Netzka-
bel), ggf. ber Netzschalter einschalten.
Adresse> (z.B. LANCOM-00a057xxxxxx) erreicht werden. http://LANCOM-00a05700094A 7 LANCOM Router, WLAN Router, Access Points und WLAN Controller Erste Schritte I Die MAC-Adresse finden Sie auf einem Aufkleber auf der Gerteun-
terseite. In diesem Fall bleiben folgende Optionen:
Verwenden Sie ggf.

Which software has to be installed to carry out a configuration?
How is the device connected up?
How can the device be contacted with LANconfig, WEBconfig or via the serial interface?
How do I start the Setup Wizard (e.g. to set up Internet access)?
How do I reset the device?
Where can I find information and support?
The complete documentation for your device consists of the following parts:
This Quick User Guide is suitable for users who are experienced in the installation of networking components and routers, are familiar with DHCP and DNS servers, and who understand TCP/IP addressing. The User Manual or, for some models, the Hardware Quick Reference contains all of the information required to set up your device. It also contains all of the important technical specifications. The PBX Functions manual gives you detailed step-by-step instructions on commissioning a LANCOM VoIP Router as a PBX (private branch exchange) for a single location. Also described are the main operating instructions for users, and how to connect terminal equipment. The Reference Manual supplements the User Manual and fully addresses issues concerning the LANCOM operating system LCOS that also apply to all other models. The Menu Reference Guide comprehensively describes all of the parameters in LCOS, the operating system used by LANCOM devices. This guide is an aid to users during the configuration of devices by means of WEBconfig or the telnet console. I All documents for your product which are not shipped in printed form are available as PDF documents from www.lancom.eu/download or on the data medium supplied with your product. s p e t S t s r i F 1 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps s p e t S t s r i F Safety advice This documentation contains notices which should be observed to avoid injury to persons or damage to your device. Proper usage Operate the device only as described in the accompanying documentation. Pay particular attention to all warnings and safety instructions. Use only those third-party devices and components that are recommended or approved by the manufacturer. Power supply voltage Please make sure to use only the power adapter listed in the datasheet. The use of the wrong power adapter can be of danger to the device or persons. The datasheet can be found on the relevant product page on the LANCOM Web site (www.lancom.eu). Some models can be powered via the network cable (Power-over-Ethernet, PoE). Please observe the corresponding notices on the rear panel of the device. Setting up, mounting and commissioning Observe the installation instructions with particular regard to the environmen-
tal conditions, stackability, etc., as outlined in the User Manual or in the Hard-
ware Quick Reference. Some devices (e.g. those with an integrated ADSL modem) can become very warm during operation. For these models, environmental temperatures are not to exceed 35C. Sufficient ventilation is of vital importance. Do not stack the devices and do not expose them to direct sunlight. Antennas are only to be attached or changed when the device is switched off. Mounting or demounting antennas while the device switched on may cause the destruction of the WLAN module! When installing outdoor antennas, the instructions on installation and grounding in the LANCOM Outdoor Wireless Guide must be observed. General safety This device is powered by electricity. Adhere strictly to the safety requirements outlined in the operating instructions with regard to the voltages to be applied. 2 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps Never operate damaged components. Turn a device on only if the housing is closed. Opening the housing is reserved exclusively for the manufacturer's authorized technicians. Never insert pointed objects (thin screwdrivers, wires, etc.) into the product's interior. Risk from electric shock!
Any work required for the electrical installation must be carried out by a trai-
ned electrician. Make sure that the electrical installation complies with local or national safety s p e t S t s r i F requirements. Installing the software If you are using a Windows computer for the configuration, you should install the LANCOM Management System LCMS (LANconfig and LANmonitor on the data medium supplied with your product). With other operating systems, you have the alternative of using a Web browser. Deploying and connecting the device When deploying/mounting the device consider the instructions on deployment, with particular regard to the environmental conditions, stackability, etc., as outline in the technical specifications in the User Manual or in the Hardware Quick Reference. In the case of LANCOM Wireless devices, mount and connect any antennas if applicable. LAN and WAN connectors should be connected with their corresponding remotes. C When connecting the Ethernet interfaces, please ensure that the two devices being connected (e.g. switch and LANCOM) both have the same setting for auto mode. If a LANCOM is connected to a switch that does not support auto mode, or if this function has been deactivated in the switch, then auto mode must also be deactivated 3 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps in the LANCOM (default = on). Contradictory settings can lead to data transfer errors, either immediately or after some time (days). Connect the device to the power supply (via the supplied power adapter unit or power cord) and switch on the power switch. Searching for and configuring the device... A LANCOM router, wireless router, access point or WLAN Controller can be configured over the following paths (assuming that the model is equipped with the corresponding interface). I If your network contains a LANCOM WLAN Controller, then the network commissioning of access points is generally fully automatic. For further information please refer to the user manual supplied with your LANCOM WLAN Controller. Via the local network (LAN) . Via the wireless LAN if WLAN encryption has been correctly set up (or deactivated) in the configuration computer and the device with the wireless interface. As of LCOS version 7.22 all LANCOM access points are set to "Managed Mode" when shipped, and the WLAN modules are switched off. For this reason the first-time configuration of LANCOM access points via WLAN is not possible. s p e t S t s r i F Via the serial configuration interface . Via an ISDN connection . For LANCOM wireless routers only LAN LAPTOP PC PC Outband ISDN ROUTER ACCESS POINT ROUTER 1 2 3 ROUTER 4 4 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps I Always switch on the device for configuration before you switch on the computer. .. with LANconfig Start LANconfig. Unconfigured LANCOM devices in local networks are detected automatically. D If LANconfig cannot find the device, check the network connection and update the IP address of the configuration computer (e.g. via the command line with ipconfig/renew, by reactivating the network connection, or by restarting the computer). Then start the search in LANconfig again. I LANconfig may be unable to detect devices in the LAN if the "Internet connection firewall" or any other personal firewall is activated on the configuration computer. If your unconfigured device cannot be found, deactivate the firewall while you carry out the configuration. I LANCOM wireless routers and LANCOM access points in managed mode are not displayed by LANconfig carrying out its device search. To display these devices, activate the option 'Search for managed APs'. The Basic Settings Wizard also starts by itself. The following parameters are set here:
TCP/IP and DHCP settings Restricting access to the configuration For DSL, ADSL and/or ISDN settings, depending on the model s p e t S t s r i F 5 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps Now continue from item . .. with WEBconfig As an alternative, start the Web browser to carry out the configuration. The behavior and accessibility of routers and access points being configured via a Web browser depend on whether the DHCP server and DNS server are active in the LAN already, and whether these two server processes share the assignment in the LAN of IP addresses to symbolic names. s p e t S t s r i F DHCP client or server?
Following power-on, unconfigured LANCOM devices first check whether a DHCP server is already active in the LAN. Depending on the situation, the device can either enable its own DHCP server or enable DHCP client mode. In the second operating mode, the device can retrieve an IP address for itself from a DHCP server in the LAN. Network without a DHCP server In a network without a DHCP server, unconfigured LANCOM devices enable their own DHCP server service when switched on and assign IP addresses, netmask and DSN server to other computers in the LAN (provided that these are set for automatic retrieval of IP addresses auto DHCP). In this constellation, the device can be accessed by every computer with the auto DHCP function enabled with a Web browser under name LANCOM or under IP address 172.23.56.254. I With the factory settings and an activated DHCP server, the device forwards all incoming DNS requests to the internal Web server. This means that a connection can easily be made to set up an unconfigured LANCOM by entering any name into a Web browser. 6 Not for centrally managed LANCOM wireless routers or LANCOM access points LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps s p e t S t s r i F If the configuration computer does not retrieve its IP address from the LANCOM DHCP server, it determines the current IP address of the computer
