Power Cord Set Requirements The power cord set (appliance coupler, flexible cord, and wall plug) you received with the computer meets the requirements for use in the country where you purchased the equipment. Power cord sets for use in other counties must meet the requirements of the country where you use the computer. For more information on power cord set requirement, contact the local authorized dealer, reseller, or service provider. About the AC Adapter The AC adapter serves as a converter from AC (Alternating Current) to DC (Direct Current) power because the V310 System runs on DC power, but an electrical outlet usually provides AC power. The AC adapter is Auto-sensing so that the V310 System can operate through the AC adapter connected to any available power supply in a wall outlet. The AC adapter is also used to recharge the rechargeable battery pack when connected to AC power. The AC adapter operates on any voltage in the range of 100 ~ 240V AC. 1. 2. 3. People not only care the performance of the computer, but also the stylish appearance and portabilities. The V310 System is the evolution of today's laptops, extending their capabilities with the addition of pen input, handwriting and speech technologies. With these new capabilities, the V310 System will be the user's primary PC, performing additional tasks such as taking notes, annotating documents and reading information online. The space saving design makes installation possible even in the most crowded home or office. The V310 System is equipped with one RJ11 port, supporting 56kbps internal modem;

This V310 is an astounding mobile computing device with a range of input and communication options. Please read this Instructions Manual carefully before unpacking and setting up the V310. Users can use this Instructions Manual as a comprehensive library for the V310 System. Please refer to this Instructions Manual first if users encounter any problems. Please keep this Instructions Manual on hand and enjoy your time. 2 CHAPTER 1 - Before Using Your V310 Installation Restrictions Please read the following general guidelines carefully before assembly or disassembly the V310 System. 1. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product. 2. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 3. Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The product may fall, causing serious damage to it. 4. Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type) during an electrical storm. There may be remote risk of electric shock from lightning. 5. Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for ventilation; to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered. The product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register, or in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided. 6. This product should be operated from the type of power indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power available, consult your dealer or local power company. 7. Do not allow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not locate this product where persons will tread on the cord. 8. If an extension cord is used with this product, make sure that the total ampere rating of the equipment plugged into the extension cord does not exceed the extension cord ampere rating. Also, make sure that the total rating of all products plugged into the wall outlet does not exceed the fuse rating. 9. Never push objects of any kind into this product through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could resulting a fire or electronic shocks. Always disconnect all telephone lines & all power cords from the wall outlet before servicing or disassembling this product. And, refer it for servicing to qualified service personal under the following conditions:
a. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. b. If liquid has been spilled into the product. c. If the product has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the product does not operate normally when the operating instructions are followed. Routine Care To keep the V310 System working properly, please follow these guidelines:
Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the V310 System. Do not place anything on top of the device at any time to prevent screen damage. Avoid using or storing in places where static electricity or electrical noise is likely to occur. Avoid using or storing in places where there are sudden temperature variations or condensation, or in direct sunlight. Keep the device away from excessive moisture and temperature extremes. Do not expose the device to liquids or precipitation. Operate the device with the main battery pack installed, even when using external power. This ensures system will have the necessary power to operate when disconnected from external power. Store the device in its docking station when not in use. Battery Care Do not heat or attempt to disassemble a battery, and do not place a battery in water or in a fire. Do not subject batteries to strong impacts, such as hitting them with a hammer, stepping on them or dropping them. Do not drop, puncture or disassemble batteries. Do not attempt to open or service the battery pack. Replace only with the battery pack designed for this product. 5 V310 Instructions Manual AC adapter Care Always be sure to use the AC adapter which comes with this product, or optional from the manufacturer. Any other adapter may cause damage to the V310 System, which is not covered under the warranty. Grasp the adapter, not the cord, when unplugging the adapter from a wall socket. If the power cord becomes damaged (exposed or severed wires, etc.), please purchase a new AC adapter. Use of a damaged cord may cause fire or electrical shock. Power off and disconnect The V310 System from the AC adapter before unplugging it from the wall socket. TFT LCD Display Care Do not spray liquid directly on the screen or allow excess liquid to drip down inside the device. Do not place anything on the screen at any time to prevent screen damage, for example, drink or food. Do not scratch the surface of the screen with any hard objects. Keep the device away from direct sunlight or strong ultraviolet light for extended periods of time. To clean the device, wipe the screen and the exterior with a soft, damp cloth moistened only with water. Provide a steady, level and clean surface, near an electrical wall outlet. When opening the box of the computer, make sure not to damage the box, as you may need to keep it and all packing material for future shipping needs. Unpacking the box, make sure the following components are included in the box and are in good condition. Wi-Fi 802.11b WLAN Module 8 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started Preparing the Power Supply The V310 System features a two-way power supply that lets you use either battery or a household AC current. Using the Battery The V310 System uses a removable and rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery pack. The V310 System supports charge-in-use and enables users to recharge the battery pack while they keep on operating the V310 System. The battery pack is recharged whenever users connect the V310 System to the mains power supply. We recommend you should have an extra fully charged battery pack available as backup. You can contact the authenticated dealer for purchasing a spare battery pack. It's not necessary to replace a new battery pack unless it is damaged or has run out. To remove and install the battery pack, perform the following steps:
Turn off the V310 System. Pull the latch upward gently (no more than 90 degrees). Part of the battery pack will be will be partially released as shown in [Figure 1]
and [Figure 2]. Figure 1 NOTE:

Figure 3 To install a new battery pack, put the end with four small white clips of the new or full charged battery pack into the battery compartment first. Push the other end into the battery compartment gently until the battery pack locks in place as shown in [Figure 4], [Figure 5] and
[Figure 6]. 10 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started Figure 4 Figure 5 Figure 6 11 V310 Instructions Manual Using the AC adapter If you prefer to operate the V310 System on AC power, use the AC adapter that comes with this product. Simply connect the power adapter into the DC-in jack on the V310 System, and then plug the power adapter to a wall socket as shown in [Figure 7] and [Figure 8]. Figure 7 Figure 8 The DC-in jack connects the AC adapter provided to recharge the battery. The AC adapter can be used if the battery is low or while the V310 System is positioned in its docking station. 12 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started Using the Battery Pen Correctly 1. To interact with the V310 System, we offer a unique input tool, a Battery Pen, that users can use it in place of a mouse or a standard keyboard. Instead of using a mouse, users can use the Battery Pen to interact with items on the screen. The Battery Pen moves the cursor without even touching the LCD screen. Users can move, open, change, delete items, and more. 2. The pen tip (1) is equipped with pressure sensitive option that allows for great writing experiences. Tapping the button (2) on Battery Pen emulates "right clicking" with a mouse. See [Figure 9]. Figure 9 3. The battery pen has a built-in power saving function, if no operation more than three minutes, the power saving will be enabled automatically and then the battery pen will enter the sleep mode. To resume the battery pen function, use the battery pen and double-tap on the LCD screen. Using the pen instead of a mouse Users can use the battery pen to do many things they are used to do with mouse. That includes the pointer on the screen, clicking the left mouse, and clicking the right mouse. Use single-tap anywhere you would normally single-click with the mouse. Where you would double-click using the mouse, you now double-tap with the battery pen. 13 V310 Instructions Manual There are four basic actions that you can perform with your battery pen. Pen actions correspond to mouse actions as follows:
Battery pen Action Mouse Action Point Tap Point Click Double-tap Double-click Press and hold Right-click Drag Drag Using the bettery pen in the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition For the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, if you want to use the bettery pen to bring up the pop up menu of one icon, please tap and hold the selected icon for three seconds; a mouse icon will appears near by the selected icon and then the pop up menu will appear. Using the bettery pen in the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition For the Windows XP Home/Professional Edition, if you want to use the bettery pen to bring up the pop up menu of one icon, aim at the selected icon without tapping the LCD screen, and press the button on the battery pen, then the pop up menu will appear. Right-click equivalents You can use your battery pen to use features that you would normally access with a right mouse button, such as shortcut menus. There is a button on your battery pen as a right-click equivalent. Or, you can use another one battery pen action called "press and hold". 14 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started 1. Using battery pen button as a right-click equivalent You can use the battery pen button to display shortcut menus or access other program-specific right-click features. To use the battery pen button for right-click, press the battery pen button and hold it as you tap the screen of the V310 System, and then release the battery pen button. To right-drag an item, press the battery pen button, hold it as you drag the item to the location of your choice, and then release the choice. 2. Using press and hold for right-click You can also use a tablet pen action called "press and hold" to perform right-click equivalents. To use press and hold as a right-click equivalent, press the tip of the tablet pen into the screen, hold it down until the mouse icon appears, and then lift the tablet pen. The pop-up menu appears and then you may tap your choice now. Tips for using the battery pen Hold the battery pen in the same way that you hold a pen or pencil when writing on paper. Rest the palm of your hand on the screen and hold the battery pen near the tip when you tap or perform other actions. To tap successfully, tap and lift your pen quickly off the screen. Avoid pushing items with your pen. When tapping, watch the pointer as it moves on the screen, not the tip of the battery pen. This will help you more accurately tap what you're aiming at on the screen. To get the best reaction with the LCD screen while using the battery pen, please tap the selected item vertically on the screen. 15 V310 Instructions Manual Changing a Battery for the Battery Pen If the battery pen runs out of power, you have to replace a new battery for it. Following the steps to replace a new battery:
1. Rotate the battery pen and gently pull the battery cover off as shown in [Figure 10]. Figure 10 2. Replace a new battery and rotate the pen as the direction (1) and (2) to lock the battery cover as shown in [Figure 11] and [Figure 12]. Figure 11 Figure 12 16 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started Removing and Replacing the Pen Tip Following the steps to replace a new pen tip:
1. Find the two pen tips and pen tip clip bundled with the product. Figure 13 2. Use the pen tip clip to clip the tip firmly and then remove the tip from the pen as shown in [Figure 14], [Figure 15] and [Figure 16]. Figure 14 Figure 15 17 V310 Instructions Manual Figure 16 3. Insert a new tip into the tip hole gently till the tip reaches the position as shown in [Figure 17] and [Figure 18]. Figure 17 Figure 18 18 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started The USB Tablet Manager If the tip of the battery pen does not accurately point at items on the screen, please go to process the calibration to improve the reaction. The USB Tablet Manager is an important tool help users to use the battery pen better. Launch the USB Tablet Manager 1. Tap the USB Tablet Manager icon on the toolbar. 2. The USB Tablet Manager dialog box will appear as shown below. Setup the slide button action:
User can define one action for the slide button of the battery by select one option from the Slide Button 1 drop-down list. Middle click Right double click Right click 19 V310 Instructions Manual Calibrating the Battery Pen 1. Unselect the Auto Setting check box, and then tap the Adjust button. The Adjust Pen Offset Value dialog box will appear as shown below. 2. Tap OK to complete. 3. Select the Auto Setting check box again, and then tap the Default button. 20 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started 4. Tap the Test button to bring up the Click Pressure Test dialog box. Press side button 1 to clear and double-tap to exit. 5. Tap the Calibration button on the About tab. A crosshair will appear at the corner of the screen. Tap on the center of each crosshair accordingly. 6. Now, the pen calibration is completed. 21 V310 Instructions Manual Calibrating the Battery Pen in the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition For the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, pelase use the "Tablet and Pen Settings" to calibrate the battery pen and adjust the settings of the pen and the screen orientation (lanndcape or portrait). To launch the "Tablet and Pen Settings", double tap the Tablet and Pen Settings icon on the Control Panel and then brings up the Tablet and Pen Settings dialog box. Settings Tab 22 CHAPTER 2 - Getting Started 1. Under Calibration, tap the Calibrate, the following screen appears. 2. There will be crosshair appearing at the four corners of the screen. Tap on the center of the each crosshair accordingly. 3. After finished the calibration, tap OK to exit. Using the Software Keyboard Besides using the external keyboard for typing data, using the battery pen to typing data through the software keyboard will be another good choice. Howerver, according the operating systems you use, the software keyboard will be different. The V310 System is equipped with a digital still camera with 0.3 Mega Pixel. Users can rotate lens around to focus on the objects users want. 4. Battery Pen:
A Battery Pen included with the V310 System is used to activate the touch screen surface. This Battery Pen comes in slim size, and there is a button on it to emulate the right button of the mouse. Users can remove this Battery Pen from its slot on the edge of the LCD display as shown in [Figure 40] below. Please do not use anything other than the tip of the Battery Pen to interact with the display or users may damage the display surface. To remove the Battery Pen from the V310 unit:

Press the Fn and SAS buttons simultaneously can switch display output between the display screen, external monitor (if connected) or both the display screen and external monitor. 6. SAS button:
This button is used to emulate the CTRL+ALT+DEL combination key, which brings the Windows Task Manager dialog box to monitor the performance of computer or close some tasks. User cant configure this button since this button is set. 7. WLAN enable/stop button:
Press this button to enable the WALN function and press it again to stop. 8. Snapshot button:
Press the snapshot button to take a picture. 9. Battery Pen holder:

In addition to still images, users can record short videos using the video recording function. This camera can also serve as a PC camera, which allows users to videoconference with the co-workers, friends, and family face to face. With the PC camera, users will live a whole new camera experience and make photo shooting more interesting and fun. Here below we will guide users through the whole picture taking process, please enjoy your time. Cautions:
Dont splash water or drinks on the lens. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use only a soft cloth for cleaning. Do not place anything on the digital camera; this may cause the internal failure of the digital camera. Rotating the camera With the improved camera position design, the photography angle will be wider and it also provides more flexibility for using the camera. Figure 55 1. Capture Device: This area will show the information and status of the captured video device (the camera). To record a video with audio, please check the Record Audio box. If the camera is not installed properly, a warning message as following will appear after you launched the QCap program. 51 V310 Instructions Manual And in the Capture Device status area, there will not be any capture device name will be shown. 2. Capture Directory: Selecting one folder to save the captured photos and videos in.
Path: Tap the Path button and select the captured files saved folder in the Set Path dialog box.
Last Captured File: The filename of the last captured photo/video will be listed here.
Auto Filename Increment: If you unselected this check box, the new captured file will use the same filename as the previous one and overwrite it. On the contrary, if you selected this check box, filename will be named sequentially, e.g., QCap000.bmp, QCap001.bmp and so on. the
Reset counter: Tap this button to reset the saved filename counter and start with QCap000 as the first filename. 52 CHAPTER 4 Using the PC Camera 3. Preview Screen: Like the LCD monitor of the digital camera, you can see the subject you frame in this preview screen. 4. Captured Photo/Video: The last captured photo or video will be shown in this screen until you captured another new photo or video. 5. Toolbar: This consists of buttons and allows quick access to frequently used commands. Toolbar The toolbar allows quick access to frequently used commands. Just tap one to execute the command. Snapshot Photo: Tap this button to capture a still picture. View Photo: Tap this button to view all captured photos and videos saved in the working directory you use Capture Directory -> Path commands to assign. Capture Video/Stop Capturing: Tap this button to start ands stop recording a video. Camera Setting: Tap this button to bring up the Properties dialog box for camera settings. Video Format: Tap this button to bring up the Properties dialog box for video format settings. 53 V310 Instructions Manual Camera Setting > Properties dialog box Tap the Camera Setting to bring up the Properties dialog box for capturing still image settings. Video Proc Amp Tab The video proc amp control enables adjustment of images, such as brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, sharpness, and white balance. Users can get a better image resolution when they are capturing an image or holding a videoconference. Move the slider leftward/rightwards to adjust the proper values. All the recorded images and videos will be saved in this directory. You can select the desired working directory by using the Capture Directory >
Path command in the main screen, e.g., My Documents\My Picture. By default, the captured still images will be named as QCap000.bmp, QCap001.bmp, QCap002.bmpand the recorded videos will be named as QCap000.avi, QCap001.avi, QCap002.avi and so on. 57 V310 Instructions Manual Taking a Still Picture Start taking a still picture To record a still picture, perform the following:
1. Launch the QCap program. 2. Rotate the lens to compose the image. The object will display on the Preview Screen. 3. After composing the object, press the Snap button, located on the top of the V310 System, to take a picture. Or use the battery pen to tap the Snap Photo button on the program. Review the captured pictures Users can review the captured photos by tapping the View Photo button to bring up the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer for browsing all captured photos. 1. Launch the MSN Messenger and sign in. 2. Click one contact ID form your contact list. 3. Tap the Webcam icon on the toolbar. 4. The person you are calling must have installed a Webcam and also accept your call to start the videoconference. Using with Microsoft Netmeeting To using it with Microsoft Netmeeting, perform the following:
1. Launch Microsoft Netmeeting. 2. Tap Play button to view live video. 3. Tap Call button. 4. Type the e-mail address or computer name or the network address of the computer that you are calling. 5. Tap Call. 6. The person you are calling must have Microsoft Netmeeting running and also accept your call to start the videoconference. V310 Instructions Manual Question: The V310 System doesn't turn on when not connected to AC power Solution: The power may be too low to run the V310 System, the Power LED Indicator starts blinking. Turn off V310 system to replace a fresh battery or connect to AC power. Question: Auto power off Solution: Power is too low or run out. Use the Battery Pen to tap on the screen to see if the display activates. You can replace a fresh battery or plug the AC adapter in to charge the V310 System. Question: The V310 system doesn't turn on or the LCD display appears to be off, even though the power is on. Solution: The display brightness are too low. Use the Fn + Up button to increase the LCD brightness.
The V310 System is in Sleep mode. Use the Battery Pen to tap on the screen to see if the display activates.
The V310 System has run out of power. Plug the AC adapter in to charge V310 System. Question: Screen is blank Solution: Adjust the LCD display brightness by using the Fn +
Up/Down button. The screen can be darkened or lightened until the V310 System appears to be powered off.
Restart the V310 System.
Plug the AC adapter in to charge V310 System. Question: Screen is dark Solution: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the V310 Systems LCD screen to temporarily darken. This is normal for LCD display and is not permanent. Question: Display is difficult to see in sunlight or in dark rooms Solution: Use the Fn + Up/Down button to adjust the LCD brightness for optimal viewing. Question: How to bring the system in the Sleep mode?
Solution: Press Fn + F4 combination keys on the keyboard simultaneously will bring the system in the Sleep mode. 70
