Getting Started 1 G e t t i n g S t a r t e d 14 Connections to Your TV HDMI Out connection If you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connect it to this unit using a HDMI cable (Type A, High Speed HDMI Cable). Connect the HDMI OUT jack on the unit to the HDMI IN jack on a HDMI compatible TV or monitor. Set the TVs source to HDMI (refer to TVs Owners manual).
> Caution y Changing the resolution when the connection has already been established may result in malfunctions. To solve the problem, turn off the unit and then turn it on again. y When the HDMI connection with HDCP is not verified, TV screen is changed to black or green screen or the snow noise may occur on the screen. In this case, check the HDMI connection, or disconnect the HDMI cable. y Make sure the unit is connected directly to the TV. Tune the TV to the correct video input channel. Unit TV
, Note y You can fully enjoy digital audio and video signals together with this HDMI connection. y When you use HDMI connection, you can change the resolution for the HDMI output.

, Note y If a connected HDMI device does not accept the audio output of the unit, the HDMI devices audio sound may be distorted or may not output. y When you connect a HDMI or DVI compatible device make sure of the following:
- Try switching off the HDMI/DVI device and this unit. Next, switch on the HDMI/DVI device and leave it for around 30 seconds, then switch on this unit.
- The connected devices video input is set correctly for this unit.
- The connected device is compatible with 720 x 480i (or 576i), 720 x 480p (or 576p), 1280 x 720p, 1920 x 1080i or 1920 x 1080p video input. y Not all HDCP-compatible HDMI or DVI devices will work with this unit.
- The picture will not be displayed properly with non-HDCP device.
- This unit does not playback and TV screen is changed to black or green screen or the snow noise may occur on the screen. y If there is noise or lines on the screen, please check the HDMI cable and use a higher version cable than High Speed HDMI Cable. y The HDMI sounds output only DVD.CD function. 15 Resolution Setting The unit provides several output resolutions for HDMI. You can change the resolution using [Setup] menu. 1. Press ! on the remote control. 2. Use W/S/A/D on the remote control to select the [Setup] and press m on the remote control. Connecting 2 C o n n e c t i n g 16 Optional Equipment Connection AUX IN Connection Connect an output of auxiliary device (Camcorder, TV, Player, etc) to the AUX IN (L/R) connector. If your device has only one output for audio (mono), connect it to the left audio jack on the unit. Listening to music from your external device The unit can be used to play the music from many types of external device. 1. Connect the external device to the AUX IN (L/R) connector of the unit. 2. Turn the power on by pressing 1. 3. Press F to select AUX. 4. Turn on the external device and start it playing. Connecting 2 C o n n e c t i n g 18 Adjust the setup settings By using the Setup menu, you can make various adjustments to items such as picture and sound. You can also set a language for the subtitles and the Setup menu, among other things. For details on each Setup menu item, see pages 18 to 21. OSD Initial language settings -

Automatically displays the wide picture on the entire screen and cuts off the portions that do not fit. (If the disc/file is not compatible with Pan Scan, the picture is displayed at Letterbox ratio.) Resolution Sets the output resolution of HDMI video signal. Refer to Resolution Setting for details about the resolution (page 15). If the HDMI jack is connected to TVs providing display information (EDID), automatically selects the resolution best suited to the connected TV. Outputs 1080 lines of progressive video. System Setting 3 S y s t e m S e t t i n g 20 Audio DRC (Dynamic Range Control) Make the sound clear when the volume is turned down and prevent a sudden sound increase (Dolby Digital only). Set to [On] for this effect. HD AV Sync Sometimes Digital TV encounters a delay between picture and sound. If this happens you can compensate by setting a delay on the sound so that it effectively waits for the picture to arrive: this is called HD AV Sync. Use W/S on the remote control to scroll up and down through the delay amount, which you can set at anything between 0 and 300ms. System Setting S y s t e m S e t t i n g Lock (Parental Control) Initial Setting the Area Code When you use this unit for the first time, you have to set the Area Code. 1. Select the [Lock] menu and then press D on the remote control. 2. Press D on the remote control. To access the [Lock] options, you must input the password you have created. Input a password and press m on the remote control. Enter it again and press mon the remote control to verify. If you make a mistake before pressing mon the remote control, press CLEAR on the remote control. 3. Select the first character using W/Son the remote control. 4. Press mon the remote control and select the second character using W/Son the remote control. 5. Press mon the remote control to confirm your Area code selection. Rating Blocks playback of rated DVDs based on their contents. Not all discs are rated. 1. Select [Rating] on the [Lock] menu then press D on the remote control. 2. Input a password and press m on the remote control. 3. Select a rating from 1 to 8 using the W/Son the remote control.

Rating one (1) has the most restrictions and rating eight (8) is the least restrictive.

If you select unlock, parental control is not active and the disc plays in full. 4. Press m on the remote control to confirm your rating selection. 21 Password You can enter or change password. 1. Select [Password] on the [Lock] menu and then press Don the remote control. 2. Press mon the remote control. 3. Input a password and press mon the remote control. To change the password, press mon the remote control when the [Change] option is highlighted. Input a password and press mon the remote control. Enter it again and press mon the remote control to verify. 4. Press ! on the remote control to exit the menu.
, Note If you forget your password, you can clear it using the following steps:
1. Select the [Setup] menu on the
[Home Menu]. 2. Input the 6-digit number 210499 and pressmon the remote control. The password is cleared. Area Code Enter the code of the area whose standards were used to rate the DVD video disc, based on the list on page 38. 1. Storing Discs After playing, store the disc in its case. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or sources of heat and never leave it in a parked car exposed to direct sunlight. Cleaning Discs Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause poor picture quality and sound distortion. Before playing, clean the disc with a clean cloth. Wipe the disc from the center to out.
