Ctrl Home PgUp End PgDn Pause Break ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 2-5 Using the touch panel Your EKB PC comes with a 5 Touch panel, which enables you to use your EKB PC like a standard fully-functional computer. The touch panel allows you to use touch gestures instead of a standard mouse to select items or navigate around the screen. Using the Touch gestures Touch gestures are movements that you make with the use of your finger to select items or navigate around the screen. Use light pressure when making a touch gesture. Do not use any objects in place of your finger to operate the touch panel. Doing so may damage or scratch the touchscreens surface. Moving around the screen Slide your finger upward/
downward/leftward/rightward to move up/down/to the left/to the right of the screen. Tapping Tap once to select an item. Single tap 2-6 Chapter 2: Using your EKB PC Tap twice to launch an application. Double tap Scrolling Tap your finger on the scrollbar, then slide your finger upward to scroll up a document or a webpage. Scroll up Tap your finger on the scrollbar, then slide your finger downward to scroll down a document or a webpage. Scroll down ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 2-7 Updating the BIOS ASUS Update, a pre-installed utility in your EKB PC, allows you to manage, save, and update the EKB PC BIOS in Windows environment. ASUS Update requires an Internet connection either through a network or an Internet Service Provider (ISP). This utility is is also available in the support DVD that comes with the EKB PC package. To update the BIOS:

ASUSUpdate to launch the ASUS Update utility. 3. From the dropdown list, select any of the updating process:
Updating from the Internet a. Select Update BIOS from the Internet, then click Next. b. Select the ASUS FTP site nearest you to avoid network traffic, or click Auto Select then click Next. c. From the FTP site, select the BIOS version that you wish to download then click Next. Updating from a BIOS file a. Select Update BIOS from a file, then click Next. b. Locate the BIOS file from the Open window, then click Open. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the updating process. 2-8 Chapter 2: Using your EKB PC Chapter 3 Getting connected Connecting to the Internet Wired connection Use an RJ-45 cable to connect the EeeKeyboard PC to an ADSL modem or a local area network (LAN). Connecting via an ADSL modem To connect via an ADSL modem:
1. Connect one end of the RJ-45 cable to the LAN port of the ADSL modem and the other end to the LAN port at the back of the EeeKeyboard PC. 2. Turn on the ADSL modem and the EeeKeyboard PC. Connecting via the Local Area Network (LAN) To connect via LAN:
1. 2. Connect one end of the RJ-45 cable to your LAN and the other end to the LAN port at the back of the EeeKeyboard PC. Configure the Internet connection settings using a dynamic or static IP address. Refer to the succeeding sections to configure the Internet settings using a dynamic or static IP address. If you have difficulty connecting to the Internet via LAN, contact your network administrator. 3-1 Using a dynamic IP address To use a dynamic IP address:
on the Windows taskbar and select 1. 2. Right-click the network icon Open Network Connections. Right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties. 3. Click Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) and click Properties. 3-2 Chapter 3: Getting connected 4. Click Obtain an IP address automatically and click OK. 5. Click Create a new connection to start the New Connection Wizard. 6. Select your connection type and click Next. 3-4 Chapter 3: Getting connected 10. Enter your ISP Name and click Next. 11. Key in your User name and Password. Click Next. 12 Click Finish to finish the configuration. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 3-5 13. Enter your user name and password. Click Connect to connect to the Internet. Using a static IP address To use a static IP address:
1. 2 3. 4. 5. Repeat steps 13 in the section Using a dynamic IP. Click Use the following IP address. Key in the IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway. Get these information from your ISP or from your network administrator. If needed, enter the preferred DNS Server address and alternative address. After entering all the related values, click OK to establish the connection. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your network administrator if you have problems connecting to the network. 3-6 Chapter 3: Getting connected Connecting to a wireless network To connect to a wireless network:
1. Connect the wireless antenna to the wireless antenna ports at the back of the EeeKeyboard PC. 2. Double-click the wireless network icon in the Windows taskbar. If the wireless connection icon does not show in the taskbar, press