(with Start Run cmd and command ipconfig at the prompt under Windows 2000 or Windows XP or Windows Vista, or with command ifconfig in the console under Linux) In this case, the LANCOM can be accessed with address x.x.x.254 (the xs stand for the first three blocks in the IP address of the configuration computer). Network with DHCP server If a DHCP server for the assignment of IP addresses is active in the LAN, an unconfigured LANCOM device disables its own DHCP server, switches to DHCP client mode and retrieves an IP address from the DHCP server in the LAN. However, this IP address is initially unknown and accessing the device depends on the name resolution:
If the LAN also has a DNS server for name resolution and this communicates the IP address/name assignment to the DHCP server, the device can be reached under name "LANCOM-<MAC address>", e.g. LANCOM-00a057xxxxxx. http://LANCOM-00a05700094A 7 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps s p e t S t s r i F I The MAC address on a sticker on the base of the device. If there is no DNS server in the LAN, or if it is not coupled to the DHCP server, the device cannot be reached via the name. In this case the following options remain:
Use suitable tools to find out the IP address assigned to the LANCOM by DHCP and access the device directly using this IP address. Using LANconfig. Use the serial configuration interface to connect a computer running a terminal program to the device. .. via the serial interface If it is not possible to establish LAN access to the device, computers can be connected via the serial configuration interface. In this situation, configuration is carried out with LANconfig or a terminal program. I For outbound configuration via a terminal program, it is not possible to use any of the Setup wizards. The most convenient option here is to use LANconfig. .. via Dial-Up Networking/ISDN connection (remote configuration) If your device is at a remote location and accessible via ISDN, you can carry out a remote configuration with LANconfig. For further information on remote configuration refer to the Reference Manual. .. via the wireless network (WLAN) I Ex-factory, WPA encryption is activated for every unconfigured LANCOM wireless router as standard. For WLAN devices being managed by a LANCOM WLAN Controller, encryption settings are overwritten by the central encryption settings in the profiles of the WLAN Controller. If your device has one or more WLAN interfaces, you can also carry out the
"wireless" configuration from a computer with a WLAN card. LANCOM wireless router: To use a WLAN card to connect to a new LANCOM wireless router for wireless configuration, the WLAN card 8 For LANCOM wireless routers and LANCOM access points only LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps must be programmed with the preshared key (PSK) for the standard WPA encryption. LANCOM access point: The WLAN interfaces of LANCOM access points are set to "Managed Modus" as standard, meaning that they are deactivated until a profile is assigned by a WLAN Controller. To use a WLAN client to connect to a new LANCOM access point for wireless configuration, it is first necessary to use different means of configuration to reset the operating mode of a WLAN interface to
"Access point mode". A WLAN card can then access the LANCOM access point with the standard WPA PSK. The preshared key (PSK) for the standard WPA encryption consists of the first letter L followed by the LAN MAC address of the access point in ASCII characters. The LAN MAC addresses of the LANCOM devices always begin with the character string 00A057. You will find the LAN MAC address on a sticker on the base of the device. Only use the number labeled as LAN MAC address that starts with 00A057. The other numbers that may be found are not the LAN MAC address. A device with the LAN MAC address 00A05713B178 thus has a preshared key of L00A05713B178. This key is entered into the WPA or private WEP settings of the device for each logical WLAN network as Key 1/Passphrase. I After registering for the first time, change the WPA preshared key to ensure that you have a secure connection. For notes on secure keys and passphrases, see the manual for the device or the LCOS Reference Manual. s p e t S t s r i F 9 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps The Setup Wizards... I When starting the installation for any device, run the Setup Wizard for the Basic Settings and then run the Check security settings Setup Wizard. C If you alter the WLAN encryption settings (e.g. WPA) in the device when carrying out the configuration via the WLAN interface with the aid of the Setup Wizards, please ensure that you similarly alter the WLAN encryption settings for the WLAN card of the configuration computer. .. under LANconfig When using LANconfig, you can continue with the configuration by starting the Setup Wizards (e.g. for Internet connections, coupling LANs, or RAS). Choose your device from the selection window and select the button Setup Wizard or use the menu bar to access Tools Setup Wizard. s p e t S t s r i F Setup Wizard under LANconfig
... under WEBconfig When using WEBconfig, you can also continue with the configuration by starting the Setup Wizards (e.g. for Internet connections, coupling LANs, or RAS). To do this, click on the corresponding entry in the Web configuration. In the login window that follows, leave the field for user name empty and enter the password as defined. If no password has been set, the Web configuration opens directly. 10 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps Setup Wizard under WEBconfig I Under certain circumstances, the WEBconfig Setup Wizards cannot be used to configure all of the device functions. In these cases use LANconfig for greater convenience and an all-round configuration. How do I reset a device?
It is possible to reset the device to its factory settings if you need to reconfigure the device irrespective of any existing settings, or if it is impossible to connect to the device. Reset switch (on the front or back panel, depending on the device) ETH4 ETH3 ETH2 ETH1 WAN ISDN COM LANCOM 8011 VPN Config(COM) Reset Antenna Main The reset button offers two basic functionsboot (restart) and reset (to the factory settings)which are called by pressing the button for different lengths of time. With the suitable setting, the behavior of the reset button can be controlled. WEBconfig: LCOS menu tree Setup Config Reset button This option controls the behavior of the reset button when it is pressed:
Ignore: The button is ignored. D Please observe the following notice: The settings 'Ignore' or 'Boot only' makes it impossible to reset the configuration to the factory settings with the reset button. If the password is lost for a device with this setting, there is no way to access the configuration! In this case the serial communications interface can be used to upload a new s p e t S t s r i F 11 LANCOM Routers, WLAN routers, access points and WLAN controllers First Steps firmware version to the devicethis resets the device to its factory settings, which results in the deletion of the former configuration. Instructions on firmware uploads via the serial configuration interface are available in the LCOS reference manual. Boot only: With a suitable setting, the behavior of the reset button can be controlled; the button is then ignored or a press of the button prompts a re-start only, however long it is held down. Reset-or-boot (standard setting):
Press for less than 5 seconds to reboot. Press for more than 5 seconds until all LEDs on the device light up for the first time to restart while deleting the user-defined configuration. Customer-specific default settings will be loaded if the device contains them, otherwise the LANCOM factory settings will be loaded. Press for more than 15 seconds until all LEDs on the device light up for the second time to restart while deleting the user-defined configuration. A rollout configuration will be loaded if the device contains one, otherwise the LANCOM factory settings will be loaded. s p e t S t s r i F C After resetting, the device starts completely unconfigured and all settings are lost. If possible be sure to backup the current device configuration before resetting. I Note that a reset causes the WLAN key settings to be lost from the device. After resetting, you can only access the LANCOM WLAN router to carry out a configuration by entering the standard preshared key for WPA into the WLAN card. A LANCOM access point after being reset returns to managed mode, in which case the configuration cannot be directly accessed via the WLAN interface!

collegare antenne supplementari. Provvedere all'alimentazione elettrica del dispositivo
I Se nella rete viene utilizzato un controller WLAN LANCOM, tutti gli access point della rete dovrebbero configurarsi in automatico. Per ulteriori informazioni, consultare il manuale utente del controller WLAN LANCOM. Configurazione tramite rete locale (LAN) ;
Configurazione tramite rete wireless (WLAN) , se sul dispositivo con interfaccia wireless e sul PC di configurazione impostata correttamente o disattivata la crittografia WLAN, ad esempio WEP. A partire da LCOS 7.22, tutti i nuovi Access point LANCOM verranno forniti con l'impostazione "Managed Mode" e i moduli WLAN saranno disattivati. Pertanto, la prima configurazione di un Access point LANCOM non potr essere eseguita attraverso un collegamento WLAN. Configurazione tramite l'interfaccia seriale di configurazione ;

Configurazione tramite LANconfig Avviare LANconfig.

limitazioni per l'accesso alla configurazione;
in base al modello, connessione DSL, ADSL e/o ISDN. Proseguire dal punto della descrizione. ..

