Do not put anything in the safety slot. If you do, the laser diode will be ON when the CD door is still open. If the unit is not to be used for a long period of time, make sure that all power sources are disconnected from the unit. Remove all batteries from the battery compartment. This unit employs a laser. The use of controls or adjustment or performance of procedures other than those specified here may result in exposure to hazardous radiation. Should any trouble occur, remove the power source and refer servicing to qualified personnel. COMPLIANCE WITH FCC REGULATIONS This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B Digital Device, pursuant to Part 15 of the CE Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. (Tape/Radio ) 15. Band Selector BATTERY OPERATION To use the appliance with batteries ensure that AC power cord is not insert into the back of the appliance and install the batteries into the batteries (not supplied) in the battery compartment. To install the battery, 3.1 Slide off the battery compartment cover from the underside of the unit. 3.2 Insert 4 x D/UM-1 1.5 heavy-duty alkaline battery in accordance with the diagram in the battery compartment. Take care to observe the correct polarity (+/ -). 3.3 Refit the battery compartment cover. 3.4 Do not expose the batteries or the installed batteries to excessive heat (e.g. fire, sunshine or position close to radiators etc.). E-4 Note Dispose of used batteries responsibly at local authority household waste recycling facility. DO NOT dispose of batteries in a fire as the batteries may explode. Only use D UM-1 batteries in this appliance. Be sure to insert correctly taking care to observe the correct polarity (+ and -). Use only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended. Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries. Never mix old and new batteries (replace all batteries at the same time). Never try to dismantle batteries. Do not short-circuit the supply terminals. Always remove exhausted or dead batteries from the product, do not dispose of in fire. Remove batteries from the product before extended storage. 4. MAINS OPERATION Fit the AC cord into the rear of the appliance and plug into the household socket. 5. USING THE RADIO Check your batteries regularly. Old or discharged batteries should be replaced. If the unit is not to be used for sometime or is being run exclusively on AC electrical current, remove batteries from the battery compartment to avoid leakage. 5.1 Slide the FUNCTION SELECTOR to the RADIO position. 5.2 Select the waveband by sliding the BAND switch to the desired waveband (AM or FM). 5.3 Turn the TUNING knob to select the station of choice. The radio frequency scale will show the wavelength selected. 5.4 Adjust the volume to the desired level by rotating the VOLUME control knob. 5.5 To turn off the radio, slide the FUNCTION SELECTOR to TAPE W ITH ALL KEYS RELEASED. Note Antennas - Extend the Telescopic Antenna for optimum reception on FM. Your radio is equipped with a built-

in ferrite antenna for AM. This built-in antenna is directional so reception form distant stations may be improved by rotating the unit. CASSETTE OPERATION Installation of Cassette 6. 6.1 6.2 Open the cassette cover by pressing the STOP/EJECT BUTTON. Insert the cassette tape, bottom side up with the tape facing you. Close the cover, now the unit is ready for operation. 6.3 ALC (Automatic level control) Recording This unit has an ALC circuit. The recording level is preset. Change the volume control while recording will not affect the recording level. 6.4 Pause Depress PAUSE BUTTON for momentarily stopping the tape travel during recoding or playback. To start the press the pause button a second time. 6.5 Automatic Stop (Auto Stop) When the cassette being played or recorded on reaches the end of the tape, the unit will shut off. 6.6 Fast Forwarding and Rewind 6.7 For fast forwarding or rewinding the tape, press the FFW D or REW IND BUTTON. Press the STOP/EJECT BUTTON to stop the moving tape at the desired location. 6.8 Play Back

(1) Install a recoded Cassette.

(2) Set the FUNCTION SELECTOR to TAPE.

(3) Press the PLAY BUTTON.

(4) Adjust the VOLUME CONTROL to the desired sound level. 6.9 Recording Install a cassette as described before Press RECORD BUTTON. To record from the Radio, slide the function selector to the radio position. To record using the built-in Condenser Mic, slide the function selector to the tape position. E-5 7. Using Headphones (not included) A stereo headphone jack has been provided so that the set can be used without disturbing others. Plug in the headphones at the point marked PHONE (17). Turn the listing volume to the lowest setting before adjusting the volume up to your chosen level. Excessive sound pressure form earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. The speaker will not operate when headphones are fitted. 8. Cleaning Clean the cabinet with a soft cloth moistened with water or mild detergent. Do not use solvents such as alcohol, benzene or thinner, as they may damage the cabinet finish. Make sure to disconnect the mains lead from the supply before cleaning. 9. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE Warning: Under no circumstances should you try to repair the set your self, as this would invalidate the guarantee.