(<Fn> + <F2>) to turn on the wireless function. 3. From the list, select the wireless network or access point you want to connect to and click Connect to establish the connection. If you cannot find the desired access point, click Refresh network list in the left pane and select from the list again. 4. When connecting, you may have to key in a password. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 3-7 5. After establishing a successful connection, the connection status is displayed. Using Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that allows your EeeKeyboard PC to communicate with other Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as PCs, mobile devices, headsets, GPS receivers, and headset, within a short range of about 10 meters or 30 feet. Bluetooth devices only need to be within the specified range to exchange information and the devices do not need any physical connection. By default, the Bluetooth function is turned on on your EeeKeyboard PC. Setting up the basic Bluetooth environment Your EeeKeyboard PC is equipped with a built-in Bluetooth transceiver. Before you can begin to use the Bluetooth function on your EeeKeyboard PC, you need to set up the basic Bluetooth settings. To set up the basic Bluetooth environment:

+ <F2>) repeatedly until WLAN OFF & Bluetooth ON or WLAN & Bluetooth ON is shown. 3-8 Chapter 3: Getting connected 2. On the Windows desktop, click My Bluetooth Places. In the Initial Bluetooth Configuration Wizard, select the alternative locations where you want the Bluetooth icon to appear. Click Next. 3. Key in a unique name for your EeeKeyboard PC and select the computer type. Click Next. 4. Click Next to configure the Bluetooth services that your EeeKeyboard PC will offer to or share with other Bluetooth devices. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 3-9 5. Select the Bluetooth service that you want to enable or configure. Click Next. 6. Before setting up a Bluetooth connection, ensure that the other device is set to discoverable mode. Click Next to start searching for other Bluetooth devices. To set the other device to discoverable mode, refer to the documentation that came with the other device. 7. From the list of available Bluetooth devices, select the device you want to connect to, then click Next. 3-10 Chapter 3: Getting connected 8. If your selected device requires a security key to put it on a pairing mode with your EeeKeyboard PC, key in the Bluetooth security code. Some Bluetooth devices come with built-in security code or passkey. Refer to the devices documentation for the security code or passkey. 9. After pairing the devices, select the service you want from the list and click Finish to use the selected service. Wipe the EKB PC using a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water then remove any extra moisture with a dry cloth. DO NOT place on uneven or unstable work surfaces. Seek servicing if the casing has been damaged. DO NOT expose to dirty or dusty environments. DO NOT operate during a gas leak. DO NOT place together with small items that may scratch or damage the EKB PC. DO NOT leave the EKB PC on your lap or any part of the body to prevent discomfort or injury from heat exposure. DO NOT expose to strong magnetic or electrical fields. DO NOT expose to or use near liquids, rain, or moisture. SAFE TEMP: This EKB PC should only be used in environments with ambient temperatures between 5C (41F) and 35C (95F) DO NOT place or drop objects on top and do not shove any foreign objects into the EKB PC. Check local regulations for disposal of electronic products. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC vii Transportation Precautions To prepare your EKB PC for transport, follow these guidelines:
Turn OFF the EKB PC and disconnect all external peripherals to prevent damage to the connectors. Put your EKB PC in a carrying case to protect it from dirt, water, shock, and scratches. Ensure that the battery is turned OFF to prevent the EKB PC from accidentally turning ON during transport. For more details, refer to the section Turning ON/OFF the battery in this user manual. Charging the battery The EKB PC is equipped with a built-in battery. To prolong the battery life, follow these guidelines:
Ensure that you charge the battery for up to four hours when you use the EKB PC for the first time and whenever the battery power is fully depleted. Ensure that you plugged the AC adapter to the correct input power rating. Check the label on the AC adapter for the correct input rating. Ensure that the EKB PC is turned OFF when you charge the battery. viii Airplane Precautions Contact your airline if you want to use the EKB PC on the airplane. Most airlines have restrictions for using electronic devices. Most airlines allow electronic use only between and not during takeoffs and landings. There are three main types of airport security devices: X-ray machines (used on items placed on conveyor belts), magnetic detectors (used on people walking through security checks), and magnetic wands (hand-held devices used on people or individual items). You can send your EKB PC and discs through airport X-ray machines. However, we recommend that you do not send your EKB PC or discs through airport magnetic detectors or expose them to magnetic wands. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC xi Chapter 1 Getting started Proper posture when using your EKB PC Maintaining the proper posture is necessary to prevent strain to your wrists, hands, and other joints or muscles. This section provides you with tips on avoiding physical discomfort and possible injury while using and fully enjoying your EeeKeyboard PC (EKB PC). Setting up your workspace Place your EKB PC on a flat stable surface and in a comfortably-lit area. Place your EKB PC directly in front of you, and adjust your EKB PC to get a comfortable keying position. Keying on your EKB PC Move your entire arm to reduce bending your wrists. Avoid bending your wrists sideways or upward. Keep your wrists in a straight or neutral position. Keep a soft touch on the keys. Use keyboard shortcuts for common or repetitive tasks. 1-1 Using peripherals If you intend to use your EKB PC for a long time:
Connect an external monitor for a larger external display. Use an external mouse. Position the external mouse within easy reach. Illuminated Keypad The keypad comes with LED light to guide you in dim light or in darkness. 1-2 Chapter 1: Getting started 3 4 5 Power button Press to turn on or to force shut down your EKB PC. Home key Press to go back to the previous page or to the home page. LED indicators These indicators display the status of the battery, wireless connection, and storage device. Battery indicator: Indicates the battery status. Solid green: Battery is fully-charged. Solid yellow: Battery is charging. Blinking white: Battery is running low. Wireless indicator: Indicates the wireless connection status. Solid white: WLAN function is enabled. Storage device indicator: Indicates the storage device status. Solid white: Storage device is accessed. USB 2.0 ports Insert USB devices such as PDAs, scanners, printers, cameras, and storage devices, into these ports. Air vents The air vents allow cool air to enter and warm air to exit the EKB PC. Power (DC) Input Insert the AC adapter into this port to supply power to the EKB PC and charge the internal battery. To prevent damage to the EKB PC and battery, always use the bundled AC adapter. Battery switch Enables or disables battery. Headphone Output jack Insert your headphone connector into this jack. Using this jack automatically disables the built-in speakers. Getting your EKB PC ready Turning the battery ON/OFF Out of the box, the built-in battery is set to OFF mode to prevent the EKB PC from accidentally turning ON during transport. To turn the battery on/off:
1. 2. 1-6 Locate the battery switch at the back of the EKB PC. Use a pointed object such as a ballpen to switch on/off the EKB PC. Turning ON and fully charging the battery allows you to use the EKB PC for about four hours without using an AC adapter. Chapter 1: Getting started Charging the battery Ensure that the battery is turned on before charging it. To charge the battery:
1. 2. 3. Connect the AC power cord to the AC adapter. Connect the AC adapter to the DC-in port at the back of your EKB PC. Connect the AC adapter to a power outlet. Use only the AC adapter that comes with your EKB PC. Using a different AC adapter may damage your device. Fully charge the battery for four hours when you use the EKB PC for the first time and whenever the battery power is fully depleted. The bundled AC adapter varies with country/region. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 1-7 Starting up When you use the EKB PC for the first time, a startup message is displayed to guide you in configuring the basic settings for your EKB PC. To start up:

( ) as it moves on each crosshair (+) to calibrate the touch panel. Calibrating the touch panel ensures that the touch feature works properly when you lightly tap the screen with the stylus of with your finger. Follow the succeeding onscreen instructions to finish the setup. After the setup is completed, the Easy Mode screen automatically launches. Use your EKB PC as you would use a standard computer. To re-calibrate the screen, click the Tools & Setting icon from the Easy Mode screen, then select Touch Screen Calibration. definition video transmission and ten-meter range for non-video transmission. Creating a wireless pairing If you are using the Ultra Wideband function for the first time, create a wireless pairing between the Ultra Wideband receiver and the EKB PC. Once a wireless pairing is created between the Ultra Wideband receiver and the EKB PC, you can wirelessly connect to a high-definition device. To create a wireless pairing:

Insert the AC adapter into the DC-In port of the Ultra Wideband receiver and plug the AC adapter into a power outlet. Connect one end of the bundled mini-USB cable at the mini-USB port of the Ultra Wideband receiver. Connect the other end to a USB port at the back of the EKB PC. The Ultra Wideband receiver should be positioned within a clear line of sight to and facing the wireless antenna. ASUS EeeKeyboard PC 1-15 4. 5. From the Easy Mode screen, tap the Ultra Wideband icon the upper right corner of the screen, then tap ON. at Select the Ultra Wideband receiver to establish the Ultra Wideband connection. The Ultra Wideband LED turns white to indicate a successful connection. If the Ultra Wideband receiver failed to establish connection, check if the Ultra Wideband receiver is turned ON and the wireless antenna is connected, then try again. You may purchase an additional Ultra Wideband receiver to wirelessly connect another device to your EKB PC. 1-16 Chapter 1: Getting started Connecting an external monitor wirelessly Ensure that you have set up the Ultra Wideband connection between your EKB PC and the Ultra Wideband receiver. For more details, refer to the section Creating a wireless pairing. To connect an external monitor wirelessly:
