1. Rear camera For video communications or photo-taking 6 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Configuring operating system for the first time When using it for the first time, you have to configure the operating system. The configuring process involves the following steps:

Create user account Operating system interface Windows 8.1 consists of two user interfaces: startup page and desktop .If you want to shift from startup page to desktop , please do one of the followings:

Move the cursor to the bottom left corner and choose it when the icon shows up. Startup page Desktop 7 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 HotKeys HotKeys refers to the navigating buttons controlling Windows 8.1, including search, share, start, device and setting. The HotKeys menu bar refers to the list HotKeys. The five HotKeys provide a new and faster way for multiple tasking. HotKeys can be used at all the time regardless of application. If you want to make the Charm buttons show up, please do one of the followings:
Move the cursor to the top right corner or bottom right corner until the HotKeys Bar shows up.
Touch the screen from the right side to the center until the HotKeys Bar shows up.
8 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Search HotKeys The search button is a powerful and brand new way of searching items including application, settings and files. 9 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 HotKeys Sharing The share button can be used to send links, photos and other targets to your friends or to have them uploaded to social networks while you dont have to shut down the program you are using. Startup HotKeys It helps to shift to the startup interface rapidly. Device HotKeys It helps with linking or sending files to any connecting device such as digital camera, television or printer. Setting HotKeys It helps with basic tasks like setting volume or powering off the PC. In addition, it can help to start the control panel when you are using the desktop interface.
10 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Set tablet PC into a sleep mode or power off When you stop using it, you can set it in a sleep mode or power off. Set tablet PC into a sleep mode If the tablet PC is idle for a period of short time, you can set it into a sleep mode during which you can skip the startup program and wake up the PC directly. Do one of the followings to set the tablet PC into sleep mode:
Press the power button.
Start the HotKeys and choose setup power sleep Do wake up the tablet PC:
Press the power button. 11 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Power off If the tablet PC is not used for a long time, you can have it powered off. To power off it:
1.You can start the HotKeys and choose setup button
2. Choose the power button power off 12 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Touch-screen operation The screen can be input by keyboard and touchpad like traditional laptops. Multi-touch gesture You can use one or more finger tips to touch the screen for various tasks. Common Swipe Movement Execution Click lick a certain item. Keep pressing Press and keep the gesture for a certain time. Operate one task such as starting up applications, opening links or executing command, like clicking the left mouse button. Zoom in or zoom out views for like pictures or maps in visual application program or shift to in the list to the top or bottom. Swipe Spin two or more fingers on the items and spin the fingers around. Slide Slide your fingers on the screen. Spin items. (Note: depends on application, not all items can be spun around programs.) Translate or roll the display list and pages, or move items for drawing or writing, which depends on the application programs. Common Swipe Movement Execution Slide lightly Slide from either side to the center Slide from the top to the bottom or vice versa, the task bar will show at the screen bottom with application programs including save, edit and delete. If you start an application program, you can:
Slide from the top downwards to the center (not lifting up fingers halfway) to put the current program to the left or right side of the screen. In this way, you can concurrently starting two programs in the form of screen splitting.

Slide from the right side to the center to find HotKeys 16 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Connecting to WIFI network Start up WIFI network connection To confirm whether flight mode is disabled, check the notice page on the desktop. If you see this icon on the bottom right corner, the flight mode is enabled;
otherwise, the WIFI function has been enabled. Note: The flight mode is disabled in default setting. If the flight mode is enabled, please do the following to start WIFI function:
Start the Charm, choose setting button and open internet setting page to turn off the flight mode button. When connecting to the WIFI network, the PC will automatically scan available WIFI network and display it in the WIFI network list. Select the WIFI network and click to connect. Note: In order to connect to some WIFI networks may require Internet safety key or Password from the . network administrator. 17 Chapter 2 Get to use Windows 8.1 Help and support If you encounter any problems in using the operating system, please refer to MS Windows help and support files. You are free to read the Windows help and support files on the tablet PC or get obtain online help and support by clicking the link displayed by More to explore. Note: Windows 8.1 also offers an application program named help + tips. You can find this program on the startup desktop for more information about Windows 8.1.
18 Chapter 3 System Recovery Click General Push-button Reset is a set of built-in recovery tools to allow users to restore the operating system to the initial state, and simultaneously preserve the original data and important personalized settings, without backing up the data in advance. Users can use the Push-button Reset in many places in the Windows system for different functions. To refresh the tablet PC: reinstall the factory default configuration to resolve the software problem, and preserve the user data, important settings and all application programs previously purchased from Windows application store simultaneously. Reset the tablet PC Reinstall the factory default configuration and restore all user data and application programs to the initial state of (OOBE), ready for recovery of tablet PC or transfer of ownership. How to use Push-button Reset Push-button Reset can be started in the position as below:

- Windows PC Settings Update and Restore Restore Advanced Startup select Restart Now For further information, see the Windows help and support files on the PC. 19 Chapter 4 Troubleshooting Troubleshooting If users fail to find the solution to a problem in this section, please see the Chapter 1. This section only describes the problems without need of referring to the further information in Chapter 1. Display problem There is no display on the screen when Power on the tablet PC.
If the screen is stays black, please make sure that:
- AC power adapter has been connected to the tablet PC and adoptor has been plugged into the main properly.
- The power of the tablet PC has been turned on. Press the power button for 2s again for confirmation.
- Press the power button for 10s to cold shut down the tablet PC, and then press the power button for 2s again, to restart the tablet PC.
If the above items have been set correctly, but the tablet PC remains to be black screen, please send it to be repaired. The screen becomes black when the tablet PC is running.
Please do the following to restore running from sleep mode:
- Press the power button. Sleep Problem
After the fault information that battery is critically low is displayed, the tablet PC is shut down immediately. After the power is turned on, the tablet PC goes into sleep mode immediately.
The battery is low. Connect the AC power adapter to the tablet PC. Please ensure:
- The battery has been fully charged.
- Working temperature is within the acceptable range. 20 Notes: If the battery has been fully charged and working temperature is within the acceptable range, please do the following:
a. Firstly, press the power button for 2s to start up the tablet PC. b. Secondly, press and hold the power button for 10s to force to shut down the tablet PC. c. Next, press the power button for 2s to restart the tablet PC, and then use Push-button Reset recovery system to reset the tablet PC. If the problem still exists, please send the tablet PC to be repaired. The tablet PC can not return from sleep mode and it does not work.
If the tablet PC can not return from sleep mode, the battery could be fully discharged..
If the tablet PC is in sleep mode, connect the AC power adapter to the tablet PC and then press the power button.
If the tablet PC is in Power off state, connect the AC power adapter to the tablet PC and then press the power button to restore running. Notes: If the system still can not return from sleep mode and it has stopped responding, and moreover, the tablet PC can not be shut down, please coldshut down the tablet PC, but the data not yet saved may be lost. To cold shut down the tablet PC, please hold the power button for 10s or longer. If the tablet PC still can not be shut down, please unplug the AC power adapter. Screen failures Black screen
Please take the measures as follows:
- Please press the power button to confirm whether the tablet PC is in sleep mode.
- If the screen stays black when power-on, please refer to screen is unreadable or distorted. Screen content is unreadable or distorted.
Please ensure the right setting of screen resolution and color quality. 21 Unrecongnised character appears on the screen operating system or program install properly? If both installation and configuration are correct , please follow the steps:
a. Please hold the power button for 2s to restart the tablet PC;
b. Please press the power button for 10s to cold forcibly shut down the tablet PC;
c. Press the power button for 2s to restart the tablet PC, and then use Push- button Reset to recover system and reset the tablet PC;
If the problem still persists, please send the tablet PC for repair. Sound failure Its impossible to hear any sound from the loudspeaker even if the volume is tuned up. Please ensure
- Mute function is off.
- Combined audio jack isnt connected.
- Loudspeaker is selected as player. Battery failure Your tablet PC has been power off before the battery indictor indicates no more power.

Your tablet PC is still in operation after the battery indicator indicates no power. Please discharge the battery, and then recharge it again. Startup failure Microsoft Windows operating system cant be started up. For further information, please refer to System Recovery in Chapter 3, Page 19. System recovery failure System zoning cant be recovered to the factory default state. System zone size, drive capacity ,etc has changed. Other failures No response to the tablet PC Please press and hold the power button for 10s or longer shut down the tablet PC. If the tablet PC still doesnt respond, please unplug the AC adapter. 22 FCC RF Exposure Information and Statement The SAR limit of USA (FCC) is 1.6 W/kg averaged over one gram of tissue. Device types Tablet (FCC ID: ZL9-
M87GB2) has also been tested against this SAR limit. The highest reported SAR values for body are 0.3696 W/kg. This device was tested for typical body-worn operations with the back of the handset kept 0mm from the body. To maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements, use accessories that maintain a 0mm separation distance between the user's body and the back of the handset. The use of belt clips, holsters and similar accessories should not contain metallic components in its assembly.
