This document can help you quickly understand module interface specifications, electrical and mechanical details as well as other related information of SC20 module. Associated with application notes and user guide, you can use SC20 module to design and set up mobile applications easily. FCC Certification Requirements. According to the definition of mobile and fixed device is described in Part 2.1091(b), this device is a mobile device. And the following conditions must be met:
1. This Modular Approval is limited to OEM installation for mobile and fixed applications only. The antenna installation and operating configurations of this transmitter, including any applicable source-based timeaveraging duty factor, antenna gain and cable loss must satisfy MPE categorical Exclusion Requirements of 2.1091. 2. The EUT is a mobile device; maintain at least a 20 cm separation between the EUT and the users body and must not transmit simultaneously with any other antenna or transmitter. 3. A label with the following statements must be attached to the host end product: This device contains FCC ID: XMR2021SC20AD 4. To comply with FCC regulations limiting both maximum RF output power and human exposure to RF radiation, maximum antenna gain (including cable loss) must not exceed:

The host end product must include a user manual that clearly defines operating requirements and conditions that must be observed to ensure compliance with current FCC RF exposure guidelines. For portable devices, in addition to the conditions 3 through 6 described above, a separate approval is required to satisfy the SAR requirements of FCC Part 2.1093 If the device is used for other equipment that separate approval is required for all other operating configurations, including portable configurations with respect to 2.1093 and different antenna configurations. A certified modular has the option to use a permanently affixed label, or an electronic label. For a permanently affixed label, the module must be labeled with an FCC ID - Section 2.926 (see 2.2 Certification (labeling requirements) above). The OEM manual must provide clear instructions explaining to the OEM the labeling requirements, options and OEM user manual instructions that are required (see next paragraph). For a host using a certified modular with a standard fixed label, if (1) the modules FCC ID is not visible when installed in the host, or (2) if the host is marketed so that end users do not have straightforward commonly used methods for access to remove the module so that the FCC ID of the module is visible; then an additional permanent label referring to the enclosed module: Contains Transmitter Module FCC ID: XMR2021SC20AD or Contains FCC ID: XMR2021SC20AD must be used. The host OEM user manual must also contain clear instructions on how end users can find and/or access the module and the FCC ID. The final host / module combination may also need to be evaluated against the FCC Part 15B criteria for unintentional radiators in order to be properly authorized for operation as a Part 15 digital device. The users manual or instruction manual for an intentional or unintentional radiator shall caution the user that changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. In cases where the manual is provided only in a form other than paper, such as on a computer disk or over the Internet, the information required by this section may be included in the manual in that alternative form, provided the user can reasonably be expected to have the capability to access information in that form. This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the users authority to operate the equipment. To ensure compliance with all non-transmitter functions the host manufacturer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the module(s) installed and fully operational. For example, if a host was previously authorized as an unintentional radiator under the Suppliers Declaration of Conformity procedure without a transmitter certified module and a module is added, the host manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that the after the module is installed and operational the host continues to be compliant with the Part 15B unintentional radiator requirements. Manual Information To the End User The OEM integrator has to be aware not to provide information to the end user regarding how to install or remove this RF module in the users manual of the end product which integrates this module. The end user manual shall include all required regulatory information/warning as show in this manual. IC Statement IRSS-GEN

Safety Information The following safety precautions must be observed during all phases of operation, such as usage, service or repair of any cellular terminal or mobile incorporating SC20 module. Manufacturers of the cellular terminal should send the following safety information to users and operating personnel and to incorporate these guidelines into all manuals supplied with the product. If not so, Quectel assumes no liability for the customers failure to comply with these precautions. Full attention must be given to driving at all times in order to reduce the risk of an accident. Using a mobile while driving (even with a handsfree kit) causes distraction and can lead to an accident. You must comply with laws and regulations restricting the use of wireless devices while driving. Switch off the cellular terminal or mobile before boarding an aircraft. Make sure it is switched off. The operation of wireless appliances in an aircraft is forbidden, so as to prevent interference with communication systems. Consult the airline staff about the use of wireless devices on boarding the aircraft, if your device offers an Airplane Mode which must be enabled prior to boarding an aircraft. SC20-A_Manual_R1.0 Confidential / Released 7 / 57 Switch off your wireless device when in hospitals or clinics or other health care facilities. These requests are desinged to prevent possible interference with sentitive medical equipment. Cellular terminals or mobiles operating over radio frequency signal and cellular network cannot be guaranteed to connect in all conditions, for example no mobile fee or with an invalid SIM card. While you are in this condition and need emergent help, please remember using emergency call. In order to make or receive a call, the cellular terminal or mobile must be switched on and in a service area with adequate cellular signal strength. Your cellular terminal or mobile contains a transmitter and receiver. When it is ON , it receives and transmits radio frequency energy. RF interference can occur if it is used close to TV set, radio, computer or other electric equipment. In locations with potencially explosive atmospheres, obey all posted signs to turn off wireless devices such as your phone or other cellular terminals. Areas with potencially exposive atmospheres include fuelling areas, below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such as grain, dust or metal powders, etc. Please do not discard. Maybe wireless devices have an impact on the environment so please do not arbitrarily discarded. The device is restricted to indoor use only when oparating in the 5150 to 5350 Mhz frequency range. General Description SC20 is a series of 4G smart modules based on Qualcomm platform and Android operating system, with providing industrial grade performance. It supports worldwide LTE-FDD/LTE-TDD/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/
EVDO/CDMA/GSM coverage, and also supports short-range wireless communication via Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n and BT4.1 LE. Additionally, SC20 integrates GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou satellite positioning systems. Due to multiple speech and audio codecs as well as the built-in high performance AdrenoTM 304 graphics processing unit, it enables smooth play of 720P videos. The module also offers multiple audio and video input/output interfaces as well as abundant GPIO interfaces. The following table shows the supported network types and frequency bands of SC20. (SMART-EVB), RS-232 to USB cable, USB data cable, power adapter, earphone, antenna and other peripherals to control or test the module. For details, please refer to document [1]. General Description SC20 is equipped with 146-pin 1.0mm pitch SMT pads plus 64-pin ground pads and reserved pads that can be embedded into cellular application platform. The interface impedance is 50. External antennas such as PCB antenna, sucker antenna and ceramic antenna can be connected to the module via the interface, so as to achieve Wi-Fi and BT functions. 4.1. Wi-Fi Overview SC20 module supports 2.4G and 5G double-band WLAN wireless communication based on IEEE 802.11 a/802.11b/ 802.11g/ 802.11n standard protocols. The maximum data rate is up to 150 Mbps. If baking is required, devices may be baked for 48 hours at 125C5C. 4. NOTE As plastic package cannot be subjected to high temperatures, the package must be removed from devices before high temperature (125C) baking. If shorter baking time is desired, please refer to IPC/JEDECJ-STD-033 for baking procedure. 9.2. Manufacturing and Welding Push the squeegee to apply the solder paste on the surface of stencil, thus making the paste fill the stencil openings and then penetrate to the PCB. The force on the squeegee should be adjusted properly so as to produce a clean stencil surface on a single pass. To ensure the module soldering quality, the thickness of stencil at the hole of the module pads should be 0.18mm. For details, please refer to document [3]. Recommended reflow soldering thermal profile is shown below:

Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., Ltd Test Data Reuse Letter This application is intended to reuse previous test data (from SC20-A, FCC ID: XMR201706SC20A 2017/08/14 initial application), due to the fact that the two models of products are hardware-wise identical and only the following changes have been made:
SC20-AD, FCC ID: XMR2021SC20AD is the variant of certified SC20-A module. SC20-A and SC20-AD are both LTE modules. They use the same Qualcomm platform MSM8909. SC20-A supports LTE, WCDMA and GSM. SC20-AD supports LTE only. The main change of software is disabled WCDMA, GSM and voice part. Here we remove some small RF components which used in WCDMA and GSM. Main RF components changes as follow table The position of the different components in the PCB is shown in the follow picture Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., Ltd We hereby state that the above change wont affect the RF portions and there is no any other change between them except the software. So, we have performed spot checks on the following items to verify that if any unexpected RF conducted power or emission changes can be noted. However there still needs to be basic integration instructions for a users manual and the information below must still be included in the operational description. If the applicant wishes to keep this info confidential, this will require a separate statement cover letter explaining the module is not for sale to third parties and that integration instructions are internal confidential documents. Items required to be in the manual See KDB 996369 D03, Section 2 As of May 1, 2019, the FCC requires ALL the following information to be in the installation manual. Modular transmitter applicants should include information in their instructions for all these items indicating clearly when they are not applicable. For example information on trace antenna design could indicate Not Applicable. Also if a module is limited to only a grantees own products and not intended for sale to third parties, the user instructions may not need to be detailed and the following items can be placed in the operational description, but this should include a cover letter as cited above. 1. Describe alternative means that the grantee uses to verify the host meets the necessary limiting conditions b. When RF exposure evaluation is necessary, state how control will be maintained such that compliance is ensured, such as Class II for new hosts, etc. 4. Trace antenna designs. KDB 996369 D03, Section 2.5 a. Layout of trace design, parts list, antenna, connectors, isolation requirements, tests for design verification, and production test procedures for ensuring compliance. If confidential, the method used to keep confidential must be identified and information provided in the operational description. 5. RF exposure considerations. KDB 996369 D03, Section 2.6 a. Clearly and explicitly state conditions that allow host manufacturers to use the module. Two types of instructions are necessary: first to the host manufacturer to define conditions (mobile, portable xx cm from body) and second additional text needed to be provided to the end user in the host product manuals. 6. Antennas. KDB 996369 D03, Section 2.7 a. List of antennas included in the application and all applicable professional installer instructions when applicable. The antenna list shall also identify the antenna types (monopole, PIFA, dipole, etc note that omni-directional is not considered a type) 7. Label and compliance information.
