Thank you for choosing a Stannah Stairlift. In order to ensure that your stairlift always works perfectly, please take note of the following advice:
Before using your stairlift, read all of the instructions carefully. This stairlift is designed to carry one person only, at a maximum weight limit of 120kg (19 stone). Your stairlift should only be maintained by Stannah approved service engineers. Stairlifts are electromechanical products which require regular safety inspections and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation. It is for this reason that we recommend at least one annual safety inspection/ maintenance visit. Your stairlift is designed to run for four minutes out of every ten. If you constantly operate the stairlift the motor will not be allowed to cool between journeys and may be damaged. Your local Stannah Service Centre will be pleased to discuss the servicing of your stairlift and warranty arrangements (refer to the front cover for local Stannah Service Centre details). CAUTION:
Any modifications to this device not expressly authorised by the manufacturer could void the users authority to operate this device. 17 2 Description of the Stairlift Cleaning the Stairlift 3 10 9 8 5 4 7 6 2 The stairlift upholstery is resistant to most household stains, which can be wiped off without any problem. As with all vinyls, regular cleaning with a damp soapy cloth or sponge followed by a wipe with a clean damp cloth will help the upholstery retain its attractive appearance. Heavy soiling should be removed by light scrubbing with a soft brush. Solvent cleaners, bleaches, abrasives, synthetic detergents, wax polishes and aerosol sprays must not be used in any circumstances. If special cleaning agents are necessary, advice can be obtained from your local Stannah Service Centre. The rail surface can be cleaned using a small application of any conventional kitchen surface spray-on cleaner. However, some darkening of this running surface is normal. 1 Please Note:
Wax or silicon based polishes should not be used on the rail. Denotes: Safety Pads Please Note:
The appearance of your stairlift may alter slightly from that shown above. 3 16 Battery Charging System Description of the Stairlift A red indicator will illuminate on the charger when the system is supplied with mains power. When the stairlift is parked at the stopping positions,
(normally at the top and bottom of the stairs), the yellow light on the chair arm will illuminate. If the stairlift is not parked at the top of bottom of the rail, a beeper will sound to remind you to park the stairlift on a charging point. NOTE:
The battery charger contains no user serviceable parts. In the event that the mains power supply cord to the battery charger becomes damaged, the mains power switch should be turned off immediately. Please inform your stairlift supplier. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 The mains power switch is located on the wall. The battery charger ensures that the batteries are always charged. This releases the locking mechanism allowing you to swivel the seat to face the landing. Swivel Lever Swivel Lever Note:
The stairlift will not operate until the seat is returned to its travelling position. Open the front compartment cover as shown. Disconnect the battery. Replace it with a 9 volt PP3 battery. NOTE: A NiCad rechargeable battery must not be used. Ensure polarity is observed. Replace the front compartment cover. Subject to normal stairlift usage, the minimum life expectancy of this battery is six months. 7 12 Handwinding the Stairlift Should it be necessary to handwind the stairlift out of the way:

After a two second pause, the seat will swivel automatically to face the landing. To return to the travelling position, simply operate the directional control button for the down direction. The seat can also be operated by using the wall controls. In the unlikely event that the seat will not operate whilst in the swivelled position, it can be returned to the travelling position by using the manual swivel levers (see page 7). If the swivel will not operate again after performing a manual return, contact you Local Service Centre.