EAP-FAST EAP-TLS EAP-TTLS EAP-SIM PEAP (EAP-GTC) PEAP (EAP-MSCHAP V2) LEAP Enables WPA/WPA2 Passphrase security. Click on the Configure button and fill in the WPA/WPA2 Passphrase. Enables 802.1x security. This option requires IT administration. Choosing 802.1x opens the 802.1x EAP type drop-down menu. The options include:
EAP-FAST EAP-TLS EAP-TTLS EAP-SIM PEAP (EAP-GTC) PEAP (EAP-MSCHAP V2) LEAP Enables the use of pre-shared keys that are defined on both the access point and the station. To define pre-shared encryption keys, choose the Pre-Shared Key radio button and click the Configure button to fill in the Define Pre-Shared Keys window. 10 None Allow Association to Mixed Cells Limit Time for Finding Domain Controller To Group Policy Delay No security (not recommended). Check this check box if the access point with which the client adapter is to associate has WEP set to Optional and WEP is enabled on the client adapter. Otherwise, the client is unable to establish a connection with the access point. Check this check box and enter the number of seconds (up to 300) after which the authentication process times out when trying to find the domain controller. Entering zero is like unchecking this check box, which means no time limit is imposed for finding the domain controller. Note: The authentication process times out whenever the authentication timer times out or the time for finding the domain controller is reached. Specify how much time elapses before the Windows logon process starts group policy. Group policy is a Windows feature used by administrators to specify configuration options for groups of users. The objective is to delay the start of Group Policy until wireless network authentication occurs. Valid ranges are from 0 to 65535 seconds. The value that you set goes into effect after you reboot your computer with this profile set as the active profile. This drop-down menu is active only if you chose EAP-based authentication. 11 Appendix A: FAQ about WLAN 1. What is Spread Spectrum?
Spread Spectrum technology is a wideband radio frequency technique developed by the military for use in reliable, secure, mission-critical communications systems. It is designed to trade off bandwidth efficiency for reliability, integrity, and security. In other words, more bandwidth is consumed than in the case of narrowband transmission, but the trade-off produces a signal that is, in effect, louder and thus easier to detect, provided that the receiver knows the parameters of the spread-spectrum signal being broadcast. If a receiver is not tuned to the right frequency, a spread-spectrum signal looks like background noise. There are two main alternatives, Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) and Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS). 2. What is DSSS? What is FHSS? And what are their differences?
Frequency-Hopping Spread-Spectrum (FHSS) uses a narrowband carrier that changes frequency in a pattern that is known to both transmitter and receiver. Properly synchronized, the net effect is to maintain a single logical channel. To an unintended receiver, FHSS appears to be short-duration impulse noise. Direct-Sequence Spread-Spectrum (DSSS) generates a redundant bit pattern for each bit to be transmitted. This bit pattern is called a chip (or chipping code). The longer the chip, the greater the probability that the original data can be recovered. Even if one or more bits in the chip are damaged during transmission, statistical techniques embedded in the radio can recover the original data without the need for retransmission. To an unintended receiver, DSSS appears as low power wideband noise and is rejected (ignored) by most narrowband receivers. 3. Would the information be intercepted while transmitting on air?
WLAN features two-fold protection in security. On the hardware side, as with Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technology, it has the inherent security feature of scrambling. On the software side, WLAN offers the encryption function (WEP) to enhance security and access control. 4. What is WEP?
WEP is Wired Equivalent Privacy, a data privacy mechanism based on a 64-bit or 128-bit shared key algorithm, as described in the IEEE 802.11 standard. 5. What is infrastructure mode?
When a wireless network is set to infrastructure mode, the wireless network is configured to communicate with a wired network through a wireless access point. 12 6. What is roaming?
Roaming is the ability of a portable computer user to communicate continuously while moving freely throughout an area greater than that covered by a single access point. Before using the roaming function, the workstation must make sure that it is the same channel number with the access point of dedicated coverage area. To achieve true seamless connectivity, the wireless LAN must incorporate a number of different functions. Each node and access point, for example, must always acknowledge receipt of each message. Each node must maintain contact with the wireless network even when not actually transmitting data. Achieving these functions simultaneously requires a dynamic RF networking technology that links access points and nodes. In such a system, the users end node undertakes a search for the best possible access to the system. First, it evaluates such factors as signal strength and quality, as well as the message load currently being carried by each access point and the distance of each access point to the wired backbone. Based on that information, the node next selects the right access point and registers its address. Communications between end node and host computer can then be transmitted up and down the backbone. As the user moves on, the end nodes RF transmitter regularly checks the system to determine whether it is in touch with the original access point or whether it should seek a new one. When a node no longer receives acknowledgment from its original access point, it undertakes a new search. Upon finding a new access point, it then re-registers, and the communication process continues. Antenna information:
