This manual should be kept on hand for easy reference. It is your guide to safe and efficient operation. 1 CAUTION TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT REMOVE COVER. THERE ARE NO SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT EXPOSE THIS UNIT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE. The lightning flash with arrow-head symbol within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the units enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the unit. This massage chair is intended for household use only. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS DRAFT IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed. Read all instructions before using this massage chair. DANGER To reduce the risk of electric shock:
1. Always unplug this massage chair from the electrical outlet immediately after 2. using and before cleaning. If liquid is accidentally spilled onto the chair, remove the power plug from the electrical outlet immediately. Do not use wet hands to connect or disconnect the power plug from the electrical outlet. 3. Do not operate during a lightning storm. 4. Although operation will be stopped automatically by the Auto-Timer function, always remember to turn off the main power switch after use. 5. Do not place the power cord under the chair or under any other heavy objects. 6. Do not wind the power cord around the chair as this may damage the cord and result in a fire or electric shock. 7. Do not operate the chair with a damaged cord or with an extension cord. 8. Do not use the chair if the electrical outlet is loose. 9. Check that the Alternating Current (AC) voltage corresponds with the specification indicated for the chair. 2 being administered. outlet. 1. This massage chair should never be left unattended when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use, and before putting on or taking off parts. 2. Do not operate under blanket or pillow. Excessive heating can occur and cause fire, electric shock or injury to persons. 3. Close supervision is necessary when this chair is used by, on or near children, invalids or disabled persons. Keep children away from extended foot support. 4. Use this massage chair only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments not recommended by Brookstone. 5. Never operate this massage chair if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water. Contact Brookstone Customer Service at 866-336-3199. 6. Do not move or carry this massage chair by the power cord or controller, or use the cord as a handle. See MOVING THE CHAIR on page 7. 7. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces. 8. Never operate the massage chair with the air openings blocked. Keep the air openings free of lint, hair and the like. 9. Never drop or insert any object into any opening. 10. Do not use outdoors. 11. Do not operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is 12. To disconnect, turn all controls to the OFF position, then remove the plug from the DRAFT 13. Use heated surfaces carefully. May cause serious burns. Do not use over insensitive skin areas or in the presence of poor circulation. The unattended use of heat by children or disabled persons may be dangerous. 14. Never remove the cover from this chair. Do not use the chair when the upholstery is ripped, torn, or removed. This may cause injury or malfunction. Carefully examine the covering before each use. Call for service if the covering shows any sign of deterioration, such as blistering, peeling, cracking, or ripping. 15. Keep dry - do not wet. Do not operate in a wet or moist condition. Do not use the chair when your body is wet. Do not operate this chair with wet hands. 16. Connect this chair to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions on page 5. 17. Do not insert your hand or foot along the paths of the massage rollers during use as this may cause injury. 18. This massage chair is not intended for use by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of this chair by a person responsible for their safety. 19. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this massage chair. 20. Any individual who may be pregnant, or recently gave birth, has a heart condition, or a pacemaker, suffers from diabetes or other sensory impairment, phlebitis and/or thrombosis, joint dysfunction, inflammation or injuries, weak bones, osteoporosis, a high fever, an abnormal or curved spine, is at an increased risk of 3 developing blood clots, has pins/screws/artificial joints or other medical devices implanted in his/her body, is being treated for a medical condition or physical injury or is under a doctors care should consult with a medical professional before using this massage chair. 21. This massage chair is not intended for self-treatment of conditions that should be managed by a qualified healthcare provider. 22. Consult your physician before using this massage chair. 23. This massage chair is designed as a non-professional massager to help soothe tired and aching muscles. It is not intended to be a substitute for medical attention. If your ailments and symptoms persist or worsen after use, contact your physician immediately. 24. Do not use this chair if you are not feeling well. 25. Stop operation immediately if you experience any discomfort. 26. Do not fall asleep during the massage session. 27. Do not operate after taking pain killers, sedatives or alcohol. 28. Do not use this chair in combination with other therapeutic equipment or electric blanket, etc., as this may result in ineffectiveness or injury. 29. Do not stand on or in this massage chair. Use only while seated. 30. Do not disassemble any part of the chair. Touching the internal components may result in malfunction or electric shock. 31. The chair must only be professionally serviced or repaired. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the chair yourself. 32. Always position the massage chair on a flat, level surface. 33. Do not operate for more than 30 continuous minutes. Turn off the chair and allow it to rest (cool) for 30 minutes before re-using. This will prolong the life of the chair. 34. Do not perform continuous massage on the same spot of your body for more than 5 minutes at a time as this may result in excessive stimulation and may have adverse effects. 35. Never use the chair on open skin eruptions, swollen or inflamed areas. 36. Do not apply massage rollers directly on the head, elbow or knee joints, torso or DRAFT 37. If the power goes off during use, be sure to turn the power switch to the OFF position and pull the power plug out from the socket to prevent damage from occurring when the power is restored. 38. Do not use massager in close proximity to loose clothing or jewelry. 39. Keep long hair away from massage chair while in use. abdomen. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for the electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord or an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. DANGER Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service technician if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the product if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified technician. This product is for use on a nominal 120V circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated to the right. Make sure the product is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this product. To move the massage chair, lift up by the legrest until the chair inclines on its casters at about a 45o angle. 2. Slowly push and maneuver the massage chair to the desired location. Lower the chair slowly and smoothly until it is fully flat on the ground. Caution Do not move the massage chair when someone is sitting in it. This will cause the chair to tip over, resulting in acci-
dent and injuries. Moving the massage chair may cause damage to floors. Floor protection, such as rugs or carpet, is recommended. Do not drop or suddenly let go of the chair when moving, as it may damage the chair. To avoid injury and minimize the chance of dropping the chair, it is recommended that two people move the chair. Do not move by pulling on the cord or DRAFT on the controller. When positioning your Signature 3D Massage Chair, allow sufficient space between the chair and walls or other obstacles, and place in an appropriate location. Allow 3 to 4 inches (7 to 10 cm) between the back of the chair and any walls or obstacles. POSITIONING THE CHAIR 3 - 4 in. 32 in. cles. Place on a dry, level surface. Do not place in direct sunlight or in places of high temperature. 7 Caution CONTROLLER Before operating the massage chair, review the warnings beginning on Page 2. Do not operate if there are any holes or tears in the chair covering. Unplug the chair and contact Brookstone Customer Service at 866-336-3199. To avoid overheating, the massage chair will automatically shut off if it begins to overheat. Allow the chair to cool for a minimum of 30 minutes before starting another massage session. When adjusting the backrest and foot rest, always ensure there is no object under the footrest/seat and keep children or pets away to prevent injury. Do not sit on the Signature 3D Massage Chair with the foot rest raised. Any sudden heavy weight on the foot rest could cause damage to the mechanism, accident and injury if the massage chair tips over. Ensure that the backrest returns to its full upright position before sitting on the massage chair and reclining it according to your preference. Do not place fingers or objects in the gap between the seat and the sides/
backrest/footrest. OPERATING THE MASSAGE CHAIR 1. Ensure that the main power switch, located on the back of the chair, is in the OFF ( O ) position. DRAFT 2. Plug the power cord into the power inlet on the back of the chair, and plug the other end into an appropriate outlet. See Page 5 for information on appropriately grounded outlets. 3. Click the main power switch, located on the back of the chair, to the ON ( | ) position. 4. Press the Power button on the controller or on the Quick Access Panel. 5. Select your massage options, as described on Pages 10 through 14. Each massage session should not exceed 30 minutes. Targeted massage should not exceed 5 minutes on any one area. Store the controller above the right arm rest. Magnets hold it in place. Do not sit on, step on, or place heavy objects on the controller. Do not drop the controller. Place the controller into its holder when not in use. Do not exert excessive force on the controller, or operate it using sharp-
edged or hard objects. Do not handle the controller with wet hands. Do not attempt to move the chair by pulling on the controller. In an emergency or if there is any malfunction, press the Power on the controller to stop the massage. The massage will stop, button the nodes will return to their home position, and the chair will return to the exit position. Click the main power switch on the back of the chair to the OFF position. 8 9

The chair moves to its Home position (legrest slightly STARTING, PAUSING, AND STOPPING YOUR MASSAGE To turn on the massage chair, click on the main power switch on the back of the chair, then press the Power button on the controller or on the Quick Access Panel raised, backrest slightly reclined, rollers in upper part of backrest), and the Menu Panel on the controller lights up. If no selection is made after 3 minutes, the chair will go into sleep mode and the Menu Panel light will go off. If there is no movement or activity for 15 minutes, the controller will power down. The first press of the Power Button will wake the controller up; the second press of the Power Button will return the chair to the Exit position. Any button pressed on the controller will wake the controller from sleep mode. To pause the motion and timer, press the Pause Button or on the controller or on the Quick Access Panel . The chair will enter idle mode. The air cells deflate, but the rollers do not return to their Home position. Press again to resume your massage. To turn off the massage chair, ensure that there are no obstacles under the footrest and press the Power button on the controller or on the Quick Access Panel. The rollers return to their Home position, all air cells deflate, and the chair moves to the Exit position. Click off the main power switch on the back of the chair and unplug the chair. MAIN MENU OPTIONS When you turn on the massage chair, the Menu Panel becomes active and displays the Main Menu. To navigate between the options in the Main Menu, use the Navigation Controls arrow buttons to move up, down, left, and right. Press OK to confirm your selection. To return to the Main Menu, press the Menu button on the controller or press the left arrow. The six options on the Main Menu are:
AUTO allows you to select one of 20 automatic massage programs. You can customize some aspects of these programs, such as the massage time and heat setting. See Page 11 for more information on Automatic Programs. CUSTOM allows you to select the type of massage and set options such as speed, air intensity, and the zone for the massage. See Page 14 for more information on Custom options. HEAT allows you to turn the heat feature on or off in target zones. The default is off for most automatic programs. TIME allows you to set a timer for your massage in increments of 10, 15, 20, and 30 minutes. You can also add 5 minute increments, up to a 30 minute maximum. The default massage time is 15 minutes. DRAFT FPO This option also shows the Total Run Time, which is the total minutes the chair has run for the life of the chair. 3D Intensity allows you to adjust the depth of the massage node rotation
(the 3D massage effect), from Level 1 (lightest) to Level 5 (deepest). Foot Setting allows you to select whether the air compression and/or rollers in the footrest should be OFF or ON. SCANNING When you select an automatic or custom massage, the chair begins by scanning your body height. The sensor will beep for several seconds, during which time you can modify the setting. Press the UP and DOWN buttons on the navigation control to change the scanned shoulder height. Once the beeping stops, the height is set. To reset, you must power down the chair. AUTOMATIC PROGRAMS Selecting AUTO in the Main Menu displays 20 Automatic Program options:
FPO DRAFT SIGNATURE This program showcases the signature massage technique of the Signature 3D Massage Chair - the Knead & Hold. It also features the ankle hold with a Dynamic Squeeze wave of compression down your body starting in the shoulders, traveling to your feet, and then traveling back up. ENERGIZE The most intense of the massage programs, with deeply penetrating massage techniques. This program defaults to 3D Level 4. For less intensity, press the 3D button and select a lower level. RECOVER This program is less intense than Energize and uses moderate 3D pressure to help relieve stress and speed recovery from physical exertion or daily activity. Air cell compression massage is used to improve circulation as well as relaxation. RELAX This program is focused on total body relaxation with shiatsu and rolling massage techniques, and air cell massage. The chair will be in Zero G position for the majority of the program to enhance your relaxation. SOOTHE This program is designed for soothing relaxation, utilizing sequences of air cell massage and gentle rolling techniques for the least intensive massage. This program defaults to 3D Level 1. For more intensity, press the 3D button and select a higher level. 10 11 NIGHT A sequence of massage and chair movements to help you relax for a good nights sleep. Starts with a quick massage and ends with air only. To maintain your state of deep relaxation, this program does not signal one minute remaining or return to the Home position. To return to the Home position, press the Power Button. MORNING As the chair progresses from Zero Gravity to the Home position, a sequence of massage techniques increase in intensity as your body gets ready for the day. ALL AIR A Dynamic Squeeze massage, exclusively using air cell compression in the foot, calf, hips, arms, hands and shoulders. ZERO G This program highlights all of the massage features, while mostly remaining in the Zero G position. Movement into the Zero G position will enhance the total body massage and relieves pressure on the spine. STRETCH A series of grab, hold and stretch sequences using the chair and foot recline , combined with traditional massage techniques. Helps with muscle recovery and the benefits of stretching. Heat is on for the beginning of the massage and then turns off halfway through. FLEX Mixes massage and stretching motions to achieve combined benefits. Utilizes 3D motion to extend the back, and foot massage with air compression to stretch the legs. TWIST Series of twisting and stretching motions using air cell grabs, holds and chair movement. Integrated massage throughout the program. DRAFT SPORTS RELIEF A program designed to encourage recovery from exercise featuring total body shiatsu, including calf nodes, to work your full body and legs. Dynamic Squeeze sequences in all air zones will relax muscles, improve circulation and aid in recovery. STRESS RELIEF Program designed to help reduce stress carried in the upper and lower back. Also works calves and feet to help reduce stress from prolonged time on your feet. BACK RELIEF Helps to relieve lower and upper back aches through a series of massage techniques. Lumbar and shoulder heat is on, and then shuts off halfway through. FULL BODY Complete massage from neck to toes utilizing many different massage techniques. Use for all over massage benefit. SETTING AND SAVING PREFERENCES Each Automatic Program is designed for a specific effect, but you can customize each massage in several ways:
Change the massage length using the Time menu, as described on Page 10. Change the 3D level, as described on Page 14. Adjust the Heat feature, as described on Page 14. Move into or out of the Zero G position, as described on Page 14. Adjust the footrest and backrest position, as described on Page 14. Turn the footrest airbags and rollers on or off, as described on Page 14. DOES SETTING AIR INTENSITY OR ANYTHING ELSE ON THE CUSTOM MENU WORK WITHOUT CHANGING YOUR AUTO PROGRAM? IT DIDNT SEEM TO WORK FOR ME. You can retain up to three sets of customized settings for use in a future massage session. To retain your customized settings, press and hold the Auto 1, Auto 2, or Auto 3 button on the Quick Access Panel. You can then recall the settings for a future massage session by pressing the Auto 1, Auto 2, or Auto 3 button. DRAFT UPPER BODY Focused on the back, arms, shoulders and neck. LOWER BODY Focused on the lower back, seat and foot. NECK & SHOULDER A sequence of neck, shoulder, and upper back massage techniques with increasing recline. Generates deeper penetration due to increasing gravitational force. QUICK A six minute demonstration of all available massage techniques. You can also activate the Quick program from the Quick button on the controller. Automatic massages are approximately 15 minutes long. A tone sounds when there is one minute left on the massage timer. When an Automatic Program completes, the chair returns to the Home position. 12 13 MONITORING SCREEN After you select an Automatic Massage massage style, the Menu Panel displays the Monitoring Screen. This screen changes dynamically, showing you the currently active massage technique, node location, and other settings. The following is an example of a Monitoring Screen displayed during a Recovery massage. FPO 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 The Monitoring Screen displays:
1. The program being run. 2. The depth of the massage node rotation (the 3D massage effect), from Level 1(lightest) to Level 5 (deepest). 3. The shoulder height adjustment reminder, displayed for six seconds. See Page 11 for information on shoulder height adjustment. 4. The air position, roller position, and body position of the massage. Active areas are displayed in orange; inactive areas are displayed in blue. 5. The massage speed, airbag pressure, massage width, and roller 17 14 15 16 DRAFT movement. 6. Time remaining on the massage. 7. Kneading massage. 8. Tapping massage. 9. Knead & Tap massage. 10. Shiatsu massage. 11. Rolling massage. 12. Clap-Thai massage. 13. Knead & Hold massage. 14. Zone 15. The heat setting (ON/OFF for upper and/or lower zones). 16. Bluetooth (ON/OFF). 17. Zero-gravity position (ON/OFF). CUSTOM MASSAGE SELECTIONS To custom design a massage to best suit your needs, select the CUSTOM option on the Main Menu and press OK. The chair will auto-sense your shoulder position (if not previously set) and the Menu Panel will display the CUSTOM massage options. FPO DRAFT Use the Navigation Controls arrow buttons to select your massage options, then click OK to confirm your selection and start the massage. You can change individual custom options during your massage. The default time for a custom massage is approximately 15 minutes, but you can adjust the time with the Time function, as described on Page 10. TYPE: Select one of the seven massage styles: Kneading, Tapping, Knead &
Tap, Shiatsu, Rolling, Clap-Thai, or Knead & Hold, and press OK to begin the massage. ZONE: The area of your body to be massaged - Full Body, Upper Body, Lower Body, or Target. When you select Target, the nodes will remain at their current location. WIDTH: The WIDTH of the massage - Wide, Medium, or Narrow. This option is not available in Kneading or Knead + Tap modes. SPEED: The SPEED of the massage, from Level 1 (slowest) to Level 5
(fastest). This option is not available with Rolling mode. FOOT ROLLER: Select ON or OFF. LEG ROLLER: Select ON or OFF. CUSTOM AIR ZONE: Select the air bags to be activated during your massage: Full Body, Shoulder, Hip, Arm, Calf, Foot, or OFF. CUSTOM AIR INTENSITY: Select the intensity of the air pressure to be used in the active air bags, from Level 1 (least intense) to Level 3 (most intense) or OFF. 14 15 SETTING THE 3D LEVEL The 3D button on the controller allows you to adjust the depth of the massage node rotation (the 3D massage effect), from Level 1 (lightest) to Level 5 (deepest). The Monitoring Screen displays the 3D level. This button is also available on the Quick Access Panel, described on Page 17. SETTING THE HEAT OPTION You can turn the heat option on or off in the Upper Body, Lower Body, or Full Body zones. You can set the heat feature using either the Heat button on the controller or the Heat menu. The Monitoring Screen shows the zones in which heat is activated. SELECTING ZERO GRAVITY POSITION You can enjoy your massage in a standard sitting position or in the Zero Gravity position. In Zero Gravity, the backrest reclines and the footrest is raised, allowing you to raise your feet above your heart. Press the Zero Gravity button on the controller to activate Zero Gravity. ADJUSTING THE FOOTREST AND BACKREST POSITION You can adjust the position of the footrest and backrest using the Footrest and Backrest position buttons. Press and hold the button until the footrest or backrest is in your preferred position. The chair will beep while the footrest or backrest is moving. Once the footrest and/or backrest position has been adjusted, it will override any programmed position in the Auto programs. The 3D LED Indicator displays the depth. 16 17 PAIRING WITH A DEVICE AND PLAYING MUSIC The speakers in your massage chair can connect to a Bluetooth-enabled device. The chair does not have to be powered on to use the Bluetooth feature. To pair with a device:
1. Prepare your device to pair using Bluetooth wireless technology, making sure it is within 33 feet of the massage chair. Refer to your devices owners manual for details if necessary. 2. Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the Quick Access Panel for 1 second. The LED indicator is solid orange for 5 seconds as the massage chair searches for previously paired devices. If no connection is made within 5 seconds, the massage chair enters Bluetooth pairing mode. The LED Indicator flashes orange. Once the massage chair is in pairing mode and your device is ready to pair, select Signature 3D Massage Chair on your device. If prompted, use 0000 as a PIN for the pairing code. Once Signature 3D Massage Chair is selected, the LED Indicator changes to solid orange and a tone sounds to confirm pairing is complete. 3. To enter Bluetooth pairing mode manually, press and hold the Bluetooth button until the LED Indicator starts flashing orange (approximately 2 seconds of holding the Bluetooth button if Bluetooth is on, 4 seconds of holding the Bluetooth button if Bluetooth is off). 4. Press the Volume Up button to increased the volume. Press the Volume Down button button to decrease the volume. The LED Indicator shows the volume level. The maximum volume level is determined by the volume setting on your device. 5. Press the Play/Pause button to pause and resume the audio. 6.
