MICROWAVE OVEN KOR-1P55 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Before operating this oven, please read these instructions completely. PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO EXCESSIVE MICROWAVE ENERGY
(a) Do not attempt to operate this oven with the door open since open-door operation can result in harmful exposure to microwave energy. It is important not to defeat or tamper with the safety interlocks.
(b) Do not place any object between the oven front face and the door or allow soil or cleaner residue to accumulate on sealing surfaces.
(c) Do not operate the oven if it is damaged. It is particularly important that the oven door close properly and that there is no damage to the: (1) door (bent), (2) hinges and latches (broken or loosened), (3) door seals and sealing surfaces.
(d) The oven should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone except properly qualified service personnel. WARNING-To reduce the risk of burns, electric shock, fire, injury to persons or exposure to excessive microwave energy:
1. Read all instructions before using the appliance. 12. Do not immerse cord or plug in water. 2. Read and follow the specific PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO EXCESSIVE MICROWAVE ENERGY found on page 1. 13. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. 14. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter. 3. This appliance must be grounded. To ensure continued protection against shock hazard, connect only to properly grounded outlet. See GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS found on page 3. 4. Install or locate this appliance only in accordance with the provided installation instructions. 5. Some products such as whole eggs and sealed containers - for example, closed glass jars-may explode and should not be heated in this oven. 6. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use corrosive chemicals or vapors in this appliance. This type of oven is specifically designed to heat, cook, or dry food. It is not designed for industrial or laboratory use. 7. As with any appliance, close supervision is necessary when used by children. 8. Do not operate this appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has been damaged or dropped. 9. This appliance should be serviced only by qualified service personnel. Contact nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment. 10. Do not cover or block any openings on the appliance. 11. Do not store this appliance outdoors. Do not use this product near water for example, near a kitchen sink, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, and the like. 15. Either:
a) When cleaning surfaces of door and oven that comes together on closing the door, use only mild, non-abrasive soaps or detergents applied with a sponge or soft cloth , or b) When separate cleaning instructions are provided, See door surface cleaning instructions on (page.9). 16. To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity:
a) Do not overcook food. Carefully attend appliance if paper, plastic, or other com-bustible materials are placed inside the oven to facilitate cooking. b) Remove wire twist-ties from paper or plastic bags before placing bag in oven. c) If materials inside the oven should ignite, keep oven door closed, turn oven off, and disconnect the power cord, or shut off power at the fuse or circuit breaker panel. d) Do not use the cavity for storage purposes. Do not leave paper products, cooking utensils, or food in the cavity when not in use. 17. Do not use this microwave oven to heat corrosive chemicals (for example, sulfides and chlorides). Vapours from such corrosive chemicals may interact with the contact and springs of the safety interlock switches thereby rendering them inoperable. 18. Keep the waveguide cover clean at all times. Wipe the oven interior with a soft damp cloth after each use. If you leave grease or fat anywhere in the cavity it may overheat, smoke or even catch fire when next using the oven. 19. Never heat oil or fat for deep frying as you cannot control the temperature and doing so may lead to overheating and fire. This equipment generates and uses ISM frequency energy and if not installed and used properly, that is in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, may cause interference to radio and television reception. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS This appliance must be grounded. In the event of an electrical short circuit, the grounding plug reduces the risk of electric shock by providing an escape wire for electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire with a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded. WARNING:
Improper use of the grounding can result in a risk of electric shock. Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properly grounded, and either :
(1) If it is necessary to use an extension cord, use only a 3-wire extension cord that has a 3-blade grounding plug, and a 3-slot receptacle that will accept the plug on the appliance. The screen is designed so that light can pass through, but not the microwave. 3 Door Hook - When door is closed, it will automatically shut off. If the door is opened while the oven is operating, magnetron will immediately stop operating. 4 Oven Cavity. 5 Door Seal - Door seal maintains the microwave energy within the oven cavity and prevents microwave leakage. 6 Plate Tray - Made of special heat resistant glass. Set the time control by turning the timer knob and then microwave cooking starts. If turning the timer knob for less than 2 minutes, turn it past 2 minutes and then back to the desired time. Microwave energy will be turned off automatically when the timer point to OFF. Then take out foods. To prevent the oven operating with the door open, your microwave oven is fitted with safety door interlock switches. If you wish to inspect the food during the cooking time, simply open the door. The oven will automatically stop cooking. To continue cooking, you simply close the door. If you wish to stop cooking during the cooking simply, turn the timer knob the point OFF. Cooking can be reset at any time during the cooking cycle by only turning the timer knob. Do not let the timer continue to operate after removing food. 7 COOKING INSTRUCTIONS Utensils should be checked to ensure that they are suitable for use in microwave ovens. UTENSILS TEST Place the utensil in question next to a glass measure filled with water, in the microwave oven. Microwave at high power for 1-2 minutes. If the water heats up, but the utensil remains cool, the utensil is microwave-safe. However if the utensil becomes warm, microwaves are being absorbed by the utensil and it should not be in the microwave oven. You probably have many items on hand in your kitchen right now that can be used as cooking equipment in your microwave oven. Read through the following checklist. COOKING UTENSILS Recommended Use Glass and glass-ceramic bowls and Dishes - Use for heating or cooking. Microwave browning dish - Use to brown the exterior of small items such as steaks, chops, or pancakes. Follow the directions provided with you browning dish. Microwaveable plastic wrap - Use to retain steam. Leave a small opening for some steam to escape and avoid placing it directly on the food. Wax paper - Use as a cover to prevent spattering. Paper towels, and napkins - Use for short term heating and covering; they absorb excess moisture and prevent spattering. Do not use recycled paper towels, which may contain metal and can eatch fire. Thermometers - Use only those labeled Microwave Safe and follow all directions. Check the food in several places. Conventional thermometers may be used once the food has been removed from the oven. Microwave cling film, microwave roasting bags - Microwave cling film and bags must be vented for steam to escape, pierce in 4~5 places. Do not use plastic or metal ties as they may melt or catch fire due to electrical arcing. Limited Use Aluminum foil - Use narrow strips of foil to prevent overcooking of exposed areas. Using too much toil can damage your oven, so be careful. Ceramic, porcelain, and stoneware - Use these if they are labeled Microwave Safe. If they are not labeled, test them to make sure they can be used safely. Never use dishes with metalic trim. Plastic - Use only if labeled Microwave Safe. Other plastics can melt. Thin plastic, paper, straw and wooden containers - Always attend the oven closely. Look at the oven from time to time when cooking or reheating food in disposable containers of plastic, paper or other combustible material. Only use for warming food. Pay special attention as over-heating may cause a fire in your oven. Not Recommended Glass jars and bottles - Regular glass is too thin to be used in a microwave, and can shatter. Paper bags - These are a fire hazard, except for popcorn bags that are designed for microwave use. Styrofoam plates and cups - These can melt and leave an unhealthy residue on food. Plastic storage and food containers - Containers such as margarine tubs can melt in the microwave. Metal utensils - These can damage your oven. Remove all metal before cooking. 8 CARE OF YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN 1 2 Turn the oven off before cleaning. Keep the inside of the oven clean. When food spatters or spilled liquids adhere to oven walls, plate tray, stirrer cover and inlet cover wipe with a damp cloth. Mild detergent may be used if the oven gets very dirty. The use of harsh detergent or abrasives is not recommended. 3 4 5 The outside oven surface should be cleaned with soap and water, rinsed and dried with a soft cloth. To prevent damage to the operating parts inside the oven, water should not be allowed to seep into the ventilation openings. If the Control Panel becomes wet, clean with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh detergents or abrasives on Control Panel. If steam accumulates inside or around the outside of the oven door, wipe with a soft cloth. This may occur when the microwave oven is operated under high humidity conditions and in no way indicates malfunction of the unit. IMPORTANT CAUTIONS 1. Do not operate after removed food. 2. Do not operate the oven without stirrer cover in place. 3. Do not remove the stirrer cover and plate tray. 9 MICROWAVING PRINCIPLES Microwave energy has been used in this country to cook and reheat food since early experiments with RADAR in World War ll. Microwaves are present in the atmosphere all the time, both naturally and manmade sources. Manmade sources include radar, radio, television, telecommunication links and car phones. HOW MICROWAVES COOK FOOD TRANSMISSION L In a microwave oven, electricity is converted into microwave by the MAGNETRON. Then they pass through the cooking containers to be absorbed by the water molecules in the food, all foods contain water to a more or lesser extent. L REFLECTION L ABSORPTION The microwaves bounce off the metal walls and the metal door screen. The microwaves cause the water molecules to vibrate which causes FRICTION, i.e. HEAT. This heat then cooks the food. Microwaves are also attracted to fat and sugar particles, and foods high in these will cook more quickly. Microwaves can only penetrate to a depth of 11/2 - 2 inches(4-5cm) and as heat spreads through the food by conduction, just as in a traditional oven, the food cooks from the outside inwards. = 3840 ml (UK 4500 ml) STARTING TEMPERATURE The colder the food, the longer it takes to heat up. Food from a fridge takes longer to reheat than food at room temperature. LIQUIDS All liquids must be stirred before and during heating. Water especially must be stirred before and during heating, to avoid eruption. Do not heat liquids that have previously been boiled. DO NOT OVERHEAT. TURNING & STIRRING Some foods require stirring during cooking. Meat and poultry should be turned after half the cooking time. ARRANGING Individual foods e.g. chicken portions or chops, should be placed on a dish so that the thicker parts are towards the outside. QUANTITY Small quantities cook faster than large quantities, also small meals will reheat more quickly than large portions. PIERCING The skin or membrane on some foods will cause steam to build up during cooking. These foods must be pierced or a strip of skin should be peeled off before cooking to allow the steam to escape. Eggs, potatoes, apples, sausages etc, will all need to be pierced before cooking. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BOIL EGGS IN THEIR SHELLS. COVERING Cover foods with microwave cling film or a lid. Cover fish, vegetables, casseroles, soups. Do not cover cakes, sauces, jacket potatoes or pastry items. COOKING TECHNIQUES STANDING TIME Dense foods e.g. meat, jacket potatoes and cakes, require standing time(inside or outside of the oven) after cooking, to allow heat to finish conducting to cook the center completely. Wrap meat joints and jacket potatoes in aluminium foil while standing. Meat joints need approx. 10-15 minutes, jacket potatoes 5 minutes. Other foods such as plated meal, vegetables, fish etc require 2-5 minutes standing. After defrosting food, standing time should also be allowed. If food is not cooked after standing time, return to the oven and cook for additional time. MOISTURE CONTENT Many fresh foods e.g. vegetables and fruit, vary in their moisture content throughout the season, particularly jacket potatoes. For this reason cooking times may have to be adjusted. Dry ingredients e.g. rice, pasta, can dry out during storage so cooking times may differ. DENSITY Porous airy foods heat more quickly than dense heavy foods. CLING FILM Cling film helps keep the food moist and the trapped steam assists in speeding up cooking times. Pierce before cooking to allow excess steam to escape. Always take care when removing cling film from a dish as the build-up of steam will be very hot. SHAPE Even shapes cook evenly. Food cooks better by microwave when in a round container rather than square. SPACING Foods cook more quickly and evenly if spaced apart. NEVER pile foods on top of each other. 11 USE YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN SAFELY General Use Do not attempt to defeat or tamper with safety interlocks. Do not place any object between the oven front frame and the door or allow residue to build up on sealing surfaces. Wipe with a mild detergent, rinse and dry. Never use abrasive powders or pads. Do not subject the oven door to strain or weight such as a child hanging on an open door. This could cause the oven to fall forward resulting in injury to you and damage to the oven. Do not operate the oven if door seals or sealing surfaces are damaged; or if door is bent; or if hinges are loose or broken. Do not operate the oven empty. This will damage the oven. Do not attempt to dry clothes, newspapers or other materials in the oven. They may catch on fire. Do not use recycled paper products as they may contain impurities which may cause sparks or fires. Do not hit or strike the control panel with hard objects. This can damage the oven. Food Never use your microwave oven for home canning. The oven is not designed for proper home canning. Improperly canned food may spoil and be dangerous to consume. Always use the minimum recipe cooking time. It is better to undercook rather than overcook foods. Undercooked foods can be returned to the oven for more cooking. If food is overcooked, nothing can be done. Heat small quantities of food or foods with low moisture carefully. These can quickly dry out, burn or catch on fire. Do not heat eggs in the shell. Pressure may build up and eggs can explode. Potatoes, apples, egg yolks and sausages are examples of food with non-porous skins. These must be pierced before cooking to prevent bursting. Do not attempt to deep fat fry in your microwave oven. Always stir liquids before heating. Heated liquids can erupt, if not mixed with air. Do not leave the oven unattended while popping corn. Do not pop corn in a paper bag unless it is the commercially prepared Microwave Popcorn product. The kernels can overheat and ignite a brown paper bag. Do not put packaged Microwave Popcorn bags directly on the oven tray. Place the package on a microwave safe glass or ceramic plate to avoid overheating and cracking the oven tray. Do not exceed the Microwave Popcorn manufacturers' suggested popping time. Longer popping does not yield more popcorn but it can result in scorch, burn of fire. Remember, the Popcorn bag and tray can be too hot to handle. Remove with caution and use pot holders. ARCING If you see arcing, open the door and correct the problem. Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven. Arcing is caused by:
Metal or foil touching the side of the oven. Foil not molded to food (upturned edges act like antennas). Metal, such as twist-ties, poultry pins, or gold rimmed dishes, in the microwave. * Q : I accidentally ran my microwave oven without any food in it. Is it damaged?
* A : Running the oven empty for a short time will not damage the oven. However, it is not recommended.
* Q : Can the oven be used with the glass tray or roller guide removed?
* A : No. Both the glass tray and roller guide must always be used in the oven before cooking.
* Q : Can I open the door when the oven is operating?
* A : The door can be opened anytime during the cooking operation. Then microwave energy will be instantly switched off and the time setting will maintain until the door is closed and START is touched.
* Q : Why do I have moisture in my microwave oven after cooking?
* A : The moisture on the side of your microwave oven is normal. It is caused by steam form cooking food heating the cool oven surface.
* Q : Dose microwave energy pass through the viewing screen in the door?
* A : No. The metal screen bounces back the energy to the oven cavity. The holes are made to allow light to pass through. They do not let microwave energy pass through.
* Q : Why do eggs sometimes pop?
* A : When baking or poaching eggs, the yolk may pop due to steam build-up inside the yolk membrane. To prevent this, simply pierce the yolk with a toothpick before cooking. Never cook eggs without piercing their shells. 14 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (continued)
* Q : Why is standing time recommended after the cooking operation has been completed?
* A : Standing time is very important. With microwave cooking, the heat is in the food, not in the oven. Many foods build up enough internal heat to allow the cooking process to continue, even after the food is removed from the oven. Standing time for joints of meat, large vegetables and cakes allows the inside to cook completely, without overcooking the outside.
* Q : What does standing time mean?
* A : Standing time means that food should be removed from the oven and covered for additional time to allow it to finish cooking. This frees the oven for other cooking.
* Q : Why does my oven not always cook as fast as the microwave cooking guide says?
* A : Check your cooking guide again, to make sure youve followed directions exactly ; and to see what might cause variations in cooking time. Cooking guide times and heat settings are suggestions, to help prevent over-cooking... the most common problem in getting used to a microwave oven. Variations in the size, shape and weights and dimensions could require longer cooking time. Use your own judgement along with the cooking guide suggestions to check whether the food has been properly cooked just as you would do with a conventional cooker.
* Q : Will the microwave oven be damaged if it operates while empty?
* A : Yes. Never run it empty.
* Q : Can I operate my microwave oven without the turntable or turn the turntable over to hold a large dish?
* A : No. If you remove or turn over the turntable, you will get poor cooking results. Dishes used in your oven must fit on the turntable.
* Q : Is it normal for the turntable to turn in either direction?
* A : Yes. The turntable rotates clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the rotation of the motor when the cooking cycle begins.
* Q : Can I pop popcorn in my microwave oven? How do I get the best results?
* A : Yes. Pop packaged microwave popcorn following manufactures guidelines or use the preset POPCORN pad. Do not use regular paper bags. Use the listening test by stopping the oven as soon as the popping slows to a pop every 1 or 2 seconds. Do not repop unpopped kernels. ing foods. 4 INSTALLATION 1. Steady, flat location. This microwave oven should be set on a steady, flat surface. 2. Leave space behind and side. All air vents should be kept a clearance. If all vents are covered during operation, the oven may be overheated and, eventually, cause oven failure. 3. Away from radio, and TV sets Poor television reception and radio interference may result if the oven is located close to a TV, radio, antenna, or feeder and so on. Position the oven as far from them as possible. 4. Away from heating appliances and water taps Keep the oven away from hot air, steam or splash when choosing a place to position it, or the insulation might be adversely affected and breakdowns occur. 5. Power supply Check your local power source. This microwave oven requires a current of approximately 14.5 amperes, 120Volts, 60Hz grounded outlet. 1. A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risks resulting from becoming entangled in or trippping over a longer cord. 2. Longer cord sets or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. 3. If a long cord or extension cord is used:
1) The marked electrical rating of the cord set or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. 2) The extension cord must be a grounding type 3-wire cord. 3) The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally. 6. Examine the oven after unpacking for any damage such as:
A misaligned door, broken door or a dent in cavity. If any of the above are visible, DO NOT INSTALL, and notify dealer immediately. 5 OPERATIONS AND FUNCTIONS 1. Connect the main lead to an electrical outlet. 2. After placing the food in a suitable container, open the oven door and put it on the glass tray. The glass tray must always be in place during cooking. 3. Close the door securely. 4. Choose cooking power level by setting V.P.C knob to the desired position. Refer to cookbook for recommended power levels. 5. Determine cooking time. Consult cookbook for recipe timing. Oven light turns on and cooling fan starts to operate. Microwave cooking starts. 6. You may open the door while the oven is operating. As soon as the door is opened, the safety mechanisms stop the generation of microwave power and the operation of cooking timer. If you wish to change the time during cooking, simply adjust the timer to the desired time. 7. When the timer reaches zero, a bell will ring and the unit will turn off. Oven light turns off. If additional cooking time is needed and the door is closed, the oven will automatically start when the timer is reset. Various clicking noises may be heard when turning V.P.C knob. This is normal and does not affect the operation of your microwave oven. Make sure the oven is properly installed and plugged into the electrical outlet. Variable power cooking ON and OFF cycle time of mechanical V.P.C switch is 30 seconds. When the V.P.C knob is set to the desired position and timer knob to the desired position, the V.P.C switch has a cycle

6 DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY Cautions to be observed when trouble shooting. Unlike many other appliances, the microwave oven is high-voltage, high-current equipment. It is completely safety during normal operation. However, carelessness in servicing the oven can result in an electric shock or possible danger from a short circuit. You are asked to observe the following precautions carefully. 1. Always remove the power plug from the outlet before servicing. 2. Use an insulated screwdriver and ware rubber gloves when servicing the high voltage side. 3. Discharge the high voltage capacitor before touching any oven components or wiring.
(1) Check the grounding. Do not operate on a 2-wire extension cord. The microwave oven is designed to be used with grounded. It is imperative, therefore, to make sure it is grounded properly before beginning repair work.
(2) Warning about the electric charge in the high voltage capacitor. For about 30 seconds after the operation stopped and electric charge remains in the high voltage capacitor. When replacing or checking parts, short between oven chassis and the negative high terminal of the high voltage capacitor, by using a properly insulated screwdriver to discharge. 4. When the 15A fuse is blown out due to the operation of the monitor switch; replace primary interlock switch, secondary interlock switch and interlock monitor switch. 5. After repair or replacement of parts, make sure that the screws are properly tightened, and all electrical connections are tightened. 6. Do not operate without cabinet. SHORT CAUTION : Service personnel should remove their watches whenever working close to or replacing the magnetron. WARNING : When servicing the appliance, need a care of touching or replacing high potential parts because of electrical shock or exposing microwave. These parts are as follows - HV Transformer, Magnetron, HV Capacitor, HV Diode. 7 1. To remove cabinet 1) Remove three screws on cabinet back. 2) Push the cabinet backward. 2. To remove door assembly 1) Remove two screws which secure the stopper hinge top. 2) Remove the door assembly from top plate of cavity. 3) Reverse the above for reassembly. (1) To reduce gap located on part A Loosen two screws on stopper hinge top, and then push the door to contact the door seal to oven front surface. Tighten two screws.
(2) To reduce gap located on part B Loosen two screws on stopper hinge under, and then push the door to contact the door seal to oven front surface. Tighten two screws. To remove high voltage capacitor. 1) Remove a screw which secure the grounding ring terminal of the H.V. diode and the capacitor holder. 2) Remove the H.V. diode from the capacitor holder. 3) Reverse the above steps for reassembly. N High voltage circuit wiring 12 7. To remove magnetron. 1) Remove four nuts which secure the magnetron. 2) Remove the magnetron. 3) Reverse the above steps for reassembly. NOTE : Never install the magnetron without the metallic gasket plate which is packed with each magnetron to pre-

To remove wind guide assembly. 1) Remove a screw which secure the wind guide assembly end cover hole *0. 2) Draw forward the wind guide assembly. 3) Pull the fan from the motor shaft. 4) Remove two screws which secure the motor shaded pole. 5) Remove the motor shaded pole. 6) Reverse the above steps for reasembly. 9. To remove H.V.transformer. 1) Remove four screws holding the H.V.transformer. 2) Remove the H.V.transformer. 3) Reverse the above steps for reassembly. 14 INTERLOCK MECHANISM AND ADJUSTMENT The door lock mechanism is a device which has been specially designed to completely eliminate microwave radiation when the door is opened during operation, and thus to perfectly prevent the danger resulting from the leakage of microwave.
(1) Primary interlock switch When the door is closed, the hook locks the oven door. If the door is not closed properly, the oven will not operate. When the door is closed, the hook pushes the button of the microswitch. Then the button of the primary interlock switch bring it under ON condition.
(2) Secondary interlock switch and interlock monitor switch When the door is closed, the hook pushes the lock lever downward. The lock lever presses the button of the interlock monitor switch to bring it under NO condition and presses the button of the secondary interlock switch to bring it under ON condition. ADJUSTMENT :
Interlock monitor switch When the door is closed, the interlock monitor switch should be changed (NO condition) before other switches are closed. When the door is opened, the interlock monitor switch should be changed (NC condition) after other switches are opened.
(3) Adjustment steps a) Loosen the one mounting screw. b) Adjust interlock switch assembly position. c) Make sure that lock lever moves smoothly after adjustment is completed. d) Tighten completely two mounting screws. NOTE :
Microwave emission test should be performed after adjusting interlock mechanism. If the microwave emission exceed 4mW/cm2, readjust interlock mechanism. 15 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE Following the procedure below to check if the oven is defective or not. 1. Check grounding before trouble checking. 2. Be careful of the high voltage circuit. 3. Discharge the high voltage capacitor. 4. When checking the continuity of the switches, fuse or high voltage transformer, disconnect one lead wire from these parts and check continuity with the AC plug removed. To do otherwise may result in a false reading or damage to your meter.
(TROUBLE 1) Oven does not operate at all ; any inputs can not be accepted. Does the fan motor work when you shut the door and turn the timer?

YES Check continuity of interlock monitor switch with door shut. Continuity Replace primary, secondary interlock switch and interlock monitor switch. MEASUREMENT OF THE MICROWAVE POWER OUTPUT Microwave output power can be checked by indirectly measuring the temperature rise of a certain amount of water exposed to the microwave as directed below. PROCEDURE 1. Microwave power output measurement is made with the microwave oven supplied at rated voltage and operated at its maximum microwave power setting with a load of 10005cc of potable water. 2. The water is contained in a cylindrical borosilicate glass vessel having a maximum material thickness of 3 mm and an outside diameter of approxi-
mately 190 mm. 3. The oven and the empty vessel are at ambient temperature prior to the start of the test. The initial temperature of the water is 102C (503.6F) It is measured immediately before the water is added to the vessel. After addition of the water to the vessel, the load is immediately placed on the center of the shelf, which is in the lowest normal position. 4. Microwave power is switched on. 5. Heating time should be exactly A seconds. (Refer to table as following) Heating time is measured while the microwave generator is operating at full power. The filament heat-up time for magnetron is not included. 6. The initial and final temperature of water is selected so that the maximum difference between the ambient and final water temperature is 5K. 7. The microwave power output P in watts is calculated from the following formula :
P=4187 X LLT/t LLT is difference between initial and final temperature. t is the heating time. The power measured should be B (Refer to SPECIFICATIONS)W10.0%. CAUTION :
1. Water load should be measured exactly to 1 liters. 2. Input power voltage should be exactly specified voltage(Refer to SPECIFICATIONS). 3. Ambient temperature should be 202C(683.6F) Heating time for power output:

1. Make sure to check the microwave leakage before and after repair of adjustment. 2. Always start measuring of an unknown field to assure safety for operating personnel from microwave energy. 3. Do not place your hands into any suspected microwave radiation field unless the safe density level is known. 4. Care should be taken not to place the eyes in direct line with the source of microwave energy. 5. Slowly approach the unit under test until the radiometer reads an appreciable microwave leakage from the unit under the test. PROCEDURES 1. Prepare Microwave Energy Survey Meter, 600cc glass beaker, and glass thermometer 100C(212F). 2. Pour 275cc15cc of tap water initially at 205C(689F) in the 600cc glass beaker with an inside diameter of approx. 95mm(3.5in.). 3. Place it at the center of the tray and set it in a cavity. 4. Close the door and operate the oven. 5. Measure the leakage by using Microwave Energy Survey Meter with dual ranges, set to 2450MHz. 1) Measured radiation leakage must not exceed the value prescribed below. Leakage for a fully assembled oven with door normally closed must be less than 4mW/cm2. 2) When measuring the leakage, always use the 5cm(2in.) space cone with probe. Hold the probe perpendicular to the cabinet and door. Place the space cone of the probe on the door, cabinet, door seem, door viewing screen, the exhaust air vents and the suction air vents. 3) Measuring should be in a counter-clockwise direction at a rate of 1 in./sec. If the leakage of the cabinet door seem is unknown, move the probe more slowly. 4) When measuring near a corner of the door, keep the probe perpendicular to the areas making sure the probe end at the base of the cone does not get closer than 2 in. from any metal. If it does not, erroneous reading may result. 19 3. COMPONENT TEST PROCEDURE High voltage is present at the high voltage terminal of the high voltage transformer during any cooking cycle. It is neither necessary nor advisable to attempt measurement of the high voltage. Before touching any oven components or wiring, always unplug the oven from its power source and discharge the capacitor. 1. High voltage transformer
(1) Remove connections from the transformer terminals and check continuity.
(2) Normal readings should be as follows:
Secondary winding ...................Approx. 11010%
Filament winding....................................Approx. 0 Primary winding .....................................Approx. 1 2. High voltage capacitor
(1) Check continuity of capacitor with meter on the highest OHM scale.
(2) A normal capacitor will show continuity for a short time, and then indicate 10M once the capacitor is charged.
(3) A shorted capacitor will show continuous continuity.
(4) An open capacitor will show constant 10M.
(5) Resistance between each terminal and chassis should be infinite. 3. High voltage diode
(1) Isolate the diode from the circuit by disconnecting the leads.
(2) With the ohmmeter set on the highest resistance scale measure the resistance across the diode terminals. Reverse the meter leads and again observe the resistance reading. Meter with 6V, 9V or higher voltage batteries should be used to check the front-back resistance of the diode, oth-
erwise an infinite resistance may be read in both directions. A normal diodes resistance will be infinite in one direction and several hundred K in the other direction. 4. Magnetron For complete magnetron diagnosis, refer to Measurement of the Microwave Power Output. Continuity checks can only indicate and open filament or a shorted magnetron. To diagnose for an open filament or a shorted magnetron.
(1) Isolate magnetron from the circuit by disconnecting the leads.
(2) A continuity check across magnetron filament terminals should indicate 0.1 or less.
(3) A continuity check between each filament terminal and magnetron case should read open. 5. Fuse If the fuse in the primary and monitor switch circuit is blown when the door is opened, check the primary and monitor switch before replacing the blown fuse. In case the fuse is blown by an improper switch operation, replace the defective switch and fuse at the same time.
