Important Safety and Product Information WARNING Failure to avoid the following potentially hazardous situations could result in an accident or collision resulting in death or serious injury. Installation Warnings When installing the device in a vehicle, place the device securely so it does not obstruct the drivers view of the road or interfere with vehicle operating controls, such as the steering wheel, foot pedals, or transmission levers. Do not place unsecured on the vehicle dashboard . Do not place the device in front of or above any airbag . The windshield mount may not stay attached to the windshield in all circumstances. Do not place the mount where it will become a distraction if it should become detached. Keep your windshield clean to help ensure that the mount stays on the windshield. Off-Road Navigation Warnings Some Garmin recreational products are able to suggest off-road routes for various outdoor activities, such as biking, hiking, and all-terrain vehicles. Follow these guidelines to ensure safe off-road navigation. Always use your best judgment and exercise common sense when making off-road navigational decisions. The Garmin device is designed to provide route suggestions only. It is not a replacement for attentiveness and proper preparation for outdoor activities. Do not follow the route suggestions if they suggest an illegal course or would put you in an unsafe situation. Always carefully compare information displayed on the device to all available navigation sources, including trail signs, trail conditions, weather conditions, and other factors that may affect safety while navigating. For safety, always resolve any discrepancies before continuing navigation, and defer to posted signs and conditions. Always be mindful of the effects of the environment and the inherent risks of the activity before embarking on off-road activities, especially the impact that weather and weather-
related trail conditions can have on the safety of your activity. Ensure that you have the proper gear and supplies for your activity before navigating along unfamiliar paths and trails. Street Navigation Warnings Some Garmin recreational products are able to accept street maps and suggest routes that follow roads. Follow these guidelines to ensure safe on-road navigation. Always use your best judgment, and operate the vehicle in a safe manner. Do not become distracted by the device while driving, and always be fully aware of all driving conditions. Minimize the amount of time spent viewing the device screen while driving. Do not input destinations, change settings, or access any functions requiring prolonged use of the device controls while driving. Pull over in a safe and legal manner before attempting such operations. When navigating, carefully compare information displayed on the device to all available navigation sources, including road signs, road closures, road conditions, traffic congestion, weather conditions, and other factors that may affect safety while driving. For safety, always resolve any discrepancies before continuing navigation, and defer to posted signs and conditions. The device is designed to provide route suggestions. It is not a replacement for driver attentiveness and good judgement. Do not follow route suggestions if they suggest an illegal maneuver or would place the vehicle in an unsafe situation. Battery Warnings Your GPS device uses user-replaceable batteries. If these guidelines are not followed, the batteries may experience a shortened life span or may present a risk of damage to the device, fire, chemical burn, electrolyte leak, and/or bodily injury. Do not leave the device exposed to a heat source or in a high-temperature location, such as in the sun in an unattended vehicle. To prevent damage, remove the device from the vehicle or store it out of direct sunlight, such as in the glove box. Do not disassemble, puncture, or damage the batteries. Only replace the battery with the correct replacement battery. Using another battery presents a risk of fire or explosion. Replaceable coin cell batteries may contain perchlorate material. Special handling may apply. See www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/perchlorate. Contact your local waste disposal department to dispose of the device/battery in accordance with applicable local laws and regulations. In addition, the GPS device may use an internal, non-user-
replaceable battery for various purposes, such as the real-time clock. Do not remove or attempt to remove the non-user-
replaceable battery. Pacemakers and Other Medical Devices Studies have shown that there may be a potential interaction between mobile devices and normal pacemaker operation. The pacemaker industry recommends that people with pacemakers follow these guidelines to minimize any risk of interference with pacemaker operation:
Always maintain a distance of 6 inches (15 cm) between the pacemaker and any mobile device that is turned on. Store the device on the opposite side of the pacemaker. Do not carry the device in a breast pocket. Use the ear furthest from the pacemaker in order to minimize any potential for interference. If you think that interference may be occurring, turn off the device immediately. For other medical devices, consult with your physician or the manufacturer to determine if your mobile device may interfere with the medical device, and to determine any precautions that you can take to avoid interference. Map Data Information Garmin uses a combination of governmental and private data sources. Virtually all data sources contain some inaccurate or incomplete data. In some countries, complete and accurate map information is either not available or is prohibitively expensive. FCC Compliance This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. FCC Licensing Information The Rino two-way radio operates on General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. Operation on the GMRS frequencies is subject to additional rules as specified in 47 CFR Part 95. In order to transmit on GMRS frequencies, you are required to obtain a license from the FCC. An individual 18 years of age or older, who is not a representative of a foreign government, is eligible to apply for a GMRS license. Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification. To obtain warranty service, an original or copy of the sales receipt from the original retailer is required. Garmin will not replace missing components from any package purchased through an online auction. International Purchases: A separate warranty may be provided by international distributors for devices purchased outside the United States depending on the country. If applicable, this warranty is provided by the local in-country distributor and this distributor provides local service for your device. Distributor warranties are only valid in the area of intended distribution. Rangez lappareil du ct oppos au stimulateur cardiaque. Ne transportez pas lappareil dans une poche de poitrine. Placez lappareil sur loreille du ct oppos au stimulateur cardiaque afin de rduire tout risque ventuel dinterfrence. Si vous avez des raisons de penser quune interfrence est susceptible de se produire, teignez immdiatement lappareil. Manual Conventions All the pages are found on the home screen. Use to scroll through the pages. The small arrows (>) used in the text indicate that you should select a series of items in order, for example, Select Delete > Yes. or Installing the Lithium-ion Battery note: The lithium-ion battery pack can be used only with the Rino 650 and 655t. 1. Locate the battery pack that came in the product box. Battery Information The device operates on the included lithium-ion battery pack or four AA batteries. For tips on maximizing battery life and other battery information, see page 39. 2. Align the metal contacts on the battery pack with the metal contacts on the back of the device. 3. Gently press the battery pack into place. 4. Turn the D-ring clockwise. 4 Rino 600 Series Owners Manual Charging the Lithium-ion Battery Before you use the device the first time, charge the battery. Charging a fully depleted battery takes 6 hours. The device will not charge when outside the temperature range from -4F to 140F (from -20C to 60C). 1. Plug the AC charger into a standard wall outlet. 2. Lift weather cap. 3. Plug the small end of the AC charger into the two-pin connector
. Getting Started 4. Charge the device completely. A fully charged battery can run for up to 14 hours before it must be recharged. Installing aa Batteries Instead of the lithium-ion battery pack, you can use alkaline, NiMH, or lithium batteries. This is especially handy when you are on the trail and cannot charge the lithium-ion battery pack. Use NiMH or lithium batteries for best results. 1. Insert four AA batteries, observing polarity. 4. Replace the battery cover, and turn the D-ring clockwise. 5. Update the battery type in the system settings (page 39). acquiring Satellite Signals It may take 30 to 60 seconds to acquire signals. 1. Go outdoors to an open area. 2. Turn on the device. 6 3. Wait while the device searches for satellites. A question mark flashes while the device determines your location. The GPS bars indicate satellite strength. When the bars are green, the device has acquired satellite signals. Registering Your Device Go to http://my.garmin.com. Keep the original sales receipt, or a photocopy, in a safe place. Turning On the Backlight The backlight will turn off after a period of inactivity. To change the backlight timeout, see page 28. Select Touch the screen. For example, the highest backlight setting while running on AA batteries is lower than the highest while running on the lithium-ion battery. This is to extend the AA battery life. 1. (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radio operations. about the Radio The Rino has a total of 30 channels and 121 squelch codes. Channel 1-7 Frequency GMRS and FRS channels

(page 9). 8-14 15-22 15R-22R GMRS frequencies are regulated by the FCC. In order to transmit on GMRS frequencies, you must obtain a license from the FCC (page 52). NOTE: Channels 5 and 35 are reserved as emergency channels. Channels 22 and 23 are reserved for telemetry and telecommand. GPS position data is transmitted on these channels. Voice transmission on channels 5 and 35 is limited to emergency information and on channels 22 and 23 it is inhibited. Muting the Radio 1. Select 2. Select Volume. Choosing a Channel 1. Select Mark Waypoint. Finding a Waypoint 1. Select Where to? > Waypoints. 2. Select a waypoint. Editing a Waypoint Before you can edit a waypoint, you must create a waypoint. 1. You can share waypoints, geocaches, routes, and tracks. Sending and Receiving Data Wirelessly Before you can share data wirelessly, you must be within 10 feet (3 m) of the compatible Garmin device. 1. Select Share Wirelessly. 2. Select transmit over Ant. 3. Select Send or Receive. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions. Tracks A track is a recording of your path. The track log contains information about points along the recorded path, including time, location, and elevation for each point. Managing Track Log Recording 1. Select Setup > tracks > track Log. 2. Select Record, Do not Show or Record, Show on Map. If you select Record, Show on Map, a line on the map indicates your track. 3. Select Record Method. 4. Select an option:
To record tracks at a variable rate that creates an optimum representation of your tracks, select Auto. To record tracks at a specified distance, select Distance. The course line to your destination is based on your original starting point. 20 As you drift from the intended course to the destination, the course deviation indicator (CDI) provides the indication of drift (right or left) from the course. The scale refers to the distance between dots on the course deviation indicator.
