels, lotion or cream. Do not dry your hearing aid in a microwave oven this will damage it. Never use other peoples hearing aids and never allow others to use yours, as this could damage your hearing. Never use your hearing aids in environments where there may be explo-
sive gases, such as in mines, oil rigs, etc. Never try to open or repair your hearing aid yourself. Contact your hear-
ing care professional if you need to have your hearing aid repaired. Never use your hearing aid if it is broken, for example, if the hearing aid is leaking more than one drop of methanol solution. Your hearing aids contain radio communication technology. Always ob-
serve the environment in which you are using them. If any restrictions ap-
ply, you must take precautions to comply with these. Do not expose your hearing aids to extreme temperatures or high humid-
ity. Dry the hearing aids quickly with a soft cloth if they get wet, or if you perspire heavily. 10 Never smoke while refilling the hearing aid or replacing the cartridge. Use only the WIDEX A/S refill unit and cartridges with your hearing aids. Use of a cartridge not recommended by WIDEX A/S may compromise the system or create dangerous situations. Operating, storage and transportation conditions Operating conditions Your hearing aid has been designed to operate in everyday life situations, and it works in environmental conditions that are comfortable for you. You can wear your hearing aid during flights, but you should remove it before showering or swimming. You should only use your hearing aid briefly in a chlorinated environment. Regular use in an environment with chlorine, will result in a shorter lifetime for the energy cell. The specific operating conditions for your hearing aid are listed below:
Temperature Humidity Atmospheric pressure Minimum 0C (32F) 10% rH 750 mbar Maximum 50C (122F) 95% rH 1060 mbar 11 The energy cell in your hearing aid adjusts to changes in environmental con-
ditions. When wearing the hearing aid in situations with sudden changes, your hearing aid is likely to make a soft clicking or bubbly sound. In situa-
tions with extreme humidity, your hearing aid might temporarily turn off, and then you need to let it dry. Storage and transportation conditions Your hearing aid is sensitive to extreme conditions such as high temperature and should not be stored or transported in direct sunlight. See the specific storage and transportation conditions below:
Temperature Humidity Minimum 0C (32F) 10% rH Maximum 50C (122F) 90% rH You can find technical data sheets and additional information on your hear-
ing aids on https://global.widex.com. 12 THE HEARING AID Indications for use The hearing aid is indicated for individuals (22 years) with a range of hear-
ing loss from minimal (10 dB HL) to severe (90 dB HL) and all hearing loss configurations. It is to be programmed by licensed hearing care professionals (audiologists, hearing aid specialists, otolaryngologists) who are trained in hearing (re)ha-
bilitation. Intended use The hearing aids are intended as air conduction amplification devices to be used in everyday listening environments. The refill unit is intended to remove leftover solution from the hearing aid and refill the hearing aid with methanol solution. The cartridge is intended to supply the refill unit with methanol solution and to evaporate leftover solution. Refilling your hearing aid Low energy indication When the energy level on your hearing aid is running low, the hearing aid will play a sound signal. However, if the hearing aid suddenly runs out of power, there may not be a warning. Refill your hearing aid as soon as possi-
ble. 13 Daily use Your hearing aids need to be refilled every day. One refill provides energy to your hearing aid for 24 hours. We recommend that you make it a habit to refill them at approximately the same time every day this way your hear-
ing aids will always be ready when you need them. Place the refill unit horizontally on a stable sur-
face, like a table. Open the refill unit by sliding the sliding lid in the direction shown in the il-
lustration. If the centre LED is solid green, click the hear-
ing aid into the refill well. If the hearing aid is placed correctly, it will automatically start refilling. The centre LED will pulse yellow and you might experience weak vibrations or hear a noise from the refill unit. The refill takes less than 20 seconds. When the refill is complete, the centre LED will turn solid green again. Re-
move the hearing aid from the refill well. The hearing aid is now ready to use. 14 CLICK!You may see a wet spot or a drop of methanol solution at the hearing aid refill valve after refilling it. Wipe it off with a soft cloth before using your hearing aid. You might also see some methanol solution in the refill unit well after the refill. This will evaporate. NOTE Always make sure that the refill well and the hearing aid refill valve are com-
pletely clean and free of any residue before placing the hearing aid in the refill unit. If you have not refilled your hearing aids for several days, simply refill them as you normally do, but note that it can take up to 45 minutes before the hearing aids start working again after being refilled. NOTE If your hearing aid is turned on before refilling, it will also be turned on after refilling. Sometimes your hearing aid will automatically turn off and on during the refilling. Therefore, you may hear a sound signal. If your hearing aid is turned off before refilling, it will also be turned off after refilling. To turn the hearing aid on, press the push button. 15 You should only use your refill unit and cartridge in well-ventilated areas. For more information about the refill unit, please see the user instructions for the refill unit. Place the hearing aids in the enclosed end user case when you are not using them. If they are kept in an airtight bag or container, you might experience that they get damp and that they turn off. Take them out of the airtight bag or container and let them breathe. Using your drying box will speed up the evaporation. Similarly, you might experience that the hearing aids turn off if you are wearing very tight headgear that does not allow the hearing aids to breathe. Make sure that the ventilation cover on the hearing aid is never blocked. Turning the hearing aid on and off To turn the hearing aid on, press the push button. The hearing aid will play a sound signal to indicate that it is on, unless your hearing care professional has deactivated this function. To turn off the hearing aid, press and hold the push button for more than six seconds. NOTE If you have two hearing aids, turn them off by pressing and keeping down the push button for more than six seconds on both hearing aids. 16 NOTE You can also cup the hearing aid in your hand to verify that it is turned on. If it is on, it will whistle. Putting on and removing the hearing aid Putting on the hearing aid 1. Insert the ear-set in the ear while holding the lower part of the tube/earwire. Pulling the outer ear upwards and backwards at the same time can be helpful. 2. Then place the hearing aid behind the ear. The hearing aid should rest comfortably on the ear, close to your head. Your hearing aid can be fitted using different types of ear-sets. See the sep-
arate ear-set manual for more information about your ear-set. Removing the hearing aid Start by removing the hearing aid from behind the ear. Then take the ear-set carefully out of the ear canal while you hold the lower part of the tube/earwire. 17 12 Programs PROGRAMS Universal Quiet Comfort Transport Impact Urban Party Social Music USE For everyday use Special program for listening in quiet environ-

The hearing aid is only allowed to be carried on the person or in the hand luggage during the flight. The refill unit and the cartridges are allowed in both hand luggage and checked luggage. In total, two cartridges are allowed. This means that you can have one car-
tridge in your refill unit and can bring one extra. We recommend:
Check with your travelling agent or departure airport whether the Inter-
national Air Transport Association's (IATA) international guideline is fol-
lowed or whether special rules exist for fuel cells and fuel cell cartridges. If you carry your spare cartridge and your refill unit in your hand lug-
gage, make sure to handle them according to airport rules for liquids in hand luggage. Never try to refill your hearing aids on board the airplane. The above recommendations are stated in the IATA's Table 2.3.A Provisions for Dangerous Goods Carried by Passengers or Crew for fuel cells containing fuel, powering portable electronic devices and fuel cell cartridges, spare for portable devices. 30 REGULATORY INFORMATION The Widex Energy Cell technology is a micro fuel cell system and complies with IEC 62282-6-100 and IEC 62282-6-100 A1. Warning to hearing aid dispensers A hearing aid dispenser should advise a prospective hearing aid user to con-
sult promptly with a licensed physician (preferably an ear specialist) before dispensing a hearing aid if the hearing aid dispenser determines through in-
quiry, actual observation, or review of any other available information con-
cerning the prospective user, that the prospective user has any of the fol-
lowing conditions:
(i) Visible congenital or traumatic deformity of the ear.
(ii) History of active drainage from the ear within the previous 90 days.
(iii) History of sudden or rapidly progressive hearing loss within the previous 90 days.
(iv) Acute or chronic dizziness.
(v) Unilateral hearing loss of sudden or recent onset within the previous 90 days.
(vi) Audiometric air-bone gap equal to or greater than 15 decibels at 500 hertz (Hz), 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz.
(vii) Visible evidence of significant cerumen accumulation or a foreign body in the ear canal.
(viii) Pain or discomfort in the ear. 31 Special care should be exercised in selecting and fitting a hearing aid whose maximum sound pressure level exceeds 132 decibels because there may be risk of impairing the remaining hearing of the hearing aid user. Important notice for prospective hearing aid users Good health practice requires that a person with a hearing loss have a medi-
cal evaluation by a licensed physician (preferably a physician who special-
izes in diseases of the ear) before purchasing a hearing aid. Licensed physi-
cians who specialize in diseases of the ear are often referred to as otolar-
yngologists, otologists, or otorhinolaryngologists. The purpose of medical evaluation is to assure that all medically treatable conditions that may affect hearing are identified and treated before the hearing aid is purchased. Following the medical evaluation, the physician will give you a written statement that states that your hearing loss has been medically evaluated and that you may be considered a candidate for a hearing aid. The physician will refer you to an audiologist or a hearing aid dispenser, as appropriate, for a hearing aid evaluation. The audiologist or hearing aid dispenser will conduct a hearing aid evalua-
tion to assess your ability to hear with and without a hearing aid. The hear-
ing aid evaluation will enable the audiologist or dispenser to select and fit a hearing aid to your individual needs. If you have reservations about your ability to adapt to amplification, you should inquire about the availability of a trial-rental or purchase-option pro-
gram. Many hearing aid dispensers now offer programs that permit you to wear a hearing aid for a period of time for a nominal fee after which you may decide if you want to purchase the hearing aid. 32 Federal law restricts the sale of hearing aids to those individuals who have obtained a medical evaluation from a licensed physician. Federal law per-
mits a fully informed adult to sign a waiver statement declining the medical evaluation for religious or personal beliefs that preclude consultation with a physician. The exercise of such a waiver is not in your best health interest and its use is strongly discouraged. Children with hearing loss In addition to seeing a physician for a medical evaluation, a child with a hearing loss should be directed to an audiologist for evaluation and rehabili-
tation since hearing loss may cause problems in language development and the educational and social growth of a child. An audiologist is qualified by training and experience to assist in the evaluation and rehabilitation of a child with a hearing loss.
